Ehh, not going to lie... I think I've had some better pizza from Mod before. What kept this location from receiving a 2-stars is the ambiance of it all. This seems to be a location that I would enjoy coming to solo, sitting at the bar, getting more than likely some wings & not pizza. IF we're talking location, ambiance, and liquor options. This night in particular I ordered the calamari which was not that good - did not taste fresh. Additionally, my server confused said calamari as cauliflower and our table of 2 got that appetizer as well - which also... was not that good. They were big in pieces, somewhat undercooked, but the sauce was manageable. We secondly ordered our 2-pizzas to share and have a good conversation flowing. Another thing that saved our experience is that our drinks were good too!! I had a margarita and my friend had a mule that we both wound up ordering seconds of. I would try their wings again on a good day, maybe when a football game is on.
Came to this location for the first time with a couple of other friends. Hubby and I ordered the unlimited breakfast with unlimited drinks, and the shrimp and grits with a dragon fruit mojito. Total came to approximately $102 (not including tip). What's hot - Menu. For a brunch menu, pretty reasonable, although there are some things lacking, which I address below. Their appetizers include breakfast items, like cinnamon rolls and biscuits. There are also lunch items like burger sliders and chicken wings. - Quality. Pretty delicious. My shrimp and grits are well seasoned and not too salty. Their drinks are very flavorful and not too sweet. From the items my husband ordered from the unlimited brunch, he liked the steak and eggs, fig and prosciutto pizza, biscuits, mini burgers, cinnamon bun, and French toast (in that order). - Price. Fairly reasonable. Their unlimited brunch is $34, which allows you to order multiple items on their menu. The staffer assigned to our table informed us we can order 2 items per order and the entire table has to order their unlimited brunch. Only my husband wanted the unlimited brunch, so the staffer had to ask the manager if that would be possible. Additionally, when you order their unlimited brunch option, be prepared for a half portion, rather than the full portion. - Location. Good location with many options available, like the movie theatre, shops, and other restaurants. - Seating. They do not appear able to accommodate large groups more than 4. I also recommend making reservations. - Service. Fairly good. The staffer checked in on us fairly regularly, but they do not appear well-staffed, especially when it's busy. We definitely had to wait a fair amount of time in between orders for my husband's unlimited brunch. What's not - Acoustics. They play loud music, which makes it very difficult to have a conversation with anyone in your group. The layout does not absorb sound well, so the music is a big detractor. Our group definitely noticed it and did not appreciate it at all. - Menu. Our reservation was for 11:30am, which is peak brunch time. However, I was hoping to also be provided their lunch menu, which they did not provide. Their brunch menu does not have as many breakfast options, which is disappointing. For example, there are no omelettes and not many egg options. - Parking. There are options for parking, but be prepared to pay for parking, because this is a busy location. There are some places with free parking, but just be prepared to spend time looking for parking. Final answer Am willing to return, but would only return for a small group, because of the terrible acoustics. Not a first choice.
You really can't go wrong with a happy hour here!!! The ambiance of the place was really nice! The music was chill and we had the World Cup on the screen so it was very entertaining to have that playing while conversing with friends. Jason was amazing! He was so sweet at the bar and catered to whatever my friends and I requested. He was also very quick to bring out the drinks and food requested. We got a lot of food and I honestly forgot to grab some pictures because we ate them up so quickly! The calamari and the sticky pork ribs stole the show most definitely! The margarita and hot honey pepperoni pizza was also very delicious. The chicken pesto wasn't my favorite to be honest I've just had better pesto in the past. The California roll and the shrimp tempura rolls weren't that good in my opinion it just didn't have that authentic taste. The espresso martini was great! The passion fruit margarita was on the sweeter side but it was still nice and then the dragonfruit lemonade was great! Overall I would definitely come back for another happy hour or just for dinner in general!
I wanted to eat outside, so I was looking for restaurants with patios. I was coming from Greenbelt and was on Georgia Avenue when Matchbox popped up as 1 of the suggested restaurants. I've been to other locations, so I decided to try this one as I've never been to this location before. Food- 3 Drink-4 Waitress-2 Ambience-5 Overall -3 Let's start with the food. At first I was disappointed when I saw they took off my favorite appetizer, so I ordered the Cripsy Calamari Appetizer instead. So as I am waiting my waitress had stopped by twice to ask me if I was ready to put in my entree and every-time I had to tell her no as I haven't even gotten my appetizer yet. This rubbed me the wrong, I felt like I was being rushed and that didn't make sense as this was on a Thursday at 1 pm and the restaurant was practically empty. Now the patio seating was lovely and I truly enjoyed basking in the sun while sipping on my Sauvignon Blanc, I have so many memories from DTS and it was nice to be in the area again. Anyways my Appetizer came and it was sooo good. I loved the fried jalapeños in the mix it really gave a nice kick to my Calamari. I decided to order the Shrimp Tempura Roll which is a new addition to the menu but whew this is where it went left. It was NOT good, drenched in sauce and fish eggs ... and the presentation of the roll looked sloppy and rushed especially considering one roll didn't even have Shrimp in it. There was barely any cucumber inside ... on top of all that they still gave me side dippings too... I ate 1 roll and it was nasty and too much. When I told my waitress I didn't like it and explained why she just said ok and walked away. It was very clear to me she did not care and so it's very clear to me that I won't be going there ever again.
This is our first time at this location. Ambience was hopping. Service could be a little better. Food was great for most part. The only dish that we would not get again is cream of crabs. We all absolutely loved the Crispy Brussels. The roasted cauliflower were pretty tasty also. The Grilled chicken and avocado, shrimp and grits, and BBQ Jerk Pizza entrees were all winners.
My husband and I stopped by for their Brunch yesterday and it was so worth it! My type of vibe, a live dj, and bottomless mimosas for $25. I got the catfish and grits and we got a pepperoni pizza. The food was delicious. They also offer a brunch buffet that has lots of options including a waffle station but I wasn't in the mood for that so maybe I'll check that out next time. The restaurant itself is nice, and spacious, the ambiance is a cool little vibe for a date or to bring your friends. My only reason for not giving them 5 stars is because of the bartender. We sat at the bar and he just wasn't a friendly as I would have liked. Other than that the service was great, and the food came out quickly.
We went to Matchbox in Silver Spring today for a family brunch. We used to frequent this restaurant regularly over the last couple of years, but hadn't been back in a few months. The vibe has definitely changed. The restaurant was packed, with grass wall and plant decor and a DJ playing music, which gave it more of a trendy, day party feel than the laid-back brunch spot we remembered. They've also shifted to an all-you-can-eat brunch menu on weekends until 4 p.m., priced at $42 per adult and $14 per child. One important thing to note is that you can't take any food to go if you don't finish it. With kids, the pricing and restrictions just didn't make sense for us, so we opted to order individual entrees instead. I ordered the steak and eggs with French toast and a vanilla latte, and everything was good. The kids got cheese pizzas and absolutely loved them, which was a win. The other adults in our group also enjoyed their meals. Overall, the food is still good, but the new brunch format and louder atmosphere may not be ideal for everyone. If this is your vibe, check it out!

