House-made noodles and topped with Sourdough garlic toast. Two lunch entrees and a cocktail ran me $52 dinero! I took the seafood gumbo to go for lunch the next day. It was pretty good; although I don't care for mussels in my gumbo (It's a me problem) I had this blueberry spritzer that was semi-sweet and very potent. The next thing I want to try for the Fall weather is The Spiced Pear Sour cocktail. And I learned about an amazing Brazilian artist by the name of Marcia Maria. The song "Colo de Rio" started to play, and I was enjoying every single thing about my visit. This is one of my favorite places hands down and I should come here more often! read more

Yum! I've been to Frank's many times but had never tried its sister restaurant, District Bistro. Now I wish I had tried it a lot earlier. It's a cute, intimate space with great service and excellent food. I got the salmon and avocado burger, which was really good. It was accompanied by rosemary parmesan fries that were fantastic. My friends tried a bunch of different items, including the chicken fried pork chop, duck breast, and a burger. Everyone was really happy with their choices and liked their drinks as well - the blueberry elderflower was a particular favorite. I look forward to going back! read more

Just a hidden gem and fantastic experience all around. The attention to us in the restaurant was the right amount. The vibe was for a sit down, but it looked like a really cool place to get a seat at the bar for a Friday night drink! We got fried green tomatoes and calamari to share. Both were seasoned well and fried crispy! There was no sogginess at all. We also shared a lamb bolognese amongst the four of us! It was so good and the pasta tasted al dente. For my main, I got the Ribeye that was cooked well. I got medium well, but should have gotten just a medium. For desert, we got a crème brule and a dish that was like a brownie with ice cream? Great presentation and taste. 5/5 and is a great addition to the area. I believe it is run by the same people who own Frank's Burgers? They are both connected to each other. We visited District Bistro on a Saturday late afternoon with our family and absolutely loved it. This place is a hidden gem--the ambiance is warm, inviting, and perfect for a relaxed family dinner. The kids ordered the Bistro burger and chicken tenders, and both were big hits. My husband and I started with the mussels, and they were so good we had to order extra bread just to soak up the sauce--definitely a must-order. For entrees, I had the lamb bolognese, which was rich and flavorful, and my husband ordered the ribeye steak, which he enjoyed. We also each had a glass of wine, which paired perfectly with the meal. What really stood out, though, was the service. Our waiter was knowledgeable, patient, and made the entire experience feel easy and enjoyable. District Bistro is a hidden gem! I've had them bookmarked after some fellow yelpers checked in here. I've probably driven by this place many times and never noticed them. They share a kitchen with Frank's Burgers which I've been meaning to check out as well. Recently after doing some errands I randomly stopped in on a Sunday morning. I sat at the bar and Gina greeted me. It was such a pleasure to talk to her. She told me a lot about the business and made recommendations. I ended up getting the corned beef hash which was delicious. They also serve beignets which were a nice touch. They're open every day except Mondays and there's happy hour every day at the bar! Woot. I had a nice glass of the vinho verde. I'm definitely coming back again soon. Add them to your list! read more

