The food was excellent and couldn't find anything to complain about. The fuselli was superb. I wanted to try that dish as it was the reason Marea was upgraded to a two star Michelin. Shidul aka Shi our waiter was so attentive, personal and a great conversationalist. Even if the food was subpar,.which it wasn't, just having a person like Shidul waiting our table made the experience worth while. Will definitely come back with family, friends and coworkers. Highly recommend you try the prix (4 course meal) option and have it paired with there recommended wines. read more

Ordered two of the most popular dishes for dinner and both were amazing. The lobster burrata is really fresh (there's quite a bit of lobster!) and the fusilli is one of the most delicious pastas I've had - there's both octopus (super tender) and bone marrow inside, which is a unique combo I haven't seen anywhere else. Looking forward to dining at the restaurant in the future! read more

Came here for the first time. Got the four course with the raw scallops (really really tasty), octopus and bone marrow pasta (really good), the lobster (delicious but small portion) and the domori chocolate as dessert (i was in chocolate heaven). Everything was very yummy. Service was not as attentive as I expected but was good overall. Side note: I spotted Charlie Rose next to me :) read more

Best restaurant I have ever been Great price, great food, good service(super nice and much better than some good-picture taking little restaurant-I am talking about NOMO Kitchen) Best squab dish, I would eat nothing the whole day and save all my money for this dish(piccione in the menu of antipasti)(and the price is amazing) Crudo is good, love scrumbo(my friend's fav) and dentice (my favorite) Fusilli is amazing, thought me and my friend are half full, but it has the magic to push us keep eating. Ippoglosso: sides and sauce is better than fish, love this combo Dessert must go with Panna Cotta. ice crust, honey drop and soft Panna Cotta are cuckoo. The texture and temperature contrasts make it so fresh!!!!! Great to end the night ( you might want to have the tiramisu little circle thing before or during the Panna Cotta) If I live in NYC, this will be my dining hall I promise read more

The hype is real with Marea. I appreciate Michelin Stars only to a certain extent...and I've had a few Michelin disappointments in my life and Marea would be one of them. The food? It's not that special. It feels like overpriced average Italian food. I honestly think the bread selection they offer is better than a lot of their dishes. I first had their jumbo lump crab - which I think was very well done and not overpoweringly salty. But then as my entree, I had Gnocchetti. It didn't have any flavor...I couldn't even finish my dish because I felt like I was just eating plain gnocchi. I love pasta more than any other food group there is and I wanted nothing more than to love Marea's pasta. But I was just underwhelmed by my dishes and to be quite frank, by those of my friends as well. I think I would've given this restaurant a solid three stars, but what knocks it down is the peculiar service. We were seated and then nobody came to get our order for the longest time. Truly, it was 25-30 minutes. Then, when we were finished, it took another 20 minutes to find our server to get the check. Not what I expect from a place that has not only one, but TWO Michelin stars. I'd say save your money and go somewhere else. read more

One of the very few high end restaurants I could just walk in and get guaranteed good service and food. The pasta here is excellent. You can never go wrong with the fusili but I love the ravioli as well. Anyway, ask your server for recommendations and you shall not be disappointed. read more

Everything on the menu looks exquisite! We went for the prefix, I had the Polipo appetizer, scallops entrée and chocolate dessert (of course). The food melts in your mouth, portions were adequate for me, after the 3 courses my partner was still hungry though. Each meal is honestly cooked to perfection, presentations are a work of art. The central park view is pleasant, elegant environment not a t-shirt kind of place. Definitely on the top list for New York City. read more

