Wow, just wow. This spot is a gem. Classy rooftop bar with high end finishes. Lots of tables to watch the sunset and a tall heat lamp kept the chill out of the air. Wood fire pizza at the bar and some nice mixed drinks. Outdoor tables are on two sides of the enclosed restaurant. Lots of waitstaff helped quickly dry everything off after a quick evening shower. Hosts, bartenders and servers were all very nice and knowledgeable. Great spot!! read more

Rooftop restaurant modern and open rooftop and walls all windows, which was nice even in the rain. Service excellent by Alex. We were nine of us celebrating an Engagement: Appetizer was raw Oysters and they were very good. Meals were all excellent seafood Diablo, swordfish, sirloin, lamb special, the sea scallops ere excellent in taste but only received 4, so my husband left hungry. Sea scallops were also small on top of polenta, no taste. champagne was great and we had five different desserts and all were very tasty. Only negative that night was the loud voices from an event , we could barely hear each other. So we will go again for a special occasion for it is pricey for us. read more

Terrific space on top of building but badly designed for sound absorption. All hard surfaces. Staff seemed overwhelmed and under skilled. Food is pricey by Providence standards and doesn't live up to its price. Caesar salad was very unappetizing with quartered chunks of salad that required a proper knife to cut through. A poached egg was a nice touch but the Parmesan cheese was spartan and the dressing was too skimpy to help this dish be more tasteful. Crab cakes were decent. Swordfish was unusually thin and on the dry side. Next time, we would come for a drink (which were reasonably priced) and enjoy it on the terrace. We will have dinner at another local restaurant. This restaurant is newly opened. Perhaps the food and service will be better once they get the kinks out. read more

Very nice rooftop restaurant in Wayland square. Modern and spacious interior. Lots of tables. Most likely you will find a table even if you do not make a reservation. Great seafood appetizers and salads. I had cured salmon and crabcakes along with a bottle of Malbec and everything was fantastic. A bit repetitive but good dance music, fun atmosphere. Great views & decor. Had been dying to dine here & it was a disappointment. Drinks, nothing special. Bread & oil, blahhh. Crab cake appetizer while cooked perfectly lacked flavor. We both saw the strip loin go out and decided to get that. Presentation was beautiful but my excitement stopped there. Steak was devoid of any flavor & slightly undercooked. Mashed potatoes also had zero flavor. I don't think the chef used seasoning on anything. The best thing on the plate was the ricotta(I think) for the UNDERcooked broccolini. I wouldn't go back. My left over steak was great when I cooked it myself with eggs the next morning. read more

Came here for dinner tonight and was pleasantly surprised. I've been hearing great things about this place but wasn't sure if it was just hype because of the location. Everything from the service, the atmosphere and most importantly the food was excellent. I was there with a group of 4 and two of us had the scallops and the other two had the swordfish. Service was terrible. Went there last night, sat there for 25 minutes. No one came to our table, not even to fill the water glasses.The waitresses all actively avoided making eye contact as they walked by to tend to other tables. Four waiters stood around behind us chatting with a couple customers sitting at the bar for most of the time. Eventually we flagged down the manager who apologized, took our drink order and said the waitress would be by shortly. We saw a waitress peek around the corner at us but then ducked back and never came out. The manager brought the drinks which were horrible and undrinkable and asked if they had taken our order. No one had even filled the water glasses. More apologies and eventually the waiter who had been chit chatting behind us the whole time filled the glasses without a word. He came back a few minutes later and said there was a "miscommunication" and wanted to know what we wanted to order. At that point we had only taken one sip of the drinks because they were so bad so we said we didn't want anything and walked out. I can't imagine the service would get any better after that. The only bright side was when we walked out we saw a sushi place across the street that had amazing sushi. The bill there was less than half what we would have paid at Mare. Never again. read more

