I had been dying to give this place a try! Tonight was the night. I grabbed dinner with my friend and we were seated quickly outside on the patio. Each of our meals came with a salad, as well as bread and oil. I had the chicken piccata for dinner and the lemon sorbet for dessert. Both were super tasty. We had dinner there 10/10/24. My wife had gluten free fettuccine with meat sauce. She enjoyed the sauce, it was very flavorful. Pasta was cooked perfectly. I had the Spaghetti with meatballs. Pasta was cooked perfectly. Sauce was very tasty. There were 3 meatballs on the plate. The meatballs were very tasty but something was different. It's hard to explain. Last time I was there, I was "wowed" by the meatballs. I wish I could say what was different. The restaurant was not busy. We arrived around 5 PM and we're seated immediately. It took 15 minutes for a server to take our drink order. We were given water immediately and then we waited. We almost got up and left. The server did not come by while we were eating to ask if we needed anything. The server finally came by when she saw we were finished eating. We went here after landing in Virginia, checking into our hotel, and desperately needing food. We wanted something close by and well-rated, and Il Cappero fit the bill. We were seated immediately on a Friday evening around 5pm, and we ordered a glass of wine each, plus an entree. My husband ordered lobster ravioli, and I ordered penne vodka. Both meals were delicious; the lobster ravioli was amazing (but came with shrimp, which we think wasn't a necessary addition), and my penne vodka had the most delicious pancetta pieces. They also came with a good house salad that both my husband and I said tasted way better than we anticipated (he gives nod to the blue cheese dressing). Massive shout-out to our waiter whose name we think is Jared (we went yesterday and both my husband and I are debating his name in hindsight), who was a delight. We recommend this restaurant! Thanks to Yelp friend, Eddie B., who reviewed this restaurant and gave a great review. We never would have known it existed. Finally, we got here on a Sunday around 4:30 p.m. We were greeted and seated immediately. One thing we noticed---the place was cold. That was due to the dreary weather we were having that day. Our server was prompt in getting to us. We had looked at the menu online and we both knew what we wanted. To drink, we both got ginger ale. For our starter, we got "Insalata Caprese" which consists of: "slices of ripe tomatoes and fresh mozzarella drizzled with olive oil and fresh basil, balsamic glaze". We enjoyed this as the olive oil and balsamic glaze gave it great flavor. The tomatoes weren't very ripe but we know it's not the season for very ripe ones. I suspect that in the summer, the tomatoes would be better. My husband got for his entree "Sausage and peppers" which consists of: "onions, green peppers, mushrooms and sausages in our marinara sauce over spaghetti". He said that the spaghetti was angel hair and it was served hot as were the other ingredients. Also, he did notice a stray piece of yellow pepper in the sauce. I chose for my entree "chicken piccata" which consists of: "sauteed chicken breast, olive oil with capers, lemon white wine sauce and spaghetti". I was very impressed with the cook on the chicken as it was tender and moist. This dish comes with two pieces of chicken. For me, one piece would have been enough. The capers were large which I enjoyed as I like capers. When I felt full, my husband ate some of my chicken and agreed that it was well prepared. Dinner comes with a bread basket. A runner brought us some bread, then our server brought us another bread basket. Also, we ended up with 2 small plates with olive oil for dipping the bread. Their bread is not a typical Italian bread. Some reviewers say it's ciabatta while others say it's pizza crust. We say we're not sure. The place got busier as our meal progressed. The decor is attractive in its simplicity. The background music was music from the "rat pack" --- In other words singers like Sinatra and Dean Martin. Before the tip, dinner was $66 + change. My friend and I went here for dinner and it was really nice! We sat outside on the patio and enjoyed the lovely weather. After a certain time they turned on some outside lighting which was a nice touch. Our waitress was really helpful telling us what she enjoyed from the restaurant and answering any questions we had. The service was great: I was greeted at the door, menu given to me as soon as a I sat down, and my drink order taken. I sat at the bar, and the lady that was serving behind the bar was fantastic. She didn't hover and was very personable. The restaurant wasn't too busy, but it did start picking up for dinner. There is a dining area with lots of tables as well as booths. They also have covered outdoor seating for when the weather is nicer. It wasn't too loud in there, but I think that's because it wasn't packed when I first got there. I ordered some calamari to start with and eggplant parmigiana for my entree. While waiting for my starter, I was served with bread which was pretty good. All dishes were plated beautifully! My calamari was delicious, but my eggplant parmigiana was a little bit bland. I expected a little bit more flavor, but it was okay. Overall, pretty solid experience. My sister and I were looking for the perfect venue for our father's 90th birthday celebration and Il Cappero in Lansdowne fit our needs perfectly in terms of size, location, food and atmosphere. The owner, Mario, was incredibly helpful and very easy to work with. We had 33 people at the party and their room was the perfect size for our guests. The food was so delicious, compliments to the chef! They are even celiac friendly, and prepared a separate plate just for me:) The food was incredible and the hospitality from the staff was outstanding! Adela spearheaded the event, and she did a great job making sure everyone was happy. From the appetizers, main dinner, to the cake-cutting, Adela orchestrated the