My wife and I went for dinner on a Wednesday night to try the new place since it always seems packed on the weekend. The decor was amazing and the staff was extremely attentive. We started with the pastrami egg roll and the duck egg roll, both were delicious! For dinner, my wife had the Pumpkin Shrimp and I ordered the King Crab with crispy rice. Both dinners were perfectly cooked and wonderful. The timing of the appetizers and dinners were nicely spaced and we never felt rushed. The staff couldn't do enough for us to ensure we were pleased. I have been to Hong Kong on business on many occasions and this restaurant reminds me of some of the upscale places I've eaten at there. My only negative would be the lights are too bright. They may want to dim them down a little. I look forward to going back with my sons for their Peking duck! read more

Utterly ridiculous bordering on funny. Are the customers vehicles for sale while sitting here? We're not sure. Back to the basic food. Nothing was bad, just OK but average dish is about $30.00 (!!) . Add tax, tip, a soda, a wonton soup and an eggroll ; you're getting a $15.99 "take-out" meal for $50.00 . Despite the poor reviews this place is always packed on weekends by Mutton-heads . Ordered beef noodle soup and the guy brings me beef with rice. Tells me to try it out instead... I told him to take it back and give me the noodle soup. He insists I try it.. I tried a bite then told him to switch it since it tasted bland. I tell him to take it back and forget it. Even when I specifically asked him for the beef noodle soup he still insists to finish what he gave me and then charges me after one bite. I then tell him to correct the check and take it off since it's not what I ordered. Then I tell him if it's in the house I'll take it. This is our third time eating at Master Chef. On Friday we actually ordered for pickup and it was so delicious we decided to come and dine in on Saturday. The general tso's is the best. I have been waiting 2 years for this restaurant to open. 2 years. I made a reservation and I also confirmed that I can bring my own liquor and the young women on the phone told me it is a $25 cork charge and I was fine for that. My friend also called to confirm and their answer was the same. When we arrived we asked for glasses for the liquor and the waiter who helped us said OK and went to go get the glasses. Then, the manager came and back and said strictly no alcohol on the premise. Their is no coordination with their staff. Also, the employee who said he would bring us the glasses told us in private if he was in our position he would leave as well AND he was talking bad about the manager. What kind of establishment operates in this fashion. The manager should have at least offered us something for the inconvenience. Very nice more formal elegant ambiance, cordial service from everyone. Ordered Kung Po chicken and wonton soup, my husband ordered the gyoza and the specialty lamb. Everything came out delicious! Wonderful flavors and not as greasy and take out chinese. Now, I'm not understanding the complaints here about price. There's no arguing that Master Chef LOOKS beautiful -- and it seems like the people who run it (many going back as far as the old Empire Szechuan days) are pleasant and caring. However, with prices that are, in some cases, double what you'd pay for the same dish around the corner, you'd think that the food would be off-the-charts amazing...or that the portions would be sufficient for two meals. I found neither to be the case at this new restaurant that I wanted, really badly, to like. To give it a fair test, I ordered a dish that I order every time I eat in a Chinese restaurant. The price was exactly double what I usually pay for this dish, so I was a bit concerned that I would end up overeating. When I saw the portion, easily half the size I am usually served, I almost sent it back and walked out. However, I decided to sample it first to see if maybe it was twice as GOOD as what I am used to. Sorry, not even half as good. With so many empty stores and restaurants around the neighborhood, I hate to trash anybody bold enough to take a shot at opening something new. Master Chef can probably survive catering to Gold Coast customers with a lot of money and very forgiving standards, and I hope they do. But for those of us who are just about affording the cost-of-living around here and really enjoy good portions of good food, this is not the be-all/end-all place so many of us hoped it would be. read more

The dishes were oversauced and the quality of the ingredients was poor. The noodles and spring rolls were greasy and soggy, nothing special. Everything had too much salt. Went for a mid-week dinner with my wife recently and we really enjoyed ourselves. It did seem because it was just the two of us we were seated further away from anyone else but that may just be a nature of how they split up seating people in the different sections. Place is huge and enjoyed the service. We started with soup dumplings. They were good. I agree that I expected more broth, but still enjoyed them. We were "pedestrian" in our dinner choices with a sesame chicken and beef w/vegetables but the two dishes were great and we really enjoyed them. This has to be one of the nicest Chinese restaurants I have been to in Long Island, NY. The quality of the food is magnificent. The presentation, gorgeous. The food is absolutely exquisite. The staff, owner and manager are all so very nice. The place is so beautiful and elegant. (Please note that I took these photos with an old iPhone so they don't do justice to the beauty of this place. You have to see it for yourself). The wood work throughout the restaurant is just extraordinary artistry. The entire restaurant is decorated beautifully. The attention to detail is exceptional. I wish I could have taken a photo of the chopsticks because even they, were beautiful. I could not stop smiling while I was there. I just loved it. Tonight was my first time there and I am so happy that I went. I don't know anyone there and I have no affiliation to this restaurant. This is a REAL and honest review from a real customer that will be frequenting this fine establishment on a regular basis. Please don't make a decision from the not so great reviews on here. I know from experience that people sometimes have nothing better to do than to spread hate. You also can't expect to go to an upscale restaurant that uses the finest quality ingredients in their dishes, and not pay a little more than at your average Chinese place. I could tell immediately that they use only the best quality ingredients. I am very picky about what I eat and I had zero complaints. I also did not think that it was overpriced at all. I highly recommend this place without hesitation. If you try Master Chef, you too will become a regular. Thank you to everyone that served us tonight. I have been to all of the previous restaurants at this location. They did a great job renovating and the atmosphere is lovely. Unfortunately, the dinner was a big miss! Very small portions and the food was either not good or just bland. When it first opened you needed a reservation on a weekend.