We had gone to AMC in Wheaton to see a movie and I wanted to go somewhere new for dinner. District Bistro was on my Yelp to-do list and was three minutes away so we decided to go. I think I had seen someone's video recommendation for it. There is metered parking out front and we easily found a space. I really liked the area-there is a burger place next door and a Pho place next to that, so more places to try! Walking in, I really liked the vibe. It was dimly lit with booths along one side, tables elsewhere, and a small bar at the back. There also is a little nook room with a sofa. We were greeted promptly and led to a booth. We had the sweetest server who gave us time to peruse the menu. It's a smallish menu but with lots of interesting choices. They have a bunch of small plates (next time I want to try the fried oysters!), grill options, and entrees. I chose the lamb bolognese. It was a plate of comfort food deliciousness! It came with wonderful garlic bread that I used to sop up every last bit of the sauce. My husband got the burger and said it was juicy and very good. He also said the fries were outstanding. I had one and definitely agreed! Crispy, salty, just perfect. They have a nice drinks menu and I chose Victory Golden Monkey, a Belgian Tripel on draft. It was so very good! Now that we know District Bistro is there, I hope to frequent it often. Everything was on point, from service, to the food and drinks, to the atmosphere. They do take reservations FYI. This place is very cozy with dark and warm lighting. Mediterranean style setting with extraordinary service. We visited for dinner on a Sunday night and were both greeted and waited on by a wonderful and charming server named Gina. She was very knowledgeable about the food and offered helpful opinion of her menu favorites. The food was delicious and well prepared. My meal was perfection-- I had the seared duck on a bed of creamy mushroom risotto. My husband however, ordered the ribeye, which was tasty, but not cooked to his asking of medium. (This was the sole reason for the lesser star rating). Instead it came out medium-well with little to no pink-center. The steaks pairings of asparagus and potatoes, however were perfect. Great little place tucked out of the way in Wheaton - small but a nice menu & great service. Over several visits everything I've tried has been great - not out of the box faire from the food delivery truck. Love their beignets! Very cute little spot near Wheaton Metro station. The decor was a little dated but cozy. There were no other patrons in there when I arrived. My co-worker and I grabbed a bite to eat. I had the bratwurst with mashed potatoes and a sauce made from heaven. the bratwurst was just okay not great. So I held back one star. We also had the calamari which was tasty!! Very beautiful interior, stylish and moody. We were sat immediately. The booths are the kind that you either have to sit on the edge to reach your plate or sit back and feel very far from the person across from you. Recommend a table. My partner told our very nice waitress that he was on strict dietary restrictions and could not have any carbs. While we'll both admit this can be an obnoxious request, this restaurant is nice enough it shouldn't have been a problem. Unfortunately, even after specific requests, he still had grains and starches in his food. He ordered a Caesar salad, no croutons- it came out with croutons buried in the mix (not on top), so he had to pick through each leaf to find them. He also ordered the seafood stew after a long conversation with our waitress about what was in it. He asked multiple times if it had rice, potatoes, etc. She said she didn't think so. He asked her to tell the cook specifically (we were the only patrons in the restaurant). She did not, and the dish came out with huge pieces of potato and smaller ones in the sauce. He couldn't eat the meal at all. The waitress blamed the cook but it was apparent by her reaction that she did not tell the cook. Unfortunately, the dietary mistakes had a big impact on our meal since my partner couldn't eat and it was very expensive. No offers to remake the food or provide a discount were made. That said, the food was made well and very good, the braised short rib in particular. The bread was fresh and melted in your mouth, I assume baked in house. The seafood stew lacked flavor and the crème brûlée had too thick a top, but otherwise the flavor profiles were very complimentary and delicious. I would recommend as long as you have zero dietary restrictions whatsoever. We were the only table for most our time there, except for one other couple who sat later. So if they can't accommodate it when it's empty, I don't believe it's safe to expect them to do so when it's busy. read more

Food could be considered gourmet by some. Not by me. Boards in restaurant show crab gumbo special and seafood special dinner. Sorry out of both...then erase the boards. We got crab beignets and fried tomatoes for appertizer. They were decent but very light. The short ribs were good; I only tasted it. The lamb Bolognese was very light in lamb. I had the seafood stew. They should have called it mussel stew. Tons of mussels, 1 shrimp, 1 scallop and a little piece of mystery fish. Also had very little stew and a small piece of bread with pesto. I was still hungry. It need something else with it. Our hostess/waitress/bartender said she could make any drink. She never heard of Mayland orange crush; said she had no crushed ice; it doesn't need it. Had no 151 rum for a zombie, no sour mix for amaretto sour. She had to google them. Never heard of ice in water. Chef is from Nicaragua which doesn't fit the menu they are delivering. She said the short ribs are how he makes it for his boys. She also said to not look at online reviews because the style changes. The restaurant was light on Customers as well. I had to hound her to get our check socwe could leave. She stopped at our table too many times early on but forgot about us since it was after 830 and they close at 9. Joined a few friends for brunch. Not a lot of patrons were in the restaurant on the day we visited (just a few). I tried looking at the pictures before visiting this place, but there was not a lot to see, for brunch selections. I got one of the salad bowls. On the brunch menu, it is listed as Shawarma Chicken Bowl, and it comes with warm rice, tomatoes, feta, cucumber, red onions, tzatziki, lemon-tahini dressing, and crispy pita. I was informed that the pita is made in-house. The pita was very large in size and very warm. It was very good, so was the chicken, the sauce and everything in the dish. The only thing I didn't mess with too much were the red onions and some of the tomatoes, but I would certainly get that dish again. The portions of everything in the dish went well together. For dessert, they mentioned just 2 options: Crème Brûlée and Chocolate Bread Pudding with Ice Cream. I went with the latter. The Chocolate Bread Pudding is a nice size, and you get one scoop of vanilla ice cream on top with the whole dessert drizzled in what looks like caramel sauce. Not too heavy and not too light, but perfectly right in between. I was able to cut the pieces of the bread pudding with my spoon and it paired well with the ice cream - very tasty. read more

