I've been to Opus Steakhouse several times, and the food is still off the charts -- no complaints there. But the service has noticeably declined. Throughout our meal, I had to ask for my water glass to be refilled multiple times -- something that was never an issue in the past. It felt like we were constantly trying to get someone's attention for basic service. Our waiter was doing his best, but he was sat with a table of 20 midway through our dinner and had no support staff helping him until I saw him go to management. Even then, things didn't improve much. Items we ordered never made it out of the kitchen, and it took far too long for our plates to be cleared and for dessert to be offered. I still recommend Opus for the food, but they need to get the service back to the level that made it such a standout in the first place. read more

When we called ahead, we were explicitly told there would be no prix fixe menu--only to arrive and find that was completely untrue. We weren't the only ones frustrated; multiple tables around us were clearly annoyed by the same bait-and-switch. For New Year's Eve, the atmosphere was shockingly flat. No DJ, no music, minimal decorations, and absolutely no sense of celebration. The vibe was dull and lifeless--especially disappointing for a night that should feel festive. We've been coming to this restaurant (and others in the Scotto group) for years, but this experience honestly makes us reconsider future visits. We walked in the ambiance was beautiful, it was large , the furniture and decorations were modern . We were seated instantly. We started with the Alaskan king crab leg appetizer. It was perfect. Opus is, hands down, one of my favorite steakhouses on the island. It's always a great experience whenever we visit and the food and service is always fabulous! It has a very relaxed vibe, especially in the evenings when they dim the lights, and is a great place to enjoy dinner and drinks with friends or loved ones. I highly recommend That's Amore - it's a wonderful fruity drink that's always easy to finish. My absolute go-to apps are the Australian Lamb Chops and Spanish Octopus! They are both fantastic apps, especially the Lamb Chops, which are always so tender and soft and well seasoned. We switch around entrees whenever we visit but I love the Porterhouse for Two and Pork Chop. Both are excellent entrees, although I do enjoy their specials, particularly their Cowgirl ribeye. Our last visit, we tried the Squid Ink Pasta, which was absolutely delicious! Our must-have dessert is their Coconut Creme Brulee, which is just the right level of sweetness. Definitely an upmarket, "posh" ambiance but the prices reflect that. For example I looked at the very extensive wine list with bottles in the $ hundreds and as high as $1,850 for a couple of 2016 vintages (must have been a good year!!). The food was good - Mrs G enjoyed her red snapper fillet - but sadly it was somewhat spoiled by 1/2 of the fish being full of bones and so she left it. I couldn't resist the lobster (we can't get good lobster in the UK) which I found pricey at $75 - but I made up the price by sticking with 1 small glass of Chardonnay and the mac and cheese to share (I was assured that it was big enough for 3-4 at $14. I should have got 2!! I did enjoy the lobster although it was a pity that I had to remind the waiter to bring the drawn butter. The high ceilings added to the classiness of the place but it makes it challenging to hear what the waiter is saying. For some reason the waiter insisted on going through the whole menu (what a waste of time - since 5 of the 6 of us could barely hear a word). Honestly, my favorite steakhouse on Long Island, and definitely my favorite out of the Anthony Scotto restaurants. Their food is delicious, the inside of the restaurant is upscale and classy, the staff are always very helpful, and I'm a weirdo that likes a place that has high ceilings and lots of space. You can never go wrong with pretty much any steak option here, and my favorite is always the bone in ribeye, with creamed spinach and a baked potato. They recently brought back a variety of sushi to the menu so definitely recommend trying those. Higher price point for sure, but you get what you pay for with the good portion sizes and the high quality so very much worth it. We went early on a Tuesday evening; I hadn't been there since it was One North. The place is opulent, just beautiful, but the service was so spotty that based just on our experience, I would not recommend if you're looking for high end service. I arrived a few minutes early, and I took a seat across from the hostess stand. I sat for 5 to 10 minutes, and was never approached. We were a party of 6, and 4 others arrived next and were standing around, never approached. One of our group approached the hostess, and we went to the bar to wait for the last member of our party. I didn't catch her name, but the bartender was excellent. At the table our waiter was Lin, and we had an assistant waiter. They took drink orders, which took awhile, and came back to discuss the menu before drinks arrived. Our appetizers and main course were properly served, all arriving at the same time. However, the restaurant should not contain the word steakhouse. I ordered the filet mignon, and two others ordered the porterhouse for two. Each arrived at the requested temperature, but were under seasoned and were obviously cooked at too low a temperature. No char, no difference in the consistency of the outer and inner surfaces. Just two pieces of cooked meat on a plate. As for the service, the waitstaff was very pleasant and were professional while they were doing their job. But it was very hard to get a waiter's attention, even though the restaurant was not very busy. They have not been trained to look around the room. At one point, when they were at a table facing us I tried to get their attention, even waving to them, without success. Plus, they were not communicating with each other. One did not know the other had taken drink orders, and after waiting forever and ordering dessert, the other then came to take dessert orders. If you're just going for drinks at the bar in a beautiful, active setting, go for it. It's a nice scene. Five stars based on the bar alone. If you're looking for a steakhouse, there are plenty of better places on the north shore. If it hadn't been advertised as a steakhouse, the rating would have been 3 stars, but I was expecting a better steakhouse experience. read more

It's definitely a lively spot with upbeat music and lots of chatter, which gives it an exciting vibe (though it can be a bit loud). You can smell the steaks cooking right when you walk in! Our server was amazing--so friendly and attentive! He gave us great recommendations and really made us feel welcome. We enjoyed the complimentary bread with a nice bottle of olive oil, though the bread itself could've been warmer. For the main course, I went with the Chilean sea bass, which was cooked to perfection, and my boyfriend ordered the tomahawk. He finished it off by himself! The presentation of his steak was really nice, and it came out perfectly cooked to his preference. We finished with their donuts for dessert.
