This is a truly one of a kind place in Kensington, Maryland . This place is a bar restaurant. It has a parking area that needs repaving badly. As you enter there's two entry points front and back door . When you enter you see a dining area with some acade games . It has a bar in back of the store on the right. But near the front door ut has a gas fireplace to keep the place warm. Near the barista area where theybserve all sorts of drinks the have a concealed kitchen area where they perform their magic to make your best foods you could ever want or You cant find anywhere else . They have a great menu there . They have an ATM machine too . This place every Monday and thursday nighrs gave Karaoke nights . I wish they could have it on weekends too . I love having pizzas there , The mean tater tots burgers and more . I think they should have discounts t those who are long term patrons to keep them coming back for more . I think they could have a more selective desert menu for kids and adults . Plus they have 12 to 14 HGTVS . I tried applying fir this place to try my luck but no response as of yet . I wanted the job there because want to build bridges between all woirld of every walk of life that comes there . I love customer interactions as a host and Food Runner . I am flexible on all hours . I went with the chicken Caesar wrap and the fries as a side here. This place is in a prime location at the intersection of university and Connecticut and has good weekly deals. I wasn't that in love with my meal this time as that is what brings my score down. The service at my last visit also wasn't the best as none of my tables waters were refilled, but they are usually great on this. The atmosphere of this place is one of its high notes - always a lively place with its a fair share of regulars. Will be returning here with most likely a higher review soon. read more

My Experience at Stella Point Grille -- Kensington, Maryland I am sharing this because I believe customers should be able to dine at a restaurant without being confronted or embarrassed over a discretionary tip. I visited Stella Point Grille, ordered my meal, and paid my bill in full. At the time, I did not have the additional money available to leave a tip. After paying, I remained seated for approximately 30 minutes while waiting for my guest to arrive. When my guest arrived, I waved to a manager and asked if my guest could have some water. Instead of simply responding to that request, the manager confronted me about not tipping my waiter. He told me that because I did not leave a tip, he could refuse me service, and stated that this was how "his people make a living." I told him there was nothing to argue about and that I had not seen anything indicating that a gratuity was mandatory. I understand and respect that restaurant employees rely heavily on tips. However, I do not believe a customer who has paid their bill in full should be confronted, shamed, or threatened with refusal of service because they were unable to leave an additional gratuity. What made the experience particularly disappointing was that this interaction came from management. Managers are supposed to set the standard for professionalism and customer service. I am sharing my personal experience so other customers can make their own informed decisions. I have also requested that Stella Point Grille ownership review what occurred and clarify whether refusing further service because a customer did not leave a discretionary tip is actually restaurant policy. This experience left me feeling embarrassed, disrespected, and unwelcome. Regardless of someone's financial circumstances, customers deserve to be treated with dignity. We came to sit at the bar for brunch and to watch football. The staff was very friendly. They made sure everyone was able to see the teams they came to watch since there were 4 games on at once. The service was quick. The food was surprisingly good. I'm very picky about my steak and actually ended up ordering a second one. The mimosas were reasonably priced. Introduction/August 2023 visit: Been here 3 times and every time, I've been impressed. My friend lives close to here and invited me to BINGO night on Wednesday nights. He had been inviting me for months prior to this, but I don't live that close to Kensington. I genuinely wanted to try this BINGO night at some point and finally obliged on August 30, 2023. Unfortunately, I didn't win, but I did enjoy a great Philly Cheesesteak per my friend's recommendation with also delicious fries. Server was nice & attentive. October 2023 visit: Since I enjoyed BINGO & the atmosphere as well as my friend's company on August 30, I visited again 5 weeks later for BINGO again on Wednesday, October 4 as I had a hike Meetup in the Kemp Mill area. Incidentally, the hike was more than I bargained for, which I didn't mind as I needed the exercise, but still had a long walk back to my car, so I texted my friend saying I'd be getting there maybe a bit after the BINGO start and to grab me BINGO sheets. Once again great service, and the burger was great too. And further, I won BINGO and got some gift cards for a future visit. Between October 2023 & February 2025: