Been here a few times, no frills kind of nice Korean food. This time, we decided to try the marinated raw crab. Sort of reminds us of China's Chaozhou marinated raw food as well. Basically marinated in wine and soya sauce, a little spicy. To eat, you sort of suck on the transparent soft meat texture and scoop some rice and other accompanying items. This restaurant has changed so many times, but feel Master Oh's is here to stay! They have plenty of options and it seems that their raw marinated crab and barley rice combos are the stars of the restaurant as many people were ordering it. The barley rice combo for $29 comes with a side of veggie banchan, a personal stew, and a meat item of your choice (raw marinated crab as an option too!). However, I was craving a soupy noodle so went with their spicy chicken kalguksu. The banchans that they offer were just so so, the only one I really liked was their baby bok choy kimchi and we had to keep asking for refills as they give you a little bit more at a time. However, the servers were really nice and attentive to keep bringing us back more. Unfortunately the spicy chicken kalguksu was just not it. The noodles were the slimy store bought version and the soup was oily and spicy. It did not have the hearty homey chicken soup that this dish usually is. Finally found REAL soy-marinated raw crab in the Bay Area -- the kind that's literally bursting with roe! We've been seeing it all over social media for the longest time, and my eldest has been begging to fly to LA just for this. That first moment honestly made us all go "WOW." The soy marinade was perfectly balanced -- savory with just the right touch of sweetness, zero fishiness. The crab meat was incredibly delicate and silky. Mix it with a spoonful of white rice and it's pure heaven. And the roe... unbelievably rich and creamy, almost like uni-level umami. Every bite felt luxurious. Fish Roe Spicy Kimchi Soup This pot was next level. It arrived bubbling red and vibrant, loaded with fish roe that popped in your mouth with every bite. The broth had a bold kick but wasn't harsh on the throat -- spicy, tangy, and deeply comforting. The acidity was perfectly balanced, making it dangerously addictive with rice. Each spoonful delivered that satisfying pop-pop texture from the roe. So good. Steamed Seafood Platter A massive tray of perfectly steamed seafood -- shrimp, mussels, clams, squid -- the works. Not wanting to be disappointed by another "viral" or "hyped" spot and having been craving raw soy marinated crab, I wanted to try Master Oh's. We came early (11 am), so there wasn't too many people dining (which is why I don't want to provide a rating for ambiance). Master Oh's reminded me of Master Ha's in LA. Ever since I moved out of LA/Ktown, I've been in search of worthy raw soy marinated gejang. The spicy marinated version is abundantly available, but it's much harder to find soy marinated crab that wasn't fishy and or salty. Master Ha's in LA will forever be my favorite. We ordered the bossam, seolleongtang, and the soy marinated crab. Bossam was decent, but we didn't have enough radish or garlic slices. That's a fundamental for me. You can't serve a plate of bossam and only provide 3 radish slices. Taste was good tho. Seolleongtang was quite small but also okay. It was bland so we had to add our own salt (pretty standard), which we didn't mind, but didn't have enough salt to add (lol). Raw soy marinated gejang was... not too salty (which is great) but was quite fishy. Made me feel a bit anxious since it was raw. Definitely not worth $40 for only one crab. I wanted to give this place 4 stars, but when I think if I'll be coming back - the answer is no. I can't give a place 4 or higher if I feel that the food isn't good enough for me to come back. Service was standard for the most part but we had one person that kept visiting our table. This person kept moving our food. I understand being concerned the Seolleongtang potentially spilling but it's on the table not spilling so why need to move it? When the person moved it, I got raw crab sauce all over my jacket. Then later, while I was eating, the person came back and was going to take our dish away that still had food on it. This person also pushed the trash cart around to clean other tables, didn't wash hands, picked up food and trash from the ground, and came to unnecessarily handle food items at our table. Food mishandling is one of my biggest pet peeves - especially when it comes to raw foods. To make matters worse, the same person made the assumption I was Chinese because I was Asian and not Korean. Instead of saying thank you, the person said "xie