Let's start by being real... this visit started off rocky and took a bit of time to shape up. And it only shaped up after one amazing server--Gabriel-- stepped in to make it better. He's a five star for sure, unfortunately Matchbox all up wasn't this time. Super crowded for a Sunday at 1 pm! Took self seat spots in bar area, no one stopped by for 15-30 min. Then when two did and said they would be back, ended up not making it back. We were ready to walk when Gabriel stopped by after seeing we hadn't been served at all. He helped get us taken care of--even moved us to a better table after one opened, ultimately taking over our table. When our food took forever, he stayed on top of it and worked with the manager to make it right on our check. (It's clear the new brunch buffet needs some settling into.) So thankful for his help! Matchbox, you have a great server providing amazing customer service who doesn't get ruffled in chaos! Gabriel will keep us coming back though for a better experience next time. read more

Love Matchbox. They always have great food and great service! My favorites are the matchbox chicken pesto pizza and the calamari. Twice a month they have Latin nights, where they play a variety of Spanish music. the food is spectacular. My husband and I love this place. 10/10 recommend. read more

Came here on a Thursday evening after going to the One Loudon Carnival. Not busy at all and got a table right away. The server was so attentive and made sure our orders were in exactly as we ordered them. He even checked on my daughter's meal when it didn't come out at the same time and let us know that they had remade the fries because they were too burnt the first time. Ambiance was lively in the restaurant with constant chatter. When our food did come out, everything was cooked as we ordered. Salmon salad was fresh and light. Mini burgers were not over cooked and had the added cheese we ordered. Bathrooms were really clean which is something apparently they pride themselves on. Would definitely come back again. read more

Went to dinner with the family. We shared several apps. The crab and avocado tower was my favorite. The mango salsa in it was a fun touch. The mini burgers were good. The chicken pesto pizza had a crust that wasn't too doughy nor too thin. The pesto wasn't overwhelming and hit the spot. The leftover pizza made for a great cold pizza breakfast the next morning. read more

Sunday funday lead us to Matchbox and thankfully so. We opted for outdoor seating to enjoy the weather and street entertainment. We were seated promptly, and greeted by our server. It took a minute to sort through the various options, but our server assured us the crab cake sandwich and brick oven pizzas were the way to go. She was right! The crab cake sandwich was all crab and no filler, perfectly situated on a toasted brioche bun, served with a side of French fries seasoned to perfection. The Fire Smoke pizza was delish! The ingredients were fresh and the cheese was cheesin. Needless to say it was half gone before my phone got a taste Yelpers will be happy to know they offer a $10 off brunch coupon for check-ins. I'm all for a good meal and a deal so we'll definitely be back. read more

Great food and great service ! Thank you Ms Laura !! I had the shrimp and crab pasta. So good

Family friendly, lots of seating. The bread pudding was the star of the show for sure. The tuna salad and pizza were also good. I do not recommend the crab tower, it was rather bland. The server was very friendly but took awhile to get to our table. read more

We stopped going to Matchbox a couple years ago because of poor service and the food quality had gone down. Today we decided to try again, we were seated and after 5 minutes no one came over take our order. A family was seated after us and almost immediately someone came over to take their order. We will never go to Matchbox again!!!!! read more