Incidentally, there was discussion of me coming back to use my gift cards. Then, in February 2024, my girlfriend & I got together. Throughout the Spring & beyond, I said one of these Wednesdays we can go over Kensington, meet my friend, & use my gift cards. She finally met my friend on a Saturday in January 2025 for an advanced movie screening we went to. Two Saturdays later on February 8, 2025 I had my birthday party. Originally, my birthday party was going to be in Columbia, roughly half the distance than to Kensington. But I found out about another birthday party at another friend's house, which lives about 6 minutes away. So, around January 26 I decided to move my birthday party from Columbia to BabyKat Brewing in Kensington to accommodate for people going to my friend's party later on since I figured some won't go to Columbia & then to go to the Wheaton area for my friend's after and just do my friend's party. My friend who arrived at BabyKat early said it was packed inside there. I didn't think it would be that hectic at 3 PM. BabyKat has a nice outdoor area, but we couldn't help it was very cold, around 33 F with some mix of rain & freezing rain at times or at least cloudy with some wind. I told him we will be there in 10 minutes to assess the situation ourselves. We knew we had to pivot as we weren't going to want to be out in the cold. My friend suggested Stella, which would've been my backup option. February 8, 2025 visit: My friend called Stella and said if there was room for all of us, which they should would work. Stella was very accommodating for my birthday party saying they'd make it work, and they had a long table for us. Although this is what I envisioned for my birthday. I had imagined people would stand around and separate tables where people could mingle, but it was fine. A lot of the folks ate shortly after getting there. I had 2 whiskeys; they have a good variety of drinks, including about 6 different whiskeys. We ate in the 5 PM hour. I get the Philly cheesesteak & g/f got the burger. We both very much enjoyed our food. The staff was very nice and accommodating getting food/drinks to all of us at the various times we put in orders. Unfortunately, I didn't have the gift cards on me as I hadn't planned on Stella, more of an unlikely plan B scenario. I told my g/f (like in Spring 2024), we need to go back in Spring 2025 for BINGO one of these Wednesdays to use my gift cards when my regular friend is there. I look forward to more visits in the future and now more motivated to go after my successful birthday party here. read more

Update: Noted UFC is political propaganda. Thought this was a Sports Bar not a RNC or DNC. I come to Stella Point quite a bit, and the food is always good. Tonight, though, I had a disappointing experience. I came in to get some beers, food, and watch UFC 250. We were told they would not be showing the fight because the owner decided not to play it. That was disappointing, but we were still planning to stay and eat. When I ordered a bucket of beers, the server asked if we had shown our IDs to the bouncer. I said yes. She later came back and said the bouncer told her our IDs were not valid, even though I am 22 years old and have a valid Maryland ID. The bouncer had already checked our IDs when we walked in and told us we were good. The food is always good, and I've had plenty of good experiences here before, but the confusion and lack of communication made for a frustrating experience this time. read more

My appointment across the street finished early, so based on Yelp reviews, I gave it a try. The oddly shaped space is due to the location in the V created by the split between Connecticut Avenue and University Boulevard. That's being worked on, construction going on out back. If I recall, there was once a pretty good Chinese restaurant there. I ordered a burger, and it was very good. Some places will throw any substance that can legally be called ground beef on the griddle, but breed of cattle and ratio of cuts matters a lot. Cooked perfectly, a little char outside, tender inside. Btw, build your own choice of toppings. Tots were also legit - no seasoning required. And yes, they're an optional accompaniment, as well as fries or slaw. The atmosphere is unapologetically sports/dive bar, and I'm sure they'd roll their eyes if you called in a gastropub. Service is on point. When I had to make it to-go because my Uber driver texted he was early, no problem. I never expected a grab and go to be this good. Five stars are not something I give easily, but they nailed everything. I was delighted, and plan to return. read more