xie" to me. Having taken Mandarin in the past, I understand that to mean thank you, but I am not Chinese. We tried Master Oh on Friday night because our son had raved about it. Since it was just my husband and me, we ordered two dishes. * Pork Backbone Soup - 5/5. My husband loved it, and I thought it was absolutely delicious as well. * Barley Rice Set with Spicy Marinated Crab - I first tried this dish in Seoul a few years ago, and while I wouldn't say I love it, I definitely crave it about once a year. This set was perfect for me since the portion wasn't too big. My only small wish is that it included the crab shell as well, not just the body. Still, I'll definitely be ordering this again next year. We both really enjoyed their banchan, especially the bok choy kimchi and regular kimchi. Both were exceptional. All of the servers are nice and friendly. They constantly give us refills. On a calm winter evening, I was looking for some delicious Korean food to fuel me for a late night volleyball session. However, this restaurant only slightly hit the mark. We ordered the soy marinated raw crab and the perilla seed soup noodles. The crab was honestly really disappointing given the price tag. For $45 you literally only get a single crab, which if it was really good I would be fine with, but it was just fine. The crab was really fishy and the portion was small. Next the perilla seed soup noodle was solid, but it was kinda bland. It had very minimal perilla flavor at all but at least it was warm and comforting. The banchan was pretty solid, but definitely nothing to be raving about. I do really like the variety of banchan though as they give so many dishes. this might be my new favorite korean restaurant in the bay area!! coming from orange county, where there are plenty of korean restaurants, it's been rare to find a korean restaurant in norcal that really stands out. first off, the service is amazing!! the servers are so attentive, constantly refilling our water & the 9 complimentary banchan (side dishes) without us even asking. the menu has a nice variety of korean dishes. we ordered one of the jeongols: the spicy octopus, tripe, & shrimp stew. we also wanted to order the tartare, but they were out for the day. but they even offered to go to the meat market & order fresh ingredients for us if we really wanted to eat it. i thought that was so thoughtful and showed how they truly value their customers' experience. we also ordered add-ons of kalguksu (hand cut noodles) & ramen for our stew, which was a lot of food for 2 people. i think this dish would have been enough for 3-4 people to share because we had plenty of leftovers to take home. the stew itself was so delicious. there was a whole octopus inside (be careful to monitor it so it doesnt overcook!) and lots of small beef intestines & shrimp. the servers came by frequently to check on the temperature of the stove and to warn us of overcooking our noodles. we had such a great time dining here & can't wait to come back to try more!! read more

My first thought when I got there at 12:30PM is that they are super understaffed for the number of people waiting. There were open seats and one's waiting to be cleaned but only 2 people working the entire place so there was queue building up. No one to greet or write your name down so don't forget to do it yourself. Once seated I had to keep flagging people to try to order and get replacement side dishes. I felt pretty bad for the ones working there since they were very busy and overworked, desperately needing help. Food was delicious overall but not sure if I would come back knowing the service is pretty slow and I'll have to wait around to get seated a long time. Hope they can improve that. The restaurant is really nicely decorated (I love the flower lighting fixture in the middle of the restaurant) and clean. I got the barley rice set with marinated crab and kimchi stew for $29. Outside of the raw marinated crab, which people have endlessly raved about, their other offerings are quite solid, so no worries if you're not a fan of seafood. The seafood pancake is HUGE. Crispy on the outside, a bit doughy on the inside but still very good. They also included some kind of spicy pepper in the dough, so that was a hot surprise. The bossam was also quite plentiful, and the large size is great to split among many people (no lettuce, but the included radish wraps suffice). I liked the beef shortrib the most, great with rice and it comes out on a sizzling hot plate. The classic galbi marinade is always good when done well. The pork backbone stew was fun to consume since there were four giant pieces of backbone and