Quick summary: Food - 4 stars Value - 3 stars Atmosphere - 2 stars Service - 2 stars We came here after flying home from Europe, so admittedly we were a bit jet-lagged and tired. So...that's my one caveat to this review. The hostess seemed new but was nice, and she got us seated quickly. We then waited for a bit over 10 minutes for a waiter before I asked the hostess to find her. Which, she did, and was very apologetic. This is despite having had menus and we're all looking up, clearly ready to order. Another three minutes and our waiter came. She was pleasant enough and took our order. My wife had baked chicken (moist and good, nothing spectacular, skimpy sides}, my son a cheese pizza (very basic soft-crust pizza), my daughter a steak (cooked well despite being thin, skimpy sides), and I had the fish and chips (fried with fresh oil, tasty, pretty basic). We were almost done with our meal (eating slowly) before our waiter checked on us. This was despite multiple empty glasses and two of us wanting to order a refill and another beer. Ordered, and the beer came out almost ten minutes later, after we were finished eating. So, food was the saving grace here. It all tasted fine, was hot, and everyone's order arrived at the same time. The value was mixed, only because a rib-eye that clocks in at less than 8 ounces, a half-cup of mashed potatoes and four asparagus spears shouldn't cost almost $40 in a casual restaurant. It was enough for a small, 11-year-old girl. A grownup would need to order appetizers or more food. Atmosphere was that of a typical restaurant. It screamed "this is a place to eat, not sit and socialize". So, if it's designed to push food...the food needs to be fast and good. However, we're parents in our early 50s, so we're not looking for a Dave and Busters/Chuck E. Cheese environment. HOWEVER, the one picture I'm including is one of the long table next to us, which had not been bussed after the last party left, and was quickly becoming the Island of Misfit Dishes. I looked around, and there were several other tables that had the remnants of long-passed diners. The service. Again, we were tired after 13 hours of travel. However, we had already managed our own expectations based on that, so initial contact should be made within five minutes. A greeting would be fine. A drink order would be phenomenal. I watched waiters, bussers, hosts, and I think a manager delivering food. It may have been an efficiency problem (that's on the staff) or a staffing problem (that's on the manager). However, most of the tables in our area, better than 2/3, were empty. If the place had been slammed, I could see all of those times being extended by at least double (20 minutes for initial contact, 30 for drinks, 60 for food). But, it's in a busy shopping area, so maybe overflow from surrounding restaurants can keep it afloat. Finally, upon leaving, there was no hostess at the stand to say thanks for goodbye. Primacy and recency: you remember the first thing you experience, and the last. It starts and ends with the host, or first contact with your waiter. First and last impressions are lasting. Because of this, it reminded me of an upscale military dining facility. Get in, eat your food, leave. Would I go back? No, because it's out of the way, and it was a stop of convenience. If I were in the area? Maybe, but it would be long after my memory of this experience had faded, or another location helped to redeem this visit. Other diners seemed happy, so maybe we were just giving off a crabby vibe. Cheers! read more

First and foremost; your guises food never fail to amuse me. Not to mention the wonderful server Kevin Who took care of Thursday night. My family of 6 decided to dine to celebrate my sons birthday and our server was spectacular. Thank you Kevin. read more

The food was great and the drinks were good. We met friends for dinner and service was pretty quick and polite. We had pizza (spicy meatball) and simple salads and were happy with the meals. I'd like to come back and try more items, they had other delicious sounding pizzas and meal options. read more

Excellent food, customer service, and atmosphere. Went for brunch on a Saturday, they did not disappoint. I do have to say, the portions are soooo large. We probably should have ordered one brunch + drinks and one drinks only, then split the food, as we each took home over half our appetizer and main dish. Seriously, the large meatball appetizer is softball+ sized and can easily be its own entree. Very yummy foods: besides the meatball, we enjoyed the artichoke and spinach dip, and the crab cake poached eggs with roasted potatoes. All very, very good. Our server was polite, fast, very familiar with the menu, describing dishes, answering questions, etc. delivery was quick and well timed. Excellent place to eat. Definitely shall return for more! read more

Of the many yummy things on the menu my favorite is the fried chicken cobb salad! The service is typically outstanding!

Ewww. After seeing their weekend buffet on TikTok and Facebook, we were really looking forward to going. First problem, the menu on their website has not been updated to match the current buffet menu and most of the items we went for were no longer available. Second, we decided to go a la carte and the only item my daughter wanted was the biscuits, the buffet is open until 5 pm but at 2 pm they were out. Third and the reason for one star and why we won't be back, when we unwrapped the utensils from the napkins, mine had food on the fork handle and my daughterknife was covered in food from the tip to the handle on both sides. So not only are they not properly cleaning their silverware, but someone wrapped clearly filthy silverware in napkins and placed them on the table. Unsanitary and disgusting. read more

The food is very consistent! Service is average a restaurant! The server might not have been having a good day when we went, but overall this experience was enjoyable! The ambience is absolutely great! read more

