    Bbq chicken pizza
    Michele F.

I was looking for some pizza and happened upon this restaurant. I noticed that it had been in business since 1943, so I figured it would be good. I decided on the bbq chicken pizza. It was a 10" pie and there was a sign saying it would take about 25 minutes to make. When the pizza came out, it looked like a deep dish pizza, and was served piping hot. The flavor of the pizza was good, but the burnt crust was a little offputting. The other pizzas I saw served to other customers also had really burnt edges. I've had deep dish pizza and thin crust pizza, and this fell somewhere in between. The staff was super nice and attentive. I just wish the edges of the pizza weren't so burnt tasting.

Solid pizza place in Baltimore! I got a takeout of the spinach pie- it was ready fast within 15- 20 minutes! The service is good and everyone is friendly! Overall I enjoyed the pizza! the crust is great and so is the pie! It was easy to park by the place and pick it up.

Ordered carryout from Matthew's for my first time and it was definitely a fun, delicious experience. The packaging made it a tad hard to carry everything and I was walking back to my friend's so it was tricky. The salad was a large portion for the price and very refreshing. The dressing was a little oily, but not a huge deal. The mozzarella sticks were breaded nicely and very crispy-- paired well with the marinara sauce. The onion rings were great, but there were a lot of little half pieces that were stuck together with the breading and it just became too greasy for those bites. The Margherita pizza was my favorite. I liked the added basil and tomatoes. The great white with veggies was also incredible-- it was packed full of veggies, which added different crunch and umami flavors. The thai chicken was good but I think it needed more onion or the sweet chili sauce or even an addition of chicken. It was just lacking a little for me. I will say that all the pizzas were superrrrr cheesy and had very crispy edges, which I love. A little pricey for the portion sizes overall but it's a fun variation of some classic pizza flavors and a nice neighborhood spot. **Apologies for the pizzas being half eaten in the pictures-- we were starving**

Super cute maybe even a lil retro vibe pizza place! Definitely a B'more local staple! Service was great! Friendly, patient, and great recommendations! Good food for the price!

Matthews is a Baltimore staple for good reason. The aroma of delicious, homemade sauce greets you as soon as you walk in and the atmosphere proclaims "We've been here a few decades, come on in and make yourself at home". The vibe inside is fun, casual and classic feeling. I am a huge fan of the Both Cheese Pie and the Roman Pie but honestly all of their pies are really good. Their crust is crisp, almost fried, and the cheese is fresh and sauce is so flavorful. I'm getting hungry just taking about it.

On the way back from a road trip I planned to try Matthew's after hearing about the crab pie. So I ordered the crab pie and the crab bruschetta. I was highly surprised that the bruschetta was so delicious only needed a few more bruschetta slices to scoop up the remaining crab bruschetta filling. It was a lot left after the bread was done. So the crab piece was not as great as I imagined. Lacked flavor and/or sauce. A bit dry and overcooked. Definitely expensive for the size and taste.

A Baltimore classic that serves their own twist on deep dish -esque pizza. We ordered the margherita and meatlover's. Both made fresh, taking about 20-30 min after we ordered. Some of the best tomato sauce I've had (savory, not too acidic). The 10" pizzas weren't large, but we ordered two of them for three people and still had some leftovers enough for one person. Located near Patterson Park if looking for a post meal stroll!

I know this place has been noted as some of the best pizza in the city! I just wasn't fan of the crab pie. Too many onions, and there wasn't a sauce to help bring out the flavors (like an Alfredo or another creamy white sauce). It is a small pizza shop, but they have a dedicated area for "adults only," which was nice as there were families dining and some crying babies. Service was solid, although the pizza took quite some time to come out. We got an order of fries to snack on while we waited and the fries were delicious. I don't know if they were hand-cut, but they had a classic taste. I would come back again to try something else to try a classic pizza and see if that one does the trick.

If you haven't heard yet, Matthew's is a classic Baltimore pizza shop and the pizza is delicious every single time, whether you're eating in, getting delivery, or picking up. Last night we picked up Buffalo Chicken and the Popeye and Olive Oil pizzas, both 10" and they were sooo good.

