Ok so, in a positive and fair review, this would be an amazing food truck. The ribs are on point. Perfectly cooked, soft, fall off the bone. Good flavor, nicely seasoned. A food truck focused on the ribs. Perfect. It is where the menu expands that this restaurant falls off a bit. Chicken wings & half chicken platter dry as a bone. The sides are good, But the greens are kale not collard and it just doesn't seem right! The Mac and cheese is good. The best is the Cole slaw. read more

Had the pleasure to come in to Maple Tree on a beautiful Thursday evening and boy, was the smell appetizing. A wonderful smoky flavor mixed with a clean, rustic interior made for a wonderful atmosphere. I ordered the half rack of ribs, which is one of my go to's at the BBQ restaurants I've been fortunate enough to visit throughout the world. Although it wasn't quite as good as Kansas City joints, it was extremely tender and flavorful. It has a nice dry rub on it with just enough spices but not overpowering. In addition, the owner spent time talking to us and walking us through his smoking process, which is always find very special. He definitely knows his stuff on BBQ. Next time I return, I definitely want to give some other meats a try, but based on what I saw on other plates, the smoke rings were absolutely beautiful. Really good BBQ, which is hard to find on LI. I was in riverhead for jury duty and needed somewhere to eat for lunch. I'm so happy I found this place. I got a combo meat platter with brisket and North Carolina pulled pork. Both were great. The spicy pickles side was unique and tasty but the cornbread was a bit too dry. I wish I got the Mac and cheese. I will try the ribs and Mac if I'm called back to court tomorrow. read more

They've completely renovated the place with new owners. The place looks like a nice sit down restaurant. It's not that big. It's so bright now. I didn't see any high chairs here. The waitress, Michelle, is still the nicest waitress ever. They don't have their awesome baked stuff yet. Too bad because it's Sooo good here. The food is still very good. Some of the meat are a little fatty but the flavors are great. The home made ice tea is so good. I am not a mac and cheese person but theirs is very good. This time I had the pastrami sandwich. This is definitely one of those " do not judge a book by it's cover" we were in the area and after loads of yelping and reviews of fellow yelpers, we decided to give this place a try. We pulled up and my husband and i both thought the same! " i hope he changes his mind about this place" "i hope she changes her mind about This place" ... We came to Maple Tree BBQ on a Saturday night, after what seemed to be a busy day. They were out of a few things but we found some delicious plates to share and devour. The reason for this review is not for the food (which was exceptional, pulled pork was my choice) but for the service. All the employees went out of their way to give us a delicious meal. Alice especially, she was handling front of house orders, while making drinks and later on serving us our meal... all with a smile on her face (well, under her mask of course!) This is some of the best brisket you can get outside of Texas! The food was all real BBQ. You got the nice taste of the wood with all the juiciness expected with out the sauce. The wings are amazing and so tasty. This will be a regular BBQ stop for me in the future when visiting Riverhead. Next time I will probably order food to go. read more

A lucky turn took us to this outstanding bbq! Before I talk about the ribs, let me say that they had The Best Collard Greens, I've had in my entire life. Collards are always my go to side and here, they win the Best Ever award! I asked and they told me they cook it in the stock from the smoking the pork shoulders. Not fatty drippings, but the pork juice! The ribs were center cut, had beautiful smoke rings and tender but not slide off the bone too quick. Perfection! We ate in the sunny backyard, relaxed and then reflected on how great a meal we had just enjoyed. Service is friendly and top notch. One visit and you want to be a regular. read more

Great hidden gem!! I found this restaurant on yelp as I was looking for a quick stop to pick up take out after a day out in the riverhead neighborhood. My family and I were super impressed, food was delicious and so was the service! The restaurant was extremely clean, and the food was made fresh to order and delicious! This was some good bbq! The brisket burnt ends was excellent! Melt in your mouth good. The sauce was nice and savory. The NC pulled pork was the perfect amount of spicy: you felt the zing but it didn't kill the taste buds ;) The regular pulled chicken was just ok. Their cornbread was so good. It was not savory, but it wasn't overly sweet either. It was well balanced. The only downside is that the cornbread was available at the counter in a bag, so it wasn't warm. My fave root beer, Virgil's is available! The perfect drink to go with bbq. read more

First off didn't realize it's more of a take out place-when we called to see if there was a long wait I think the guy laughed at us. When we arrived I understood why. Staff wasn't really too patient with us-first time there. The food was worth it. I'm really not Into bbq bc it's so heavy but this wasn't. The rib platter was not greasy!! When i go to Riverhead this is the roadside BBQ joint i want to visit. It has riverside parking across the street. Just be careful when you walk or run across, sometimes the traffic can get a bit busy especially when you are hungry. That place is never too busy but still there is a bit of waiting. Yesterday I went to that ramen shop in Bayside, Kyuramen....Today I came to Maple Tree, it was such a contrast. The guy behind the bar and registrar would actually say, sorry to keep you waiting....And when we left, he would say Enjoy the rest of your day. That's manner and etiquette I know growing up. But for some reason some restaurants and staff just don't care that aspect of the business or human interactions anymore. Back to BBQ, I really enjoy their meat and simple decor. I've been looking for good barbecue on the North Fork and finally found it! We ordered the full rack family dinner and a couple of burnt tip sliders (just had to try them). Our sides were potato salad and baked beans. The dinner comes with corn bread and brownies. Wow! Everything was delicious. The meat came of the ribs so easily and was very tasty without any sauce. Very moist. I tried The barbecue sauce and I'm a fan. The corn bread was sweet without adding butter (that didn't stop me, of course). The potato salad was fantastic. The brownies were moist and delicious. The baked beans had a different flavor to them that I couldn't identify that made them interesting and tasty. Glad I discovered the place. Very disappointing. Read all these great reviews, and we got a mediocre meal at best. They were out of ribs, wings , cornbread and sweet potatoes. We had to rethink our order. Salmon was good but kind of bland. The pulled pork was a bit dry but the yummy sauce came to the rescue. The herb potatoes were good but the beans were more lentil. The Mac and cheese was very watered down. I really wanted to like this place. We might give this place a second chance do to a nice staff and others good reviews. read more

We were happy to find this cozy little place after roaming inside the aquarium for a few hours. Place is very clean inside. Food was great. We tried a pulled pork sandwich, beans, burnt ends, coleslaw and some ribs. Ribs in particular were outstanding. This will be our spot during next visit to the aquarium for sure. Stick with the bbq that for sure is 4* and it's on point what gave the review a 3* is your extras you can do better: That sangria was gross needs more love it just was like boxed red wine and some lime wedges and peaches yuck even tried to add more peaches and some sprite to sweeten it a bit and still was bitter and not pleasing. Fresh out of the oven bread pudding was bland and had no sweetness or creamy consistency was dry dense and throwing caramel and nuts over it doesn't make it better Ranch hand was delicious Potato salad is really soupy/watery and had very little flavor needed more love added. Rib platter 2 of the 3 ribs were cooked perfect the fat rendered nice and flavorful but the 3rd looked a little undercooked (rawish) but I'm almost positive it was a fat pocket by the cartilage that visually and texturely just couldn't get passed it just didn't render the fat well. Mac and cheese was yummy the teenager enjoyed it. read more