The short review: If you can afford to- and you'd appreciate it- come here and order the pre-fixe. The long review: With its sleek decor, mellow lighting, and practically countless waitstaff, this place is fancy, though we did spy a family of tourist with shorts-clad sons in tow. We would definitely recommend this place for your next foodgasmic experience, but make your reservation far in advance. With ten-days warning my husband was only able to snag a 5:15pm dinner reservation on a Sunday. The menu displayed such a wide array of tasty options we enlisted our waitress' aid in winnowing down our choices. For a sweet cocktail she recommended the Yuzu Azzurro and the Poire Royale. Both were on point. Neither overly sweet, they were as tender as Spring. The Poire Royal, served in a champagne flute, was light and boosted its peary flavor, ending in a subtle bloom of vanilla. The Yuzu Azzurro, served in a highball, surprised because it did indeed taste like sweet yuzu, yet yuzu was NOT one of its ingredients. Of our waitress's appetizer recommendations I highly recommend the Astice. Yes, it's an additional $7 if you order the pre-fixe, but with seven large chunks of Nova Scotia lobster embedded in creamy burrata, complemented by basil seeds in pesto oil and cut by tart cherry tomatoes and pickled eggplant, what's not to love? Sop up the melty burrata with the sour dough. It's not unique, but it's a solid representation of its gluten-peers and sports the proper chew of a sour dough. For the pasta component order the Agnolotti: bite-sized wontons filled with tender pork, in a creamy asparagus sauce, contrasted with crunchy wilted spinach and topped with grated parmesan. If there was lemon in this dish I couldn't tell. Get the Olive Foccacia to finish this dish off. The simplicity of this bread allows this light sauce to continue to shine. For the Secondi go with the scallops: cooked to pillowy perfection, their tender flesh yielded easily to my fork's pressure and were beautifully complimented by a medley of morel mushrooms, porcini sauce, lambs quarters and roasted onions. This dish was also accompanied by two awesome accordions of potato pavla: thinly sliced potatoes, baked stacked together, extracted as tiny cinderblocks, then flash fried. For dessert to swoon over I recommend the crostata di ciocollito. Very professionally done, this chocolate tart came out of Betty Crocker's fetish closet. This dessert will seduce you with its almost overwhelming fixings (if anyone can such a thing of dessert), from the hazelnut gelato, to the dime-sized rounds of zabaglione, to the barely-there dark-crusted mini pool concealing a bed of crushed and candied hazelnuts beneath a dark layer of chocolate ganache. It sports a greater hazelnut flavor than a chocolate one. Overall my husband and I had so much fun here. All four of our sizable and delectable dishes possessed a level of artistry and attention that made this (at $99 for the pre-fixe) a real deal. read more

Love love love this place. Took my boyfriend here for his birthday and had the 4 course prix fixe. From the appetizers to the desserts, not one dish disappointed. Great portions as well for $102, I got full by the fusilli before I got my main course. I ordered the tagliata with some kind of bread pudding folded with bone marrow and the first bite just melted even on my almost full belly. Sometimes restaurants try too hard but Marea was just the right amount of twist to my taste. Panna cotta with balsamic?! I can't wait to go back here! read more

Terribly disappointed. I enjoy high end dining and when we travel we do it often to experience the best of what our location has to offer. I had the opportunity to choose our New York City dining experience and chose here due to reviews and Michelin rating. First, I ordered the bone marrow and octopus fusilli as so many recommended. It came out cold the first time and I had to send it back. After I did begin to dig in, I will say it was good. NOT wow knock my socks off, drool worthy great though. There are much better pasta options in the city if that is what you are craving. My boyfriend received the Parmesan Truffle Risotto special. It came out as a bland tasteless moosh. NO flavor. None. They then ask if you want Truffle sprinkled on top....which is to be expected since it is called the Parmesan TRUFFLE risotto. ****We made the best of our night with two bottles of wine but when the check came we sobered up real quick. The bland risotto was $150 dollars. That was not our total bill. It was JUST the risotto. $150 for ONE tasteless entree. Let that sink in and make reservations elsewhere. On a positive, Two stars for good service and a nice wine list. read more

Wife tells me this place has three Michelin stars. Service was fantastic and definitely was worthy of three stars, but the food while good, wouldn't have garnered a star from this reviewer. We had the lobster and bursts salad which was okay but needed some kind of seasoning. We also had the scallops salad with caviar, again okay but nothing brilliant about it. Wife had bone marrow pasta which was again good, and the sauce was nice, and I had the lump meat crab pasta which was undercooked and had no lump meat at all, just flakes really. Sauce was the highlight of the dish. Ordered the roasted halibut which was cooked perfectly and tasty, and wife had the Brodetta de Pesci, which was the best dish of the evening. Desserts were forgetful. Ambiance, service, and food preparation was great, food just didn't quite keep up. Still a nice solid choice if you're craving Italian. read more

