Stopped in (without an appointment) to have my brakes checked. I had my brakes replaced about 6 months ago at another shop, and my brakes have been making a squeaking/grinding noise ever since. I took my car back to the original repair shop and they did nothing to alleviate the noise. I found Brakes Plus on Yelp and figured it was worth a shot, since they have such great reviews. I was not disappointed!!! After spending close to an hour checking my brakes, I was told they were still good, it was just that inferior brake parts were used at the other shop. He was able to make a few adjustments and voila!, my brakes no longer make that horrible sound. To top it all off, I wasn't charged a penny!!!! Was quite happy when the new Brakes Plus opened up here in Norman, OK just a few weeks ago! Decided to go in for my free inspection on my old, classic Camaro! I was extremely pleased with the service and personnel at this Brakes Plus at 2503 West Main St.. NEDA was my Service Advisor.....and she was Outstanding! I don't believe this business exists either. Called several times and no one answers. I didn't even get an answering machine! I wouldn't bother with attempting to reach out to this business. Owners should take their link of the website and be REMOVED from yelp. Just a waste of time. Don't get hooked on the scam $19 coupon for Smog check, its a come-on. When I started looking for smog check spots this place popped up. I've never had to do this before as I'm still newer to California, so I looked for a top rated spot. These guys had some of the best reviews and they were all consistent so I decided to stop by. I was NOT disappointed. They were nice and welcoming from the start. Oscar got me signed in and got my car in for the test immediately. Ten minutes later I was paying for the test and sent on my way. The place has that small neighborhood auto shop feel that I grew up knowing. I'm from the Midwest so that's a lot of what you find out there. The guys were super nice and made everything really easy especially for a newbie. I will definitely recommend them to anyone who needs simple smog tests or even other automotive work done. read more

Oscar is a straight shooter. I had called him from Sears Auto Center where they told me I needed new front brakes and rotor resurfacing for $369. I read the reviews and decided to call Oscar. He told me he could do my front brakes including resurfacing the rotors for about $200 less than Sears. When I got to his shop he actually told me I had 50% brakes left on the front. He actually took me out to my car and showed me how much I had left. I didn't need brakes and the rotor was fine. He then took the time to make sure that the regularly scheduled maintenance was all up to date. I walked out of there spending less of $100 and feeling like I met somebody I can really trust. read more

Took my car for the first time after reading previous yelp reviews. I dropped off my car so they could check my brakes that had been squealing. Oscar was great, called to let me know that I needed both front and back brakes on my camry. Completed the job along with an oil change for a good price. Called Wednesday for a smog test and was told no testing until Saturday? Called Saturday morning when they opened and was told to come in at 9. Arrived at 8:45 and he hooked up my car for a pre test but sain his device was having a problem communicating with my car. Then hooked up my car to a smog testing system, but didn't do anything? Then another guy arrived and started operating the system. After 20 minutes was told their system wasn't communicating with Sacramento so to come back Monday! I was in Ventura Co last week, took my daughter's car to Brake Masters in Oxnard and got just the opposite. I had a loose tie rod clicking that I thought was a strut problem. 19.95 oil change, tighten tie rod, air filter and drill/retap a loose bolt on a stabilizer link where it attached to the frame... $72. I expected 300-400 with struts, etc. Oscar get 5 stars! ... an extremely honest guy and a sole proprietor, not a chain! read more

This is the true "Honest Mechanic" shop. And at great prices too. After taking my truck to other mechanics and having repair after repair done at more and more costs and still not running right, I listened to a friend and took it to Oscar. The smog tech sucks! He failed my car because he said it was tampered. Took it somewhere else and passed. My vehicle doesn't even have that part. I should call BAR and have him go back to school. I wouldn't want to shut ur shop down by the BAR... So I have a 3.9L? Is that why I got it double checked before re-smog and it's a 3.5l flex fuel. Where did u guys learn your stuff books? I believe your profession is hands on. Oh yeah is that why I passed 2 years ago also because I have a 3.9? Or was it because I have a 3.5 like I was told 3x today? read more

When I needed new brakes, Oscar fixed them, showing me what was wrong and how they work. Each time I've come in, he's done the same, & has had reasonable charges. My car is older & the check engine light came on just when I was due for a smog check for my car registration. He diagnosed the problem & helped make sure my car would be able to pass the test.