I can't remember the last time I gave five stars to a restaurant on a first visit. I thought I had been here before, but once I arrived, I realized I hadn't. I came for brunch this past Sunday for my best friend's birthday, and I'm so glad she picked this spot! The food was amazing. Service could've been better since they were slow with water and clearing tables but the food more than made up for it. They offer unlimited brunch with shareable plates. I ordered the shrimp and grits and loved that it came with turkey sausage and no pork. It wasn't as hot as I like, but still delicious. The peaches and cream waffles were very indulgent. Ask for toppings on the side or they'll get soggy. I still enjoyed them so much I had to stop myself from finishing the whole thing. The breakfast potatoes were great with fresh onions and peppers and a perfect crunch. I also tried the lemon blueberry pancakes after eyeing another's plate. I asked for toppings on the side and was glad I did because the top pancake was crispy and amazing on its own. The warm maple butter was so good I wanted to dip everything in it. I went with tea, but they have a big drink menu including a mimosa tower, which my friend got. A DJ was playing, people were dancing, and the vibe was perfect. I definitely want to come back. I was full but still wanted to try more. Just don't drink too much water or overdo it on the carbs too avoid my mistake but enjoy yourself to the fullest.
Always enjoy the pizza and drinks at Matchbox but came for weekend brunch for the first time. If you're looking for a decently priced brunch with lots of food options this is a place worth checking out. They also offer strawberry lemon drops and espresso martini as a bottomless options in addition to mimosas.
I don't know where to start with this location. The outdoor seating overlooking the downtown area. The DJ inside setting the Sunday brunch mood with old school R&B. Wait, I know. It's the unlimited brunch by far. Our server told us to go crazy and that's exactly what we did. We kept asking just to make sure, but yes, you can order EVERYTHING on the brunch menu as many times as you want for 2 hours. All for a mind blowing price of $38 per person. You want an unlimited mimosa, lemon drop or espresso martini? $25 per person! The quality you receive at such an astounding price is unmatched here. Now for the food. The hits: Blueberry Lemon Pancakes Seafood Scramble Shrimp and Grits Peaches and Cream Pepperoni Pizza Old Bay Wings Strawberry Lemon Drop Martini Could have been better, needed seasoning: Catfish and Grits Fried Chicken Stuffed French Toast was amazing flavor wise, but the bread was too hard on the edges. Mini burgers were more bread than burger, but the meat was cooked well. I can't speak for other locations, but Silver Spring has set the standard for me.

