Maura's wasn't anything... anything really. Wasn't bad, yet it wasn't all that spectacular either. Went to the newly renovated location, where it's clean with plenty of seating, yet something about the design or atmosphere seems to be a bit lacking. The service was up to par, our waitress greeted and seated us promptly and was more than willing to explain everything on the menu. Knew when to stop by and refill our water and when to just let us be, which was refreshing. When it comes to the food, the empanadas were nothing short of disappointing. They weren't horrible but left you wanting something more. My steak strips were good, though I asked for medium rare and they came out a bit over medium. Regardless the flavor and seasoning came out nicely. If I remember correctly my friend got the tilapia dish? The fish was decently cooked and the flavoring was mild, no complaints or outstanding compliments on the dish. Overall maura's is a decent spot to check out, but nothing about the place is all that memorable other than their hot sauce. The dry heat of it sent me into a sweat. Most likely wouldn't go back unless asked to, mainly because I'd probably want to check out another place in town. read more

First time here, great experience! I had the chicha drink, I thought it had alcohol. It doesn't. But still a good clean drink. Something different. I also had the octopus ceviche, oh it was so good! Fresh and well made. Main course was Arroz Verde, it's rice with cilantro, peas, seared scallops and shrimp. The rice was a bit sticky, I like when rice is grainy. I still enjoyed this immensely! I had a taste of the Pasta macho, great dish as well, thick red sauce and some big shrimp. All the dishes were well made. Delicious. Came here to celebrate my daughter's 2nd bday. Read the reviews on Yelp and the photos of the food looked great so we decided to give it a try. This place does not look like the photos. I am not sure if they moved or renovated but this place is big and looks like it should be in Manhattan. The food was awesome. Very fresh seafood. Everything we ordered was good except the sangria. It's an insult to Peruvians. Peruvian cuisine is supposed to be one of the best in the world. The food flavors of Mauras Kitchen do not represent authentic Peruvian food. The portions are sad. El pollo a la brasa do not have the Peruvian flavors. The sauces which are very important do no taste good at all. The green sauce is not made with huacatay. It's also very expensive for the portions they give you. Peruvians love to feed their families. Maura's Kitchen want to take your money. They charge you extra if you ask for sauces. Their huancaina sauce is terrible! They need to fire their chef. They need to go to Misti in Port Chester to learn how to prepare their food. It's extremely embarrassing to serve people culture food when nothing tastes like it. Unless they change things.. good luck wasting your money and time in this place. Ordered here for Cinco de Mayo and unfortunately was disappointed. The margarita was supposed to be a 32oz passion fruit margarita. It was not 32oz and it was a big glass of lime juice that had to be dumped out because it was so sour. The avocado salad barely had any avocados. The vegetable empanadas which were always one of my favorite things on the menu were mushy and tasteless. Finally, the check was split among three people (party of 8) and a large surcharge was added to each check (for the courtesy of splitting it)!without any forewarning. The food was ok... my wife ordered the fish and it tasted funny. My steak bits were good. My mom and dad ordered the paella and it was good. Service was alright I guess. They were too focused on the "10 people party," that showed up at the end of our meal, they ended up seating us in the most awkward spot near the door, where the sun was beaming at us. Maura's Kitchen has relocated from its old location st the western end of Main Street to the very southern end of Nyack's section of Broadway. I loved the "original" Maura's, but I'm delighted that it's made the move to a larger, more refined space with a great bar and modern, clean design. And I'm even happier that it's retained most of the great dishes from the original, including the signature Lomo Soltado, the Shrimp a Lo Macho, and the various shellfish rice dishes. And they still do a great job with the fryer, if you want to try the chicken bites or fish tacos, and have absolutely amazing ceviches. We just went there with a group of ten, and had a really great time. Everyone loved the food, and we pretty much worked over the whole menu. And the drinks, particularly the spicy margaritas, were ridiculous. Be careful with those. The space itself is really clean and modern. I love the bar area, very sophisticated and a nice addition to south broadway. The dining area is a little sterile, and could use some character, but my guess is that they'll slowly develop a voice there. Oh, and it can get a LITTLE LOUD, but since it was my group making most of the noise, and we are not there every night, you might not have the same issue. All in all, a great move for Maura's, and a terrific addition to the Nyack dining scene. read more