My wife, my sister-in-law, and I made a long special trip to get Matthew's pizza on New Year's Eve at 4:20 p.m. My sister-in-law was visiting from Delaware and we talked up this business to her because our previous experiences with Matthew's have been great. In fact, last time we were out for lunch, I purchased one of their shirts and regularly wear it to the gym. People ask me about it and I recommend that people try Matthew's. We were all looking forward to enjoying some pizza today. We entered and a white older female behind the register asked, "You eating in?" I noticed that a customer was sitting at a table near the front and a man near the main register, while the white female was on the telephone. We grabbed a seat since we saw that she was busy and we planned on eating in. We waited patiently for nearly 10 minutes as the female worker answered the telephone and handled carry-out orders , so I decided to grab some menus, which were on the wall near the main counter to help the woman out, since she was busy. We also were hungry, so we were looking to order as soon as someone was available to take our order. She YELLED and SCOLDED me for taking some menus. I let her know that I was simply trying to help out because she was busy. She did not respond. My wife and sister-in-law were shocked by this treatment. We were so uncomfortable that we decided to leave. I hope the owner addresses this problematic employee. I'm highly doubtful that we will make the trip ever again nor will I recommend this business.

Matthew's Pizza has been around since the early '40s, and they're known for their Crab Pie. We came here to check their pizzas out, and the place was cute and cozy. Note that there's many who calls in to place orders to go, and some ingredients may run out. We ordered: +the 3 Cheese Pie - with hand-grated mozzarella, reggianito, and ricotta; I think we should have gone for the simple 1- or 2-cheese pie, as the ricotta was just not good in here; there were just clumps of it that was not spread around and didn't seemed to be cooked all the way through +the Crab Pie - topped with backfin crab meat, hand-grated mozzarella, caramelized onions, and Old Bay seasoning; this looked great visually, as there was crab that covered all the surface area; however, not sure how fresh the crab was, as it did have a 'fishy' odor and taste to it The sizes of the pies seemed like personal pan pizzas; the crust, similar to a pan-style. It was stated that they come out 'well-done', but I felt that we should have requested 'extra well-done' or 'extra crispy'. There was only one staff member who was working, and she was on it! She was able to take orders on the phone, for carry-outs, and service all the tables. Street parking can be found around the area. +friendly staff

I loved the mix of Orioles gear, Ravens memorabilia, and traditional Chinese decor. Service was very quick, server was knowledgeable and had great recommendations, and the food was outrageously good. I ordered the pork egg rolls (which I was told they roll in-house), the zha jiang mian, the stir fry green beans, and a chili oil margarita. The green beans were outstanding, which I was not expecting to be my favorite dish! The seasoning was like a soy garlic and they were cooked perfectly. The chili oil margarita was spicy, boozy, and something unusual that I had never tried before. The chili oil gives it a unique flavor and lots of spice. Although the food was a bit on the expensive side, the portions they give you lasted me 2-3 meals, which is definitely worth it. I can't wait to come back to try more of their food and watch some sports!

Loved the cumin which wasn't overpowering. My friends also liked it because it was spiced but not spicy. -Sauerkraut with ribs: this was my least favorite, I was expecting the vegetables to have more bite to them but they were more like German sauerkraut (overcooked and soft). The pork ribs were also a little overcooked. -Stir fry green beans: cooked very well, super flavorful Overall food was solid, and I'd try it again!

While it was a little oily, it was still tasty and enjoyable. We order 3 rolls and the fried Oreos to go and while I recommend the Oreos and cheesesteak eggrolls, I can't recommend the sushi here. The spicy tuna tasted canned, and the trio roll was way too fishy. The volcano was the best, but also just okay. You also don't get any ginger with your rolls. I think this place is better as a regular bar, but for an advertised sushi spot, it doesn't have great sushi.

I actually found Union Hill while planning my friend's 40th birthday dinner from another state, and from the moment I reached out, everything just flowed. I inquired about hosting a dinner and one of the owners, Matt, got back to me within a day. From there, the planning felt effortless. He answered all my questions, stayed in communication, and really helped bring the whole vision together. We had close to 30 people for the dinner in one of their private dining areas, and when I say the staff was impeccable... they were ON IT. My friend had no idea where she was going, so this was a full surprise. Once we gave the staff the green light, they were ready and immediately started accommodating everyone. Everything just flowed from there. We did family-style appetizers, which I loved because everyone got to try a little bit of everything. Everything was flavorful and came out at the perfect pace. For my entrée, I had the salmon and it was so good. And listen... I hosted the whole thing, ate there that night, AND still had leftovers to take home. That's always a win. They were also super accommodating leading up to the event. I was able to drop off the cake and cake pops the evening before, and I was even able to decorate the private dining area, which made everything feel really personal. What could have easily been a stressful experience ended up feeling seamless. The restaurant atmosphere is beautiful. The private dining area worked perfectly for our group, and they even have an upstairs outdoor area as well as a downstairs outdoor space, which I didn't get to experience this time but definitely want to the next time I go back. I'm so grateful I came across Union Hill Kitchen & Craft Bar. It made such a special occasion even better.