I celebrated my lunch birthday here with a friend and had a blast. Our amazing server was Desiree, and let's just say she is the reason why this place is getting 5 stars! Food was from meh to great. I highly recommend the Dynamite Shrimp. It was just yummy ( needed a bit more spice). We also ordered the Nashville Hot Chicken sandwich and it wasnt good. The flavors were simply off. I would not recommend this, not even if youre hungry. Basically id come back just to interact with Desiree. So polite, so kind and efficient with all of my millions of requests. I came to Matchbox on a Sunday morning before the brunch - rush hour and I absolutely loved everything about this restaurant. The customer service was top notch and the food was pretty good. It's definitely a place to give a try if you live nearby. My friend and I enjoyed the all American breakfast and crab cake eggs Benedict, it looked amazing and the portion sizes were very reasonable. read more

I've found my new favorite pizza! I mean, no disrespect to Fire and Smoke, but my new love is Prosciutto + Fig (sans the prosciutto and blue cheese - gotta keep it vegetarian). This pizza is so good, it's like having dessert for dinner. The garlic is not overwhelming, and the combo of honey and figs really works. It's not dripping in honey, but you may need to ask your server for some wet naps. You must try this! Trust. I paired it with a refreshing blueberry limeade made to order drink loaded with blueberries which mostly sat on the bottom. I recommend the restaurant order some ice tea spoons because you'll want to scoop out every last one! For happy hour get the mushroom or Fire and Smoke pizza (save some greenbacks), but on any other occasion go for the Honey and Fig. You can keep the meat on! read more
Decided to visit matchbox on a Friday evening to check out what this restaurant has to offer. We ordered the 3.6.9 sliders which comes with your option of cheese, toasted brioche bun and topped with an ample amount of onion straws. The burger was decent, it wasn't really seasoned well... kind of bland. The pizza (margherita and matchbox meat) was delicious! Both pizzas were perfectly made and I will deff return for the pizza alone! The rose strawberry margarita was really good too! Overall, i will definitely return! The customer service was great! We didn't make reservations but was able to find a spot for 2 so deff make reservations ahead especially on the weekends or Friday night because it was pretty packed. Parking is available at the garage nearby and it's free after 7pm on weekdays i believe and free on the weekends. We parked in wayne garage which was a short 3 min walk from matchbox! read more

