Employees here are not rude, but they just have no appreciation for customers. I came back for a free retest and after driving my vehicle for 120 miles just to make sure it was going to pass. I came back within 10 minutes of them closing. There was nobody in line and the employee told me that they could not take me in. When they did the full test the initial time it only took them about 15 minutes so I did not understand why they could not take me in this time after I explained that I had just gotten back from driving that far. This is no appreciation for customers time and efforts. I have been coming here for 10+ years but the last few times there seems to always be something wrong with my vehicles. Just had our Infinity smogged by 5 Points Smog. The service could not have been better. They very efficiently brought our car in and immediately conducted the required test. It only took less than 10 minutes. The people conducting the test and those in the office could not have been nicer. The price for the test was significantly less than others I checked with. Arrived at 5pm on a Wednesday (they close at 6pm) saw about 4 cars inside. Was approached at my car in 2 minutes. Jonathan was super nice. I assumed it would be 30 mins & he agreed. Was told to go in waiting room which looked small w/ about 6 people in it. So i just hung outside & watched them work on the cars. Shortly 2/4 cars left, & started on mine. This has to be the worst smog station in Oxnard. Technicians are inept and I'll informed. Took my truck to get smogged. It has a cold air intake with a CARB sticker saying it's legal for use in CA. Problem is the technician entered the motor size as a 5.7L the first smog then entered it as a 5.0 this time. So now the CARB number doesn't cover the 5.0 only the 5.7. I explained it to him and he was a jerk and said he wouldn't help me. Basically I'm out $300 for this air intake and another $300 to get one approved for the 5.0. Just a complete waste of time and money. I asked for the manager to call me and did not receive a call. This same shop entered the mileage on my RV as 130k when it was 13k. I brought my Cr-V here and I was in and out in 15 minutes. They take card, and were very courteous. They even let my niece and gf sit in the back seat with the baby as they put the car on the dyno and did the test. Best of all it was under $50. It's hard for me to give them anything but 5 stars and I would definitely recommend this place. Trying to get your car smogged on a Sunday in Ventura County can be a pain. Most smog places are not open, so I was happy to see 5 Points Smog was. I drove up and there were only 2 people in front of me, I was stoked -- this wasn't going to take long at all. Well I was right. The lady informed me that their weekend technician "did not feel comfortable" running my car on the dyno because it is a manual. What kind of smog technician can't drive stick? I asked her if she knew of any other smog places open on Sundays in the area and she said no. I hopped back on Yelp, and found another place less than half a mile away. I won't be back as the only selling point for this place was being open on Sunday and their Sunday technician won't smog manual cars. 1/5 on Competence ( You need to be an ASE certified mechanic, among other certifications, to be a smog technician. They usually have several technicians working at the same time. However, today their machine was down and the office manager met us as we drove in, offering us directions down the street to their sister's smog location with a $5 discount. Excellent! I called many places to receive a quote for an out-of-state vehicle smog inspection. They were one of the lowest, totaling $43.00. I chose them after speaking to them on the phone and seeing on Google Maps that they were in a decent part of town. They were very helpful to answer all my questions and even provided me with a $5 coupon! The place was very easy to find too. I was in and out in no more than 15-20 mins. I received a paper copy for the DMV and they submit electronically. Lisa and Mort were very nice and helpful with the entire process, especially since I've never had to have a smog inspection as I'm originally from Florida. Great service & open Sundays a plus. If you have any doubt about passing, ASK FIRST! The tech is required by law to run the test whether he knows it'll fail immediately (check engine light on or modifications or missing parts) or not, but can pretest it for you if YOU ASK first. It may save you the initial fee up front. I failed the first time because I recently disconnected the battery and the computer didn't have enough history stored. I called 3 smog shops in Oxnard for quotes and time. 5 Points was below the average cost with the certificate. ( some places don't tell u about the certificate and then add it on). The lady said it would take about 15 minutes. Way better than leaving it for an hour as the other places wanted. I had called several other smog shops to get a general range in what to expect in price, and even tho this was not the closest, I felt the courteousness and sweetness of the woman who answered the called, justification enough to make this the smog shop I went to. When I arrived she was just as nice in person as she was on the phone. My car passed and with their $5.00 off [verbal] coupon, it was only $43.00! The customer's car before my car did not pass, and I was able to over hear them courteously explain in detail what some of the issues were, and how he has a free return smog test if returned within one month, and the smog certificate would be $8.00.
