The food is good and consistent. The staff is friendly. The remodel/new spot is bigger and holds more people but they did all these upgrades and forgot to put in a $150 changing table. Don't go here if you have littles...unless you're comfortable changing your kid in front of tons of people. Long wait times and no changing table don't exactly match. What makes it worse is that staff claimed to have already recommended putting one in and it hasn't been done. Ownership can do better, camelback has a table available and I'm sure Gilbert does. It doesn't need to be fancy. With (4) bathrooms in the new location, you would think they could accommodate parents. Apparently, they do not care. We won't be back until our kiddo outgrows diapers. In an airport where everyone seems to be rushing, Javon took the time to be genuinely kind and personable. Customer service like his is rare these days. He was friendly, professional, and created such a great first impression that it set the tone for my entire experience. Good food, but I was disappointed that no one went to check on us. It was very busy so we took a seat at the end of the bar, and after taking our order and bringing us our food, we were left alone. No one came to see how we were, how's the food, so your drinks need refills..... nothing. The food was good, don't get me wrong, but what happened to the service. I guess it's too big to manage if they seat us where no one remembers "you got someone at the end of the bar, buddy!!" So if you come, just remember sit where you'll be seen. I learned my lesson. This place is so fun, bright, and airy. It was within walking distance of my hotel. I would make sure I went after the early morning rush so there would be no wait. The first time I had the Cheese Omelet, it came with Wisconsin cheddar, aged provolone, or American, folded into three eggs, potatoes, toast, homemade preserves, roasted peppers, or sautéed onions. with home fries. The second time I got The Skinny: Four Egg whites, spinach, onion, and salad. Plus two blueberry pancakes, which were huge. Guy Fieri did NOT steer us wrong with this one We first saw this downtown Phoenix breakfast spot on YouTube when it was a small location -- and now it's expanded, remodeled, and absolutely beautiful. Tons of indoor and outdoor seating, and even on a Monday morning it was packed (but still easy enough to grab a table). The food? So good. That homemade lemonade honey drink is to die for. I had the Big Papa Burrito -- chorizo, potatoes, egg, and cheese wrapped in a fresh flour tortilla made right here in Phoenix -- and it absolutely lives up to the name. Huge and delicious. They carry Arizona-based Gunslinger hot sauce (love the local support), but their in-house hot sauce is my personal favorite. And the pancakes? Fluffy perfection. Our server was friendly and knowledgeable about the menu. We were a group of 4 and ordered the 2 of the breakfast veggie scramble special - egg scramble, tomatoes, mushrooms, peppers, spinach, with sourdough, hash browns and side of egg, the big Pappa Burrito, an avocado toast and orange juice. The portions are big. Veggie options are very limited and they don't do substitutions (gluten free or vegan). The scramble was good. Walked in and were able to be seated immediately. We had looked at the menu before we arrived so I knew I wanted the chop and chick with hasbrowns (delicious!). My friend got the poached eggs and a double order of hashbrowns with sausage links (very good). They poach the eggs in the stainless steel bowls they're served in so the cook and shape are pretty perfect every time. The restaurant was clean, bright, and despite doing prompt business they let us hang around and kept our coffee and iced tea full. The sound of metal chairs constantly screeching against the floor made it hard to enjoy the meal. If you're sensitive to noise or nursing a headache, this might not be the most peaceful spot. The hash browns were the highlight: perfectly crispy and addictive. I'd come back just for those. The bacon on the Five Spot Platter was also excellent - crispy, flavorful and not overly greasy. I wished I had order bacon as a side on its own!! The breakfast sandwich was solid, though it could've used a sauce to tie everything together. One word "WOW"!!! The guy at the front didn't play when it came to seating and making sure that tables were clean as soon as, someone left to seat the next group/ human. My only complaint is, I went to wash my hands prior to eating and noticed that their bathrooms are disgusting! It's not unusual that lots of restaurants have disgusting bathrooms but I'm wondering why restaurants don't invest in having cleaner bathrooms. I'm not speaking about only " Matt's" but lots of restaurants have gross bathrooms. It's disturbing since they work with food! I wish that inspectors of businesses where food is served especially inspect bathrooms. All bathrooms should be newly updated even if the building is outdated in my opinion! Side note not related, but in my opinion, All bathrooms should have sensors on doors and washing sinks so that humans, never have to touch handles in bathrooms nor on the way out of bathrooms. While visiting Arizona, I made it a point to stop by Big Matt's -- especially after hearing it was featured on Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives. It was definitely a popular Saturday morning spot, but even with the crowd, the wait was only about 15 minutes -- totally worth it! Let me tell you, they call it Big Matt's for a reason -- everything is oversized! My waffle was literally the size of the plate, and the hash browns came out on their own plate. Generous portions and great presentation. My friend ordered the GRAINS, GREENS & BEANS -- a hearty bowl of farro, sautéed local baby spinach, heirloom Anasazi beans, topped with poached eggs, crushed herbs, and pink Himalayan sea salt. My husband order the blueberry pancakes with bacon and eggs on the side. My salami scramble came with hash browns and toast. The salami tasted good, but the scrambled eggs were overly cooked. This was such a great random find! We were in downtown for some work and were looking for brunch and ended up getting breakfast here. Got seated immediately! The vibe and atmosphere is okayish! Family friendly as well. I got the classic with thick cut bacon, house made strawberry jam and orange juice! My husband he got the avocado toast with a side of apple sausage and coffee. The server's work together as a team so expect not to have a dedicated person for your table! Everyone is coming and helping. I loved that. It was quick and responsive. I have been to MBB Downtown quite a few times. I believe they have the best bacon in Phoenix. I have recently started going to pickup my breakfast because I live so close and work about 80 hours/week. Until today, I have been going inside and just mentioning that I had a pickup order, I would be handed my order, and go on my merry way. Today I go inside and tell them I have a pickup order...LIKE EVERY OTHER TIME. I am told to walk around the outside (It's Phoenix in July) to the "pickup window." Seriously? Who thought this was a good idea? Inside, there was 2 tables occupied. Who the heck am I bothering by coming inside to get my food? So I go outside - did I mention it's Phoenix in July? I'm waiting on my food... and playing fetch with the mosquitoes, who proceeded to give me 6 bites. Guess they were hungry too. I have made the executive decision to not go back to MBB until they come to the realization that it's not a problem to come inside (where it's air conditioned) to pickup my order.
