Great Mexican restaurant that's been around for ages. Finally made it in and ate a lovely meal. I had prawns in a wine sauce with garlic., rice, beans and tortillas. Had plenty of chips with two types of salsa. The tequila flowed and everyone had a great time. Go it doesn't disappoint. What I liked the most was the service . Outstanding!

Pozole! It brings a side of cilantro, Radishes, Lime, onion, and tostadas!

We stopped to get a little bite, to keep us safe. When our bodies run low on fuel, a we are in a small space with someone, we can get irritable with each hour. I had never been here before. I lobe their deco!!! Totally cool!!! We each had a Margarita. Pretty good for $7 we also gotfree chips and salsa (nothing to write home about. We had the Calamari for $7. Tasted like fresh oil on the Calamari. There were some yummy vegies, too. Now we will be able to travel to onward without screaming at eachother.

The best grilled fish tacos in Marin. I subbed rice and beans for fried plantains. I love the spicy mayo and the margaritas too!

A friend and I just went here for lunch for the first time (I have been for happy hour many times) and it was perfection on a beautiful day. We sat on the well shaded patio with my friend's dogs on leashes and had THE best service including unsolicited water for the doggies, *delicious* grilled fish tacos, steak quesadillas, plantains, and spicy margaritas. Literally, an ideal Thursday lunch break. The owner and servers treated us like friends (better than royalty). I'm so happy to have a local place like this.

Enjoyed this, sat outside. Good service. Bottle of Modelo was high at $5 but not outrageous. Dos tacos, carne asada and pollo. Yum. Chips and salsa were good.

Great place to stop right off the high way! Has indoor and patio seating! Allows pets outside! Super clean inside and out! We chose to sit outside and was greeted immediately for the table to be wiped down and menus served to us! Great menu options with a little elevated prices! We ordered fajitas and other family ordered the shrimp cocktail and tacos. The shrimp cocktail was really good just a little small for 18$ the fajitas came out literally sizzling they were served with yummy rice and beans with guacamole and sour cream on a separate dish! Everything tasted very yummy

My wife and I loved this beverage! OOH, I think I'll go back for another!

I chose the Lamb Papardelle, which was earthy and savory with gloriously wide noodles. My companions had the grilled salmon and rigatoni. Jessica, the adjacent Speakeasy restaurant manager, made my custom cake. It was amazing. She made a gluten-free, fluffy chocolate cake with fresh raspberries between the layers--slightly sweet and tangy. Soooo delicious. She added red roses to match the roses on the tables. And they honor your celebration of birthdays and anniversaries with an adorable (Scrabble) sign on your table. And those exciting candles...feel free to check out the lovely photos. What an absolutely delightful memory we made for my birthday. The service is always accessible, attentive, welcoming, and friendly. It's a cozy space, so be sure to make reservations. The ambience is so elegant--at any point, you expect a member of the Rat Pack or some performer to be dining there. They have excellent live piano music I believe on Fridays and Saturdays.

We ordered the truffle risotto and lobster bisque for the appetizers, and I thought they were both very hearty. Truffle flavor was there, and the risotto texture was great! For the entrees, we had to get the steaks. They were cooked medium-rare like we requested, and the meat was very tender. I would definitely want to come back to try a few things I've seen on their menu that weren't offered during the Valentine's Day special dinner service. Service was phenomenal and super friendly, even during the busy night. The live pianist and vibes added an extra touch to the atmosphere and made it a very pleasant dinner!

Who knew Prosecco was the perfect pairing with corned beef and herbed, salted butter (which I slathered over everything--it's not every day...it's ok!) And I asked for corn street-sized tortillas; I made corned beef tacos with roasted potatoes and al dente cooked sweet carrots. So flavorful. I didn't eat the cabbage (being Bohemian, I'm used to a different flavor). Oh but that bread pudding--and I don't usually like bread pudding. That sauce was awesome! Creamy, very flavorful maple. Wow. Paired well with black decaf coffee with cubes of raw sugar. Always welcoming staff. Excellent, varied choice of music--great rock classics and more.

