My boss congratulated the team for being with the startup company for a year. She treated us to cupcakes that came with little whiskey shots, which was the first time I ever tried this combination, and it was delightful! I enjoyed every bite. In addition, she brought us chocolate chip cookies that reminded me of the thin, crispy cookies from Tate's Bake Shop, which are my favorite! Your family friendly neighborhood bakery!!! I first heard about this bakery because my apartment building had bought pies from them on pie day....and I have to say the pies are delicious! I was in the neighborhood and spotted this and knew I had to come visit. There was a sign on the window indicating that they are moving locations to a unit right next door. I think it is probably because it will be bigger because there is not much room inside the current location. I walked in and it was pretty busy but the staff moved quickly and soon me and my friends were the only ones inside trying to figure out what to get. We ended up getting a 6 inch oreo cheesecake for $10, which was beautifully wrapped and tasted wonderful. They have a wide assortment of cookies, pastries, tarts, and various desserts. I really have to come back and try their selection. They also have a decent cake selection to choose from for all your celebratory needs. The staff is quick and attentive. Horrible service! I have had SO many people who swear by this place- the other half only have warned me and i should have listened. My poor mother and husband tried to handle the cake for my daughter's birthday. not only do they now have the knowledge or capability to make the cake that I wanted, they told my poor mother that if she didn't put a deposit down "right now", she won't be able to make an order at all! I then found someone who can actually do what we need. my mom cancelled the order and was told she'd get a full refund. Three days later, Maria called me (who wasn't even there, mind you) and YELLED at me on the phone! "They did so much work FILLING OUT THE FORM!" and "why would I put a deposit if i didn't even know i wanted the cake?".. when i started to explain she said "i know! SHE (mom) was here and not sure if you wanted us to do it. but SHE paid and i'm NOT refunding it." They lacked the knowledge to tell my mother what they could actually do, the customer service skills to explain to her how we can go about this and all be happy, and the decent manners to speak to any of us on the phone and give a decent explanation as to why. read more

