A really good family style local place to get decent food as long as you know what you're getting into. By that I mean that it's basically bar food but with more selections than a regular bar, it's not a place you would make a special trip to for the food itself. Having said that, if you're in the area and you want a place that has something for everyone then it's not a bad place to stop. They have a good beer selection, their cocktails are ok and the prices are decent. The wait staff is really friendly, attentive and fast. The walleye and perch were very good although their seafood is all deep fried. They have a great pie selection if you're into that. The bottom line: come here if you are looking for decent grub in a family friendly atmosphere. We went there for dinner. Have been here many times before. Service and food very good. Tonight was not the same. I have not given a bad review in years but I have to here. The hostess was friendly and very polite. I cannot say the same for our waitress. Her name Susie. She was unfriendly from the start. She was unfriendly and took our order. She brought two salads and we ordered three. When I asked she counted two bowls and said that is what we ordered. Wrong again. No refills on our pop until we asked twice. Also brought the wrong soup out. Our regular waitress saw us and was super friendly to us even though she was not our server. The food is aways good here but this was the worst service ever. This was our first time here. We sat at a hightop in the bar. We liked the atmosphere. Our waitress was very pleasant and was "on top of it". She stopped by our table several times and I noticed she did the same thing with her other customers. They had a nice selection of draft beer. The food was very good. I am giving this a Could've Been Better because we had an exceedingly poor waitress who left us sitting for more than 15 minutes before she came to the table. We were getting up to leave when she came over. Next, she would not check on us or refill our drinks unless we shouted for her. The last straw for us was the high price on a Lake Erie Perch sandwich, which was $16. We had to pay for the coleslaw and French fries for this lunch. The coleslaw was so unappealing due to it being chopped in tiny squares and its dressing being a tasteless soup-like milk. No cabbage in the dish just watery milk! Four of us for lunch on Labor Day. Were seated after a short wait while we watched them clean our table (that could have been done better). Our waitress was Kim who tried to be cheerful even though she was obviously over burdened. Wife and daughter had chicken sandwiches, said that they were good. Son-in-law had the steak which he wasn't pleased with - small, over cooked, plus he was told that he couldn't get a baked potato before 4:00pm. The perch and walleye entrees were expensive so I decided to get the seafood platter for a dollar more and got perch, walleye, shrimp and calamari. Huge helping and well cooked, just could have been warmer. Nice little gift shop to keep the ladies happy. read more

