Hefty margarita glasses! And that might be a Ouija board behind me ...
    PaHoua L.

This review is purely for the margaritas and service. I was out on a Friday night with a friend and we decided to head out for margaritas and came across this restaurant as one of our stops. The service was prompt and friendly. Marinitas has a house-made sour mix, and after having drinks here, I believe I have been drinking crappy Margaritas my entire life. Marinitas uses high quality liquor, and their house-made sour mix is incredible. How have I never come across a restaurant or bar that uses house-made sour mix? I'm not sure I can ever enjoy store-bought margarita mix again. As for the restaurant itself, the walls are brick and the exposed wooden beams creates a lodge feeling. The tables, seats, and stools seem to be high quality solid wood. Even the margarita glasses were hefty. Then there is some religious decor, and I might have accidentally touched a Ouija board when I was trying to straighten out a piece of art on the wall. Yikes! Luckily I did not have any ghost visitors that I noticed when I was home alone. We walked to this location and passed it right up since the sign that was visible to us said Cantina. There are big heavy doors with the symbol M on the doors. Lastly, this is a bit of a nicer restaurant. My friend and I were in jeans and a t shirt, but other guests were dressed more nicely -- men in button downs and jackets, women in blouses.

The old Tres leches cake -rich, moist, cinnamony, creamy, decadent, topped with the right toppings : mango & strawberries, irresistible

The old tres leches cake vs the new one. The old one is the one lacking cinnamon and looking like a safeway cake slice. The ones with cinnamon, mango and moisture are the pics of the old, authentic, delicious recipe. I came here for my birthday last year to get the tres leches for the 10th year and we waited 30 mins for a pre ordered cake that was ordered in advance. There was no one to even greet us for the first 10 mins, we had to go find someone. It started going downhill from there. It pains me to write this because this restaurant used to be a town favorite! Everything is different now. The service the food, the dessert etc. this is a huge disappointment. Your tres leches cake used to be my favorite dessert. I would get it for the last 10 years for my birthday every year. Not only is it nothing like it used to be but it is not even good. Please change it back!!! P.s. the new one doesn't even have cinnamon.... Which is extremely inauthentic.

I've been here a few times and like this place. It's spacious inside and has a good vibe to it. Great to go with friends or a date. The service was great. When we stepped in the guy at the counter was on the phone. Another worker came quickly and sat us. Our waiter was super nice. I ordered the Enchilada vegetarianas this time. Unfortunately, the taste wasn't to my liking. I wouldn't order it again. I've ordered other items before and they were good. I'd still come back, but I probably won't order this again. The chips and guac are always good. I love the thin tortilla chips. Even though my dish wasn't to my liking, I'd still come back as my previous food experiences were a good one.

Marinitas restaurant is absolutely gorgeous. High ceilings and so many decorations to look at! The service was excellent--we happened to get Mike the bartender and he helped select the perfect shot of tequila for my companion. The restaurant makes the tortillas chips--they were fresh, thin, and crispy. I ordered the intriguing-sounding "enfrijoladas," which were fun. My companion had shredded beef enchiladas. The margaritas come in small cocktail glasses vs. the usual margarita glass, FYI. The menu is extensive and we look forward to visiting again. They also have a brunch that looks interesting.

Love the fast service along with best margaritas and food! Just starting with a basket of chips and salsa is a great start along with my favorite margarita the Delux

We always love Marinitas for its creative Mexican food - camarones con chipolte, fish tacos, enchiladas de carne (mole), and the plata margaritas. They have continued well under new ownership this year!

Marinitas is one of the best Marin restaurants. Let's help them stay afloat during theses hard times and order some takeout.

Tye, our server, was friendly and kind and on top of refilling waters, offering drink suggestions, and grabbing to-go boxes before we even asked for them! I had the chicken parmigiana, which was light and flavorful, and the steamed spinach that went with it was delicious (and I HATE cooked spinach, but gave it a try and actually enjoyed it for the first time ever!) The andouille sausage that was served with the pesto risotto was smoked and you could really taste it, and the spicyness was just perfect. The pesto sauce was heavy on the pine nuts in the best way. It wasn't oily or heavy on the basil or garlic like a lot of pesto sauces can be, and that left the risotto so light and almost citrusy. My cousin had the harvest garden dish, and they were stunned by how delicious it was. As a vegetarian, they are particular about their veggies, but everything was 'perfectly cooked'. At the end of the meal we were surprised by the panna cotta with the fruit remoulade, which we devoured in like three minutes haha! We really enjoyed all of the food, the service, and the ambiance. We only wish we lived closer, but might make the 90+ mile trip from Sacramento just for the amazing food now and then.

There was plenty of outdoor seating, but inside felt pretty cramped. I ordered the crawfish omelette, expecting fresh crawfish sautéed with onions, cilantro, and garlic (you're welcome for the free menu idea ). Instead, it arrived as a basic omelette stuffed with crawfish gumbo. The whole thing tasted oddly sweet--almost dessert-like, which wasn't what I wanted for breakfast. The only silver lining? I take my latte unsweetened anyway, so at least I didn't have to stress about my blood sugar spiking too much. Service was a little chaotic; they seemed short-staffed with just one server hustling between the patio and indoors. Overall, I wouldn't recommend the crawfish omelette. That said, I'm not totally writing the place off--I'd come back to try a different breakfast dish.