Delightful! My sister in law recommended when we were in town. She lives for the chocolate chip cookies (both kinds) so we made sure to bring some back for her. Not only beautiful but tasty! My husband and I went into DiMare's without an appointment and they were gracious enough to take us and give us a tasting with about 8 different flavors of cakes. It was amazing! Each flavor was better than the other and in the end, we were torn between two flavors, so what did we do? DiMare gave us alternating tiers of both flavors! We're riding in the car with my BFF from SF, who just moved to Old Greenwich: Him - So on the right is the neighborhood bakery. Me - We should stop and pick up brunch! Him - Nah, all the pastries are way too sweet. Me - Ooooh sounds perfect!! Let's stop! Him - No seriously, even for you they're too sweet. Me - That sounds like a challenge. I'm buying. Wifey: [groans and rolls her eyes] He picked out a biscotti and a frosted brownie, while I (feeling bold) went for a cherry turnover, apple danish, and an almond croissant for all of us to share. Meanwhile, wifey called us both idiots and went next door to pick up a slice of cheese pizza. I tried the almond croissant first. It was pretty tasty. Yes, it was definitely sweet, covered in powdered sugar, but it was also buttery and delicious. It wasn't delicious like still-hot-out-of-the-oven-from-that-boulangerie-in-Paris, but still quite good. The turnover and danish were also pretty good. The filling was really sweet, I understand his concerns. The also could have been a little fresher. Ironically, the biscotti and brownie were both so sweet that we all took one small bite and then threw it out. If you know me, you know I don't throw away pastries lightly. We also got coffee, but it turned out to be hot brown water instead. We would have been better served by going to Starbucks across the parking lot . I have had many experiences with Dimares over the years and feel a loyalty to give them 4 stars. Honestly, they are hovering around a 3.6, but I felt the need to round up. Their new location is sensible and smaller, especially for there level of operations. They have a standard collection of bakery cookies, frosted favorites and delectables. Sometimes I have found some of their products to be on the older side, but never out of date. The big winner here is the custom cakes, especially for the kids birthday party. They deliver from the time the servers assist you to the product they deliver. Actually, you have to pick it up, I don't think they actually deliver. I have lived in Geenwich for over 20 years and have probably been to DiMare twice to pick up a tray of cookies for a friend's gathering. Just about a month ago, my husband and I decided we would not do the usual "go to Arthur Ave for Artuso's cannoli cake" for our son's baptism. Instead, we decided on a cupcake cake for the baptism knowing we'd have a lot of kids and kids love cupcakes. I called and spoke with Sabrina (I think that's her name) and she was so helpful. I really didn't know what I wanted, other than a cupcake cake, and she guided me on the buttercream, the color and the right amount to have for our guests. The day arrived and the cupcake cake in the shape of a cross turned out beautifully! It was so special and we were so thankful we had the addiditonal cupcakes on the side. We knew the kids would eat the cupcakes, what we weren't expecting was the how much the adults raved about them. "The best cupcakes EVER!" usually people decline taking cupcakes home because they don't want to eat them later...well, these cupcakes went right out the door. (ok, I save 2 for my husband). Giving them 3 stars because it's good quality and delicious seriously everything there is just good and fresh. However every time I go in there I feel like I'm inconveniencing the girls that work there. I thought the first couple of times were due to the stress of holiday. But I've gone in since on a random Tuesday when they are not jam packed and they just aren't friendly. They are annoyed when you ask for something they aren't warm and welcoming the last time I went in was the last straw. I hate going in there and anticipate being treated like an annoyance. Came here after getting a $5 certificate from my apartment complex. Huge selection of fresh homemade pastries- have basically everything you could want or think of. Service was mediocre at best, the girls were not friendly whatsoever and unfortunately no prices posted anywhere. I'm sure they have a reason for this? Kind of annoying you have to ask them the price of every single item though, tripled the time I spent here just because I didn't know what I wanted to order. Prices were good though! Ended up getting a mini marbled cheesecake, some powdered almond cookies, an mnm cookie and a chocolate cream puff and all were phenomenal. So definitely not docking them on the quality or taste of their baked goods- they were awesome. I asked her not to but she went - trying to duplicate one really good cake we got from here years ago but they just keep getting worse and worse. Latest chocolate cake with fudge in the middle tasted like a 5 lb sugar bag landed in it. Flavor of 800 mm grams of sugar and fat. Frosting and filling inedible they were so sweet and the white cake layers were dry and flavorless. Nobody could eat it. Never tasted anything so sweet in my life. Waste of what should have been a special 80th birthday cake. Over $40 down the drain. Shameful what bakers are selling to people these days. read more

It's been a couple of days since I've been in Greenwich, and other than a creme brulee - I've been on a dry spell when it comes to desserts. Di Mare Pastry Shop was definitely one of the best decisions ever! Although I did not have the pleasure of stepping into the Pastry Shop, I was greeted by a box full of their deliciousness! Their Lobster Tail (I know it doesn't sound like a dessert, but trust) - is so yummy! Extra crispy on the outside with wonderful fluffy creme and chocolate chucks on the inside - OMG! This treat is worth suffering for and it makes life just seem that much sweeter. Thumbs up to their Lobster Tail! I'm not even sure what it was but, their blueberry sponge-cake within a cannelloni-type outside was quite lovely with my tea and coffee! One of the best damn pastry shops in CT and NY for that matter. They make cannoli the correct way: 3" x 1" (the size of your finger because that is how they were made by wrapping the dough around it), with grated citron, and NO chocolate chips. Ok you can have them with chocolate chips, but you really shouldn't. Made by a little old Italian lady who is 4 ft tall and they come sealed in a white square box tied up with red and white twine. They also have a selection of mini pastry from Sfogliatelle to Zeppole. My recommendation is to get a box of cannoli and a second box of 2 of each mini pastry for you group. read more

My family has been going to DiMare's for as long as I can remember. When I don't feel like baking I head over there and pick up a great cake or other pastries. This review is for the cake design. I went in to order a special occasion cake. I asked if I could see some sample photos to get ideas. "No sorry. Nothing to look at". Sales girl couldn't be bothered. I had to use Pinterest to find some ideas-which I had to send to them. What my cake ended up looking like was so amateurish- they should have been embarrassed. Why does one of the best bakeries in Greenwich not employ a top cake designer? Mind boggling. It's a real shame because the cake was over the top delicious (why I gave 2 stars not 1).