Monday night is a bit of a restaurant desert in Kensington, MD, but we were happy to find Stella Point open. We loved the cozy brick interior and gas fireplace, and the relaxed Cheers-like vibe. Monday night is also $10 burger night - for any burger on the menu. At 30% off, it was a no-brainer for us. The burger comes with a choice of fries or coleslaw, each of them in ample quantities (no dixie-cup coleslaw here!). The craft beer is also pleasing. For those who want healthier choices, interesting dinner salads are on the menu too - one in our party went that route and was happy. A great choice for a casual evening with friends. It's an absolute shame how late I was discovering Quincy's South... as in, I went for the first time towards the latter half of last year. I knew there were other locations, but from where I am they would take an extra 15+ minutes to get to. So when QS closed down, I was pretty sad. But now, out of nowhere, enter Stella Point! Ownership from Quincy's exists here, and it's in Kensington, a more accessible town for me! Literally within hours of hearing about it, I pulled up at night... the bar is nowhere as big as Quincy's South's, though I hear there are plans to change that. Most of the tables in my line of view were full, and I grabbed the last seat at the bar. I was observing a lot of the conversations going on, and I saw how excited the staff were and the happy conversations they were having with the patrons. Only being the second day of opening, it's obvious that the already existing Quincy's family made their way to this new location and the positive vibes are all around. If that continues, this place will do just as well as the rest. I had already eaten, but I did want to grab a drink, so I got a Gin Club... $7! Off of happy hour, I'm fully content with that -- it was good too! :) So I don't know when happy hour or any of the other events I remember are coming... I do know Trivia Tuesdays are locked in starting August 1, so that's something to look forward to! I look forward to trying the food in the near future too, though from what I could overhear, it's as good, if not better, than Quincy's. Oh, parking at Quincy's South could be a little tricky... there is a dedicated parking lot for Stella Point, but it isn't that big. I have come here on several occasions for their $10 Monday night burger specials. The french fries have always been 5 star-well seasoned and delicious. The burgers have been somewhat hit or miss. I usually order mine medium well and sometimes this means very well done and sometimes it can be almost raw. The toppings are usually plentiful so that helps make up for some of the inconsistency. The wait staff is attentive and I appreciate that. read more

I ordered a dry martini on the rocks with a twist made with Beefeater gin. Server returned to say they did not have Beefeater. He showed what they do have. I chose Bombay. When the bill came there was an additional $3.99 charge for that gin brand. A gin surcharge. The server never said that my choice would cost me $3.99 more in addition to the $8.99 for my cocktail. This place is full of TVs (it is a sports bar), so if you think it's gonna rot you or someone else's mind LEAVE! It is a sports bar after all, but if you're normal and don't think looking at a game while eating shall liquify the components of one's cranium it's a great place with rockin food! I was looking for something light to eat but stumbled across this grill. I ordered to-go. I ordered two sandwiches because I could not choose between the two. I ordered the Big Sur and the BLT. On The Big Sur, a lightly fried patty, with bacon and cheddar, covered by lettuce, tomato, a spicy avacado spread, on a ciabatta roll. The hand cut fries are fantastic. Ok - I am trying to be nice and helpful, but the other day I experienced someone telling a patron that "the customer is not always right" and first I thought it was just two people chatting and to my shock it was one of the owners taking constructive criticism and literally bidding farewell to a customer. Wow! Again my experience for the third and final time is this. The food is less than average and in todays world that does not work anymore. Diners demand a good product that is better than they can make - well - I would say that anything Stella makes can be made easier and more tasty at home because we care about what we eat unlike the cook / chef at Stella. The ambience is unfinished and has a confused vibe - something tells me the draw is the bar crowd, but even that is waning - I believe the neighborhood would embrace these guys, but the food is sub-par and not family friendly which is what the neighborhood is looking for. Humility is the key to business success and growth and based on my recent experience with someone invested in the success of the business...embracing humility is critical for success - my way high way is prehistoric thinking and a restaurant is a team sport and a collective of coordinated same minded people focused on success and my experience with loitering servers and customers looking for attention is not part of the success doctrine. Let me first say that Kensington NEEDED Stella Point! It is a very welcome spot in the hood. Outside of good ole Savannah's from back in the day, Frankly pizza and a few fast/casual spots- there really wasn't much in terms of restaurants or places to sit down for a meal or bar to have a cocktail at. I have been a handful of times and it's exactly what it's supposed to be. The food is consistent and tasty. They're drinks are traditional and cold. I WISH they had a better wine selection AND that they sold bottles, but I understand it's not supposed to be a fine dining experience! It's just nice if you go with a few girlfriends