Food is just as delicious! We opted for some different dishes this time, and ordered the Pescado Saltado (mahi version) and Arroz Verde. We ordered spicy, and it did not disappoint. Prices are on the high side, but portions are decent and food is always fresh, well seasoned, and not greasy. While we did not order this time around, we have ordered the Lomo Saltado, Arroz con Mariscos, and Jalea, and are favorites from their previous location. Love their Ceviche Sampler option! Not a big fan of the Chaufa, as the dish tastes sweet. But, definitely a fan of their food overall, as we are repeat customers! read more

The new location lacks the charm and ambiance of the old location... it is too glitzy. The old location was definitely more homey - I think the menu changed too... didn't see any chicken on the new one. My friend and I went for brunch without reservations and were seated promptly. The service was passable, but they really need to be more attentive. We ordered the ceviche sampler, which was wonderful, but the waitress just dropped it on the table and left without telling us which was which. We had the parihuela and the chupe de camerones - deliciousness. If you're looking for good food with a more upscale vibe, this is it. As soon as we arrived the hostess told us that we only have 1 hour to eat and need to leave at 9:30 because the band was about to come and needed to set up?! Huh? Who says that to customers? Have you heard of proper etiquette? There were empty booths along the opposite wall that we could have been seated but she insisted on seating us where the band would set up (no, those tables weren't reserved because they remained empty the rest of the time we were there). The place has ZERO ambiance, nothing that shows that this is a Latin or Peruvian restaurant. Bare walls, no music, just very loud people shouting over one another. The food was extremely bland. We had 5 people and split 5 ceviches with the other appetizers and had plenty of food, so the sampler would be great for 2-3 people. We didn't have any entrees but I saw a few coming out from the kitchen, and let's just say I wouldn't be mad at them if they ended up in front of me on the table. Yes, please, and thank you. Also? The ice cream. Get the ice cream. It's made with lucuma which is some fruit that tastes like a butterscotch/caramel. Until the day I ate at Maura's I didn't even know it existed. Now I will be dedicating a small portion of my life to acquiring as much of it as humanly possible. Once you order the ice cream, wait a few minutes, and order another serving. LOVE Maura's Kitchen! I recently visited on a Saturday night with a group of friends and it's exactly what we wanted. We were lucky enough to enjoy a meal at MK on Nat'l Ceviche Day - - who knew that even existed? We decided to take advantage of NCD and ordered five varieties of ceviche, three mixed with fruit and the other two were more traditional. All were spectacular, but my favorite had generous pieces of avocado. Num..Drooling as I type. We also ordered the empanadas. I've done my fair share of traveling and hands down, the chicken empanadas at MK are the best I've ever had! I will definitely make the hour long drive to experience these pockets of goodness again soon! Also LOVED the yucca fries and I've never liked yucca before. What a wonderful little Peruvian/Latin cafe!! Maura's kitchen serves delicious dishes such as tallarin verde (green pesto spaghetti), ceviche, and pollo a la brasa, among others. I ordered the tallarin verde and it was absolutely delicious! The steak was great too and it was so soft, not at all hard to cut. I tried my aunt's ceviche mixto and my cousins polo a la brasa and they were delicious too. The service was great - food came out quickly and everyone is very friendly. I 've been a fan for quite a while. This place never disappoints. The food is very good and the people who own and run the place are very reasonable and attentive. We came last night a bit late but I called ahead and they made the chef stay to accommodate us. Everything tasted amazing as usual except for my favorite dish the small bites of chicken. A bit dry with very little dressing usually its bathed in the right amount of this incredible sauce. No big deal, the chef was probably a bit annoyed with us slowing his exit, kidding. What were we thinking? Maura's Kitchen has been cooking since 2011 and we hadn't been there until tonight. We needed a bite to eat before heading to hearing in Nyack for our new home so we heeded the advice of many and headed for Maura's. Lite tapas included veggie empanadas which were out of this world. Homemade chips and spicy guacamole rounded out the apps while we waited for the Cod Fish dinner special. The perfectly prepared Cod Fish entree was smothered in onions and served over the most luscious bed of real mashed potatoes and greens that could imagine sitting in the Andes or in