I have been to Marea many times and the food is consistently very well executed even on a busy night like last friday. For the location the prices are much better than other well known seafood restaurants. Service is not robotic, its friendly enough without being sloppy or intrusive. The service is what you would expect from any fancy restaurant, they were on it and as attentive as you can get. But the food! Oh hohohoho the food was so yummy! My palette & stomach was dancing the whole time. I think if either of the two were subpar it would have gotten less stars but both lived and exceeded my expectations. Very impressed with the restaurant! And it wasn't as pretentious as some of the other fancy restaurants around in the city. Having been to Marea several times now, I am convinced that Marea has the best pastas and is the best overall Italian restaurant period in Manhattan. While armed with its well-deserved reputation for seafood excellence with their wonderful crudos and seafood entrees, we have found ourselves almost exclusively attracted to every available pasta selection on the menu. With their bone marrow and octopus fusilli leading the charge, one will not be disappointed in any of the other pasta choices and, in fact, we typically create our own tasting menu solely consisting of a wide array of Marea's pasta entrees. There is a reason why Marea has received 2 Michelin Stars and here's to Marea's continued Italian culinary excellence moving forward. read more

As a NYC bachelor I live out in restaurants. In the past few weeks I've eaten at Gramercy Tavern, Fig and Olive, El Parador, Park Ave Autumn and Morton's taking those into account and all other restaurants in NYC these ranks in top 3 experiences all time in my life. The best Italian I've ever had period. Forget sitting in a dining room FILLED with stars like Steven Spielberg. The food and service is why everyone's there. The prices although high are not crazy for a tasting menu like a Per Se or 11 Madison Park and it's 2 MICHELIN STARS!! Just go it's fantastic!! Great restaurant and great service. We were a group of 10 therefore had to choose our own pre fixe menu. First Course: Tuna Tartare. - It was nothing memorable however good. Dessert: I recommend these deep fried brioches with 2 kinds of dipping sauce. Overall great restaurant. read more

This would have been a five star review had it not been for the terrible attitude of the female sommelier, which I'll get to later. My husband took me here for my birthday. I was very excited to go because there were a few dishes on the menu which I'd been meaning to try for a while. We had the salad, ravioli, fusili, the steak, and desserts. All of which were delicious. The star of the night was the lamb ravioli. They were so good that we joked about having them for the next two courses, including dessert. The best pasta dish I've ever had, outside of Italy. And I've had pasta on just about every continent. The ravioli is a grand slam. Our server was nice, and the rest of the staff extremely attentive and sweet. Which is expected from Michelin star restaurants. So when I was given unwarranted attitude, and dirty looks from the female sommelier, I was shocked. I've been lucky to have eaten at some of the best restaurants in the world, and never has a member of the staff rolled their eyes, ignore me, AND had the gall to call me bitter. I was absolutely shocked. Maybe in her country it's ok to insult a customer, but it definitely is not ok in my book. Especially when the customer has told you that she's pregnant and doesn't drink. I had also told her that I'm not educated on wine and being pregnant some things can taste off and bitter. She immediately says "bitter like you?" And laughed. Seriously? What a ball of misery. She came back once after that, to speak to my husband and roll her eyes at me and walk away. Every time she made eye contact with me it was a dirty look given. And it wasn't just me. I saw her be rude and give the same ugly face to other customers. If you're so unhappy and miserable working at one of the best restaurants in the city, maybe go work at McDonalds. Maybe they'll handle that attitude better. Definitely not a Michelin level employee. read more

My two close friends and I dined outdoors with Marea yesterday evening, in their 6-8pm block. We sat along Central Park South between two ginormous space heaters, and enjoyed a leisurely dinner. Though I haven't made it a habit to dine outdoors often during the covid-19 pandemic, I respect how much effort Marea has clearly gone through to preserve a wonderful experience for its guests. Our table was warm (not an easy thing to achieve in mid-January!), the service was impeccable, and the ambience was truly lovely. Yes, there were people walking past our table from the general public, but what do you expect from city thoroughfare? We each ordered the "Apres Ski" menu, and added a shared appetizer (crudo), side (carrots), drinks (mostly wine, plus a non-alcoholic cocktail), and dessert (tiramisu and gelato). Indulgent and, we thought, overdue! - we hadn't dined together in months and we felt very lucky to do so in a somewhat safe environment. The reason this isn't a five-star review is simply because the prices are genuinely astronomical - not saying that the food isn't sublime, but it's always a bit of a sticker shock when each person comes out to nearly $200. Still - a rare chance to be with friends over a meal - we happily took it. Thank you, Marea! read more

