Good food, but I was disappointed that no one went to check on us. It was very busy so we took a seat at the end of the bar, and after taking our order and bringing us our food, we were left alone. No one came to see how we were, how's the food, so your drinks need refills..... nothing. The food was good, don't get me wrong, but what happened to the service. I guess it's too big to manage if they seat us where no one remembers "you got someone at the end of the bar, buddy!!" So if you come, just remember sit where you'll be seen. I learned my lesson. I actually had to stop somewhere to get a drink because I was still thirsty. How sad is that? Notice in my photo, my cup is empty. It stayed empty.
Matt's Big Breakfast is a popular breakfast spot established in 2004 and currently has multiple locations in the Phoenix area, but this is the flagship location. This breakfast spot was featured on Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives ( https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tAidCOYC0_g ). In December 2025, Matt's Big Breakfast expanded and relocated to its current location which has a larger dining area + keeping the same menu. The new location is right next to the old location. [Parking]: I didn't see any available spots in the designated parking lot behind the restaurant, so I ended up parking few blocks away from the shop (plenty of metered parking spots near the intersection of E McKinley St & N 5th St). [Waiting time & Ambiance]: Our party waited about 5 minutes before getting bar seats. The restaurant has indoor tables, bar seating, and outdoor tables. [Menu]: According to the Food Network bio, specialty dishes at Matt's Big Breakfast include waffles, bacon, and The Chop & Chick (breakfast pork chops with eggs). Yelp's top highlighted items are The Hog and Chick, The Five Spot Platter, and Salami Scramble. *** Waffle with Bacon (made-from-scratch Belgian-style waffle, sweet cream butter and 100% Vermont maple syrup with two slices of thick-cut bacon - $12.49): A crispy waffle with two large slices of thick-cut hickory-smoked bacon. The bacon had a lot of pepper and tasted a bit dry. *** A solid 3.5-star on food, but bump down to 3-star due to not getting a refill on our bottomless coffee order.
This place is so fun, bright, and airy. It was within walking distance of my hotel. I would make sure I went after the early morning rush so there would be no wait. The first time I had the Cheese Omelet, it came with Wisconsin cheddar, aged provolone, or American, folded into three eggs, potatoes, toast, homemade preserves, roasted peppers, or sautéed onions. with home fries. The second time I got The Skinny: Four Egg whites, spinach, onion, and salad. Plus two blueberry pancakes, which were huge. This time, the wait was a little longer because there were more people here. As a lover of breakfast/brunch, I would definitely return. Plus, it is conveniently located right in the heart of Downtown Phoenix, which is very walkable. Plus, they have Rishi Tea, which is one of my faves!
I hadn't been to MBB in a few years, but when my girlfriend came to visit we decided to go--and it did not disappoint. Great atmosphere and consistent quality from start to finish. Thoughtful menu options that suited both of us perfectly. Friendly service that made the visit feel special.
Guy Fieri did NOT steer us wrong with this one We first saw this downtown Phoenix breakfast spot on YouTube when it was a small location -- and now it's expanded, remodeled, and absolutely beautiful. Tons of indoor and outdoor seating, and even on a Monday morning it was packed (but still easy enough to grab a table). The food? So good. That homemade lemonade honey drink is to die for. I had the Big Papa Burrito -- chorizo, potatoes, egg, and cheese wrapped in a fresh flour tortilla made right here in Phoenix -- and it absolutely lives up to the name. Huge and delicious. They carry Arizona-based Gunslinger hot sauce (love the local support), but their in-house hot sauce is my personal favorite. And the pancakes? Fluffy perfection. Delicious, generous portions, great vibe, and reasonably priced. If you're in downtown Phoenix, this is a must for breakfast.
Top of the Morning Mattttttttt.... We're here for your Big Breakfast! Location: Located in downtown Phoenix near Arizona State University, this this place is hard to miss. It has indoor and outdoor seating for beautiful weather days. Parking: Im sure that I paid attention to parking. We walked to this location. Ambiance: A cute breakfast spot. Fresh flowers on some of the tables are a nice touch! It is also giving farm to table fancy farm vibe. Im not mad at it. Its kinda cute. Service: We got service with a smile. We were able to walk up and get a table. No issues/ no reservations. Our table host also made some great recommendations. The Food: We got there Big Papaa Burrito, Cheese Omelet, and the special of the day... Corned Beef Hash. They all tasted amazing. The Burrito was my favorite! It was super spicy just the way I like it. In short, we will be back. Im going to have dreams about this Burrito! Lol
We came here around 7:30 am on a Sat morning and it was surprisingly empty. The ambiance is bright, happy, colorful and brings a smile the moment you walk in. Our server was friendly and knowledgeable about the menu. We were a group of 4 and ordered the 2 of the breakfast veggie scramble special - egg scramble, tomatoes, mushrooms, peppers, spinach, with sourdough, hash browns and side of egg, the big Pappa Burrito, an avocado toast and orange juice. The portions are big. Veggie options are very limited and they don't do substitutions (gluten free or vegan). The scramble was good. The hash browns were the best part - super delicious, crunchy yet firm. The big Pappa Burrito was ok. I wished it had more punch in flavor. The avocado toast was good. Orange juice was freshly squeezed. Pricing wise, it is on par for the area but I think the prices are a little high for a brunch/breakfast place. Overall, food is good, but not mind-blowing.
Bacon was so good. Thick and sourced from the pork shop in Queen Creek. I ordered avocado toast. It was good. Avocado spread was very cold so I'm happy they didn't put my egg on top of it which was what I thought they would have done when I ordered together. My friend's breakfast was warm at best but they brought her out a fresh hotter order of potatoes. My husband ordered a burger and he liked it. We had to ask for coffee refills otherwise everything else was good.
Busier than a one-armed paper hanger.. Not far from ASU so lots of college kids. Short wait, but they seated my best friend, Baby, in the corner pretty quickly. We both had eggs w link sausage, potatoes, and sour dough bread. Bottomless coffee, priced at $3.99 a bit higher than normal, but Baby got his money's worth... 4 cups. Service was excellent (Gisela). Strawberry compote provided for the toast (Baby thought it was salsa!). My potatoes were excellent...like a cross between a potato pancake and hash browns. 4.5 stars
Gave this place a try after seeing it on triple D food was good. Can't go wrong with breakfast. Everything seemed fresh. It was busy service was friendly. Ordered the waffle and some eggs with a side of toast it was good but I thought the waffle could be better seemed a little over cooked. Bacon was good. It was an overall good experience.
Matt's has been consistent since they set foot in the valley. Multiple locations, efficient breakfast. My steak and eggs were tasty this morning and the bar had us well taken care of. The host seems to be a little bit aggressive for a pleasant Sunday morning but overall a good meal. Not too much inspiration but a solid start to the day.
Yesterday, I looked for a breakfast spot and found Matt's Big Breakfast. After landing in Phoenix, we headed there. Rachel welcomed us, took our orders, and took good care of us. Hubby and I had coffee and Dad had orange juice. I ordered Blueberry Pancakes with a side of bacon. Hubby had the Corn Beef Hash with sunny side up eggs and sourdough toast. Dad had the Basics with 2 scrambled eggs, hash brown, and wheat toast. Everything was wonderfully prepared. Highly recommend a stop at this place.

