When I was calling around to find out about getting my car fixed he was the only person I spoke with who was willing to look at it for free and gave me a quote over the phone. He even suggested things I could try to fix it myself before bringing it in. Needless to say he was very helpful, polite and accomodating. He told me to bring it in whenever I could, which was right away. When I got there he came and greeted me and went straight to checking my car out. He said he would give me a call in awhile when he looks more into it. I received a phone call about three hours later with the exact price and that it would be ready the next day. I was extremely pleased with the job and service. He even topped off my oil and made other maintenance suggestions without being pushy. Best mechanic ever. Bernie has been taking care of my family's vehicular needs for almost 40 years now. A family friend and a trusted mechanic. I've been taking my own cars to him for 10 years now and he has ALWAYS been respectful and he always works hard to make sure I understand the problem with my vehicle. But the thing that has always kept me coming back is that he works with me on paying for my car. He understands that not everyone has an extra $900 laying around for a sudden car problem. My van started having issues this morning, the check engine light came on and it wouldn't idle right. This had me totally stressed out as I am on a road trip up California. So I looked up a mechanic and Cuevas came up. I came over after calling and he immediately took a look. His attitude was not only friendly but also very personal and "real". He advised me that I had probably had a bad batch of gasoline. He didn't charge me anything and even have new a tour of his garden. I feel like I have a mechanics consultant and a new friend. Couldn't be happier with my stop at the garage this morning. EDIT The problem persisted and got worse. If I weren't as experienced a driver it could have been quite dangerous as it was stalling coming off of highways and while taking tight turns on winding mountain roads. I highly recommend Cuevas Automotive. I was searching for an auto repair shop in the area when my brother's vehicle stalled near 5-Points. Not knowing anyone in the area, I was impressed by Cuevas Automotive's high ratings. I was not disappointed when I brought the car in the shop late in the afternoon. Bernie and his wife greeted us in the office. Very friendly and courteous, even though it was at the end of a very hot day. Bernie is a straightforward, no-nonsense kind of guy who will treat you like family. He explained that he would look at the car that day but because it was near closing time, he wouldn't be able to work on it until the next day. But he called me within the hour to explain what was wrong. We agreed to replace the very old leaking radiator, and he ordered it immediately. He even checked all fluid levels free of charge and filled up the oil which was running low. All work was done in less than a day, even though his shop was full. He made sure to test the radiator before giving me a call that the car was ready for pick up. Bernie even showed us the old parts that were replaced. I am glad we found an honest auto shop in the area. I will be coming back here for future auto repairs. read more

I bought a used car in February. Like any used car from a private seller, there's problems. I took it to Bernie and have never been happier with a mechanic! He replaced my transmission, tail light, blinker relay, and other things(small things). When it came to my transmission he gave me the code and even the name of other mechanics if I wanted to price shop! What mechanic does that?! I'll tell you; an honest one! Everyone else was really expensive so I went back to Bernie and wouldn't have had it done anywhere else. He's very honest & straight to the point. Awesome service, great guys! I took my car to a prior mechanic who gave mechanics a horrible reputation, Cuevas has changed my outlook on honest mechanics, they do exist! Mr. Cuevas at this shop was very friendly and honest, as well as all his staff. He actually told me I did not need a job I thought I needed. I took my car back to this shop for another job, Mr. Cuevas charged me less than the estimated price. The reason, the job did not take as long. I love Bernie!! As with the previous reviews, I must agree with all of them 100%. The first thing you will read is that he is honest. I can't express enough how honest this guy is. He tells you exactly what is going on, he won't push or pressure you into making a decision unless every other option has been expired. He understands that maintenance on any vehicle is costly and we, as Southern Californians, use our vehicles as a means to live. You can tell right off the bat, he's not trying to scam you, he isn't out to get your money or continuously finding "things" to "repair". He is legit and trustworthy. And the labor and price of parts are so reasonable. I don't really want to put myself out there like this, but I do not make a lot of money and I only get paid once a month. Bernie will go over with me what to repair, replace or maintain on my truck (he explains everything in great detail), afterward he will tell me the price of everything, and then he will go over with me what is crucial to work on and what I can wait on until I get paid again. I called today because I had a check engine light on, so I asked for price and time of diagnostics and the wait time. He just said to come right in, he would take care of me and he wouldn't charge me for using the Scanner. And true to his word, I came in, he was very friendly, checked out my car, and determined that it was only a faulty sensor. Not to mention he also helped resolve some other minor issues I had, at no charge. He said that it didnt need to be fixed right away because it was a pretty pricey part until a smog check was needed. He didn't charge me anything for his time and he said the only thing he hopes for is when I need my smog check I come to him to get the sensor fixed, and based on his service I think I will. read more

I went to Bernie out of the blue when needing a mechanic encouraged by the reviews and motivated by the funny fact that we share the same last name which is an uncommon surname in this country. I immediately joked with him about treating me fair as we were "cousins" at least somehow in the distance origins of our surname. Bernie did a great job and saved me a lot of money and now, he is my choice to serve all my vehicles. Bernie is an honest guy which is difficult to find in his trade. Last week, I brought an SUV with what I thought was a faulty transmission, a fairly expensive repair. He called me back shortly after with his diagnosis. It was just a faulty line and the transmission has lost the fluid. Less than $150 fixed the problem. 99% of chances are that any other shop will have stick to the transmission change charging thousands of dollars. read more