We were just looking to…read morehave kind of hors d'oeuvres and a cocktail and just hang out together, because we found ourselves with a rare four-hour window where the kids were occupied and we could just do whatever we wanted. This was a nice way to spend a few hours. The space is neat. It's as small, somewhat dark ambiance with the windows blacked out. So, you do loose your sense of time a bit inside. That's actually nice as it feels like you went somewhere/somewhen else for a while. We had a Manhattan and a Kentucky Mule, and, additionally, we had three different shareable appetizers. First thought, we ordered and devoured a really exceptional cheese plate. I know cheese plates seem a little meh sometimes, but this was really good! I would absolutely order it again. In fact, I would definitely go there just to have the cheese plate again with a drink, a glass of wine. We also had the three tacos shareable. There were three tacos that were stunningly good. Lastly a dish with some little steak medallions and a shrimp. Each of these was about two bites and the flavor and texture was excellent. All three of the shareables and the drinks were exceptional. I have to call out that, with the cheese board, came a little loaf of bread. That bread was really good all on its own. I would definitely want to eat it. I can still taste it. It was really good, but my wife, she's gluten intolerant. They offered, because she couldn't eat the bread, they offered to also bring her out some gluten-free crackers, so she got to enjoy the cheese board just the same without the bread. They gave her the crackers, and do you know, they just gave her those extra. They didn't ask for something more. They didn't do anything. They just took care of her. I really appreciate that. I have to also give a shout out to the Jessica. I don't know how she did it, but she was taking care of the whole room of tables I think. Nice. We ordred all three shareables at the same time and she thoughtfully said, 'do you mind if I course these out for you?' We said yes and she did. I don't think anybody felt like they didn't have everything they needed, so a shout out to you, Jessica, really well done. We're grateful for the service and the high quality dining experience that you gave us on a moment's notice. I hope we can visit again soon. And, especially we want to check out The Boardroom soon. NOTE: This is in a kind of older looking strip mall. Don't be concerned about that at all! It threw us off a little at first and we did wonder when we pulled in though if we were in the right place. Happily, we were!

My wife called around to find that El Rey was open - and had menudo. What we didn't realize was that there was a full-on buffet-style brunch going on every Sunday from 9-2. Second, there was a HUGE buffet line with Pozole, Menudo, rice & beans, chilaquiles, sausage or eggs with chorizo, veggies, potatoes, huevos ranchero, birria, quesabirria tacos, EVEN American brunch favorites like scrambled eggs, sausage, bacon, and pancakes (but why eat those when there is AMAZING Mexican buffet to choose from?). Coffee/soda also included, and desserts including fruits and custards. I figured for sure it was upwards of $30 a head for the buffet, but the bill comes and it's like $68 for the three of us! We chose to try a new place, and El Rey caught our attention. We arrived around 7:30, and the restaurant wasn't busy since it was a Sunday evening. Looking at the menu, I was drawn to their ceviche. We decided to start with guacamole and chips, share a ceviche, and have a Quesadilla con Carne Asada. The guacamole was fresh and well-made, the ceviche was exceptionally delicious, and the quesadilla was very well prepared and tasty. Our server was very friendly and helpful with our questions, and we even shared a few good laughs. The service was excellent. El Rey has been a local spot in Novato for many years, family-owned and known for serving traditional Mexican dishes in a welcoming setting. It has built a reputation in the community as a reliable place for a hearty meal, and many locals have been coming here for decades. The restaurant is a standalone building in a shopping center and offers a large seating area. They also have an outdoor seating area, which I imagine would be especially nice on a warm evening. As a first-time visitor, I left impressed. The food, service, and relaxed atmosphere made for a very enjoyable stop on our drive. We would definitely come back again the next time we're in Novato.