Matchbox has been a favorite of mine since their days in Chinatown, DC (2009-2020 or so)... This location is very clean, sits right on the corner, plenty of parking, and we always get seated really quickly. The staff is always super friendly and very helpful. The ambiance is great for a date night and even comfortable enough for a family outing with the children. The food seems to get better and better every year. Great options and unique flavors. Highly recommend. read more

I am definitely a brunch snob, so I take my brunches v seriously. I saw all of the good rating and thought it was a must to try. The service was good, fairly quick and the restaurant has a nice barn like feeling with a fireplace in the back, which I liked. On the other hand.. I wasnt v impressed w/ the food overall. It was underwhelming. We ordered the crab cake Benedict, all American breakfast, buffalo wings and meatball... nothing that I would really rant & rave about. There were some good selections (the meatball and French toast), but everything else was just OK. If you're in the area and not sure where to eat, go here. If you're familiar with brunch places in NOVA then I'd suggest going somewhere else. I will say I didn't dislike this place - it just wasn't for me. I would come back though to try their dinner as it looked like a big crowd in the evening ... read more

Ordered take out pizza. Take out process seemed confusing for the staff as nobody knew how to accept payment. Pizza OK only. Why can't places figure out how to make a pizza with solid crust bottom. Always under cooked. Will skip in future read more

As someone who has celiac disease, I find this restaurant to be outstanding! Especially for brunch, but it does get very busy. I love how they changed the menus based on the season. Great service from the bartenders Tifany and Jacob! They made us great cocktails and recommended good food! will come back!

The food was great; we have no complaints. What made it challenging to comprehend is how management was unaware of the excessive heat emanating in the two "boxes" on the second floor, making it difficult to enjoy our dinner. One member of our party experienced significant discomfort due to the heat. It is imperative that they rectify this issue by installing a suitable air conditioning system upstairs. Till then we will be going somewhere with working AC. read more

my server her name was Daniely she did a very good service and it was very good. The best server in the house.

The restaurant itself is gorgeous with an open kitchen. I ordered the chicken and avocado sandwich and it was pretty good, did not wow me. The spinach dip was absolutely amazing, however. The main issue I had with my experience was the service. We had to ask our server for napkins, silverware, and water. When we wanted to pay, it was very frustrating trying to get his attention so we could leave. Every step of the process throughout the meal we were having to flag the waiter down. read more

I've been a sever here for 3 years now, and I loved it here! .... At first. My experience here in this establishment ( mostly talking about the ashburn location) has been horrible, least professional and very petty work place. I have had a lot of managers come and go but the biggest problem I have is that our managers Silvia Hernandez and Vivian Gonzalez have been THE WORST MANAGERS I HAVE EVER HAD IN MY LIFE. The bartenders and servers that have worked there longer then I have now hate it and it's because of them, And how they treat us as staff. They have tried to do illegal things behind our backs and once we tell HR (Human Resources ) they would retaliate by making our section smaller or talking us out of BEO's aka private event parties aka taking our money from us. We get payed off tips . We only get payed $2.50 an hour, and they would be rude and petty and Silvia has even admitted that she has been petty to us. When a few of us send in a letter to HR Silvia founds out ( and it's supposed to be confidential) she treated us differently and took hours away from us. ( taking our money ways from us) and said they were "Match box hours " which makes no sense Silvia . Ever since they both came here, all of the employees walk on eggshells and hate their lives here. We just work here because we need the money. Actually everyone would say we were better before they both even came here. They are honestly putting Thomson hospitality down the drain and it's really upsetting. And Mr. Vivian Last time I checked respect is earned and you never got that from me because you came in this restaurant to strong demanding respect and the world doesn't work that way. She need to fine her own identity in here and stop following Silvia around like a puppy. It would be a lot better for her, I'm one of the only people who would say something because My comments are for free. And I'm tired and I will speak on behalf of all of there severs and bartenders who have been working there for as long as I have that we are done being treated like shit and we as Match box staff deserve so much better then what we are getting. I don't respect any of them as managers... because that entitlement got into their head, and they are not good leaders and show no leadership.I feel more comfortable putting everything here so people know. They seem sweet and smiles to your face and treat us like shit if you're not a YES man. And I didn't fit that. And I definitely don't wanna work at a place shitty as this one.. BTW they have roaches in the bathrooms read more

