What a delightful way to late lunch with family on the patio. Our server was excellent. This place will be THE place to be in LaGrange after the Covid passes. Nice bar, large dining space. The menu has tasty salads, sandwiches, big plates, appetizers, local draft beers. The sandwiches come with fries (terrific, hand-cut) but they'll substitute salad (Greek, chef or Caesar) if you prefer. Food is good, reasonably priced; fun atmosphere; convenient in town. As an out-of-towner, this fantastic café/bistro had three very fine offerings on the menu tonight: Lamb ribs. Best I've ever had. Crab cakes. Daughter Lily says, best she's ever had. And equal compliments to the remoulade. Buffalo quesadillas. Son Walker gave these very high marks Complete disclosure: this place is run by Chase and Charles Howard, cousins of mine. Came here two nights in a row because it was so good. Vodka Penne with chicken is the way to go. They have a great selection of local brews too, if you are into craft beer. Let me start by saying this one thing: no salt, pepper or extra seasoning needed!! Every dish is perfectly seasoned and the portions are large. We had a party of five and each of us ordered something different, each dish was amazing! I ordered the filet, it came with mashed potatoes and green beans, I was the first one to devour my plate and I felt no shame whatsoever!! Our server, Hamilton, was very friendly but not intrusion. The food was fantastic. I had the Greek flatbread and a blueberry martini. My husband had the burger with the foie gras and the pork rinds. We were looking for something different and this place hit the mark. The atmosphere is warm and inviting. But the food (from start to finish) will have us coming back. The lone young waitress was very nice and pleasant; beer flights enjoyable and being the only folks there for a 3p.m. reservation was kinda cool. Apparently they changed hours after we made reservations but still honored it for Valentine's Day. The Greek flatbread was delicious. The low rating, sadly, is for the entrees. Had HIGH expectations for the trout as we'd had it when first were there and it was delicious. It was swimming -- no drowning -- in oil/butter as were the rice, greens under it. It was puddled up to the edge of the plate. It did not taste like trout, simply some white fish. I hope that wasn't the case, but seriously all we could taste was the greasiness of everything. 100% should have sent it back...or at least taken a picture to show readers what it looked like. Really bummed we didn't. It was SO BAD. We opted to prop one side of the plate up with a napkin so the oil/butter would run to one side and picked out a few edible bites. We asked the waitress if she thought the oil-filled trout plate looked good, she shook her head no. Asked her to take our 'finished' plate to show chef. She returned 5-10 minutes later with lava cake, but didn't say anything about what chef said. We asked. She said, he said it was butter (we thought it was EVOO) and he apologized...that was it. Spent the evening/night with a bad stomach reaction after eating the food. The fish and chips were passable, nothing special. The chocolate lava cake, presented well, but was very dry and the chocolate solid. No lava running here. Tasted like it was leftover from another day and frozen or refrigerated. read more

We love the variety of fresh, locally-sourced, food that Mare Sol offers. The martinis never disappoint, either. Some favorites include the pimiento cheese appetizer, the pork skins, and the Cobb salad. I enjoy the salmon entree for dinner. read more

This restaurant was in the old location for Tulla's, which was a great place back in 2008 when we last visited. My husband and I were in town for a wedding and decided to give this new place a try. We saw that they had a Tapas menu and were very excited to try a few dishes. We ordered the Southwest Chicken spring rolls, the vegetable platter and the cheese plate. We also ordered a bottle of wine (their selection was limiteed to 4 reds and 5 whites). After a very long wait, the food arrived along with the bottle of wine. The cheese plate was no better than what you can buy in your local convenience store. The so-called spring roll was basically a flour tortilla that looked like it was frozen and then heated up. The vegetable platter - well, I wish I had taken a photo - it was so unappetizing. The biggest complaint we have is that the food was bland and tasteless. The service was very slow and not very friendly. I will admit it was a Friday night and crowded with families. Perhaps this place is better suited to pizzas and hamburgers (also on their menu), but we were scared to try anything else. read more

