Although it's outside the main area of eateries around the docks, I decided to give it a try. Before leaving my room, I perused the menu, and on my walk over, I debated my choices: maybe a hot dog with homemade slaw, or a Southwest burger with chipotle sauce, bacon, and pepper jack cheese. Hmmm... Upon arrival, I asked for a menu, and the bartender slapped a wrinkled one on the bar. The first thing I saw was the "Sloppy Scotty," which the menu proclaimed, "It's what put us on the map!" I immediately knew that was what I had to have. I ordered a Maker's Mark with ginger ale, in which the Maker's Mark was liberally poured, and I sat down to await my meal. Service was quick, and when presented with my meal, the first thing I noted was that the hot dog bun was toasted on the outside. It was still a hot dog bun, but the outside kind of looked like Texas toast--just thinner--with Joe's signature "Sloppy Sauce" applied liberally on top, intermixed with mozzarella cheese, and topped with onions. It looked fantastic and tasted even better. It was absolutely delicious. I had an extra Maker's Mark just for good measure and was presented with a $27 bill. The night before, at a different restaurant, I had a couple of beers and a medium-sized perch plate, which was good but cost me $50. Do yourself a favor: if you find yourself on PIB, drop by the unassuming Joe's Bar and Restaurant to grab a bite. You won't be disappointed.

It couldn't have taken that long to throw blue cheese, bacon and tomatoes on a chunk of lettuce and pump out the Buffalo Chicken dip and then worry about the main courses later. Now we have to decide, do we want to eat the entrees or even touch the appetizers. That alone always ruins everything. Food was very good. Golf cart rental: Compared to all my visits to neighboring Put-in-Bay, there are barely any golf…read morecarts available to tourists on Middle Bass and they are only available at J.F. Walleye's. My grandpa and I got an early start and came in on the 9:15am ferry. We needed a golf cart around 10am, but turns out you can't even rent a golf cart until they open at noon! Fortunately, we ran into a worker who let us rent out a cart. We were able to golf cart around the whole island by noon and returned for lunch. Restaurant: This is the only standalone restaurant on the island so you can't expect much. The BBQ wings were solid but I wasn't a fan of the walleye bites. I love walleye, but the bites just didn't taste right and they came with a weird honey mustard dressing and the cole slaw tasted like gordon food service vs. being homemade. My Mai Tai tasted like a tropical drink, but not a Mai Tai necessarily. The restaurant features a resort-like wading pool (it's 1.5 feet deep) and there were kids swimming in it on the Thursday afternoon I visited. I imagine the pool and the entire place gets put-in-bay crazy on the weekend. Food and drinks are pricey, which is understandable given how difficult it is to get everything on and off the island. Overall, 5/5 for the service from the golf cart guy and our attentive waitress, but everything else is a bit disappointing just like the island.

You could come here and spend a whole day and never get bored. The Orchard is a classy spot with more formal dining room and a lovely back patio area that has a barn-like vibe. The "Coop" is an outdoor bar area with a chicken coop and it's always lively. And then, there's the Farmstand which has a pizza oven, farm stand and and outdoor patio area. This place is a 10/10!

Three of us had the $38 seafood fettuccine many of the muscle shells were broken causing the dish to have sharp pieces throughout that needed picked out before we could eat it. The fettuccine was also very stiff and sticky. Our server seemed extremely busy, which we completely understand, but I asked for a water refill when the food arrived that never came and went nearly an hour without anything to drink. He also wasn't able to return to check on our meals. With a restaurant as established as this one, we were surprised there wasn't additional support for the server with things like water refills and table checks. The final frustration was learning only at checkout that our group could not have separate checks. We had seven couples and specifically indicated who was together while ordering, so we naturally assumed the orders were being separated. Our bill was around $1,200, with couples spending anywhere from approximately $90 to $250, so simply dividing the total among several cards wasn't a practical solution. Had we been told about the policy before ordering, we absolutely could have planned accordingly. We understand that separating a large check after the fact can be difficult, but since the policy wasn't communicated to us beforehand, we felt the right thing to do would have been to make an exception rather than leaving our group to sort out the bill at the end of the evening.
