Given the name I wouldn't have expected Margeaux Supper Parlor to be open for breakfast at the weekend, but we had a great Galentine's brunch here last Saturday. We ordered the buckwheat mushroom crepe, eggs Florentine with lobster, and a pear salad. Everything came out great. The server also comped us three mini croissants that another table said they didn't order- sweet! Dining space is gorgeous, love the vintage tins on the table that are used for the sugar packets. Our server was friendly, attentive, and accommodating.

Really interesting dinner spot, one that I see myself coming back to again. Margeaux is definitely a "concept" restaurant that focuses on smaller portions of different dishes, meaning you get to try a bunch. I loved the decor, a little on the fussy rich grandma side of taste. Perfect for a brunch or Mother's Day. The menu is what you make of it, essentially - they have pre-grouped trios of dishes under Coastal, Comfort, etc., or you can mix and match if you want different proteins. I went with the lamb lollipops and the duck breast and really enjoyed the presentation, where, in addition to the meats, you also get a helping of the sides. The roasted baby potatoes with the lamb were the standout. Also enjoyed my friend's scallops with some sort of bacon butternut mash and the fried chicken pot pie. I'd say the serving size is decent. 2 of the small plates for each person worked out well for my group, though maybe we could've gone with 2-3 each. Save some room for dessert, specifically, the pistachio creme brûlée. Our waitress was wonderful; when she realized we wanted a different dessert for a birthday celebration, she took the first, slightly less wanted one off the check. Street parking along this stretch of Mass Ave is a complete sh*tshow. Your best bet is to try the large lots behind Lesley or across the street.

tl;dr great dinner spot in Porter. Cute decor, great food selection, and good service. Would come back to try the other menu items!! Target ~3 sampler plates per person. Came here for dinner date on a Saturday night. Booked a reservation online, was very easy for peak dinner hours. It's attached to the hotel but walking in definitely had a different and unique feel. Waitress was nice, walked us through the menu. They had the sampler portion as well as full entree portion. Everything sounded good so we got the sampler style: cajun meatballs, lobster and crab bisque, beef wellington, chicken pot pie, shrimp and grits, and the field and farm set. This was WAY too much food for the two of us, looking back would have dropped two. Personally, the smoked pork chop was the best. It was extra smokey, flavorful and tender. The side of gnocchi was also pretty generous and so gooey and good. Lamb chops were also tasty. We got medium but would recommend the medium rare. Of the rest, the meatball, bisque, duck were worth getting. Personally would skip the wellington and pot pie.

Margeaux feels somewhere between a swanky hotel restaurant and your rich aunt/Grandma's dining room in terms of decor, which can set you back in terms of trying to figure out what you just walked into in terms of arriving at the hostess stand. However, once you ease into the decor you quickly learn that the name actually hints to the organization and offerings of the menu. There are ways to try many of the different entrees, apps, and sides which resonates with the concept of a supper club or parlor. The downside of such a name is that many people of my generation or younger never really got to see or experience a supper club or parlor. The premise is everyone brings a dish to the location and you basically build a meal or entire evening out of what everyone brought, sometimes (and often) being very disjointed. Now, let's not hear what I'm not saying... Margeaux's doesn't feel disjointed, but it DOES have a vast array of offerings that you may not see outside of the "modern American" or whatever term they are using now for generic American cuisine. There's land, sea, vegetarian, and diet-conscious options available - sometimes without a unified theme which tends to be very unique in this day and age. As far as the food goes, we didn't have a single bad thing to say about the individual dishes. However, it is the flexibility and overall ability for you to build your own meal and the "tasting" options where you can pick any 3 entrees and make your own mini tasting meal that really separates Margeaux's from anywhere else we've been in the area. It's a really forward way to offer smaller portions and not committing to a single choice and making the meal your own, just like like you would at a supper club. Margeaux's is a new concept that is not only well executed in terms of the food and price point, but different in terms of the overall experience and type of meal than most people my age and younger have likely ever experienced. To be quite honest, being as close as we are to the location, it's an experience that I am here for when I can't really make up my mind as to what I want for dinner - because there is a little bit of everything to be had here.

We really enjoyed the dishes at Margeaux, the format really allowed us to try a bunch of different things. We ordered 7 dishes which were all pretty good and the lamb and steak tips were standouts for us. Cocktails were a bit of miss, but it was still a solid dinner. Service was attentive and the ambiance was nice. Will return to check out their brunch!

