Interior is bright and fun. We arrived around 11am on a Saturday and were seated immediately. Lots of menu options, with a good mix of American food and Mexican food. We ordered the Enchiladas Verde con Bistec, Tlacoyos, Picaditas, Malinesa de Pollo, and Pollo en Crema. Everything was delicious, and everyone who ordered from the Mexican section of the menu had more than enough to take home. Food came pretty quickly. I'm not surprised this little unassuming cafe has nearly five stars. We've been searching for good Mexican food in our area and Estrella Cafe has been the only one so far that left an impression. The portions and prices are excellent but above all it was delicious. Definitely authentic! We've only done takeout but I plan on visiting soon to sit down and try their drinks as well. Visiting the area to pick up my new truck, we had a brunch here. The "Spanish Breakfast" was amazingly delicious!! Eggs scrambled with chorizo, refried beans, rice, creme fresh, and a small chunck of cheese (cojito??) blended perfectly. Sitting at the counter, Axel kept us company and chatted about the restaurant and the various options on the menu. He was friendly and informative. It was a first visit here and we loved our breakfast. Estrella's Cafe was very clean and cozy. They have a bar, fresh juicer, and a full menu for all parts of the day. The breakfast menu has many items with Spanish influence so it took a few minutes to decide what to order. The Spanish breakfast had a nice assortment and everything was fresh. The breakfast picaditas were also prepared perfectly and came with a wonderful Pico de Gallo, which stood out. You could see it was obviously freshly chopped that morning, using all fresh ingredients. It added a brightness to every bite. The maduros hit home too. They were crisp on the outside, with a jammy plantain inside. Tortillas had such a nice aroma. Coffee was good here. Not weak and refilled plenty of times without my asking. Melvin was very friendly and happy to tell me all about their specials, including a crispy duck offered on Fridays and octopus on weekends, which I can't wait to try someday. I did sample a bit of sangria too and it's very balanced. Tastes like juice, but Melvin assured me there's tequila and wine in there! Estrella's does charge a credit card fee (a bit peeve of mine), which doesn't appear on the check. After walking away with my credit card, it was brought back and the fee was explained before processing. I am at least grateful for the heads up, without just appearing as a surprise after running my card through. I switched to cash then, so keep this in mind if you visit. Overall, we were happy. We'd certainly return for breakfast and will likely try dinner someday. Parking was easy since it was a weekday morning, though I'm sure it'll be more of a challenge parking in this area at dinnertime. read more

Dining at Estrella's is like having your mom cook you a meal at home. And I mean it will taste like someone cooked it at home. I got the Chicken Fajita Omelet, Egg Whites, and it was very good--too much salt for my taste, but good. Came with breakfast potatoes--excellent. Brought one of my sisters with me and she has been dining here ever since she liked it so much. Everyone should try Estrella's at least once and see what you think? Great meals at a great price. Easy going Diner atmosphere. Had the chili relleno and wife had chilaquiles verdes. Both were equally superb. Service was very nice, thanks! Will be back for sure. Second visit was as good as first. The stuffed chicken dish was unreal (see pic after I poked at ric). Diner setting but much better than diner food. Yet they also offer some diner classics if not in the mood for great Mexican food. Wife said her Cuervo Margarita was superb. Enjoy! Fourth time and the best so far! Moving them to a 5 star! Ok it's a very nice diner setting, so don't expect a 5 star exotic restaurant. For what they serve and what they do, they deserve what I gave them. This time I again had the Estrella's Stuffed Chicken which was again amazing and prettier than last time! Wife had the Camarones (shrimp) Enchipotlados which she loved. I had add another review. An octopus appetizer was suggested and I hesitated a minute thinking "an octopus appetizer in Nanuet?" But since I haven't been disappointed at Estrella's I gave it a try. Estrella's was really good. A local family run business. The service and food with both very good. Definitely recommend this place for breakfast and if you like hot sauce, asks for the house made hot sauce. They have really good fresh squeezed orange juice. The Side of fruit was fresh as well. We were visiting from out of town and tried to get into pancakes plus but they were too packed and we were starving. So went to Estella's. WOW. So tasty with a huge menu if you want standard American breakfast but they also have amazing Mexican dishes. Torta Cubano was off the hook: crispy breaded Chicken cutlet, carne al pastor, ham, hot dog, lettuce, jalapeños and one fried egg with french fries. What a huge sandwich full of all these fillings that worked really well together. You gotta bite through all of it to get all the flavors together - not easy to bite into but so worth it. The French fries were perfectly crispy on the outside that you can't get at most places. French fries are usually hard to mess up but Estrella's makes them so wonderfully hot and tan golden brown with almost a translucency to the outside - crunch that doesn't squish. You know what I'm taking about. Tlacoyos: handmade tortillas with black bean filling and pan fried then topped with cheese and choice of protein (we got chicken ). Very tasty with side of avocado and interestingly different. My hot sauce (I bring my own) went well with it. Great customer friendly service. Good diner coffee. I wish we lived nearby. read more