I was so Confused reading the very mixed reviews, but we went anyway mainly based on location. Ambiance: kind of has a diner feel inside and the ac was barely functioning in the summer heat. We opted to sit outside for at least a breeze, plus there was some live music. The tables and chairs are extremely cheap, flimsy plastic, which is lame, and our table was missing its umbrella and it was sorely missed in the sun. We all had to gather on one side to avoid getting roasted. Service: very rushed and unfriendly. My husband had to go into the bar to order another drink and paid for it there. Thankfully we noticed the server put it on our bill anyway! Food: we each had the walleye and it was delicious! Market price was $18 for the dinner and $13 for the sandwich. Dinner was the better deal because I had a baked potato and steamed veggies (sadly, frozen kind) and the sandwich just had a couple bagged chips. I'm in between 2 and 3 stars here. This restaurant is only still in business due to its location. We left Kelley's Island and needed to grab lunch in Marblehead. In hindsight, we should have eaten anywhere on KI and gotten better service. The first 2 wait staff members we encountered were rude. They reluctantly served our party (they initially said they couldn't accommodate 5 adults and 5 kids), the food was downright awful, it took almost an hour and a half for the food to come out. We are a pleasant group and only expect to be treated pleasantly in return. If the food was the only problem, I wouldn't be writing a review. I came here while visiting family in the area. When we were first seated we had a server named Susie. She came to our table with her nose and mouth basically out of her mask. She was extremely rude and told us she didn't want to be there, wanted to go home, got mad at us for not wanting to order appetizers and entrees at the same time (within 10 minutes of being seated). We asked for a new server and after that everything was great. The new server was nice and personable, the food was good and there was live music which was very enjoyable. We came here for a late lunch/early dinner because we don't like huge crowds or feel like we are being rushed while people are outside waiting for a table. It was not busy yet and the food was incredible. Best calamari ever, perfectly fried, huge portion. My wife had a Ruben and fries and I had the chicken ciabatti with fries and slaw. Everything was amazing and again big portions. My only complaint is that the coleslaw was boring but typical, not bad. My wife's salad looked perfect. We will be back and I want to try the monster burger and would have but I just had a burger yesterday. Their desserts looked stupidly good, maybe next time we'll split one or get it to go. Decent spot for a reasonably priced dinner, but could have been better. The location is great - Across the street from Lake Erie and right next door to a beautiful little winery. We walked to the winery from the B&B we were staying at and as far as we knew the Galley was our closest option for dinner. We weren't looking for anything fancy or expensive so this fit the bill. For a lakeside restaurant it wasn't as inviting as I had hoped. We pretty much just wanted to eat and leave because of the atmosphere. I wished we would have thought to get take out to bring back to the winery. My husband wasn't too thrilled with his chicken and waffles, but I enjoyed my spaghetti night special. Maybe it was because I was starving, but I thought it was delicious! I'm not too familiar with the area, but I believe there are more restaurants a little further up the road. Stopped here today on our driving trip around Marblehead. We were very impressed with the decor and cleanliness. Our server was very friendly. Our food was mostly really good. The fried cheese appetizer was awesome. My husband had the perch dinner and it was far better than the perch I had the day before put on the island. There was so much fish in his plate he barely touched his fries. I had the turkey delight, and while there was nothing wrong with it, and the croissant was very fresh, the turkey was nothing special. I prefer my turkey shaved thin and piled high. This was just three slices of preformed turkey breast. Again, not bad, but not the best ever. The kids meals were normal fare, spaghetti. But the shining star of the meals were the deserts! Absolutely stunning deserts- all made on site according to the server, and a huge list of cakes, pies, and cheesecakes. When we arrived to The Galley we were seated promptly and our beverage order was taken immediately. Our friendly salads greeted us and promptly took our order. Our food arrived faster than we had anticipated and it was very hot, well made, and very tasty. My husband had the perch dinner and I had the summer berry salad eith grilled shrimp on top. One suggestion I have is to serve the salads with a nice crusty roll or homemade bread. They offer an extensive list of sumptuous looking homemade desserts but we were too full to order anything. Very clean restaurant, friendly staff, nice atmosphere - nautical theme fits the area. Food was just average and was pretty pricey for what you get. I had the buffalo chicken wrap which was ok but the side of "fancy-named-something-chips" makes you think you're getting some cool house made chips and then what you end up with is a handful of what appears to be Lays Wavy chips. Sometimes half the game is showing up. The Galley does that in spades. Not too many places on the main drag in Marblehead stay open after 6. Kudos for being open to the 'late night' crowd. yes it's laid back lake time, but we did like having a place to dine in. Service was attentive and friendly. The menu - vegetarian friendly if in limited ways. Our server gained my appreciation by letting us know that the spinach dip we wanted was unavailable. She then brought us - free of charge - a small portion of dip that was left with some truly delicious (crispy-soft, warm, not oversalted) pita chips. We substituted with salsa (very mild) and tricolor tortilla chips. Our entree was a med-veg wrap with some tangy tantalizing honey-mustardy flavor in them. All in all quite good. Ambience is casual, very family friendly. There's a slightly edgier bar across the street if that floats your boat. The galley does serve a good selection of alcohol. We were happy to find it and recommend it for dinner. Was tempted by an array of pies, but passed. Including an intriguing "Strawberry Poke Pie". Will surely try again when i'm back. Three stars for recent visit. I love going to Galley and would usually give it 4 or 5 stars . Not so with last visit. Note to owners: : If you close at 8:00PM and don't want to seat patrons at 7:30 , then close the kitchen at 7:30. I prefer that to the rude treatment we got a few Thursday evening ago. We had to sit inside as we were aware that there was not going to be tables available outside. I asked for a table away from other diners that was empty but not cleaned. I was told "it's not clean sit here. " Should have left right then and there. Server seemed not to happy to be serving us And was outwardly RUDE! She at one point snarked I can't hear you! My perch dinner which is usually good was dry and tasteless. As usual the baked potatoes were sold out so I asked for onion rings. I was never told they were an up charge I didn't look because someone was in a hurry to get our order in . I got up to request lemons for my fish and again to ask for napkins as we were ignored after food was delivered . Guess what that's not my job I spent a lot of money that night and never expected not to be able to enjoy my meal because yes , it was dry overcooked ect. Mainly it was because I was so upset at this server I couldn't eat. As long as she is employed there I'll never dine there again. My bill was 30.00 I left less than 10%. My food was decent but the service and up-charges were ridiculous! My husband ordered a sandwich and asked for extra bacon and they charged a fee, which is understandable, but he didn't receive EXTRA. In fact the bacon he did receive was mostly fat. My sandwich had a up-charge for a different type of bread. The server, who had too many tables, didn't even tell me until time to pay. Then we had to wait what seemed like forever to get our bill. What happened to this place? I've been going to Marblehead for over a decade now and the Galley used to be one of our favorite places to eat. The food is still good, but the service has become extremely disappointing. Our server was disinterested in our table and we felt more like a burden than patrons - almost as if the Galley were doing us a service by offering us their food. On the strength of the food alone I would have given 3 stars, but the perch (our usual) needed salt this time around and I had better perch down the road at both Big Boppers and The Jolly Roger. I was hoping that the service issue was a one-time thing, but found out a few days later that my wife's cousin, who got married at the Lake, brought a ton of business to the Galley in the form of the wedding party for a post-wedding lunch. He, his new wife, and their party were treated extremely rudely. Based on how we were served and then this second incident (and the underseasoned perch), we've decided to pass on the Galley in future trips and stay with Big Boppers, Crow's Nest, and Jolly Roger, all of whom had better perch in my opinion. read more

Don't be confused into thinking this is the old Galley Restraunt in Marblehead that was so great several years ago. They knocked down that place and it is now a Bruno's Pizza. The new Marblehead Galley is the same in name only. The last place I would eat in Marblehead. Instead of the fantastic Fresh Pech and Walleye meals the food tastes canned and thawed. The sliced meat on the sandwiches is dry.The servings are half the size but with even higher prices. Save you money and let the tourists go there or at least go there once. Old memories die hard. Try the little shop down the stree "Something Fishy" for a good Perch Sandwich. read more

My daughter and I came here on recommendation of a local, and boy was she right. Lake Erie perch and walleye -beautifully prepared. Local beers and wines. Friendly service. No rushing. The cherry on top was the homemade pie. I almost never order dessert because it is usually disappointing, but this peanut butter pie was to die for. Their pastry chef makes over 50 kinds of pies and cobblers. Sorry I don't have time to try more. This place is a gem. read more