Recently dined here as a party of 9 to celebrate a birthday and this restaurant wins hands down for the most UNIQUE MENU FORMAT. There are so many different options you can order from the menu - from one of their presented collection themes (e.g., seafood only, steak only, vegetarian only, mixed meat, etc) to a regular full sized entree of any of their collection choices to a personal mix and match across any of the different themes to make your own "collection". For starters, we ordered a dozen oysters, deviled eggs, and some focaccia bread for the littles to nibble on something -- all highly recommended. Then for entrees, we all ended up ordering something different and it was well worth it. I personally went with their Coastal collection and subbed the shrimp n grits for the duck. At first I was a bit leery about ordering swordfish as it can get a bit overcooked but surprisingly, both the halibut and swordfish were tasty, cooked perfectly and the sauces were so flavorful. The duck from the Field & Farm collection was absolutely perfect. If you can order it as they suggest (medium rare), you won't regret it! While these were supposed to be tasting dishes and grouped into 3 for a complete meal, the portions were so generous that you can away with ordering just 2 and that's also an option. Folks at our table who ordered the Fork & Knife and the Field & Farm collections raved about their dishes. My daughter and mom who ordered the Comfort collection were the only ones who wished they ordered something else but only because the collections we ordered slightly overshadowed theirs. So if you are torn, here's the verdict (at least from our visit) ha ha! All in all, it was a perfect choice for us and if you have a party that likes to taste a lot of different things, this place will be a perfect choice for you as well.

I visited the restaurant with friends on a Wednesday evening. They do take reservations, but for a mid-week dinner it wasn't at all busy. The restaurant is very classy and good for a date night or special night out. We shared dishes so we could try more of the small plates, and absolutely everything we tried was delicious. The variety of meat, seafood, and vegetarian dishes also is enough to please most people. The focaccia was good and the olive oil it was served with had excellent flavor. The poached pear salad was also good. I enjoyed the pumpkin ravioli, but it was strongly flavored with a lot of warm spices, so that could be somewhat polarizing. The stuffed pepper was also amazing. The location right by the Porter square train station is extremely convenient, as well. Overall, we had a great experience, and I would gladly take people here again in the future.

Back in Cambridge to drop Sean at Tufts and invited my friend Steve at Margeaux. This is an interesting French Louisiana restaurant concept that offers an innovative and original menu. You can basically select small portions of three original dishes. I select the Lamb shops lollipop, the sea scallops and the duck. All the meats were cooked medium rare. The swordfish, and the spinach crab dish were also great dishes. They also do wine pairing. But I ordered a bottle of Bordeaux. The service was on the slow side. The side dishes were slightly overcooked for my taste. The ambiance is sophisticated French chic so definitely a decor I enjoyed. This is definitely a cool place for a casual homy cooking delighful experience. This is simply a brilliant concept-- where you can enjoy and select a collection of small entrees.. This hidden gem is a wonderful addition to Porter Sq. In Cambridge!

Fish Themed Menu But Swapped Shrimp and Grits with the Beef Wellington
    Nat B.

This was our first time trying a themed three-plate menu, and the food was incredibly delicious! We like it that we can customize our meals. We ordered the Fork & Knife meal and swapped one of the smaller plates for fried chicken. We also went with the fish-themed plate menu but swapped the shrimp & grits for Beef Wellington. The service was fantastic. Our waiter, Luan, was so sweet and patient. I only wish we had dressed a little better! We will keep in mind of the dress code the next time we visit Margeaux again!

I wish I could give this restaurant 10 stars! The food is so fresh and delicious, and beautifully plated. No matter if you go for breakfast, brunch, or dinner, you can't go wrong - chef's kiss! The service here goes above and beyond and the ambiance, my gosh, one would think you are in Paris. By far one of my favorite restaurants in Boston.

This place features a fancy interior and a cozy vibe, however, the food is just mediocre. The flavors were bland and portions were small. I got the lobster/crab bisque and the cup was only half full for $17 which was very disappointing. Value: 5/10 Food: 6/10 Service: 7.5/19 Experience: 5.5/10

    Chinese New Year Menu
    Justin S.