I came here in the morning @10:00am with my family and I got a water and there was cloudy stuff in the water. Eventually I asked for a plastic cup they only had kid size cups. And the seats were pretty dirty. Left over Crumbs on clean plates. I also ordered chicken & waffles. read more

And I'm done with matchbox. I decided to try again today as it was near where I needed to be for an event, and I was in the mood for brunch. After taking way too long to find a parking space, I went to the restaurant. And the hostess says "do you know that we're only doing brunch today, and it's all you can eat for $45."!! Well, I'm by myself and had no intention of eating a lot or pay $45 + tip for a meal. So I left very disappointed, especially since I had to be somewhere else in an hour. I know I'm not the only customer who walked away, and I felt badly for the hostess. I don't know why a restaurant would restrict their customers to only one dining/cost option. read more

Marina was amazing!! Such a lovely dining experience - we really enjoyed the food, serving, and ambiance!

Matchbox in One Loudoun always hits the spot. Placed in a cute and social meetup spot, Matchbox is in the perfect location for a date or quality time with friends and family. All their pies are super light yet crispy. Each is packed with flavor and I highly recommend trying any one of their specialty pies. We ordered the Fire + Smoke, Garden Veggie, and one create your own. The Fire + Smoke was my favorite of them all made up of a chipotle purée, roasted garlic, onions, red peppers, smoked gouda, basil, and a zesty tomato sauce. The pie was cooked till well done with a light char. The Garden Veggies was a close second made up of a zesty tomato sauce, mozzarella, a medley of roasted veggies, herbs, and cilantro jalapeño oil. The food is on the pricier side, ESPECIALLY for pizza. So that's just one thing to keep in mind! read more

The food was great. We had Eugene who was a great server and offered some good recommendations!

It's been a few years since I have been here and I was surprised how lacking they are of patronage. Granted there are many new restaurants at One Loudoun now but Matchbox is still a nice place to hang out with friends and family dinners. I came looking for the crab and avocado and it wasn't on the menu. The chef Mario came out to explain to me that they no longer carry it due to supply issues. I thought that was really nice of him. My friends and I ordered several appetizers and drinks and we enjoyed them all. The staff were very professional as well. If you are at One Loudoun, give Matchbox a visit! read more

A couple of us came here for a last minute snack after an evening of drinking... We got a large pizza and their wings. The winds were fat and tasty! The pizza was just OK, nothing special. It didn't have the char, nor "fire" flavor I'm used to from Matchbox. Service was rushed and on the bad side as the bartender was too worried about closing down and other guests than he was about taking care of us. The restaurant is pretty big... I wonder how busy/packed they get anymore. The menu is great and they used to be amazing, but ever since expanding so rapidly about 8 years ago, they couldn't manage service properly and they lost lots of business, including mine as I haven't been to a Matchbox in about 5 years. Hopefully they can right the ship and improve because I love the concept, just not the mixed bag of service and execution when I visit. read more

Mediocre pizza. Crust was basic. Cheese lacked flavor and salt. Caesar salad was sad and had that weird artificial "buttermilk" salad dressings flavor. Artichoke dip was pretty good... sadly had mild food poisoning within the next hour after dinner. Hospitality was angry. Waiter kind of demanded we find a place for the pizza stands, and then just huffed and hung them off the edge of the table. Water never refilled. It is a big restaurant though. Suppose if you need a mostly empty place to support a big group its a choice you could make. read more

Great experience eating at the outdoor bar. Service, food quality, and setting were perfect for the night.

Fried fish and crab cake are sooo good and fresh, doesn't have the sea flavor if you know what I mean. The pizza is always good every time we come. And their Caesar salad is great as well. It's very laid back atmosphere and family friendly. The restrooms are always clean too. Service is fast as well. Def one of my fave places to come. read more

I attended a bridal shower at Matchbox and the food, service, ambiance was excellent. I cannot say enough about the staff. They were so kind and attentive. The food was fantastic. Everyone was raving about the food, which included hamburger sliders, spinach and artichoke dip, crab appetizer, all types of pizza, and the best warm doughnuts that you have ever eaten. I highly recommend Matchbox for events or just a meal. Many thanks to Matchbox for making the bridal shower extra special. read more
