I cannot recommend this shoppe enough. We were driving to my family's house on Christmas and we realized we forgot all of the pastries we bought in Brooklyn in our fridge at home. We panicked because this was part of our gift to my parents. This was the only spot open with beautiful cookies, pastries, and more that was open on Christmas morning. It was amazing. Walked here from Stamford Hospital on my lunch break. This is a small spot with no sitting/eating area. I left my wallet at work so I had to spend a $10 minimum to use my Apple Pay. I got the Strawberry tres leche cake and $5 worth of assorted jelly cookies. It was very mid. I like Di Mare bakery way better. The layer of frosting on top of the cake was thinner than what I'm used to. The custard had a hard thick texture. I prefer my tres leche in a pool of evaporated/condensed milk. The jelly in the cookies didn't taste traditional and the whole cookie broke in crumbs with one bite. It was a bit dry. I shared with my coworkers and they all loved it, to each their own. The lady at the register was super nice with a friendly smile. I felt like they could have had more options. I don't think I'd come back though, because there's so many other great bakers around I rather go to. read more

We always use Matthew's for our birthday cakes and they never let us down. This weekend we had picked up a cake we ordered on Thursday (fast service) a dulce de leche cake with cannoli filling and it was SOOO GOOD. Nice bakery with a lot of different breads and pastries from Latin and South America along with the usual desserts. I ordered a mango mousse cake slice, black forest cake slice, and creme brulee. The creme brulee is delicious. So sweet and creamy. Highly recommend! The black forest cake was ok, not a huge fan though. I like the cream. I didn't taste the mango mousse, but I was told it was delicious. Credit cards only accepted for purchases of more than $10, but that's not hard. Prices are very reasonable. read more

First time there. I got a small box of pastries: pionono, alfajores and one more I don't remember the name of it. Pionono was good; alfajor had the taste of turrón de Doña Pepa, which was not expected and overpowers the taste of dulce de leche, I didn't like it and needs more dulce de leche; last one was the one I don't remember the name... first bite and realized they only put a tiny ridiculous amount of dulce de leche at both ends and that's pretty much it. I live 25 minutes from this bakery. I called to confirm that they had coconut cakes. They said yes we have coconut cakes in various sizes. I drive to the store and then the lady tells me no we don't have coconut cakes, but we have a pineapple cake with coconut on the outside". Waste of an hour of my time. read more

I've been buying from them since I was little. Although I am sad that their first location has been closed now, wherever I get the chance to go to the new location I do. I started off buying their bread, then went to the cookies and now I buy everything!! I loveee their fruit tarts, always get one for my bday. Their cookies are so delicious. I love their empanadas and muffins for breakfast, amazinggg. And their smoothies are delicious. There isn't anything I wouldn't recommended. Except maybe their large sugar cookies with m&m's, not the biggest fan. I wish they'd bring back the jumbo chocolate chip cookies they used to sell!!! Wowwzers!!! I was totally blown away by this place. Totally unexpected. Drove past and had to stop as I'm a sweet freak. So many selections of delicious and delightful little pastries, cakes, pies and a large assortment of breads. Latin flavors abound. I've driven past this place for months, and I finally made myself stop in and check it out. I'm really glad I did! It was incredibly busy, with a lot of people ordering various items. They have a long bakery counter, just loaded up with all sorts of goodies, from cakes to pastries to bread. This is the kind of bakery I've been looking for for ages! When it was my turn, I ordered an eclair and a slice of tiramisu. When I got them home, both were absolutely delicious, and the price was hard to beat, especially in this pricey area. I always love coming to this place. My family and I have been a fan for yours. I will literally come up with any excuse to come here. Our go-to cake is the tres leches cake with strawberry. The cake is light and moist and packed with that condensed milk flavor YUM. We recently tried the mango mousse as an alternative. Also a very good cake. It was a light and fluffy, whipped mango. I've also gotten other treats from them. Their empanadas are PACKED with filling. They add in egg in it, which I forget all the time and don't expect it. I've also gotten the stuffed breads for breakfast. I've had the hot dog and cheese, and also the BEC. Ask them to warm it up in the oven for you if you plan on eating it right away! read more

I love this bakery and have been supporting them for years at both locations. Today is Easter and we called to pickup our cake early, they told us we couldn't. In short we got there late to pick up our dessert we called on the phone to let them know we are outside. Instead someone chooses to laugh and chuckle on the phone as I pleaded to pick up my cake. From outside the bakery to say the least I know I was late and take full responsibility but the person on the phone has left me steaming. This is the first time anything like this has ever happened to me with this establishment. Hopefully you can have someone more professional answering the phone going forward. read more

This is a wonderful bakery, a marvelous one, with two locations in Stamford. Their pastries and little cakes are out of this world. Their version of strawberry shortcake--called Tres Leche (three kinds of milk) which is sold by the large slice, is to die for. They make many kinds of rolls, which are terrific, including their whole wheat or challah. My family loves their oatmeal raisin cookies and their carrot cakes. Their sponge cakes are addictive. Beyond upset to have to write this review of my favorite bakery. I have always sung the praises of Matthew's and always recommended them but my experience yesterday was inexcusable. At the beginning of the week, I ordered a custom cake to be picked up Sat at 4. The cake was $200 which is a lot but it was a big cake so I was fine with the cost. I also payed for the whole thing upfront (which was my mistake). When I got the cake (at 5:30) and opened it at home, it was literally a small white cake out of the case. Absolutely not what I ordered. I called the bakery because I thought maybe there was a mix up, after being on hold for almost 15 minutes with conversations back and forth, it became clear that they forgot to make my cake and somehow thought I wouldn't notice!?!? Now, had the bakery just told me what happened, I wouldn't be so upset but they told me there was nothing that could be done. They said they could make what I ordered but it would be another 30 minutes. I asked if they could deliver the cake since now I was missing the surprise party I was hosting they said no. I asked what they could do to make it right, they said nothing. When I went back for the third time to pick up the cake that was so clearly slapped together (and also not the size I ordered). They again, took a white cake out of the case, covered it with black buttercream and rushed the decorations. The manager refused to speak to me and made a girl the go between. After asking for a discount since the cake looked terrible and for all my trouble, I was offered a $25 discount. I'm not one to ask for things for free but a $25 discount discount on a $200 cake which wasn't even what I ordered is unacceptable. There was no apology, no what can we do to make it right, nothing. I completely understand that things happen but this was NOT the way to deal with it. read more

We absolutely love Matthew's Bakery in our household. I accidentally stumbled upon this local bakery and has been in love with their products since then. Their breads, tiramisu, cookies, and carrot cake all were delicious. Tried, tested and highly recommended! Any local business of such great quality needs a shout out and support. Lol I wish I could post a picture of the goodies but they are so yummy that they don't last long enough for a photo session. If you are iffy about what you want to get (trust me they have so many items, you can't go home with just one item), speak to the staff who are helpful and friendly. I have been coming to this bakery since Thanksgiving and over these past few months it seems the quality seems to be going down, today we got 2 cupcakes a tres leche and a piece of cheese cake and it just tasted a little old, the tres leche was the very dry, usually everything is very moist, soft,creamy and delicious that wasn't the case today. It is also bothersome that the one restroom they have has been closed and out of service since Thanksgiving. read more
