Thank goodness for honest, local mechanics! I had been calling around to different mechanics to find out which auto shop works with hybrid cars (I have a Toyota Prius). I eventually was directed to Mario's Garage and I'm so happy I found this place. As a woman, I'm always on high alert with mechanics taking advantage of me assuming I don't know anything about cars (tbh I don't lol). Screw this place. Talked to Carlos today because my car was making a weird noise. I asked him if he can get in the car so I can drive him down the block to show him what I was talking about. He didn't bother turning on the car and told me that if he did they'd have to charge me $120 minimum. Dafaq?! He didn't even bother turning on the engine but told me that I'd need to pay up. With all the mechanics I've worked with in the past, this place sucks the most. I get that they're a business but can you have any less compassion for your customers? I took my 2007 Saturn Vue Hybrid to Mario's since I was experiencing fuel smell from the top of my fuel tank. I pointed this out to him at the beginning. I got a labor quote for $275 to remove and replace the fuel tank and diagnose the problem. That was better than Sharps so I decided to give Mario's a try. Before the work started, Carlos inspected the car and stated that I had no oil in my engine and that I also had a coolant leak from a "heat exchanger" that is a part of my hybrid subsystem. I knew I had a coolant leak but I did not know what this "heat exchanger" was. He gave me a quote of $833 for the part. (GM Part Number 25774433) . That cost was greater than the value of my Hybrid so I told him that I did not want to buy the part and have it installed. I reminded him again that I wanted the gas tank removed and resolve the gas leak. His mechanic removed the tank and found that the rubber gas line near the gas pump assembly was leaking and that it could not be fixed but required a new gas pump assembly for $583. I agreed reluctantly to the additional part cost and told him to proceed. I picked up my car and told him to give me the part number for this "heat exchanger" and that I would take care of it. It turned out that the problem part was an electric water pump that I had previously replaced a few years ago that retailed for around $100. I found an OEM replacement part for $25 dollars (not $833). The part is easy to get to so I will replace it myself at home. Also, the car was not empty of oil but just a few quarts low. So to the wise, Mario's like many garages will try to sell you overpriced parts and tell you that they can only order them. I showed Carlos the identical OEM gas assembly on Amazon for a hundred dollars cheaper but he was not willing to purchase it since "he depends upon making money on the parts ordered or he would go out of business". Today we have many options for buying automotive parts that at OEM parts from hundreds of distributors if you are willing to do the work. The identical part should be acceptable from another if a warranty is the same. Carlos could have saved me money but he would not and did not even offer me his 10% senior discount when I found it on their web site and requested it. He explained that his mechanic he had added a quart of oil (well 2 quarts) and ran a smoke test so that canceled my discount. I had never asked to add oil or run the smoke test. It was very obvious from the gas smell that it was coming from the top of my gas tank and that was only the job I wanted him to do. Sincerely, Glenn K of Oxnard read more

We first used Mario's Garage about 5 years ago, when the rear differential on my husband's Dodge pickup went bad. We took it to the dealer who said it couldn't be fixed, and a replacement would cost $6000. We took it to Mario's for a second opinion. They were able to fix it instead of replace it, and the job was only $3000. We had been thinking about just replacing the truck instead, but now we've been able to continue driving it for years. I was impressed with the organization and cleanliness of the garage. The proprietor, Carlos, took time to print out a mechanical drawing of the affected parts, pointing out what wasn't working and what needed fixing. This is standard procedure every time we take our car in for something. I like being educated and treated with respect, as they always do. In addition, when I went to pick up the truck, it had been cleaned, including a steam cleaning under the hood! Talk about customer service. I highly recommend Mario's Garage. They are trustworthy, respectful, and they really know their stuff. They are always working on keeping up with the latest technology. We drive from Ventura down to south Oxnard to see them, especially if we think the repair will be a tricky one. You can't expect to have your car cleaned every time (it can depend on their workload on that day), but you can certainly expect expertise and top-notch service here. read more

In 2017, I took my car to Mario's garage because my check engine light was on. Mario knew I was a young & naive girl who didn't know any better so he took advantage of me and charged me $100 JUST TO "INSPECT" THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT. Excuse me?!? And then he quoted me over $800 for a new catalytic converter... I literally gave this crook free money. On my receipt it says "labor total: $99" what labor?? It's sad that you have to do this to people who come to you for "help." I definitely do not recommend coming here! I've been coming to Mario's Garage for a few years now... Finding a repair shop that one can trust is similar to finding lost treasure these days. This IS one of those GEMS! Not once did Carlos (the owner) steered me in the wrong direction. Not once did they proposed unnecessary repairs. Not once did they do any work without my consent. HOWEVER... They did repair my vehicles according to what was discussed. They did explain (in detail) what the repairs would be and their cost. They did treat my vehicles as if it were their own. They did go above and beyond a regular shop would. So, if you want your repairs done with an honest and reputable shop - give Mario's Garage a try! From A Busy Mom with 2 little girls, We brought our 10-year-old Mini Van in for service. Carlos and his team were so understanding and caring as my girls 6 and 3 years of age waited in the lobby with me as they inspected my van. After 1 hour passed they even offered to drive the 3 of us to my husbands work so we could continue with the rest of our busy day, SO AWESOME!! It turned out we had a bad oil leak and needed a new transmission. If it were not for the fact we trusted "Mario's Garage " we would have been out a lot of money looking for a new van rather then making a small investment and getting many more years with a van that works well with my family and our busy life style. They noticed the cabin air filter was quite dirty and gave me a good deal on a replacement. (Appreciate that especially with my allergies). Carlos is knowledgeable and accommodating. The shop is clean and they probably do a good job. On my first visit I felt that I was charged a bit more than is normal for an oil change. On my second visit I was charged even more. Examining the bill, I noticed that I was charged $37 for a cabin air filter (retail price $7-12) plus $28 labor (it's 3 latches from glove compartment, no tools required, takes 15 seconds). I understand that shops need to mark up price on parts, but things like that make me feel like being taken advantage of. So my second visit became my last. read more

Let me start you off by saying Carlos's poor attitude towards his customers that come into the shop. When you meet Carlos, he starts by opening his fat mouth about his superiority and knowledge on everything about cars (even though his job is a secretary). I took my 1992 GMC Sierra yesterday because it was having problems with the fuel pump. Carlos gave me a quote of $870 and he told me it also had problems with the transmission when I just recently put a new one in. This guy is a total rip-off! I took my truck to another shop and they charged me $80 to replace the part and put it on. My truck is running perfect now and I asked this shop to check my transmission and they said it was perfectly fine. This guy is just out to rip people off for money and say things that are not even wrong with my truck . This guy is a total RIP-OFF!! Side note, I want to point out that Carlos did not bother showing me the part or considering an affordable alternative for the part that I needed. Like others have mentioned, this man is money hungry to scam people that have no knowledge about cars. To even make matters worse, Carlos gave me a smirk and acted like a smart ass when he was explaining to me about my problem. I honestly think Carlos needs to get off his high horse and focus on his YouTube tutorials how to work on a car.
