I booked a dinner here for a party of 24 people for my birthday and it was one of the worst experiences of my life. I confirmed with staff that the table would be a long rectangle with 1 person on each end and 11 people on each of the long sides but when I arrived at the time of the booking (which was in the basement of the restaurant) there were 2 smaller rectangular tables that weren't set. I was shocked as I find this layout extremely antisocial and it wasn't what I was told it would be. I spoke to the owner who initially showed me to the table and asked if we could make the 2 tables into 1 table and he had no patience even though he was saying that there's no space to fit everyone despite the fact that I was explaining exactly how it was possible. The issue that I was expecting was that the long table would be a fire hazard but it wasn't, but for some reason they didn't make the table how they said they would and weren't willing to put the tables together. Luckily, there was a lovely young manager who had been there for 2 weeks only who had the patience and understanding to help me create the table, but the delay forced my guests to stand at the entrance of the basement for almost half an hour into my reservation time awkwardly. Once we finally sat down at 8:30pm (my reservation was at 8pm), a few menus were given to one person who had to distribute them among the table - I was very surprised that the menus weren't given out by our waiter, even if they didn't have enough to go around. It was extremely unprofessional and awkward. After ordering some drinks and a few bottles of wine, which came at about 8:40pm, and knowing that the restaurant was going to close at 10pm, I asked our waiter multiple times over the span of half an hour if we could please order our food. He kept insisting that I give him "5 minutes" - he was the only waiter for the entire basement, which was my large table and one other couple, who I'm sure didn't appreciate all of the table and chair moving at the beginning. At about 9:30, after asking to order food at this point for nearly 45 minutes, the owner of the restaurant came down while I was talking to the waiter (I didn't see him) and warned some of my friends on the other side of the table that we had to order our food now because the kitchen needed to start preparing it. They told me this a few minutes after and I was totally shocked as we'd been asking the waiter for so long to order food, so I went upstairs to talk to the owner and luckily the helpful manager was there too, and I explained the entire situation to them, and the owner suddenly switched after our waiter tried to interrupt me and insisted that I was lying about what happened, and the owner told me that they would stay open for me and he apologised. He tried to say that they weren't prepared for such a large party but I said that I had booked the table almost a month in advance so there was no excuse for there to be only one waiter in charge of the entire basement or for the initial issue with the table. After this conversation the dinner was fine - the food came in a disorganised way and the waiter and manager were almost shouting out the names of the dishes as if they for some reason didn't know what dish each person ordered. They stayed open for us until about 10:30 and brought out my cake with candles and served it nicely. However, the first two hours of the dinner were a complete wreck and I felt so embarrassed in front of my friends. I would never recommend this restaurant to anyone - but I was saved by the manager (I think who is called Sylvia) and another kind female waiter (Her name ended with ...Ella which I remember as my name is Ella) who brought our drinks and allowed us to play music after the other couple left, both of whom I tipped generously. Additionally, the basement itself was a complete mess - even for Valentine's Day (when my birthday was), the basement was filthy and filled with the most random items. read more