*Happy Hour Review Only* Recently stopped by on a Wednesday during happy hour (some great specials) and it wasn't too packed. I was happy they brought a Matchbox to Silver Spring - I've dined at other locations in the area and always enjoyed the food. They didn't change the inside much from the previous two places that were here - Austin's Grill and Hen Quarter! My friend and I sat at the bar and ordered some items from the happy hour menu. I got the rose sangria and it was pretty good! I commented on how nice it was to have a drink with a plastic straw...I know, I know...it's for the betterment of the environment, but for someone who frequents DC spots where plastic straws are banned, it was refreshing. My friend ordered the spinach artichoke dip and I was confused when it came out - looked like a bowl of breadcrumbs to me. He offered me some but I had no desire to try it. The service was good though! The bartenders were friendly and attentive and great customer service always goes a long way. Thank you! My favorite is hanging with the bartenders who always provide an good pour and fun and friendly environment. The one thing they could do is add more songs to their rolling soundtracks... There's not really much to say about Matchbox Pizza. It's a good pizza spot. It's not bad, not exceptional, just what you expect from a pizza spot. We ordered a pepperoni pizza and a margherita pizza and they were both pretty good. The only unfortunate thing about the pizzas were that both of them were quite burnt. The service was normal. The server was polite, and did what they were supposed to. They didn't go above and beyond and they weren't bad. There is no free parking around matchbox. You can either do stret parking or park in the Wayne ave. garage. I think that the garage is the best option because it is only $1.00 an hour. One thing I thought was really cute about the restaurant was that all around they have framed matchboxes from all over the world. I like that they kept the theme of their name even in decor. Nia was the bomb dot com! So much positive energy from the time we sat down until the time we left. I'll definitely be coming back and asking to be seated in her section. At her recommendation I had the Bourbon Crumble (?) cocktail, the spinach artichoke dip, as well as the ahi tuna burger. The cocktail didn't have enough bite in it for me, although it was very well-made. The spinach dip was good, but for the price I expected a slightly larger portion. Also, some of the chips that I had with the spinach dip were stale. Fortunately, it was only one or two. The ahi tuna burger was absolutely ridiculous! An ahi tuna steak seared medium rare, topped with a spicy, gingery Asian slaw, and tangy tartar sauce on a brioche bun....So good! You won't find this on the burger on the menu, as it's one of the specials that they recently added. If your server doesn't mention it to you, be sure to ask for it. You won't regret it. I also found out that this place has bottomless brunch on Saturdays and Sundays, plus a DJ that comes in every Friday and Saturday night after 10 p.m. I can't wait to get back here and check that out. I haven't eaten Matchbox in nearly 2 years. I used to enjoy visiting the Fort Lauderdale/Sawgrass location before I moved out of South Florida. There isn't one close to where I currently live.... So when I found one along my travel route, I knew I had to order a bite or two to-go. I ordered a half an and half (fire & smoke and holy grail), and an order of tuna tacos. Somehow the order came in as 1/2 fire & smoke, 1/2 fire & smoke. :-/ That's a bit silly! I am sure it was an error on me since I was traveling on the highway and didn't double check my order prior to submitting. Luckily the manager on duty, John Ospina, gave me grace and replaced my pizza with the correct order. Even better, he let me keep the incorrect order! 2 PIZZAS!! YAY!! That might not be much but it was truly a nice gesture and simply, good customer service. I thoroughly enjoyed my pizza (well, only a few slices) during the additional 2 hours drive North that I had left to do. Thank you John. After having driven 13+ hours already, that simple gesture truly made my day. :-) And my palate was pleasantly pleased!! The pizza and the tuna were perfect! read more

