Took our 13 year old here for her birthday, it was a place she'd been wanting to go for a few years now. We rented the rooftop igloo and it was a complete waste of money, unfortunately the only scenery until it gets dark are dirty parking lots but that's our fault for booking an earlier time. Another issue is that the igloos are secured with loud zippers that have to be zipped and unzipped every time your waitress comes to assist you which in these months brings an incredibly cold draft In repetitively and brings whatever conversation is being had to an abrupt halt. Definitely dress for the outdoors even though for the most part you will be somewhat warm due to the small space heaters in the igloo. As for the food, the apps were great. We had the grilled octopus and the lobster crostini, both cooked to perfection and tasted amazing. That was the highlight of the meal. For the main course I got the steak with mashed potatoes and green beans and the green beans were the stand out. The steak was a basic steak, cooked to perfection but lacking any real flavor and the mashed potatoes were just bland mashed potatoes. The meal wasn't bad by any means but absolutely not worth the prices of dining at this establishment. All in all I'd probably pass on a second visit, the igloos are severely over rated and the food isn't anything to go crazy over. Also, our waitress (either an Olivia or Sophia if I remember correctly) added an extra meal to our bill that we luckily noticed before putting our card down. Lastly, when we arrived there was nobody in the lobby and we sat there waiting for direction until I eventually called and they instructed us to take the elevator upstairs, maybe make directions for first time visitors a little more clear as it's not a typical walk in restaurant. We paid over $350 for a mediocre lunch, the igloos were an interesting idea but ultimately they just seem like a way to cram extra customers in a tight space outside to get extra business. A sophisticated rooftop restaurant. We came here for dinner on a Wednesday evening without reservations. Valet parking is available and a nice size parking lot across from the restaurant. The entrance is next to the Verizon store. A friendly staff member sits downstairs when you 1st enter to assist you on where to go. Take the elevator all the way to the roof. Once off the elevator we are welcomed by a hostess and a lively crowd. We were asked if we would like to sit outside or in. We chose outside. We were sat at an intimate table for two overlooking the Eastside of the city and beyond. The restaurant has a very large bar inside and outside with a lounge like area around all around the bar. Hightop tables and plenty of room at the bar too. We sat on the opposite side outside. Service was excellent and prompt! The music, mostly Michael Jackson and some 80's tunes were playing & was perfect. I liked the mix of people, I wasn't the oldest but I wasn't the youngest. The menu surprised me with a snack section before the appetizers, I loved it so much we started with three snacks! Fries, hummus and crostinis. The fries and hummus were great. We ordered the gnocchi and seafood pasta for dinner and we were in the clean plate club! What a fun restaurant but even better because the food was delicious! read more

Went to Mare for dinner with coworkers... I was surprised by how popular and busy it was on a cold October evening! The space is indeed beautiful and it's an interesting addition to Wayland Sq Now onto the food.. I had the grilled octopus as an appetizer and it was delicious! I wasn't that hungry so for my entree, I chose the Caesar salad with grilled chicken on top because the description included white anchovies and coddled eggs. This $21 salad came and it's pretty but the chicken was so dry... but the worst part is that they did not make it with the traditional dressing and instead used something that tasted store bought! If I'm paying $21 for a Caesar salad, I expect the whole shebang! Give me the smooth raw egg yolk dressing, the salty anchovies, and the garlic! It should not be white and lumpy and taste like dressing from a supermarket aisle!!! (I take food veerrry seriously) So I would definitely go back on a warm summer night for drinks.. as for the food, I would probably give them another chance since I should've ordered a seafood entree as their name suggests. Went for late night drinks. Was ok. Not as much outside area as, say, Gpub. It's more like an open air restaurant than a bar. Service wasn't great. Bartender got quite a few drinks wrong. Also took forever to request a cocktail menu. For only a week and a half being open it was an overall decent experience. It is certainly a fresh and welcomed new perspective for the restaurant scene on the east side of providence. Atmosphere of the restaurant is modern and clean with sweeping views of the surrounding areas of providence from almost every seat in the restaurant. The good; menu options are abundant and thoughtfully created with inventive takes on classics. Presentation far surpasses any other restaurant in the area and dishes are well executed in taste. Unfortunately, there are more "ok" parts of the restaurant then the good, but I confidently believe it is just the "kinks" that need to work out. The "ok"; Cocktails off menu such as a classic Manhattan were subpar. I think they need to put as much effort in the classic cocktails as they do with menu options and the food preparation. Service was interesting. Caleb was our order taker but there were about 3 other people that touched our table filling glasses or clearing plates. Caleb used an iPad type device that he took the order on which seemed to make the experience more transactional then personal. If I wanted to have someone type in an order I could go to McDonald's. The use of the device seemed to hinder the time to place the order as he had to locate items in the system and then ask the next person what they wanted. If you modified your dish or drink it took longer. All in all Caleb did a good job and was attentive. My one criticism that I would have to point out is the fact that it's a new restaurant. Not one person from start to finish asked if it was our first time or what we thought of our experience. The manager who happened to walk past our table at least 7 times didn't once stop over and introduce himself or check in on the table. When we left, not one of the 3 hostesses stopped their conversation to say thank you or come again. It wasn't until I got to valet (which is a 3rd party) who asked about our dinner and what we thought. I will certainly give them another try, however I won't be rushing back right away. The food is great, and service is good, but to compete with other east side restaurants that deliver decent food and exceptional service, something other then the roof top views will need to set them apart. read more

