We stopped into By the Way Bakery to get some treats after a walk. The staff was friendly and efficient. We ordered a shnibble, a blueberry muffin, and a cream puff. Everything tasted great, however, some items weren't exactly what I expected. The cream puff was more like a cake with filling. It was very light and delicious, but not quite a cream puff. The shnibble seemed to be lacking some chocolate flavor even though it was all chocolate. Still tasted great though. The blueberry muffin was as expected and great. By the Way is a great place for gluten free treats, just not always the way you expect it! read more

There is metered street parking in front of the store. The ladies were nice but of the 4 items we ordered gave us 2 wrong things. We didn't realize it until much later in the day. Oh well. The chocolate chip cookie was okay, the whoopie pie was yummy and the cupcake was the best of the three items. The cupcake was moist and the frosting was excellent. First impression is everything, and staff failed miserably. Zero stars for customer service. I was very disappointed with the man working the counter. I dislike giving business to someone who doesn't engage or help. I am spending a good amount and feeling like such an inconvenience. I was buying for a friend, I don't know your products and it was my first visit. I explained that I need dessert for 6 people, he smirked and said ok??? I asked what do you recommend? We have ordered birthday cakes from here on numerous occasions and they have been very solid and good. You have to order a couple of days in advance to go pick up but it's been worth it for us. Picking it up has been a very slow experience so give yourself some time. I like that they have gluten free. The sprinkles cake was good and the chocolate on chocolate was also very good. read more

Don't bother calling, they really can't help you or they just get it all wrong. Just show up and hope for the best by sight alone. Most of the baked goods are out of this world, a few miss the mark. For actual help, go to the Hastings-on-Hudson location. The staff there actually know what they are doing and where they are working. I just wish that that location weren't so very far from me. She answered all of our questions, had a tremendous amount of patience as we went back and forth on details, and was quick to get us all the information we needed. As if a global pandemic wasn't enough to deal with... Enter the big August 2020 storm. Dun, dun, dunnnnn! By the Way Bakery was among the many establishments that lost power and were without for longer than they should have been. Helene called me to explain the situation, apologize for it, and tell me that she was in the process of buying a generator to try to get her locations back on the grid. While we were really looking forward to having a tasty gluten-free cake, it seemed like the cards were not stacked in our favor. But, somehow, HELENE CAME THROUGH! And, let me tell you... it was more amazing than I could have ever expected! I'm still drooling at the thought of the magical slice of heaven that By the Way Bakery created. Lemon poppy cake with raspberry jam and lemon curd filling with a vanilla chiffon frosting. I really missed the memo on this one- big time and found out, that By The Way Bakery is gluten-free and dairy-free. I'm neither...by the way. I love my full-fat pastries. There......I said it! I love butter and I love cream. But I came here primarily for Hot Chocolate or a Chai on a rainy day, but didn't get either. And I also didn't want to leave empty-handed. Ashley was very pleasant and explained to me, why By The Way doesn't make them. Ok. I get it now. I suggested that perhaps they could make Hot Chocolate with Coconut or Almond Milk- it'll probably be a long stretch, but who knows? It might taste good. I'm willing to try By The Way if they offered those options. Though I do like both my hot beverages made with regular milk or half and half. But she entertained my thought and went with my flow. Oh---and by the way, there are also locations in Hastings-on-Hudson and NYC. Although I'm not gluten or dairy-free, I'm not totally dismissing By The Way Bakery. I have gotten several kosher pastries here & am a very big fan of the sour cherry muffin. I have only gone bright and early in the morning so they had a large selection of their pastries. The mini lemon poppy loaf was also very good, the texture was spongy & I kept wanting more! The cashier was more then helpful, they were so helpful with providing us with their allergy book which has as far as I was aware, all of their products included. I have nothing bad to say about the quality of the food. However, the people who work here are very dismissive and not nice at all. This review is based on the two By The Way Bakery baked goods that I purchased at Whole Foods in Greenwich. I purchased a slice of cake that had frosting and pink and purple sprinkles on it and also a mini bundt carrot cake with a glaze frosting on top. I took about two bites of the cake and almost dropped dead .. it was shocking sweet that it was beyond disgusting! So I looked at the packaging and saw that it had 50g of sugar in it! The carrot cake had 55g of sugar. Yea this place makes gluten and dairy free baked goods but come on.. don't over load it with sugar it's not enjoyable!! It's poisonous!! I'm about to call Whole Foods right now they legit should just stick to making their own baked goods and take this disgusting crap off their shelves!! read more

Hell to the yea. My favorite dairy and gluten free bakery and they are in CT now! I have NEVER had a bad thing here--their new location did NOT disappoint. The layout is super cute, the staff is super friendly, and the treats are melt in your mouth delicious. I don't know what they put in their almond cookies, but, seriously, they are like crack. Omg My buddy brought these for me. He told me he has these amazing Coconut Macaroons that are gluten free, dairy free and awesome. He did not do them justice these little fcuking things are good, like so good I got three more from him. The items are pricier than a typical bakery but the lack of inflammation these desserts cause on my digestion makes it a special treat. Wish there was more icing on the tiny lemon poppyseed individual cakes( like the large bundt one) Such delicious luscious desserts. And their coffee (Stumptown) is my all time favorite!!!! With a daughter who has Celiac's disease, we need to be extremely careful with any food that we purchase. Granted, I did not know this place was gluten free or dairy free. I came to this bakery to look for bread, as any decent place that dubs itself a "bakery" should have in my opinion. The lady at the counter told me that they have dinner rolls or baguettes. I opted for the baguette. She handed me a loaf of material that was roughly 2lbs in weight (triple the weight that I was expecting). Then the bill came at 12.50! For a baguette!!! The cherry on top was the taste. Sand. Like a dried out savory muffin but with less flavor. Again, we were not told this was gluten free or different in any way from a baguette that any normal consumer would expect. I ended up throwing this baguette in the garbage where it belongs. Let's hope people with gluten insensitivities also do not get coerced into buying 12 dollars for a loaf of sand. read more

After driving specifically to find this gluten free bakery, we go in excitedly to get a few items that their online menu advertised (cake slices, mini cakes ) to find out they do not sell slices and did not have mini cakes as their website was "out of date" but they said "you can buy the large cake" which was ridiculous for us to do since we don't know if we like it and it's over 30.00 and a ton of cake for two people. So then they offer the two vanilla cakes they have sliced up (the cake part tasted stale since they cut it up for samples as well) They advertised cookies and had one out of the several on the website so the owner comes out , rudely says ' you can either have a slice of what we have pre cut or buy this chocolate cookie". We came for chocolate hazelnut sliced cake and an oatmeal raisin cookie. So we said "that's not what we drove ALL this way for" and she goes "oh well sorry but we don't sell that in slices " then she ABRUPTLY turned away and went back into the kitchen. We were shocked at how rude and in accommodating this woman (owner we found out ) was. Never would go there again.