I've been eating breakfast here for the past couple of years. But NEVER thought of having dinner here until a friend told me the food was great. My wife and I tried it last night and we were pleasantly surprised. We started with the seafood ceviche and it was huge and probably the best I've ever had. We couldn't finish it.....leftovers!!! My wife had the mixed burritos with verde sauce and I had ( don't remember what it was called) but skirt steak ( cooked perfectly) with Ranchero sauce, chorizo and shrimp. We both thought it was the best Mexican food we ever had and portions were huge.....more leftovers. The owner who came over to see how everything was and stayed and talked to us for a while is a wonderful person and it reflects on her staff who were extremely friendly. read more

Stopped in for lunch today. Didn't get my usual cheeseburger deluxe; instead went with a lunch special, fried shrimp in the basket. It came with fries and soup. Ah, the soup. We all know that when soup comes with the meal it's always in a cup, polished off in a few spoonfuls. Two amazing things about this soup, which BTW was chicken soup with rice. First, it came as a full-sized portion in a bowl. Second, and I don't say this lightly, it was one of the best chicken soups I've ever had. A tasty broth loaded with veggies, rice, and chunks of white meat chicken. I would have preferred saltines with it rather than nacho chips, but this is basically a Mexican eatery so no big deal. The fried shrimp was also terrific. Two things of note with that dish...first, the basket was loaded with shrimp, probably around 2 dozen pieces. Second, the shrimp already had the tails removed, so you can pick up each batter-fried gem and bite into it without having to navigate around the shell. Fries well-done as requested completed the outstanding meal. Note to the cook- it would be great if you included a side of tartar sauce with the shrimp. The service was attentive as always, and it was a very enjoyable lunch. read more

Ridiculously overpriced .. a bagel with eggs and bacon and a coffee $11?? I only just asked how is that possible when their menu sitting right there on counter has it at $7.75 total. Spouse and I tried this spot for a late breakfast during the week. It was very quiet, only 2 other tables having breakfast. We started with 2 coffees (a tad on the weak side). My husband got the steak and eggs with a pancake . I got the sopes with chorizo. Hubby was either really hungry or he really enjoyed the meal because he cleared the plates! ( he did let me try a bit of steak which was nicely cooked and juicy). My slopes were very filling. The salsa verde was spicy and paired well. Oh yeah my hubby also got a bloody mary, but he wasn't impressed with the flavor, it was a bit heavy handed with the liquor for his liking. Unassuming cafe/diner on the town road with plenty of seating available on a Saturday afternoon. Interior is a mish-mash of a Mexican restaurant and your typical American diner. Got a booth for three and was quickly able to order. Incredibly large menu with all sorts of specials to choose from. Settled on the Steak Quesadillas which comes with rice and beans ($15). While waiting for the food, we were served a helping of tortilla chips and salsa. Chips are your regular fare, but the salsa has a nice kick which was hard to stop eating. Food came out 15 minutes late - four sectioned off quesadillas, a dollop of beans, and a moderate mound of fried rice. Quesadillas are pressed well and the meat is cooked just right. Beans are a bit salty which is best coated in the provided hot sauce. To go along with the meal, the server provided sour cream, guacamole, green sauce, and red sauce for the table (always a plus). Service is helpful here and quick since we were one of the few people inside. No alcohol sucks but the food is worth the visit. read more

And after years of mediocre pancakes and French toast at various places, it makes me so happy to have found my new potential go-to spot (and it's one that offers Spanish fare!). The waiter (who was super friendly) suggested the Spanish breakfast and at $10, it felt like a total steal. A super filling meal with a great balance of deconstructed pieces, from the chorizo and rice to the chips, cheese, beans and avocado. Definitely add some of the sauces in because they really bring the different prices together. The green is mild, while the orange (my preferred choice) has a bit more kick to it. I came here after work one day . I actually thought the food was going to be good because of all the amazing reviews. I've had better mexcian food then this restaurant to say the least. I ordered chicken quesadilla, steak taco and rice w/beans . * Chicken Quesadilla was soggy , very messy and the chicken was in big chunks and it was loaded with vegetables and onions which I did not like. The Chicken Quesadilla didn't leave me with a great aftertaste. * Rice & Beans was alright it was more on the dry side, there was vegetables in the rice which I didn't really care for . The rice & beans tasted good but didnt sit well with me . * Steak Tacos : Was amazing and on point the wraps they used was delicious and the steak was good as well the only thing I didnt like was the cilantro. * The sauces that was put together was very delicious. Recently visited Estrella's Cafe for brunch and really enjoyed my visit! Pros: They have a very extensive menu, you have the option of ordering traditional Mexican food or American food. Sometimes the ratings of local faves like this are exaggerated, but in this case I think the natives are spot on. We showed up for breakfast the Saturday before Thanksgiving - the place was just about full. Service was friendly and prompt. Being that it was the season of over-consumption, I plumped for the Bandera plate. I was rewarded with eggs, chorizo, crisp bacon, salsas red and green, tortilla and some of the lightest, tastiest refried frijoles ever. My companion's feta omelette was well executed if more mundane. She eschews carbs, so she added a plate of sauteed spinach, redolent of garlic and also quite good. Our first cup of coffee was excellent for a diner, although the second was a bit old, my only complaint. I will be looking for reasons to visit Nanuet so I can try the huevos rancheros or the hash. read more