Friends and I decided to try the Chinese New Year Special Prix Fixe at Margeaux, with Chef Doris Huang. With advanced reservation, my party of 5 received seating immediately. The menu, at $98 / person, included the following Starters: - Scallion Pancakes - Shumai and/or Peking Ravioli (aka potstickers, can mix and match) Entree (Duck 3 ways): - Peking Duck - Fried noodles w/duck - Duck bone soup Dessert: Sweetheart cake First, the starters. The shumai had way too much powder in the filling, making it feel dry and pasty. It tasted like something you'd find at a mediocre dim sum place in Quincy - the kind where only pensioners go because it's cheap. The scallion pancake was a jaw workout. It was way too thick and tough - not flaky, just chewy and hard. It was crispy, but not the desirable pan-fried crispy, but a deep-fried crispy that only exacerbated the toughness. The service also was a mess. A server spilled a cocktail (an accident, understandable). In his attempt to correct his mistake, he spilled more, decided to get the cocktail remade, but left without cleaning the spill. I had to flag down another server to clean the table. Exacerbating the service was the arrival of the first duck entree. Or, rather, the lack of it for 45 minutes. Only after flagging down a server did the entree promptly appear. The peking duck did not have crispy skin - its defining charactertistic. It was indistinguishable from your average roast duck at the Chinese BBQ store, like Hong Kong Eatery in Chinatown. The scallion arrived artistically arranged as flowers. However, they were also as thick as 1/8" steel dowels at Home Depot. They need to be julienned you don't just taste an entire damned sprig of scallion. The other two entrees took another 75 minutes to arrive. Again, only after flagging down a server did they promptly appear. The soup was lukewarm. It was clearly sitting around, ready to serve. The noodles tasted like fried noodles with duck - nothing more special than the sort I could find at the neighborhood Thai restaurant. The portion sizes, which resembled small entrees, only added insult to injury. The sweetheart cake dessert was comparable to what I could have purchased at one of the myriad of bakeries in Chinatown for a few dollars. Overall, this has been quite far the most egregious waste of money I have encountered in recent memory. What did I expect from a French place attempting to host a Chinese dinner?

Focaccia, French onion soup, lobster bisque

Ambience is nice but a little loud by the bar. The concept is fun and the food is good but it did not wow us. We would return for a meal. The service was perfect.

Left is Fig salad, middle shrimp and grits, and on the right is the duck. All were so delicious!

The pita bread that came with it was so warm, pillowy, and chewy. This dish was just perfection. There's an eggplant dip (Oren's eggplant) in the Bay that I have been craving, and now I have something in Cambridge that is just as good if not better. The haus smoked whitefish ($12) was also quite good. It had a lot of fish but wasn't too fishy, had good flavor and came with crunchy crackers. The fish and chips ($24) was tasty as well -- the chips are really crunchy and the fish was flaky and crunchy, and the sauce was interesting and spicy. Lastly, we got the halva ice cream sundae ($12), which was pretty decent with a lot of crunchy bits. I'm not a big fan of nutty flavors or milky ice cream, so I'm not sure if I'd get it again. There is a 20% gratuity automatically applied (we had 2 people, so I don't think it's due to party size). Service was great -- people kept checking on us and refilling our water. In conclusion, the eggplant chopped not-liver was amazing and it's everything I've been looking for. I'm excited to try more of their offerings.

As an extra touch, Chef Steve came out to our table to chat and describe a few of the dishes, which made the experience feel personal. Food highlights: * Firecracker tofu - perfectly fried cubes tossed in a hot-sweet Korean-style sauce; addictive. * Grilled broccoli - smoky, well-seasoned * Butternut squash soup - smooth and flavorful, elevated by roasted, ground squash seeds and a subtle curry note. * Polenta with short ribs - rich and balanced. * Smoked bluefish pâté - excellent texture though a little salty for my taste. Drinks: * Also Fancy - bright and fruity, but not overly sweet. * St. Peter's Bay - think mezcal meets Old Fashioned. * Bonus points: I asked for a custom gin gimlet, and the bartender delivered a fresh, mint-forward version that was amazing. The dim sum portions were larger than I expected, which meant we ordered way too much food. We had the fried chicken, the cucumber salad, the shrimp, the pork wontons, the soy sauce noodles, the daikon/enoki dish (I forget the name) and the charred broccoli. There wasn't anything I didn't like, but I did find that the flavor profile seemed very similar for many of the items--it seemed like most things were topped with a generous portion of chili oil, scallions, and sesame seeds. I found that this contributed to a fairly uniform flavor experience and was getting a little weary of chili oil after several dishes. The food was also spicier than I anticipated (though to be fair, I have a low spice tolerance, so others might disagree.) I would have enjoyed some less spicy options to balance out our meal. Overall, all the food was good, though, but I think if I come back I'd get fewer items (3-4 would have been plenty for 2 people) and that might also help with everything blurring together. The service was great and our waitstaff was helpful and attentive.

I got the mango sticky rice cocktail, which was served in an ADORABLE mug. The cocktail was strong ($15) but sweet like juice, a dangerous combination.