Cool and relaxing decor, delicious food, fabulous music, and great service all in one place....yes, District Bistro is putting the Grand back in Grandview Avenue. A huge shout out to my good friend, Toya J., who suggested we try District Bistro. She picked a winner. Thank you, Toya! The restaurant is decorated in a beautiful Baja blue with dark woods, comfortable booths, a lovely bar area. They have this stunning room off to the right which is just gorgeous. We ordered the Bistro Burger and the croque monsieur. The burger was delicious and cooked perfectly. The one thing I would change is the cheese. They serve it with blue cheese and I would have liked a cheese with a little less funk. The bun to meat ratio was ideal and the bun tasted great. The fries were crispy and crunchy. Hot out of the frier I could not stop eating them. They come with a garlic aioli that was excellent. In reading the reviews, like any good Yelper would, I read that one reviewer said the croque monsieur was the best they ever had. I want to second that. This sandwich had the perfect ratio of cheese to meat. The cheese pull was ridiculous and the pickle created a nice crunch factor. Our waiter, who was very good recommended a wine to us that was refreshing and delightful. The smooth jazz was a nice background music. I have been following Chef Matamoros in the culinary local scene for several years, so HOW did I miss this place? It's been on Grandview Ave. in Wheaton for 2 plus years now and I just heard about it last week. I immediately booked a table. My party of 4 dined there last evening and were thrilled. The space is lovely and well appointed. It is close to abundant public parking. The booths are spacious enough for me, and that's saying a lot given my general discomfort in many restaurant booths. The service was very attentive. While the craft cocktail list is somewhat limited, they have a full bar and my Old Fashion was very good. One dinner companion started with a lovely bowl of small gnocchi which was light and delicious. I had some Buttermilk battered fried calamari which was perfectly prepared- light and good bite but not gummy- with a mild jalapeno salsa verde. Delicious. Perhaps the star of the meal was my companions gumbo, which had a beautiful brown sauce and perfectly blended choice of proteins mixing seafood and a very good andouille sausage. We all shared a nice Pinot Grigio. I am sorry but we were all too full for dessert, a mistake we won't make next time. This is truly a local gem, as cliched as that sounds. I had a chance to check out District Bistro in Wheaton. It sits in the Wheaton Triangle area. The restaurant offers a very nice upscale vibe with great eats. The staff were very knowledgeable of menu and customer favorites. In ordered food to go. I tried the mussels and shrimp 'n grits. Both dishes were flavorful. Mussels were fresh and broth was delicious. The Shrimp and grits were flavorful and filling, not too rich. Overall, great meal and I would definitely recommend dining in. read more

I've been to District Bistro twice with my husband. Didn't need a reservation either time, as the restaurant was mostly empty both times. They have comfortable old school booths or tables & chairs. Drinks, appetizers, and entrees can run up a +$100 check. It's in the Wheaton triangle, so there's metered parking. Also it's within a short walking distance from the Wheaton metro. The menu changed from our first visit, so it's good to see that they do change it up according to what's in season. I like how creative the menu gets a bit...who ever had yellow lentil hummus before?? I loved it! My chicken was a bit salty though. I got the warm grains bowl as well, which is practically an entree, but good for leftovers and to get in some more vegetables. I appreciated that the dressing came on the side. The restaurant space shares bathrooms in a connecting hallway with Frank's Burgers next door (same owner). If you live in the area, check out District Bistro! read more

