For nearly $55 for two people I expected better than bad service, pitiful portion sizes, no drinks and no sides. I am disappointed, from the very start to the end my experience was quite bad. The kitchen did not allow a bread substitution for the sandwich we ordered, they did not do waffles at this location either, and when we got our food the portion sizes were very small. The salmon was very overpriced for how much they offered; $27 for a piece of salmon only a few inches across was insulting, but apparently that is just how it is served there (picture below, you can see the pieces of broccoli are almost as big as the fish!) The other dish we got was the chicken sandwich, which is cut into two halves. The first half was normal but there was basically no chicken on the second half of the sandwich, it was essentially all bread. We brought it up to a manager and they got us a new piece of chicken, which fit entirely alongside the old piece of chicken on the bun because it was so small. On top of that we had to wait around nearly half an hour after finishing and had to flag down a waiter to get our check and go. The service overall was very slow. Cafe Landwer is a legend that we stumbled upon on an early morning weekend walk down Boylston street. We didn't know what we were getting, but it simply thought it looked like a place we would love and clearly others knew as the place was packed with a wait (that was more that worth it). The atmosphere was energetic, full of light and color, and end-to-end charm. I have honestly never experienced a brunch like this. I've been to Cafe Landwer in Toronto and a different branch in Boston. The service and food is always consistent. However this branch in the back Bay Area was a disappointment. We were here early around 10am for breakfast. We were seated promptly, lots of space. However after being seated and given our menus, we waited a long time for someone to take our orders. We were the second or third group in the area and while we waited, the space filled up with other parties, they got attended to and got their orders. We had to get the servers attention multiple times before she came to us. The menu has a lot of options but they're not flexible at all. My friend who is vegan, does not like the fake eggs, and requested if they can replace them with falafel or something else. They can't. Everything is set to what the menu says. But at $20+ per plate, you'd expect some more flexibility. The food was ok, the breakfast plate had a lot of options but $21 for hummus and sides with two eggs and no sausage / meat? It's definitely a rip off. The food itself was just ok. Nothing out of the ordinary. It's very Americanized. If you want a true Mediterranean food, find yourself something more authentic in the burbs of Boston. Will not be coming back. Slow and inattentive service. read more

The interior is nice, the only thing is that the bathroom is quite far away, in the building next door. The menu has a lot of labelled vegan options. I had the vegan french stir fry, which was extremely good. The soy meat they used was actually among the best I've ever had. This is a bright, beautiful and busy restaurant with high ceilings and cheery decor. It is my elderly father-in-law's neighborhood spot. The menu offers something for everyone, including vegan and gluten-free options. Unfortunately, we came at 8:35 last night and were treated terribly by a young blonde woman who insisted that the kitchen was closing. A tall young man recognized my father-in-law and offered the option to take out food. Another young woman with dark hair brought us water and offered to take our order, but the blonde came over and insisted we had to go to the counter to place a takeout order. She was incredibly rude and scolded her colleagues in front of us. We asked for a manager and it seems this blonde server was in charge of FOH. Other people were eating and we promised to eat and run, but she was adamant that we must leave. Our takeout order came and we left. We came back for Sunday brunch and it was stellar. The food looked amazing and was decent, but it all felt a bit underwhelming taste wise. The environment was bright and perfect for a casual brunch. However, my only complaint is about the service. I expected the service to be exceptional.. but our server wasn't very friendly, and the host staff felt awkward and unwelcoming. Cafe Landwer is a coffee brand and chain of Israeli cafés that opened in Berlin, Germany in 1919. It was founded by Moshe Landwer. Not only did the menu items sound delicious, but it happened to be Passover and they had a number of gluten-free options for those observing the Jewish festival. Since the weather was so nice that day, we asked to be seated outside. To drink, I ordered a "Cappuccino" while my older son had a "Nutella Choco-Chino" (w/ marshmallows, whipped cream & sprinkles). For food, my wife had the "Chicken Shawarma Hummus Bowl" (spiced chicken, caramlized onions, homemade hummus with tahini, olive oil, paprika, parsley & two pitas), my older son had the "Kids Breakfast" (one egg any style, toasted challah, cream cheese, Nutella, vegetables & seasonal fruits), my younger son had the "Kids Mac & Cheese" (pasta with classic cheese & cream sauce, served with vegetables), and I had the "Mediterranean Shakshuka" (poached eggs on side tomato pepper stew, feta cheese, roasted eggplant, chopped salad, tahini, pita). We made a reservation for 6 people and luckily could get in the next day. It was confusing because there's a large sign out front saying wait to be seated, but we waited 15 minutes past our reservation in a large line out front before one person in our party just tried to go in and ask - they ended up letting us in that way. They were nice to let us sit while one person in our party was stuck in traffic. However, it took quite a while to get food, and the table honestly couldn't fit everything for us. Also the waiters were not very attentive, with it taking us a long time to get more water, and even the bill (about 30 min after we were done and 20 min after they had cleared about half of the plates) I know people rave about the shakshouka but my friends said it was lacking flavor. Smoothies were ok and the salmon eggs Benedict was fine. My friend said it didn't blow her mind. The pancakes are huge and super fun, and my waffles were yummy! The server lady at the front, named Nadly, is racist and rude. I had a reservation on a weekday afternoon and arrived 30min early. There are quite a lot empty seats in the restaurant during that time, and two other walk-in groups (who are white people) after me got seated directly without waiting. After waiting there for 10min, I came to Nadly again, she tried to ignore me in the beginning and said "your table will be ready at your reservation time"after I asked again and directly walked away with a disrespectful attitude and mocking tone, while other 2 groups of 4 people after me who are walk-ins got seated directly and the restaurant is still having quite a lot of empty tables in the meantime. This is a very cute place right in front of the Boston public library. It was pretty affordable and had quick service. The halloumi shakshuka was plated nicely and had great flavor. I loved the halloumi paired with the dish which was something I haven't had before. I do wish the shakshuka came a bit spicer.