Nyack, NY. I am peruvian and love good homemade Peruvian food, I was getting a tattoo @ Vanguards and I noticed the Peruvian restaurant around the corner, after 3 hours of tattoo torture I went there to try it out and reward myself, I tried the Lomo Saltado and it was delicious!!! a huge serving full of flavor, I thought I wouldn't be able to finish but it took me 3 minutes to finish the plate. I'll be back and try other dishes and write a review on them, so far this lomo saltado is 5 stars and the price is more than fair, $10.25. This time I ordered "Arroz con Mariscos" (Rice with Seafood), after 15 minutes (always a good sign your food is being prepared fresh) comes this beautiful dish packed with beautiful colors and seafood, great flavor and freshness of the dish, The owners are constantly making sure you are having a personal and great experience in their restaurant. A couple of girls next to my table ordered Cebiche and I saw it passing bye, great looks, a minute later, Mrs Maura, owner and chef of the restaurant comes to my table with a glass of "Leche de Tigre" courtesy of the house, Oh my god!!!!!! it was so delicious and fresh! you can tell it was just made. Outstanding Peruvian food, at least as good as anything you can get in NYC. We were in a mild hurry at lunchtime, and raided the steam table for some roasted chicken with cilantro rice. We also ordered a huge platter of seco norteno, a beef stew loaded with cilantro. Both were absolutely obscene, and I mean that in the best possible way: delicious food, served in absolutely epic portions, for about $10 a plate. For bonus points, the owners are unbelievably friendly people, in addition to being beautifully heavy-handed when they load your plate. If you're not already familiar with Peruvian food, make sure that you try a glass of the chicha morada, made from fermented purple corn, lime juice, grated pineapple, and brown sugar. Eating at Maura's is like eating at your Peruvian friend's grandmother's house. It's a pretty small place with a small menu and you can see the little old lady cooking in the back. But, man, can she cook. I'll take a small menu of delicious food than an expansive menu with a lot of garbage any time. The chicken here might be the best Peruvian chicken I've ever had and everything just has a homemade taste to it. I would definitely recommend getting there on the early side on weekends (figure 6 or 7) because they sometimes run out of the chickens. Service review: I decided to place an order for pick up and looked at their menu on their site to make my decision easier. I placed an order over the phone for $6 Chicken & Beef empanadas & $16 the Arroz con Mariscos (Paella). I didn't bother asking for prices as I had their menu found on their site in front of me. I went to p/u my order and looked at my check to find my total order came to $31 ! Maura herself was behind the counter and I asked her if the paella which was listed at $21 on my check was the right price as it was listed for $16 on the site. I showed her the menu on her site and no empathy was shown. No customer service. No offer was even made to price adjust my check as I had already handed the waitress my CC!!!! I was extremely disappointed with the service! Never again. Food review: I don't know how anyone can mess up empanadas so with the being said the empanadas were good. In fact, the chicken empanadas were great. The chicken was well seasoned and the empanada itself was not too crunchy; it was perfect. The Arroz con Mariscos (Paella) not worth the $21 regardless of the array of seafood that was in it. The paella was WAY too salty and the rice was a bit undercooked. The clams and other shellfish didn't seem to be fresh, however the calamari and shrimp tasted great. It was so salty that I couldn't even continue eating the paella. Wanted to try something different and as I love Cuban and Colombian food, decided to try Peruvian. This place is brand new. They used to be in a different spot in Nyack. We asked for seats at the bar which was very spacious. Bartender was a little overwhelmed on a Friday night. She was by herself and not only had to tend bar but also had to wait on high top tables in the bar area. Very nice and made good drink and food selections. She explained the dishes and told us the most popular ones. For our appetizers we ordered some tapas: a pork empanadas special which had a great tasty filling and outside was cooked perfectly. The steamed clams were in an amazing tomato broth that I was eating like soup! We also got the tilapia ceviche which was in a perfect citrus marinade. For entrees I chose the traditional Peruvian version of fried rice. The flavors and vegetables were so flavorful and the rice had a really nice texture. My husband got the paella with seafood and said it was very good. The flavors used in all of these dishes are different and very unique. Drinks were also good. Very funky choices. I had a regular Margarita that was tasty. Would definitely come back. The only thing that stinks is the parking situation. read more
