What an absolutely delightful bakery! When we were in town, I just knew we'd have to make a trip here - do you know how hard it is to find a dedicated gluten free bakery? To add to it, they are completely nut-free as well! And they offer vegan options, too. We got a smattering of cupcakes as well as a brownie and a cookie/caramel/fudge piece of pie that gave me such a sugar high that it made my teeth zing - my teen was in heaven. All of the cupcakes we tried were absolutely delish! From the lemon raspberry to the key lime - all really terrific. They are now fully gluten-free with several vegan options. I promise that you can't tell that the cupcakes are gluten free. The Oh My Pie and monkey bun were delicious, and I would definitely get those again. The red velvet cupcake was perfection. The best I've had in years (including glutenous ones). Now I need to figure out how to get here more often. This is mostly a take-out place, though they have a couple of tables. Service was quick and friendly. Wow! I highly recommend this place! They have really good cupcakes. The Cake Box is located in the downtown area. They have their parking lot for the building. The shop is really relaxing and pretty. The service is great. You'll find this huge lamp filled with sprinkles. They have seating inside and outside. I had the cookies an d cream and the caramel. Both were really good. The cupcakes are baked at their Ridgefield store and they're brought in. They had sone good fall flavors, like pumpkin and apple. Highly recommend! read more

I think most of the reviews here forgot how a cake should be. Their products are so dense you can throw it at someone's head and knock them out. Don't let their fancy boxes fool you. Some of them are too sweet with no balance. Maybe it's the only best choice locally? Or the reviews are from family and friends? All these 5 star reviews are delusional. The reason why this shop is still open is because it has a monopoly on the area. There are no other good options within a 5 mile radius. Read great reviews. Orders cupcakes for my friends birthday. Wanted one cupcake to say Happy Birthday. Well they decided that it was okay to put letters on individual cupcakes so now they look really ugly. They even used a frosting/icing color that doesn't show up on the dark cupcakes. What's the purpose of putting letters on cupcakes that can't be seen. They could have called. They could have not made it an option for cupcakes. A good icer could have put on smaller lettera. More importantly. They should have called. Why would anyone think that this was cute. They didn't apologize. They didn't offer to take it off. Nothing. I'm reserving one star for taste and will modify. But the service gets a zero. P.S. I also called the store before pickup to ensure that order was done. With only one person allowed in the store and at least two people in the store, when I called I got voicemail. Called the other site and they answered right away. And they are busier. How is it that this westport site could not answer the phone and there were at least two people in the store. Definitely will not come back. read more

My family and I walked into The Cake Box this morning at around 10:30 AM, totally unaware that the store opens at 11 AM. The owner was kind and gracious enough to sell us cupcakes even though they were still setting up for the day. My children have multiple food allergies, so it's hard to find a bakery that can provide fresh-baked cupcakes that are allergy friendly for my girls. Ordered cupcakes for my sons birthday party and they were pure heaven. I really wanted Sprinkles because I love Sprinkles and they bring back happy memories but I am really happy I tried Cake Box. Very friendly staff, 24 hr order turn around and easy pickup in Westport morning of party. Got 30 cupcakes, Vanilla with Vanilla buttercream, chocolate with vanilla buttercream and real chocolate sprinkles and stracciatella. Only thing I would say is maybe next time I would ask for half the frosting they usually use. The cake is delicious enough so don't need to overcomp with frosting. In any case, they were delicious and my guests had no problem finishing them before the party ended. I will absolutely come back to Cake Box next year. read more

This is the best cupcake place in Fairfield County. We used to go to the one in Ridgefield all the time, but we were very excited to find out that there was one in Westport! The cupcakes are perfect. The size is good, especially for events. The icing is never too sweet, and the cake itself is perfectly baked. Not too moist, but not dry either. I'm normally a big fan of fun cupcakes, but my favorite here is actually the vanilla. The simplicity is the best part about it. I went to the cake box a few weeks ago to purchase a few cupcakes for my son's birthday. From the get-go, the lady behind the counter whose name is Melinda, was very condescending and made snarky comments at me and actually yelled, almost screaming, at her coworker in front of me. Taken aback, I said I would take my business elsewhere, to which brought more snide comments. She was very irritable, irascible, and I don't see how she can be good for business, especially when she treats customers as such completely unprovoked. Never have I experienced a service like this, and I don't recommend people go when that lady is on shift. read more

While I can only vouch for the gluten free cupcakes, they are by far the best gf cupcakes I have ever had. And that's coming from someone who only recently had to reluctantly dive into this gf lifestyle and has since tried many a gf cupcake. I also love love love that they do not upcharge to make the cupcakes gluten free, as nearly every other baker does. Sorry to say but the cupcakes I bought on Friday morning when the shop opened, were dry, dry ,dry - and actually ruined the meal we had as we then did not have a good dessert for our birthday celebration. I could not even eat the chocolate cupcakes. The buttercream on most of the cupcakes was OK but the cupcake itself was uneatable. And the cupcakes are not cheap. I never write reviews here. I picked up a "ready made" cake today. "Black and white". Chocolate on inside and white buttercream outside. Taste is subjective. It was waaaay tooooo sweet. Yikes. Cake is dry and then the heavy and too sweet filling and frosting. I like CAKE. That's why I buy a CAKE and not FROSTING. 40% cake and 60% frosting and filling. $35 for a small cake. Since this bakery gets such rave reviews as the best cupcake in Ct-I thought I needed to try. Cupcake tastes are pretty subjective but after trying 4 different varieties-here's my take. Cake is moist and good texture-though with the frosting these are WAY too sweet. The "buttercream" doesn't taste like traditional buttery frosting-and honestly was almost inedible. I wondered if they used artificial sweeteners. Each cupcake is pretty small and they're expensive. Sorry not impressed-and certainly not the best in the state. Try RJ Julia's tea shop in Madison for what a great cupcake should taste like. read more