Mat's Big Breakfast was absolutely fantastic! The food was really, really good and you can tell the chefs put a lot of care and skill into every dish. I also loved the aesthetic of the place; it feels welcoming and thoughtfully designed. One thing that stood out to me was their team service approach everyone works together seamlessly, which made the whole experience smooth and enjoyable. Highly recommend for anyone looking for a delicious breakfast with great vibes and top-notch service! Mi ordered the French toast which came with sausage and i added 1 scrambled egg, totaling $19.57 (before tip) Portions are HUGE People are friendly And there's space for all! Ryan was my "server" and did great! read more

We stumbled into Matt's Big Breakfast after the place we originally wanted to try had a long wait and we were starving. The menu has a lot of classic breakfast options and everything we ordered was simple and straightforward. The food was good overall, nothing crazy or over the top, just a solid classic breakfast spot. The staff was really nice and the service was friendly. It did the job and hit the spot, but it did not really blow me away either. read more

Cute bright place got seated quick, orange juice was fresh squeezed i guess but gross the worst orange juice I've ever had tbh. The hashbrowns were grey and the only salsa options are their 2 salsas. i wouldn't come back here it's not awful but nothing great and there are alot of other places that are great. read more
This place is a hot spot for breakfast. It was super busy with a 40 minute wait while we were there. Happy we stuck around. There is road side meter parking available and only offers 2 hours at a time for $3.00. There is outside seating, but appears to only be used for waiting, although I could be wrong. When we were seated we were in a room of our own with a view of the outside. Cute little room and great idea for use of space. The specials menu is on the very back room and big enough the see looking on the window from outside. We asked our server Mario what he recommend and one thing he said was "The Big Pappa Burrito" and I was sold on it. In addition, my kids orders the Waffle with Bacon and the other Griddlecakes with a side of hashbrowns. All of which were a large portion and the price was reasonable as well. The whole experience was a great one and I love that the process is "any server can assist you". Certainly worth checking out! read more