event seamlessly. I even asked for Marsala sauce on it and linguine instead of mashed potatoes. No problem. And the steak was A+. In 1 word, disappointing. We ordered old fashioned when we sat down, but they were very weak & watery even though we asked that they be neat. The caesar salads were good & they gave us extra anchovies. Hubby ordered seafood marinara, and he really liked it. It had ALOT of seafood on it. I ordered salmon/shrimp in a white wine lemon sauce. The salmon & shrimp were good, but the sauce was too buttery, almost greasy. We both got a glass of chianti with dinner, and it was flavorless. A good chianti is offered by the bottle, but that's not what they serve by the glass. Once we got our entrees, the waitress never came back until she brought our check. Very nice sit-down Italian restaurant. We were looking for a good italian restaurant near the Leesburg Outlets and this seemed like a good choice. They had fried green tomatoes on special, so we had an order of those. Amazing flavor, the batter was crispy and the corn relish was very good, as was the sauce that came with it. I ordered the Rigatoni Alla Carte, and it was absolutely stellar. the sausage was extremely tender, no gristle, and had the perfect slightly sweet flavor. The cheese was extremely high quality. My wife got the gnocchi, and she said it was extremely good as well. We were so full we could not do dessert, but the dessert menu looked fantastic as well! This restaurant is going from decent to worst. My wife and I used to come more often good food and portions were decent. Today we came with my wife and the food was flavorless and the portion was small. I asked for a side of pasta with vodka sauce to compensate a $27 dish. When I got the side of pasta it was some pasta with some sort of sauce on it. It is not even close to the sauce of my dish (vodka sauce). Based on my last 3 experience in this restaurant I do not recommend it. I don't believe this restaurant serves Italian food. It is more like an overpriced "Italian Restaurant" with small portions. The Zuppa Di Cozze (mussels in white wine) was garlicky and delicious. The Brussels sprouts were sweet and savory and totally yummy. The tiramisu was creamy and fabulous. My son liked the mozzarella sticks (although I agree that the coating was somewhat non-traditional). He really loved the meatballs. He didn't really care for the chocolate fondant cake -- a bit too bitter. The service was super attentive, prompt and pleasant. Bonus points for pay by code so no waiting. The pasta was however fresh and made to order. Honestly my biggest critique were that the portions could have been bigger given the price. I also did not like that it was served on plastic plates, it very much cheapened the experience and made me feel like I was eating in a college dining hall. The service is superb though. The food came out quick and my party was attended to throughout the night. The profiteroles were the best part of the meal in my opinion. We were starving, so we ordered the meatball appetizer. Meatballs were moist, the sauce was spiced appropriately, and had fresh burrata on top. After wavering between the lasagna, bolognese, and chicken parm, I ordered the bolognese and hubby ordered the gnocchi. They came with complimentary side salads. The default is the house salad and I got the tomato and olives removed. The dressing was the house vinaigrette and it was decent, but had a little too much red wine vinegar. Hubby did the $1 upcharge and got caesar salad. They are smaller than usual side salads, but I honestly couldn't eat more. Food came ridiculously quick. We also got a basket of bread as well. I think it was homemade pizza dough that was crisped up with oil (not that I'm complaining). We were offered fresh cheese on top of our pasta, which tasted homemade (but I read on Yelp it wasn't? Who knows). Bolognese was yummy, but had a touch too much cream in the sauce. Gnocchi was pretty tasty, but I liked mine better. Both dishes needed a lil bit of salt, but I would rather it be under salted than over. The sauce for the gnocchi was almost identical to my bolognese but didn't have meat, and had a blistered cherry tomato taste. It had fresh mozzarella with it, which didn't heat up as well when we took it home, but was still yummy for lunch. Juan even gave us extra bread to take home. Portion size was HUGE for both. We got to go boxes. Lastly, we stuffed dessert in and got the grandmother cake. It was a delicious tart with lemon curd and powdered sugar on top. It was a nice, light dessert after heavy food. Ambiance seemed casual for the pricing, like a pizza joint, but we didn't mind much. Juan kept checking on us, filled the drinks, and went above and beyond. This is our new favorite Italian restaurant in Loudoun county. The food is delicious and the service is great. Initially what drew us to Il Cappero is their cozy, awning covered outdoor section. Because we're COVID cautious, we wanted to enjoy some outdoor dining and they fit the bill. The appetizers we tried are all fantastic. The calamari is crispy on the outside and soft on the inside. Not greasy at all. The bruschetta is some of the best I've had. We particularly enjoy the mussels in marinara sauce. So much so that we come back just for them. I base my judgement on how good the food is at a Italian restaurant by their tomato/marinara sauce, and the sauce at Il Cappero is outstanding. The bread they serve is their house pizza dough that's freshly baked into a "focaccia" type bread you should be using sopping up all that delightful sauce. Chef Tony is a gentleman, a true host and prepares food with expertise. You can tell that he puts his soul into his cuisine. One more thing; do not leave without having the tiramisu for dessert. I came here for dinner with my daughter during their soft opening. They don't yet have a house wine so I picked a Pinot Grigio which was quite nice. I wasn't all that hungry so I ordered a chicken Caesar salad -- omg!!! I don't think I've ever had a salad so generous on the chicken!