This is one of the worst dinner's I have had in years, maybe ever. We waited 45 minutes for a drink order to be put in then had fruit flies in 3 different drinks. Once our meals came, the scallops looked like charcoal and the Mac and cheese was stale and hard. We were originally told the poorly cooked meals would be taken off the bill, even though we did not request this (we just wanted the food to be cooked correctly), then the manager told us that we would be compensated for 60% instead, once the bill came to the table. We asked about the bill charges since we were doubled charged for one of the entrees and the manager argued with us. Do not waste your time here. read more

Mare is a beautiful spot to dine in nice weather! It's gorgeous and airy and you get great views of the city! A roof top restaurant has been a wonderful addition to Providence and hope more follow. Staff was polite and attentive and my speciality cocktail was fruity and delicious. So, why only three stars? My lobster salad was a disaster! It looked like unappealing green mush and didn't taste any better. Whatever basil dressing that covered the whole thing turned the croutons soggy and dominated all taste including the three bites of lobster (one distinctly undercooked). Mare, lobster salad is a great idea, but please start over with a new recipe! I want to love your restaurant! read more

Today I visited Mare for the first time. Being a Massachusetts resident & native, Mare is only 25 minutes from my doorstep. I couldn't believe I hadn't heard of this gem before today. Typically when a restaurant or bar has rooftop in the name, good time is typically synonymous. Today was no less of an exception than ever there has been. The 1st floor lobby entrance to the building is chiq and upscale with black furnishings and a design that streams modern stylish corporate. Once you exit the elevator to the rooftop level, you're greeted by an amazing sneak peak at a portion of the restaurant to your right, with a waiting area to your left that will generate a cliffs edge view of the ground below. Once seated, I ordered the smoked tomato soup. Let me tell you, it was the best I've had. Rather than the usual over salted remnants of tomato soup past, from other establishments, this option played out as so: sweet then savory then creamy and finishes with the most subtle nip at your tongue in the form of a perfect amount spice that made you simply remember not to forget about it was there. I had the fusilli pasta Primavera. If you're a mushroom lover like myself, get ready for a pleasant experience. It was such a well rounded, flavorful combination of earthiness, cruch with the occasional savory kick from the sundried tomato add on. I tasted a few different mushroom varieties, even including the elusive chanterelle mushroom! After 2 glasses of red wine, I barely had room for more than 2 bites of what tasted like a mocha based Creme Brule! I'm already ecstatic about returning for a go at some of the brick oven pizza than I desperately wanted to try too. Long live Mare!! Oh and by the way, phenomenal service from the staff and manager alike! My biggest regrets were forgetting to take photos of the food and not saving leftovers for later in the night. read more

