Each time they tried to upsell me by talking about other better(more expensive) choices. Gel X. I tried it once and was very unhappy with it. Today my teenage son went to get a plain mani/pedi before camp. He was not satisfied with the service so left a low tip. The owner came over to him and said most people leave 20%. I was so upset to hear this. My son changed the tip because he was so uncomfortable not because he thought they deserved it. They did not do the full service for him. The massage was very short and no paraffin. There are so many nail salons around. We will go back to the salons that appreciate the business we give them and do not treat customers this way.

Lately I've felt rushed even when it was slow. I stopped getting gel to take a break and I honestly don't see the point in a regular manicure as they whip right through it. My nails never last more than a day. I've had more regular manicures than I can count and by far have never felt that rushed. The corners of my nails didn't even have nail polish on them.... sloppy work. When I first started coming I was impressed by the cleanliness. Now I'm not sure it's worth coming back to. When I came back in my card was sitting next to the register and she had walked away. I put the cash down and took the credit card back. Mask wearing is optional, though, even more the techs, so if you're uncomfortable with that, it might not be your place. There were several techs working and I loved to hear the rapport among the staff as they laughed and joked with each other. While they seemed to really be enjoying each other, they often didn't have that same warmth with customers. I found Helena to be a bit unwelcoming and bordering on apathetic which is why I am only giving four stars; however, the work she did was phenomenal! She took great care of my nails and walked me through her process. She thinned out the acrylics which were too thick for me and gave me a beautiful gel finish. Even though I wish she were a bit warmer, I'll still be booking another appointment with her because she truly is talented.

A regular manicure is $20, which is higher than average (outside of Wellesley) but it's worth it because of the great service, lasting results (2 weeks later and still no chips!), and the relaxing and quiet atmosphere that resembles a cozy brownstone apartment living room. Selma owns and runs this place--she is knowledgeable, friendly and professional. Her clients clearly adore her as much of her business is through word of mouth referrals.

Today, I decided to try them for a powder dip manicure and I was HORRIFIED at how they violate standard hygiene practices and guidelines. To be specific, they just dip your fingers straight into the dip jar instead of setting aside a small amount for your particular manicure. This is known to cause infections and actually means that each dip jar on display and in use is harboring bacteria. I wanted to bring this up to my nail tech but when she dismissed my concerns and questions about another issue related to the manicure, it became clear that I wasn't going to get anywhere with this. The manicure itself looks good but now I'm paranoid that I'll get an infection. So, safe to say I won't be returning for powder dip manicures. 5 stars for pedicures 2 stars for manicures