Beautiful views, even from inside the restaurant. Everything is glass (even the roof!) so it's a 360 view no matter where you sit. The server was a bit slow to come over for orders (they brought ice and bread right away) but once we told them we had theater tickets they were able to pick it up and have us out the door right on time. Food was divine, I'm still craving the spinach tagliatelle again and my family also loved their scallops and filet mignon. I can't wait to go back and try and sit outside and enjoy appetizers and a drink when I don't have time constraints. My only feedback would be we were a bit confused upon entering as there's a desk with a sign saying the attendant stepped out. We weren't sure if we could just go up the elevator and nobody came back so we did and it was fine, the hostess was right there. Really, very minor issue. read more

We went on to get the scallop and gnocchi dish which came with large scallops that had a nice sear on them but the sauce was oily and the gnocchi was gummy. Was super excited to try the mare cioppino my boyfriend and I are both big seafood fans and the description sounded delicious unfortunately every kind of seafood in the dish was over cooked and the sauce had no element of flavor what so ever. It's sad when you order a dish like that and the crostini that came with it is better then the actual dish. The restaurant itself is beautiful and clean, the staff was super attentive but we won't bother going back to eat here. read more

A wonderful, romantic evening at Mare on the Fourth of July! I made a reservation on Open Table at the high tops for two with no problem. When we first walked in we were greeted by two lovely hostesses at the desk (one of whom later took a fabulous picture of me and my date). I was surprised that when we asked for outdoor seating, we were not led to the high tops as I had requested on Open table, but I was still pleased because our table felt private and we had a lovely view. We adapted quickly and enjoyed the gorgeous boho chic plant forward aesthetic. The sun did get a bit strong on the left side of the restaurant and the view is a bit better on the right side, but honestly you cannot go wrong seated anywhere at this place! Justin was our server and he did an excellent job of commanding the table and the service for the evening. Clearly a professional! He was discrete in cleaning our table, always had our water glasses full, and really worked with our requests. I ordered the crime of passion which was delicious but a little too sweet. I tried ordering something a bit spicier with mezcal off menu but was underwhelmed by the bartenders creativity. Fortunately, Justin was very patient and accommodating when I opted for a glass of Whisperjng Angel. We started with the octopus which was absolutely delicious, tender, and very well cooked. Next we had the crab cake special which was light and flavorful. The corn and tomato salad added a nice layer of freshness! Next, we had the swordfish, which Justin recommended. I am so glad we stuck to the seafood. The swordfish was to die for! The mango chutney and broccolini combination was a delight and paired nicely with the rose. We followed dinner with a tiramisu and enjoyed every last bite!! The portion sizes were comfortable for sharing and I was certainly full following the our main course. Justin was delightful, swift and stealthy the whole evening. In fact the whole staff was rather attentive! Just once our course came without share plates and I asked another server for side plates. She responded very politely and swiftly returned so that we could begin our meal. One busboy did ask if we wanted to keep our silverware and if we wanted more water. While I didn't mind, it did clash with the ambience and effort Justin had put forth into providing a