Went with a friend for a weekday night dinner and shared all our dishes. Everything we had was really delicious, but if I were to nitpick: Ricci: Uni + lardo on crostini. Delicous, rich, creamy, perfect 2 bites. Crudo trio: by recommendation of the waiter - Snapper, Branzino, Tuna. Branzino was my favorite, then snapper, then tuna. Astice: Lobster, burrata, eggplant, basil - probably my favorite thing that I ate. Lobster was cooked and seasoned perfectly Fusili: with bone marrow and octopus. This is a filling dish. The pasta was perfectly cooked. However, it was on the saltier end, which normally is not a problem for me, but I had a hard time finishing it. I've had this before in a previous visit and was not being able to finish it then either. Quadrotti: little corn stuffed ravioli type pasta and mixed with chanterelles and herbs. I never thought I'd say this about a vegetarian dish, but I think I enjoyed this better than the Fusili. The corn was just so sweet and the sauce perfectly matched. I would definitely order this as my pasta dish next time. Bamboloni: blueberry dessert with honey and lemon curd on the side. Fried dough with sugar and sauce. Enough said. read more

A 2-course meal at a 2-starred Michelin restaurant for only $52? Seems 2 good 2 be true. All bad puns aside, this was one of the finest Italian meals I've had in the city. The service is swift and impeccable, the atmosphere is elegant yet cozy with intimately arranged white-cloth tables, and the food, needless to say, is absolutely heavenly. Each prix fixe lunch comes with your selection of a primi (crudi or antipasti) and secondi (pasta or pesce/carne). For my primi I selected the Dentice (raw pacific snapper, lime, coriander, crispy skin) and my friend had the Granchio antipasto (jumbo lump crab, brown butter, fennel aioli, whole grain toast, lovage). The Dentice was fresh and had a nice, smooth texture that contrasted nicely with the small sliver of crispy skin that gave it a satisfying crackle when biting into each piece. The lime and coriander garnish added a pleasant zest. The aioli on the Granchio was extremely flavorful but mysteriously came with arugula (not mentioned on the menu. As you eat, a waiter with an enormous basket of warm, freshly baked bread walks around ensuring that nobody's bread plate remains empty. There are three varieties: a standard sourdough, a dense seven-grain, and a slightly oily but delicious olive focaccia. There is olive oil on the table as well, which I would only recommend if you selected either the sourdough or the seven-grain; the focaccia doesn't need it, and is flavorful enough on its own. For the secondi, I ordered the highly-praised durum wheat fusilli with red wine braised octopus and soft chunks of bone marrow. It came out hot but not enough to burn my mouth as I took an eager first bite. Absolutely dreamy. The pasta was the epitome of al dente, with a pleasant chew and perfect curls that held the precious red sauce in a perfect ratio. The octopus was tender and fresh, even more so than the ones I've had in Portugal! The most genius element to this dish, however, was the decadent, melt-in-your-mouth chunks of bone marrow that imbued the sauce with an intense richness. Pasta perfection. My friend's Tagliata (creekstone farms sirloin, bone marrow panzanella, and braised romaine) was quite tasty as well, although nothing compared to the pasta. The sirloin was cooked to a perfect medium rare as requested and had a nice balsamic reduction and the panzanella (Tuscan bread salad) was a bit greasy. If you can't decide between a meat dish or a pasta dish, I would recommend sticking with pasta or seafood, as those are what Marea is known for. By the time dessert rolled around we were both quite stuffed so we simply asked for the check. Two small complimentary sweets (a soft raspberry jelly and tiny tart with some kind of jam) were served, which helped get the heavy richness of our meal off our tongues. The total per person ended up being around $70 with tip and tax included. If you're looking for fresh, high-quality Italian food with an exquisite attention to even the subtlest of flavors, I strongly recommend a visit to Marea! read more

I must say I was a little disappointed with this restaurant. The atmosphere in the alcove dining room just past the bar was too bright and seemed to be the secondary seating area. We ordered the two most popular plates offered. One reminded us of ramen noodles and the other of chef boy r you know the rest. We were well dressed with a jacket, dresses and heels...way overdressed. Everyone around us were wearing shorts, t-shirts and a little sweaty. We had a recommendation from a friend plus the whole Michelin thing...BS is all I can say. The sommelier seemed distracted and bored. Our waiter was ok but was trying too hard to make up for the restaurants shortcomings. I wouldn't recommend this restaurant. read more