This is hands down one of the best breakfast spots in Phoenix, in my opinion. They use real maple syrup, high-quality ingredients, and everything is made from scratch -- with lots of locally sourced items. You can really taste the difference; everything was absolutely delicious. The atmosphere is warm and welcoming, and the service was excellent. We came on a Friday morning -- it was busy, but there was no wait. A local we spoke to mentioned that weekends tend to get crowded, so be prepared for a possible wait then -- but it's worth it. Honestly, I'm not sure why this place has a low review from others. We almost skipped it because of that, and I'm so glad we didn't. Don't let one bad review stop you from checking this gem out. read more
Food was good and oh my gosh that butter! The place is a little small but cute little diner style, service was polite and quick. Even other customers were friendly, started multiple side conversations with strangers. Over all enjoyed it. read more

Me and my husband stopped by here before leaving the city after seeing it on DD&D. We came a Monday afternoon so it wasn't super busy and service was quick & friendly. Ambiance was definitely giving diner vibes but was well lit and clean. I got a tuna sandwich and my husband got a breakfast burrito. Both were delicious! I will definitely be back and try more breakfast items. read more
Matt's big breakfast is exactly what was presented on my plate. They give you a lot of food and big portions for the price. The food and quality of the food is delicious and a great place to grab some breakfast before exploring Phoenix. I got a very simple breakfast with toast, eggs, and bacon with potatoes. Definitely I go to spot for breakfast when I go to Arizona. They even have one at the Phoenix airport. Service is also very friendly and atmosphere is very welcoming. read more

The hash brown holy grail discovered--that should be the headline! These hash browns were truly browned and crisped to perfection. Haven't seen anything on this level before. You get the choice between hash browns and home fries when selecting potatoes. I don't think I'd ever have the heart NOT to pick these hashbrowns again, so the home fries might as well be dead to me. Sorry home fries. I picked the 5 spot platter for my entree. Perfect choice. Bread was a buttery croissant roll, housing beautifully crisp bacon, fluffy eggs, and flavorful cheesy onions. Next to the hash browns, this platter is a strong one-two punch that will knock you into a blissful food coma. Ambience was hip-industrial. Service was attentive with all hands on deck. Come visit! read more

This was my first time at Matt's Big breakfast. I have tried to go a few times but they have been so busy! I tried this morning and with it being a random weekday morning, it was not as packed as a Saturday. It's very cozy and homey feeling. The servers were all very sweet and attentive. I got iced tea and orange juice. The fresh squeezed orange juice was phenomenal! Some of the best orange juice I've tried. I also got the big papa burrito. It was so good! I loved the jalapeño on the side. The salsa and the Matt's hot sauce make it to die for, I think it needed the extra flavor boost. I can't wait to come again! read more

It's very busy and quite noisy, but the food is scratch made and very good. We went for breakfast on President's Day and it was busier than usual our server said, but we were served quickly. I had oats and my friend had scrambled eggs, sausage patties and toast. She loved the sausage but said it was a bit spicy, maybe too spicy for some. I tried it and loved it. read more

Food: the food was good and filling. They had a specialty menu with pumpkin pancakes and they were very good. Service: the staff was very friendly. They were pretty busy so they were running around quite a bit but they were nice. It really busy so we had to wait a bit to get seated. Ambiance: it's a little small/cramped in there but it felt like a diner where everyone knows the regulars. Parking: we didn't drive but it looked as if there was limited street parking only, but i could be wrong. read more

I have been to MBB Downtown quite a few times. I believe they have the best bacon in Phoenix. I have recently started going to pickup my breakfast because I live so close and work about 80 hours/week. Until today, I have been going inside and just mentioning that I had a pickup order, I would be handed my order, and go on my merry way. Today I go inside and tell them I have a pickup order...LIKE EVERY OTHER TIME. I am told to walk around the outside (It's Phoenix in July) to the "pickup window." Seriously? Who thought this was a good idea? Inside, there was 2 tables occupied. Who the heck am I bothering by coming inside to get my food? So I go outside - did I mention it's Phoenix in July? I'm waiting on my food... and playing fetch with the mosquitoes, who proceeded to give me 6 bites. Guess they were hungry too. I have made the executive decision to not go back to MBB until they come to the realization that it's not a problem to come inside (where it's air conditioned) to pickup my order. Bacon quality does not supersede the ineptness of the pickup window idea. Chick-Fil-A, here I come! read more
I came here for Saturday brunch and luckily beat the rush, so we were seated after about 5 minutes. The waitress was really helpful and knew the menu pretty well in order to answer questions and make suggestions. The orange juice tasted super fresh and really good. For food, I ordered the Saturday special, the special scramble. The hash browns were nice and crispy and the eggs were decent. The toast came with a nice strawberry jam on the side. Otherall, decent breakfast! read more