discrete, top notch dining experience. The good: Amazing views on both sides of the restaurant. This place is an awesome addition to the neighborhood. The tuna crudo is legit - an absolute must for an appetizer. My second favorite app is the clam Zappa. Totally hits the spot for summer time snacks. The OK: Pastas are super yummy. Gnocchi is house - made and the other choices are local. The not-so-good: sauce on the margarita pizza was a little too puréed and lacked flavor. Short rib needed salt desperately - and there was none on the table. Scallops sounded like they would be amazing but the bean and corn garnish should have been cold and fresh not warm and flavorless. All in all this place is a beautiful spot with an awesome drink menu, wines by the glass in either 6oz or 9oz and the service is super nice. I absolutely love this restaurant. Always have a great experience. But tonight was a different story and it was my birthday. We rented an igloo 2 months in advance and paid a 100$ credit/reservation. When we arrived, I mentioned we had an igloo and they mentioned they have been taken down already. When the 100$ credit was mentioned, they were unaware and had to "look it up". Huge complaint that they never contacted igloo reservations to let them know that the igloos were removed and they would be dining with everyone else, inside. My mom tried really hard to make my birthday dinner special in an igloo, we could have gone to Hucks in EG (absolutely gorgeous fyi) for that experience if they had let us know or made an effort to contact their guests that made prior igloo reservations. To end the night, a hostess came up to us, right after getting drinks served saying so many people were waiting for our table and we had to move on. Since we just got drinks, we moved to the bar and witnessed our table never seated the reminder of our stay. It's beyond disrespectful the way they asked us to leave our table for other guests, that no one to sit at. Extremely disappointed. Absolutely love the atmosphere and drinks. It's about five stories about so you get pretty sweeping views -- however on one side, it was a bit disappointing when I looked down and saw a parking lot. I had three apps -- the crabcakes, clams in a tomato sauce and meatballs. They were all good. I had the swordfish, which was perfectly cooked. My companion had a steak and really liked it. The desserts were just OK. The place was pretty packed and had a nice ambience. Some people were pretty dressed up while others looked very basic, so there didn't seem to be a dress code. read more

Came for a visit to celebrate someone's birthday, and I was pleasantly surprised. The view of the city was quite nice. The food was definitely delicious, and the drinks were perfectly made. I asked for a medium rare burger, and it came out close to well, but it was still tasty. They eventually made me another one, which was temped correctly. The atmosphere was nice; definitely not a place for children. There is a sign asking people for "proper attire," which I think can be problematic. Honestly, it's a way to be able to turn people away based on their appearance, which isn't really cool. The waiter was nice overall, but definitely a bit snobby. He made a comment to someone in my party about food, as if we didn't know anything about fine dining. When I mentioned my burger wasn't temped the way I wanted, he argued a little bit with me about it. I then said I wanted to eat it, since it was tasty anyway, and he pulled the plate out of my hand. I held on tight, and he really tugged! That was unnecessary. Regardless of this, I think this place is a gem in terms of quality of food. If you are worried about snotty waiters or even fellow patrons, I'd probably go somewhere else. The overall ambiance will make you feel out of place. read more