It was my first time eating at matchbox and I had such a pleasant experience! This is a great addition to downtown Silver Spring. We were about fifteen minutes late for our reservation but we grabbed a drink at the bar. The bar is really cute and not overly cluttered with libations. We had wine and beer. The cabernet is pretty good. I give five stars for service and a four stars for the pizza. Thanks to Kyle for the awesome service with updates on our food as well as his quest to find my boyfriend's missing credit card which he left back at the bar. I had the signature fire and smoke pizza and loved the chipotle spice and flavor. A ten inch pizza was pretty filling. Order a 14 inch if you plan to share a pie. My boyfriend enjoyed his burger. It was opening night so we sampled a classic cheese pizza sample and it was good. I was not like "omg this is amazing," but it's a solid pizza. I also thought to myself that I'll definitely come back since the menu has a lot of different items besides pizza. The jalapeno margarita looked really good and I'd like to try it next time. I recommend coming here if you want to have a nice sit down experience. They have an outdoor patio to enjoy during warmer days and happy hour specials too I believe. Our experience ended on a good note. I joined the rewards program so I can get a free pizza on my birthday and $10 off after I spend $125. read more

The place I wanted to love. We stopped by to enjoy the recent collaboration between Milk Honey and matchbox. During this period we had over 3 waiters in the course of 30 hours. Each one we had to explain our request. It seems the reason for the shift in waiters was due to low staff due to covid. I ordered the crab hash dish. There was barely any crab on the dish. I would have this back but waited over 45 minutes for the food. In addition we did have to send our appetizer dynamite shrimp sauce back. It had been sitting in the kitchen for a while so it had a darker harder surface. Appetizers need to appear before the main meal. read more

So I've been to the Rockville location of Matchbox before and I really wanted to like that one...but didn't. That may explain my low expectations for this outing but I have to admit I was surprised. Granted, I was there early for lunch (1130) but the greeting was pleasant and I was quickly seated. I think the wait staff are still trying to figure out stations so I'll give them a pass for the wait before my waiter showed up. That said, he was engaging and pleasant and had a good handle on the menu. I went with the filet mignon because I was intrigued by "the secret" butter (shhh...on the old menu they called it "herb butter"). The steak was cooked perfectly to my order and the grilled asparagus was equally lovely. I was in and out of there in about 35 minutes so that's a definite plus for those considering it as a work lunch locale. I'll most likely go back and see how their salmon is but for now I'd definitely categorize this place as a safe bet for lunch. read more

I feel like I got robbed last night. I got there at around 8:15pm, and ordered a bottomless mimosa. I was only there 45 minutes, only had one bottle of champagne, yet I still got charged two bottomless mimosas totalling $50. I asked if I could just be charged for the one bottle. They said no. I understand what I ordered, but I do think I was overcharged for it given the fact that I didn't even get to sit there long enough to enjoy it all. The food was good though and so was the service overall. I just think a bit more understanding would've been nice. read more

Very nice experience going In for carry out even with pandemic concerns. Ordered from the bar. Bartender masked and freshly gloved made me feel comfortable and at ease. As other customers left inside the tables were sprayed, and wiped down immediately. My carry out (burger and salad) was consumed an hour after leaving the restaurant. Very happy with the quality. Located in downtown silver spring with plenty of happy hours to choose from. So, hop around if you want. I Enjoyed this establishment during happy hour from 3pm-6pm. They have a BOP so I recommend the margarita pizza on the happy hour menu. There is so much more to enjoy on the menu. The happy hour drinks were interesting and full of flavor not too strong but you can taste the alcohol. Very nice place with indoor and outdoor seating. Staff was very welcoming and pleasant. I will be stopping in again. read more

Great tasting pizza but was surprised to be brought and then billed for bottled water when we requested tap water. This was quite unfortunate because the pizza itself was very good - I split a chicken pesto pizza with a friend and was very satisfied. However not only did we not ask for bottled water but it turned out to be very expensive (I think $7 or $8 for a big bottle) so this felt like a bit of a ripoff. I'm not someone to make a scene over a few dollars but doubt I'll be going back here even though the pizza was quite good. read more