we had a moment just trying to get meat out of our individual bones, but relative to the rest of the dishes it was very, very peppery and the least impressive. The menu is pretty straightforward and it's clear they focus on seafood, kalgusku, and bibimbap. The food itself was quite delicious! I thought it was pretty solid, but not something that I'd dream about. What we ordered: - Spicy Raw Marinated Crab 8/10: this was solid!! Portion sizes are also HUGE. Comes with a rice mix as well. The crab was perfect texture. Only thing is I did feel like the crab meat itself could have benefitted from sitting a little longer in the marinade as it was just slightly bland. - Kimchi and Clam Hand Drop Noodle Soup 6/10: again, portion size was huge! Came with plenty of clams, but not enough hand drop noodles in my opinion. They are basically bits and pieces of the kalgusku dough. A fair warning that they're in their soft opening phase and it really shows. They are really struggling with the service flow and the waitstaff don't seem experienced enough and make a lot of mistakes. They get very busy and it gets packed, I'm talking full house and waiting list packed. So the combo of an inexperienced waitstaff and being slammed during their soft opening means service is going to be hit or miss. I can see why this place is pulling in a full crowd despite barely any reviews on yelp or Google. They serve dishes that are hard to find anywhere else in the Bay Area. Their raw marinaded seafood is a rare find and I think the raw marinaded soy sauce crab here tastes better than the ones at DAMSO. For the crab, I like that they give you plastic gloves so it's easier to eat. The crab in shell comes with a dressed up bowl of rice. There's an option called crab meat and rice which is a bowl that's already prepared without the shell if you don't want to deal with it. Flavor wise I would say everything is decent. It scratches the itch if you're craving these hard to find dishes but nothing to rave about. The restaurant has cute details in the decorations inside and there's plenty of parking outside. So I'd say if you're really craving raw marinaded soy sauce seafood then this is probably currently the best place in the Bay Area you can get it. read more

I'm a big soup lover, and Master Oh's definitely delivered. I got the clam knife cut noodle soup, the seafood tofu soup, and spicy chicken soup. The soups were very flavorful. There was an okay amount of meat but a lot of soup (which I love). Master Oh's is reasonably priced. To note, I got takeout. But when I went to pick it up on a Thursday night, the restaurant was fairly busy. It also had cute Korean decor inside. The only con was communication. When we first tried to order takeout over the phone, there was some language barrier and confusion with the menu. We split a pork backbone soup and it came with some great banchan! There was a bokchoy gochujang kimchi that I'd never had anywhere else. The pork backbone was really hard to eat, to be honest. It was a lot of work for a little bit of meat. So we spent quite a long time eating. But we never felt rushed. It's basically bibimbap, with soup and your choice of meat side. Kimchi jjigae was a little sweeter than what I like, but still good. The soy marinated blue crab was great and of course I had to shove the shell with rice and eat the insides. Tastes like butta. My kids devoured their sujaebi and ate all the clams. this place has authentic korean food. saw a lot of people around me getting the marinated crab and fish but we tried the bossom and bibimbap. very nice and wide range of banchan. my fav are the fish cakes and spicy cucumbers. the bossom had such tender pork and paired so well with the cabbage and pickled radish. my favorite dish of the night. the bibimbap was good. can never go wrong with bibimbap, nothing too special about it tho. overall very delicious. waited about 5 min to be seated for two people on a saturday night. lots of seating inside. parking was limited tho read more

The Soy-Marinated Crab with Roe Rice was fresh, well-balanced, and incredibly satisfying. The Barley Rice Set came with grilled meat/fish, soup, and banchan -- hearty and comforting. I was worried because there were only a few reviews and highly rated. But, TRUST ME it's bomb! I didn't realize it was their soft opening until after the meal. We were seated immediately, servers were quick and attentive, and food came out quickly. Each of the banchan were so flavorful and delicious! The raw marinated crab was full of roe, seasoned well and crab meat was so firm & tender. The spicy marinated crab was also yummy but it wasn't too spicy.