My wife and I ordered the Grilled Octopus and Oysters Carbonara appetizers and the Lobster Tagliatelle entree. Everything was amazing, and I would definitely order again! Beautiful views with fantastic food! We had a reservation for four people and were seated right away. The violets are blue cocktails were outstanding with fresh flowers on top. Our table started with fresh figs wrapped in prosciutto and an artisan cheese board. For dinner we enjoyed fresh pizzas - shrimp and pesto, and prosciutto and arugula! This place definitely has some growing pains. It took 20minutes to get a drink and then over an hour to get entrees. I think we wouldn't have been that ticked off if the couple next to us (who were seated about 15-20minutes after we were) didn't get their food 15 minutes before us. This place has potential. Came here after work one night maybe around 8:30p on a Sunday. They informed us the kitchen closes at 9pm when we were seated but we had plenty of time to order anything. The ambience is great. It's beautiful in there with a modern trendy vibe that resembles an upscale restaurant but doesn't make you feel like you need heels and a ball gown, for example like how Jackys Waterplace feels. The location is a bit odd for a rooftop, as Wayland square doesn't have much of a view but it's still nice. The service was great. We sat at the bar and while you could tell the servers were still new, they were very friendly. There was a "miscommunication in the kitchen" and my bf's swordfish was never made. So it took a while for him to get it, I was already done eating, but the staff were very apologetic and gave him a drink and some fresh bread to make up for it. They even accommodated my special request for a vegan pizza. They created a special veggie pizza without cheese and let me pick what I wanted on it for toppings. And let me tell you.... it was sensational. It's brick oven pizza and the crust is phenomenal. The sauce, perfection. I loved it. It's big too! Big enough for two or even three if you are just having apps. When the swordfish finally came out, WOW. Another sensational meal. He loved it, was tender and moist, cooked to perfection. The lentils and broccoli that came with his meal I tried and agreed: delicious. It has its quirky little moments where the staff is a bit hesitant with questions about the place but that's to be expected with any new place. There was an ant crawling around on my food yesterday. I would post a live video; however, yelp only allows pictures. Below is the evidence. This makes me question the sanitary cleanliness of the "behind the scenes" operation. Ant infestations are never a good thing in a kitchen. Also, my friend's meal and mine were mistakenly combined into one plate. I was disheartened to see a slab of chicken placed on top of my vegetarian salad because I recently decided to give up meat. I still don't know how this is pronounced, but however you say it you should definitely come on down to Mare. This rooftop restaurant is a new awesome spot right at the end of Wayland Ave. They do have Valet Parking if I remember correctly, but if not there is usually street parking easily available. Mare is very spacious, but the last two times I went there was around a 20-30 minute wait. They have an area if you just want to come and get drinks and then they have a regular area for just dinner eating. There is indoor and outdoor seating, but even if you are seated indoors you still get the feel of being outside since the whole restaurant is just open. The noise level isn't too loud so it is easy to have conversations with everyone in your party which is nice. The staff is friendly and helpful with any questions you need. The only food we tried was the pizza. It wasn't my favorite, but it was still very good nonetheless. They have a wide variety of beers and wines, and even some specialty cocktails as well. The outside view is pretty nice, you can just catch a glimpse of the skyline of downtown Providence, but your view is mostly of just the East side. read more

Looking for a place with outdoor seating during quarantine? Well this place is pretty great! They have both indoor and outdoor seating. We chose to go outside because of the nice weather. It was a bit windy and under direct sunlight but can't complain about that. The view isn't all that great since it's in a residential location. Now to the food! We ordered the hummus plate as an appetizer and man was it phenomenal ! Really rich and hearty, they have plenty of veggies and pita breads to get through it all. When it came to entree we had the scallops and braised short rib. The scallops came under a bed of purple rice and roasted corn. I was a fan of the corn and scallops but the rice was a little interesting. The braised short rib was fall off then one tense on a pillow of mash potatoes and roasted carrots. The presentation was phenomenal ! We even ordered a side pizza to go! Unfortunately it was a little underdone so we put it in the oven a bit longer. Overall great presentation and ambiance. I wish this place was better - it is beautiful, in a great location, and the rooftop is definitely a unique experience in providence. Their food is just disappointing (soggy pizza or too dry pizza, rubbery calamari, mealy meatballs, salad missing advertised ingredients, missing side dishes) and the service is pretty awful. Expect to argue if you want to change tables (even when there are several open tables they seem to have strict rules around where they will seat you), have orders forgotten or mixed up, and appetizers to arrive with your entree. I've been several times since they opened this summer, and every time I hope they will have fixed their service and food issues. I still go with friends but just for drinks. Hard to mess up a glass of wine and the atmosphere is nice! read more

Excellent dinner experience with friends at Maré Rooftop a couple of weeks ago! Atmosphere was beautiful and comfortable, food was fresh and delicious and service was quite good. Our server was very attentive and friendly, making sure we were happy with our choices and right on point with refreshing beverages etc, I posted pictures, tasted as delicious as they look. All of our appetizers & meals(6 people) were delicious and we all agreed this place is great! We had Dinner here on a Saturday night and it was delicious. Started off with Martinis and appetizers. My friend had the octopus, she said that it was cooked just the way that she liked it (tender). I had the crab cakes, three flavorful delicious bite size cakes. Entrees also good she had a ravioli special and she cleaned plate. I had the scallops on top of shredded sweet potato.