There wasn't a big crowd until a little after 6 PM. The restaurants ambience is casual, and the wait staff very friendly, carefully explaining the various specials of the day. My sister ordered the salmon which was delicious, I chose the potato gnocchi and it was very filling and wonderfully flavored. It's nice to experience chef inspired dinner in downtown Wheaton! Visited for the first time this evening, a quiet Tuesday night. We were warmly welcomed and experienced gracious service throughout. I think Pedro Matamoros is an outstanding chef and I am grateful that he seems to believe in the eastern part of Montgomery County as evidenced by his previous (now closed) restaurants - Nicaro and 8407 Kitchen Bar. The eastern part of Montgomery County is often overlooked by upscale businesses and politicians both. Those were sad days when those places closed. I always wondered if we'd ever get to experience his food again. Luckily, I found out about Franks Burger Place a year ago and when they recently moved, I discovered District Bistro opened and was owned by Chef Pedro. We need more places like this in this section of the county. One look at the menu after having a great burger at Frank's, I knew I had to come back to try this place and today was the day. I was not disappointed. As mentioned, the service provided was excellent (by Pedro's son no less) and the things we had were all just excellent. The duck confit was truly outstanding. I devoured the entire dish. My friend loved his fish and chips and be both enjoyed the lentil and garbanzo bean soup. The Caesar salad was unique with mainly kale and a few slices of anchovies on top. I felt like it was different than I was anticipating (in haste I may have glossed over a description of the salad being kale) but enjoyed it nonetheless, plus it was healthier. A side note on the salad - The croutons on the salad were pretty darn good. It was hard not to eat them even if you're trying to avoid carbs. On that note about avoiding carbs, we chose not to be even tempted by looking at a dessert list. Maybe one day though I will splurge and am confident that it will be excellent, just like the entire experience I had here. I am looking forward to my next visit and it will be soon. The bartender was on point with the delish French 75 cocktail. Staff was friendly and food arrived promptly. Beets for the appetizer was shared between 2 of us, yum! We ate that before a picture could be taken. My friend had the salmon entree and I had the Mediterranean seafood stew. Beautiful presentation and also delish.. Now, what's the deal with no napkins? None of the tables were set and utensils came out after food. When I realized we didn't have napkins I asked, and was given paper napkins resembling McD. Maybe they just used the ones from fast food sister restaurant ( Franks burgers) next door. And the soup while delicious was in a very wide large bowl which allowed for it to get cold too quickly. Next time I'll ask for food to be extra hot. With just a couple adjustments, it will be perfect! I will go back soon. read more

A Place for Foodies in Silver Spring: District Bistro is the type of suburban gem that everyone talks about in the DMV. Much thought and consideration have gone into every element from the cuisine to the ambiance. For starters, the crawfish gumbo tasted just as good as any nook in the Crescent City, while the perfectly fried green tomatoes had multiple sauces to go with it. Nugget's seared sea scallops were also cooked to perfection and in the process we learned about the caperberry. Finally, Belv's roasted duck moulard was the dish of the night accompanied by so many different flavors with the cranberry chutney to the au gratin sweet potatoes. To top it all off, our server was fun and friendly. We highly recommend for date night or when a foodie friend is in from out of town, but the brunch looks fun, too. They also encouraged us to return with the kids touting their children's menu. We may not take them up on that last idea, but the lack of pretention was refreshing. read more

Food: I enjoyed the crab chowder soup and the lobster coquettes. The calamari had good flavor but it had a strange aftertaste that made it inedible. Also the fried coating was falling off the calamari so it made it difficult to dip it in the sauce without all the pieces coming off. My partner got the ribeye steak and he enjoyed it. However, the lamb bolognese tasted like Chef Boyardee, I left half of the food on the plate and left feeling unsatisfied. Service: the service was great. We were easily seated and given enough time to browse the menu. They first brought out our appetizers and then the entree which is much appreciated. Ambiance felt lacking. 5/10. Definitely not the hip scene and some of the poor construction details were noticeable. Our table was wonky to the point of distraction. I do appreciate the comfortable booths, nice finishes and the plants at each table. Not sure if I will go back to be honest. I have been here twice and really enjoyed the food both times. I got take-out for my father's birthday the first time and the seared sea scallops were a winner, along with the clam chowder. We liked it so much we came back for brunch on the weekend and were delighted by the seasonal specials: a fried tomato and pimento cheese appetizer and an heirloom tomato salad. The fried chicken and waffles was delicious. They have a nice selection of beers on tap as well as a good wine selection and thoughtful cocktail list. Ambience is classy without looking pretentious. There is a cute little nook with a couch and a chessboard where I could imagine sipping a drink. The server was attentive and offered to bring the kids' food out first, which was appreciated. I had a delicious lunch here today! I ordered the oyster po' boy sandwich and my guest had the Cubana sandwich. Both of us were completely satisfied! The waiter was friendly and attentive. It's a very comfortable space I'd call elegantly casual. Very clean. The prices are quite fair. There is plenty of parking in the area, which is a bonus. This is definitely a must go to, in Wheaton.
