Aceituna Grill is a small, local chain in the Boston area with four locations. The menu has three main Mediterranean options (pita roll-up, rice plate, salad plate) where you can mix and match with different proteins and sides. I ordered a salad plate with falafel for protein. It came with pita bread and two sides so I got hummus and fried cauliflower. Everything was fresh and it was a TON of food for $15ish which you can easily make into two meals. We ordered at the counter and ate in the restaurant. Service was quick and the restaurant was clean. This is a great little find on Newbury street, especially if you're looking for fresh food and great service! The servers and staff have all been super nice and made the experience pleasant. It feels like a family, even with the order as you go set up, which is really impressive. Food-wise, everything is great! There are many options to customize the dishes and lots of vegan and gluten free options. The food is fresh and flavorful too, it's hard to go wrong with any of it. My personal favorite is the falafel plate, with the spicy sweet potatoes. There's some indoor seating inside, but since the restaurant shared the front of the building with another restaurant, outdoor seating is limited. If you get the food to go, you can find a spot on Newbury to people watch or just stroll over to the esplanade a short walk away. Aceituna after dark : We recently booked what was advertised as an open table experience (spent $$$$), but unfortunately, the overall execution fell far short of expectations. The event took place in a small room behind a curtain--essentially a bar area inside what is otherwise a fast food establishment. It lacked the ambiance and setting of a proper restaurant, which was surprising given the experience's price point. Seating arrangements clearly prioritized fitting in as many guests as possible over providing comfort. Bar stools and small tables--more suitable for children--offered no cushioning and were made of hard wood, making the overall setup uncomfortable and cramped. Of the four or five appetizer options advertised, one of the main dishes--meatballs--was unavailable, leaving tuna and a selection of vegetarian options. The main course, lamb, was very difficult to cut even with a steak knife and was dry, as though it had either been overcooked or prepared in advance. While the bartender was attentive and professional, the waiter was slow and at times handed dishes directly to me to place on the table myself. To make matters worse, a 21% service charge (18% tip and 3% kitchen fee) was automatically added to the bill. Despite this, the payment terminal still prompted for an additional tip without any clear indication that gratuity had already been included--leaving guests at risk of tipping twice. At this price, we expected a curated, comfortable, and professionally delivered dining experience. This is a great place for a quick, well priced Mediterranean meal. The food is good with good portions, and the sides are yummy - I especially enjoyed the moussaka. The staff are friendly too. I really like how there are sides that come with the bowls! I just wish there were slightly more options - other types of meals, rather than just a bowl or salad - and also I feel like there should be more options of toppings for the bowls rather than just salad / rice topped with protein. I also feel that the seating of the restaurant isn't very warm or comforting. Overall though, I really like this place and would recommend it as a quick and filling meal. read more

Food (1.5/2): 1.5 is my top score for this restaurant as I was only able to take one bite out of the food I ordered (i.e. I can't truly assess the whole dish). I was supposed to have rice, chicken, hummus, and ?moussaka? with a hint of garlic sauce. From what little I've tasted, the rice were cooked nicely, chicken were tender and the garlic sauce was strong (I liked it). What happened to my dish, you ask? Evidently, the dish is so good that not one, not two,...but THREE bees decide to permanently hover ~1-2 inches around my food as I try eating outside. I was very conflicted. Do I squish them? They might fight back and sting me. Shoo them away? Do I move? But then I'll eat standing...? As I ponder and tussle with the bees for about 2 minutes, I thought they showed hints of surrender. Nope--they went harder and decided to be millimeters away from the food, causing me to slap my food by accident and...there goes my food. I felt mocked by them as one of the bees landed on the aftermath on the ground. I can't believe I lost my food to bees. Baffled, I just threw away what remains of my food without thinking before regret sets in. Service/wait-time/cleanliness (0.5/2): Wait-time was quick as they serve "Chipotle"-style. The place is generally clean and well-maintained. Service was otherwise great and friendly. "Why 0.5/2 then?" Strictly because they lost my trust. My dish would've been ~$14 before tax+tips. But I somehow was charged for 2 bottles of water ($5 total) even when I've said I did not want any. So I was charged ~$19, not including the tips I gave. This would've warranted 0/2. I raised it to 0.5/2 since they were willing to resolve the issue (another server) when I pointed it out after my war with the bees. It's a small increase because the server that "mis-charged" me didn't express any apology. Price (1/1): Having said all that, considering the area and the portion that you get, it's very well-priced. I would recommend the place if you're not concerned about bees or potential "mis-charge". read more

The ingredients were very fresh, tasty, and the amount of chicken was well above the norm. Also, there was a diverse mixture of soft and crunchy veggies adding to the the uniqueness of the roll up. The two employees were very pleasant and helpful in answering questions before ordering. Salads I ordered were good and fresh, but falafel and rice/lentil salads were cold. I ordered a hot/warm falafel in pita and got cold falafel and cold bread, separated.