to be able to order a bottle... I LOVED their blackberry habenero sauce for the wings or tenders, which are both crispy and cooked to perfection. Nobody wants a soggy wing and theirs are just perfect. The crab dip is also something that is exactly what you expect- cream cheesy goodness with old bay and chunks of crab. My only thing is their service seems a little discombobulated. Not BAD, just not efficient. I'm not sure if they do sections or they just kinda walk around and see who needs something. We weren't sure who our server was as each time it was a different person. It worked okay- but just weird that someone would drop drinks off and they'd be sitting full in front of us as someone else comes to take our drink order. Whatever works I guess. Upon arriving, we noticed there was tons of parking in the shopping center. There appears to be 2 entrances to the building. We arrived and the staff here were friendly. Also, there were tons of tables around. For this area, there's not much places to go for watching sports. This place has tons of tvs so you can watch multiple events. At the kids event, they were serving pizza, chicken tenders, fries. The kids enjoyed the food here and there was tons of space to move around. The manager / owner there was very polite and the customers appear to be happy while there. Although we didn't get to try their drinks / regular food items, I did see some customers trying them and they appeared to enjoy it. I'll definitely come back here to try their regular menu. The restaurant is a place where people can socialize and eat. So expect there to be some noise level, however it's not unbearable. Worth giving this place a try if you are in the area. read more

This is a newer spot we really enjoyed that took over an iconic Chinese restaurant that was open here for decades. This new place is an American sports bar with multiple large screens televisions on every wall. Plenty of seating some a bit too close when it's packed and a nice size bar area. The food is very good and the service improves more and more with every visit. We enjoyed all the dishes we ordered so far. I recommend the pesto linguine to die for-- and steak bites (appetizer), which were both delicious. My hubby enjoyed the crabcake with a generous amount of crabmeat in the sandwich. Various sides are an option, but the tater tots were crisp and hot. The only thing I didn't like was the Chilly Julep mocktail. This was a personal preference to me the coffee brew overpowered all the other ingredients, but a great drink if you like cold brew coffee. I strongly recommend the Ginger sunrise mocktail especially if you enjoy Ginger beer/flavor. We have been missing China Gourmet and have been so looking forward to the opening of Stella Point Grille. We were particularly happy when we found out that the owner's of Quincy's South were partners. I've gotten reluctant to review businesses based on my first experience because sometimes a great first time results in a disappointing second time. But we were so curious we decided to go for lunch on their second day open. The space itself is very open, lots of tables, tvs, a beautiful brick wall, and yay, they kept the fireplace. Wish there were some booths but that's okay. The small bar in the back of the restaurant is going to be replaced by a large wrap-around bar in the main dining room. We loved the atmosphere. Everyone seemed to be happy to be back at work. Our servers Ryan and Alex were so engaging and it was so, so nice to see a familiar face from China Gourmet, Pastore there. As you might expect on the second day, and apparently after a very successful opening day, there were some glitches. We ordered the wings which we remembered from Quincy's. The second thing we ordered was out of stock. The beer Rich ordered wasn't cold yet so he decided to stick with water since he had an appointment later anyway. And my first drink request wasn't available. I was able to find a drink I was happy with and our second choice of an entree, a Greek salad, was delicious with lettuce, cucumbers, tomatoes, olives and a really good dressing. The restaurant is a little noisy but not so bad I couldn't hear the music which was exactly my style, think Fleetwood Mac, etc. Plus the staff was so energetic, so upbeat the small problems were not a big deal and were easily resolved. 2nd delivery. Inedible taco meat filling masquerading as chili. Nothing else in the chili & the "sauce" in the bottom of the container was oil! Ten Chicken wings very fatty skin, but on the big side. I got them plain. Ugh! Ate the two flats. Rest were drumettes. Potato soup is warm, tasty & plain old good - on the thick side with chunks of cooked potatoes throughout. I liked it best. Prices are good compared to other vendors & it's great that this place stays open late. I ordered crab dip before. Was lovely but way too salty for my tastes but then my palate usually disdains salty fare. The chili was truly unacceptable in every way though & the hub is a chili aficionado. If he scowls after one bite, it's not only not good chili, it's unpalatable chili. Well, late at night fare may be the dregs from the evening, so maybe that accounts for it.