A group of idealists are trying to bring a higher quality of food and a better dining experience to LaGrange. That shouldn't be too hard, since the vast majority of places to eat in this town are fast food or corporate chain restaurants. Just stick to the basics. I was very impressed with the trendy atmosphere and general layout at Mare Sol. I also liked their beer and wine choices. The service was prompt and polite, and the menu is a careful mix of old favorites for the pickier eaters and some new things to try for the more adventurous. They seem to want to steer you towards the tapas and the pizza (both are very decent), but also do a daily special (which you should ALWAYS get). There are some good things going on here, just not many bold things going on. But this town isn't really ready for bold food, in my opinion. Mare Sol is giving them some options to explore, though. read more

Well worth the drive from Columbus, Georgia up to La Grange. This restaurant has a diner vibe, although we love to sit at the bar and enjoy our food. Their menu is fantastic with specials regularly. We love Jen, our friendly bartender and server-one of the hardest workers we have ever met! The food is DELICIOUS!! The appetizers, sides and main course items are so good we have trouble deciding which one to choose when we eat there. We are regulars now and look forward. to going. They have great service with drinks and great food you can't go wrong with that! read more

Meh...was not wild about this place. The food was ok, nothing standout. Our server was terrible...his appearances at the table were few and far in between. The only saving grace was a female server that checked in on us several times and seemed to light a fire under him to do his job. I got the Greek salad and was pretty neutral about it. My boss got the Penne Vodka and thought it was just alright - it was spicy without warning. We dined here simply because we were in the area, but next time I'm out this way I will be giving a different establishment my business. read more

Very good find on Main St. in LaGrange. The girl at the brewery up the street recommended it. Nice menu that leans toward Italian, but offers a variety of other choices. Outstanding beef stroganoff with very tender steak tips, with a red wine mushroom sauce with carmelized onions that is rich and full of flavor. All that was on top of freshly made pasta on a daily basis.The tomato basil bisque soup is full of flavors and lovely texture of real tomatoes, garlic and shallots that you won't find at most restaurants . The fresh basil on top really adds to the flavor. And now for a slice of peach pie ala mode. read more

This place was amazing. The atmosphere was amazing! The food was amazing! The prices were good for the quality of food that you get. Who would have thought that such a wonderful gem could be found in downtown LaGrange. I felt like I was at a hip spot in Atlanta. I had the stuffed mushrooms and the greek salad and didn't regret my choice at all. I'm giving this 3 stars simply due to service. I sat at the bar, and was spoken to three times. Not even when I first entered as I stared around wondering where a hostess was. Once to order, after waiting 15 minutes while many girls walked by, once when my food came and then finally to receive a check after I had finished eating about 20 minutes ago. It's a free for all in there. This is an area they need to work on. The food was good, not over the top, but satisfying. Such a cute, quaint town and place and I was disappointed after hearing good things. After speaking to some people today, they all agreed the on the service aspect. Since I travel here for work, I'll give it another try. But if it continues, your management should step in. read more

Everything we sampled was stellar and appreciated the wait staff timing the main course until we had time to chat and consume the appetizers. Visited Mar Sol on the day of the local college's graduation, so it was busy. Service and wait times were still good though. Noise level of the music and the crowded room made it difficult to hold a conversation though. We sampled several of the tapas... Spinach and artichoke dip, Moroccan chicken wings, pork rinds, and Crawfish. All of them were ok. The cook was good, but lacking seasoning. While we didn't hate Mar Sol, we didn't love it either. read more

When we arrived after so many doors the entrance was very unclear and it was a few minutes before we were greeted. We did not learn about the specials or the wine list until we asked for it. We always start with a few of the appetizers then move to the salad before we order an entree. After traveling from the auburn area we had high expectations. The fried ravioli and the fried Brie had a great potential with poor results. The oil they were fried in was old and had a rancid flavors. The wedge salad was not much better. The lettuce was brown and limp. We decided then we would not order any entrees and find another restaurant to enjoy and spend our money. I will make sure everyone I know what to expect from this place. Do not eat here you will be very disappointed!!! read more
