I've been coming to Mariachi Bakery in Downey almost every single day for about a year now mainly for my horchata matcha (nothing else compares, trust me). The drinks always hit, the pastries are fresh, and the staff is genuinely friendly and hardworking. I've never had a bad experience here, not once. Some of these 3-star and low reviews honestly sound off. If someone drops their drink, how is that the bakery's fault? Be real. And complaining about the taste? This is a Mexican-based bakery, tenemos sazón. The flavor, the sweetness, the vibe, that's part of what makes it special. If you can't appreciate that, maybe try baking yourself before judging. Came here for my caffeine fix on a Sunday morning. Went with the cafe de olla and caramel flan latte. They were both very good had a balance of 65/35 bitterness and sweet. Service was excellent and there is plenty of seating inside to enjoy the many pastries they sell. I got the pumpkin tres leches since we are in the season. Noticed this place and had to go. I'm not sure if it's new or if I have just missed it... Ordered a few things to try them out: Champurrado Latte, red velvet Conchita with cream cheese filling, empanada de chicharron con chile verde, and empanada de papa con chorizo. The top 2 were the chicharon empanada and the latte. This review is solely for the pan dulce sweet bread. We usually get pan Dulce around the corner ar Pomce's Bakery. The smell and the heat of the ovens and pan Dulce coming out of those ovens early morning are just amazing. My 23 year old daughter wanted to try this place so bad. Must be a social media hype thing. Is my first thought. And I am typically wrong 0.01 % of the time. So ..... We went to please her as she wanted to try the Mazapán concha's. We got a box of about 8 pan Dulce and it was over $12!!! Ok ok. So how was it Luis!!?!? Get to it. Again, this review is solely for the pan Dulce. First let me say that my expectations from going to Ponce's and getting fresh out the oven pan Dulce, hot, soft, some gooey and delicious were just shattered. This pan was all cold, old, and hard. More than likely 1 day (at least maybe longer) old bread. The taste was just OK. The coldness and hardness just takes away even more from the taste. The supposed star of the show, the Mazapán concha was you guessed it just ok. It was so hard (that's what she said). The mazapán topping flavor was spot on. Tasted just like a mazapán. However, the fact that it was so old, cold, and hard kinda ruined the whole experience. Don't think we Will ever return here for pan Dulce. The aroma of pan dulce hits your nose when you walk in, and I am embracing the smell of fresh baked goods. First time here, I was lucky we got to walk straight up to the counter to pick out breads & pastries. Unfortunately, I was not hungry so I skipped on the pastries but I was looking forward to the try the iced horchata latte which was delicious and I enjoyed every sip of it. I'm not a coffee person and I've never been here before but I got the empanada de chorizo con papa and a churro crumb cake and horchata cafe. Both were so delicious! The crumb cake was so soft and not overly sweet. The empanada was FIRE! It was so crispy and flaky and filled well. The avocado salsa was clearly made fresh. Drove by on our way to the Downey Promenade and decided to come back and try it. As a Latina who isint super into Tierra Mia I was hoping to try some drinks and pastries here. I really wanted to try their iced Caffè the olla with cold foam I've never seen it served like that anywhere else. It was sweet and strong the flavors really shined and reminded me of the times my relatives have made it at home. They have a variety of patries and savory food like burritos and empanadas. I got their empanada de tinga which is a Chipotle chicken filled empanada. It came with salsa and picked onions on the side. It was warm, flakey, and nicely filled. The salsa was so good and having the iced coffee to wash down the spice was perfect. This location is spacious with indoor seating and is nice and tidy. They tasted well but for some reason one of them weren't warmed up fully. Which I could understand if you're trying to warm two up at the same time. I came back months later to check on these flauta sized Burritos. This time I got a chance to talk to Juan the owner. And I guess the size on these burritos is here to stay. Juan explained that there is no way to make these burritos bigger. Came for their winter menu and the drinks were amazing. Placed an online order since it was a 20 minute drive for me to get there. Got the cookies and cream and the arroz con leche lattes. Unfortunately one of the bakery items I ordered wasn't available and when I came to pick up, no one mentioned anything so I was sadly disappointed when I opened the box to not find what I was looking for. Staff was friendly. I actually went inside to confirm the missing item and they did substitute it with their best option available but I didn't go for that so that was disappointing. Be aware that if you are going here based on the pictures if the food here such as the chile relleno burrito, don't bother as they don't have the items from the pictures on yelp. The day I got food from there, it was very unorganized. The pan dulce wasn't the greatest either. First time trying the new Downey Location and arrived to a busy coffee shop on a holiday Monday. The staff was friendly, both bakery and coffee shop was quick and service was exceptional. I ordered the Abuelitas Frappe that was not as sweet as it looked and I appreciated the coffee forward taste. Also ordered a Concha Rosita that was light and fluffy. I tried this spot hoping to get a taste of "home" Mexican breakfast food but I sadly wasn't impressed ): I originally wanted the chorizo burrito with egg added into the burrito but they said they were unable to modify the burrito?.. so I went with the torta that has egg, hash brown &chorizo. The hash brown still had the frozen taste to it and the egg had large peppercorns that over powered the whole torta.