Went with a friend this past Saturday night. The space is beautiful, the outside wraps around the entire top of the building and the ceiling is glass, so when you're inside, it still brings that atmosphere into the rest of the restaurant. Everyone was friendly, our server was nice but you could tell a bit nervous or maybe inexperienced. The meal was okay...I feel because they just opened, they still need to work out the kinks. Our cocktails were not that great and the food was a bit under seasoned for my taste. It was not bad by any means, just needs work. My friend and I had a great experience at Mare Rooftop, starting with the most delicious Butternut Squash Bisque I have ever had and ending with a fantastic cocktail crafted by Nick. The soup was so satisfying that my friend and I decided to skip entrees (which was not an easy decision because they had so many great options to choose from) and opted for an amazing meatball and eggplant pizza. The vibe in Mare was very warm and cozy. I am looking forward to going back. I'm excited to see what new entrees and cocktails the very talented team at Mare come up with next. 1st time, drinks and dinner on Friday night Right now, they are not taking reservations. We got there around 7:45 on Friday night and they said it was a 1 hour wait but it did not take that long. We waiting on the outside deck, eventually getting a seat on the couches. We first got drinks at the bar and brought them to our seats when we were lucky to get one. Then we ordered 2 apps to have while we waited. Meatballs (3) and hummus/pita plate. These were good. I was not happy about the Cider choice as this is my go-to drink right now. Only Angry Orchard which is not very good. I was happy we got an outside table. It was a nice night with a beautiful moon to look at. Service was excellent. They need to step up the food flavors. We had a pizza and pasta combo and i did not think the spicing was great. I think if they want the older crowd to return for dinner, again, they need to fix. I went there for my birthday dinner with my family and we were all very hungry after working all day and we were looking forward for a great meal and were disappointed. Luckily we got a couple pizza's to share for an appetizer which were ok, I've had better pizza in providence. Very small portions on our dinners for the price. Nothing to brag about or rush back too. Friday, happy hour approaching and I have contacted 43 and 75 to meet me at this new joint called Mare Rooftop Bar. As rooftop drinking is rare in and around this area this place caught my attention. 43 and i got there first and sat at the bar and were immediately intrigued by the two sided open to the air dining area. a nice breeze was coming in from the harbor side and the atmosphere for imbibing was just right. The drinks were cold and tasty. i had a Captain rocks with a splash of ginger and 43 went Bombay Sapphire and tonic. i wanted that too but im still banned from drinking gin by the Humane Society After a couple drinks and some shenanigans by 75 we moved outside to one the several couches looking down to foxpoint park. Great view, great drinks. Crowd began picking up. Good looking people from 21-35 plus us and some older folks. needs some music. High tops are a popular seat on the harbor side and their are tables for dining on the northside facing wayland square. Got around to eating and the three of us were happy with the shellfish tower, some octopus (my first time and when i tell you it is NOT the flavor you are expecting) which was great and a few olives and nuts. Food was good but we didnt really eat so ill hold off on the dinner review. Our waiter Caleb was very attentive and also a good sport and tolerated us up until he cut us off and even then was nice about it. Good kid. Mare has only been open a couple months so there is bound to be somekind of a learning curve (the menus need to be attached to something. they blow around in the breeze) but it is a great looking bar and atmosphere. Great location and very good food. However, staff, total lack of service and high prices should keep you away. Went to the rooftop bar, sat outside on sofas with two friends, no one wanted to wait on us (after being told we needed to wait for a waiter), bar staff were prickly, and once we were given our food, no utensils. Worst part is, due to the lack of service we did not tip (I never do this but I had had enough). I just saw on my CC that I was charged an additional charge- which I am guessing is their "tip." My friend and I dined at Mare for the first time on New Years Eve and it did not disappoint. The food, service, and atmosphere were all incredible! We started with a buratta appetizer which was better than any other I've had at other locations throughout the city. The filet mignon was perfectly cooked, which maintained the exceptional texture of the cut and maximized focus on the flavor profile. The finishing touch was the dessert, which was decadent both in taste and presentation!!! The well designed, contemporaneous architecture added to the experience, as did our flawless server, Alexandra. The whole staff was very kind, including manager Victoria who was sure to wish us a happy new year. The Decor is airy, comfortable and open. The food was excellent and decently priced. I had the calamari (perfectly cooked, tender and crisp), my daughter had the oysters, my sister had the clams Zuppa (big slices of linguica, robust tomato sauce and sweet tender clams). My wife and I visited Mare Rooftop for the first time on Friday night. The place was visually gorgeous. Very modern décor and quite stunning. Whoever put it together did a terrific job. The outdoor seating has a marvelous view of the surrounding area but we chose to sit inside which, as it turns out, may have been a mistake. The one thing that stands out for me (and my wife) about this restaurant is the noise level inside. Very, very loud. As far as I could tell the volume was caused by people merely talking. I've never been in a place that had that much noise by diners just conversing. It was a little difficult for my wife and I to hear each other. The food & service were good. I had a breaded chicken dish that was a bit dry and my wife had Baked Gnocchetti, which she enjoyed. Not sure if we'll go back to eat inside. read more

He was kind and even offered me to taste two different wines to decide which would pair well with my filet. Victoria, the manager, was beyond incredible! She was very professional and checked in on my friend and I to make sure we were having the best time! I My friend and I decided to do the restaurant week menu and the burrata and filet were both tasteful in flavor and met my expectations.