This was my first time coming here. My brother raved about it. I got the cheese omelet with mushrooms and bacon added. I enjoyed it. Their coffee is pretty good. My brother got the hog & chick. He loved it as always. The outdoor dining area is decent, except our table was obnoxiously wobbly. The service is really great. Overall, we had a good time. I'd come back again. Edit: I've come here five mornings in a row. I dig this place. I got a different table, and it made the outdoor experience better. They have great eggs and bacon. The people here are some of the best I've been served by. Pricing is very reasonable. read more

Matt's big breakfast was a solid breakfast option. I got the five spot platter, and their strawberry honey lemonade. The five spot platter consists of their breakfast sandwich, two eggs which I got poached, bacon, cheese and potatoes. The sandwich was really good. Enough food for the price. The potatoes were nicely done, well seasoned and a little on the crispy side. I normally don't have lemonade for breakfast so glad I decided to go with the lemonade special. I could really taste the freshness and honey. It wasn't overly sweet as well. Our waitress was great through the entire dining experience. We came in super early for brunch so we didn't have any wait. I wish they had latte options not just plain coffee although bottomless. I hope to be back to try other food items on the menu. read more

Came in for breakfast which is normally what I get but today decided to try one of their sandwiches. I got the Rueben and it was very very tasty. I liked the bread and that it wasn't toasted super crunchy. It was soft and had nice flavor. The meat was perfectly sliced and not greasy which I always appreciate. The sandwich came with 1000 island dressing, cheese and I opted to not have sauerkraut on it. Also came with a yummy pickle and home made potato chips that were crunchy until I finished the last one at dinner. Staff was helpful in my to go order. Restaurant is on the smaller side especially compared to the big new one in Gilbert but has a nice cozy charm about it. I usually sit at the counter that looks outside when I dine in. read more
This place is very cute and homey. They are very busy and are able to turn tables very fast! However with this fast pace atmosphere the servers weren't very patient. When we were still looking at the menu two servers came by and asked us if we were ready within 5 mins of each other. We felt rushed and ultimately chose our food at random. The pancakes were the best things that we ordered, thankfully. The rest of our food was okay... the bacon wasn't crispy, couldn't really ask our server as they were wanting to move on to the next task/customer. The best thing that I ate was the home made blueberry preserve. This was the perfect amount of sweet but not artificial. read more

I came here on a Saturday for brunch. There was a long line out the door and several people sitting around waiting for their name to be called. Half the people waiting ended up at Churchill for a grab and go breakfast instead. It was about twenty minutes till we were called. We sat by the bar since there was not much space available. I ordered the Five Spot Platter which was a breakfast sandwich on a roll with two eggs, two slices of bacon, American cheese, grilled onions, and a side of home fries. I wanted to order an iced coffee to go with my meal since it was a hot day but they didn't have it available. They only had a cold brew can available for $6.00 which is ridiculous. How hard would it be to make an iced coffee and serve it for half the price. The food was decent but nothing to write home about. For such a long line and wait I was expecting something breath taking. The food was decent but lack of iced coffee really threw me off. This is a decent place but I probably won't wait on line again. read more

I was excited that there wasn't a wait because I've heard they are usually super busy. We went on a Thursday, so that is probably why. They don't have a lot of tables but it is quaint. I loved all of the pig decorations. They have a smaller menu, but it was still hard to choose what to order. I chose the iced coffee to start, which is their own brand. For breakfast, I ordered THE FIVE SPOT PLATTER. It is a breakfast sandwich with egg, bacon, grilled onions and cheese. I made the mistake of getting over easy eggs and it was a mess. the sandwich was very good though. The hashbrowns were amazing! They were super crispy. My husband had a short stack of pancakes, bacon and hashbrowns. We will be back and maybe try out one of their other locations. read more

Hadn't been in, in awhile so it was ahhmazing to taste the place still holding it down strong. Amazing service the cooks that really know what they're doing for serving up quality goodness. They make they're maple syrup and that stuff costs so know that you're not dealing with the high fructose corn syrup most people are used to. They know what they're doing for sure. Come early or try and find a sweet spot for coming here because they are always busy so be prepared to wait a bit. Average noise but clean simple spot to enjoy some really good food. read more

Does this place offer vegan options? Gluten-free? Dairy-free?
They offer a vegan scramble. A bunch sautéed veggies. My girlfriend who's a vegan always orders it and loves it. Also, try their hot sauce.
We are looking for somewhere to have a company breakfast meeting. Do you have a private room that would seat about 30?
No they do not but they make accept reserving the whole place.
Are you pet friendly
No. They don't have an outdoor patio :( Check out Scramble at 7th St and Mountain View or…