Having visited New Orleans earlier this year, I was so excited to try this place! As soon as I walked in, I felt like I was transported back to NOLA! There were beads hanging and Mardi Gras decorations throughout the restaurant. Since it was a weekday, there was no wait and we had our choice of sitting inside or out. We opted for inside. Our server was warm and friendly, bringing us water promptly. We started off with an order of beignets. It arrived with three big pieces. They were freshly fried and doused in powdered sugar. So good! My daughter ordered the chicken and waffles, while I decided to try the everything gumbo. The chicken and waffles was huge! It came with several pieces of fried chicken that was topped with freshly minced garlic and came with a homemade spicy sauce. My daughter loved it! I tried a bite and thought it was tasty as well. She ended up taking half of it home. The everything gumbo was also delicious! It was a little thin in my opinion, but the flavor was amazing! It was truly authentic and I could taste all the seafood that was in it. I finished my entire bowl! Unlike the chicken and waffle, it was appropriately sized. When I went to pay the bill, there was a sign that said "free beignets if you pay cash." So of course, I paid our bill in cash! Luckily, I had enough cash on me. Can't pass up a deal like that! All in all, it was a very enjoyable meal! If I'm ever in the area, I'd definitely go back to The Hummingbird!

Warm, hearty, and clearly made with care. The space itself is just as inviting -- warm, relaxed, and effortlessly charming. And the pastries... they looked dangerous in the best way. My "Soft Scramble" was a pile of astonishment. It was so unrefined that it was an insult the the ingredients. There was nothing soft about the eggs, they were overcooked. The only thing soft on the plate was the watery run-off from the vegetables they heaped into the eggs: Too many chewy mushrooms and HUGE. Too many cherry tomatoes. I had to dig to find the eggs. The leeks were strips of inedible ribbon. The toast? I think it had been toasted yesterday and left on the top of their oven overnight and then reused today. I had to get up from the table and ask for butter to make it edible and still I worried whether I was going to break a crown. The pickled vegetables? Again, HUGE, hard and barely pickled. I will refrain from criticizing the service because they are all unaware of the nightmare in which they are working. Bless their hearts. I was so sad and annoyed. People think they can buy a restaurant with recipes and wholesale accounts and staff and just run it, "business as usual" but they are wrong. I went in and asked if they had sold the restaurant and was told, "yes." I imagine some tech-bro's wife or some hedgefund community doodler wanted a pet project with zero idea about food or food quality or how to treat and retain employees because what happened to MHBB is astonishing. It's rude and insulting to anyone who opened this restaurant and put in their best to keep the name and claim to be catering to the same people. But then again, this is par for the course or, from my vantage point, everything wrong with what's happened in Marin in a nutshell. Faux authenticity. Zero care. This is now all about the money. I will never bother with it again.

Whatever we lacked in Korean or Ethiopian fare we made up for with an abundance of restaurants specializing in food from France and Italy. Amelie Cafe and Wine Bar continues the tradition and I'm not mad about it. With outposts in both San Francisco and New York City, Amelie sports a nice pedigree. The Fairfax location is dialed down a bit - perfect for the neighborhood it serves - and makes for a comfortable place to enjoy any meal however you might happen to appear that day. It's a simple cafe and, though not inexpensive, certainly less so than a trip to Paris. Two of us recently dined here, late afternoon on a weekend, sharing a burger ($23; comes with fries and a salad), a lager ($8; they have no IPA), and boquerones, the latter of which I fully regretted having to share. Whenever I see boquerones ($12) on a menu I cannot look away and in Marin, finding such an offering is a unicorn. Delicious; I might sneak back over solo just to enjoy them again. The burger and fries were also good, with a profile a bit different than what one would get at a non-French-centric spot. Amelie is a good place to drop in before or after a movie or a show in Fairfax and equally wonderful to pop into for a morning coffee drink or an afternoon glass of wine. It's a casual and a perfect fit for Fairfax.

But the past few visits, our orders have constantly been always mess ups, and today was honestly the last straw. How do you serve food looking like this and think it's acceptable? The quality was awful, the presentation was sloppy, and the whole meal was disappointing. When I asked for my order to be remade, they said "okay" and told me I could keep the food. So naturally, I waited assuming an entirely new order was being made... only for them to bring out ONE pancake. Seriously? What kind of customer service is that? It's frustrating because I've continuously supported this place and recommended it to others, just to be treated like this. Instead of properly accommodating a loyal customer, they handled the situation carelessly and made it seem like my complaint didn't matter at all. At this point, I honestly wouldn't recommend coming here. The service has gone downhill, the orders are constantly wrong, and management clearly doesn't care about fixing issues the right way. Completely ridiculous. Look at the before picture once I first started compared to now... like come now... absurd! Literally could've went to Denny's... smh!
