I went here for HH with friends recently and, while the prices and products are nothing to complain about, it seems like a large chunk of the people drinking in the bar are employees or friends of the owner/staff as there was a steady stream of patrons going in and out of the kitchen. Whether they work there or not, it doesn't reflect favorably on the business. Management seemed non-existent, or simply doesn't care. Felt like I was in an episode of Bar Rescue. The waitresses weren't sure of what was covered under Happy Hour for food and drink and the gal serving us kind of dismissively said that it changes all the time. She came back with a flyer showing the food deals for HH, but even that ended up making them look silly again as she swooped by right after I ordered to grab the menu from me, mentioning that it was the only menu they had. Come on, man. One menu?! Your bar is packed for happy hour, but you sure as hell aren't maximizing sales by being disorganized and fumbling the easy stuff. I'm a blue collar guy that likes his dives like anyone else, but disorganization like this is simply frustrating and annoying. The place seems to have taken a turn for the worse since my previous visits that had been pleasant. I'd like to come back, but there are too many other better options in town where I don't feel like an inconvenience to the employees. read more

I liked their burger selection. I couldn't decide to go with the spicy burger or the one with blue cheese. I ended up choosing the burger with bacon and a fried egg since that isn't found too often on menus. Our server was pleasant. But once we were done, we didn't get a check-in from our server for a good 45 minutes. Not that we were actively seeking her out, but a check-in is nice. Another problem ~ she didnt have a clue what kind of beer they had on tap. I had to get a Coors Light rather than having her go back and look. It was just a bar/restaurant on a Wednesday night. But by the looks of it, they have quite a bit of live music on the weekends. They also have a nice sized & sunny patio. Happy Hour seemed pretty decent ~ $2 domestic taps and a good selection of $5 appetizers. But we stayed away from those because we had a crowdcut coupon. read more

Holy Meh.... I wanted to really like this place, I did. looking for some suds and grubs my wife, kid and I stopped here to top off our intestinal tracts. The staff was friendly, the outdoors seating was great and shockingly the band was pretty good... And that ends the positive portion of the review. The beer selection was ok, I like a good selection of local and not so local craft brews, their beer menu had a lot of the mega swills, but was able to find something I wanted. To start our culinary adventure we ordered a batch of bone in hot wings in classic sauce. The wings were not very good, very fatty a little gamy, we ate less than half of them, where we would normally clear the plate. The burgers that followed up where only marginally better, but you could do better a local fast food joint. The onion rings were actually pretty good, and the best thing we had to eat thus far at the establishment. I want to say the service was awesome because our server was really friendly, but I can't. Twice I flagged down other servers for refills or what have you, our server was no where to be seen. She later apologized as she was give in a big table. I waited tables for 9 years. I know how it goes. In the servers defense her co-workers did pickup the slack with a smile. Likely will not go back, unless its for beer and onion rings, and someone else is buying. read more

Bartender was awful terrible service food mediocre I will never go there again no matter how much I like the band- and if you are a band Yo do not want to play there! This is truly the saddest food I've ever been served in a Minnesota restaurant, ever. The "Baked Chicken" breasts had been pre-cooked at least a couple of days in advance. They arrived cold, dry and mostly inedible. A few slices of steamed vegetables had been dropped on the chicken just before it came out, perhaps to disguise the rigor mortis on the plate. "Quesadilla" came straight from a restaurant supply place, thrown into a microwave and brought out with the chicken. And they mangled the most basic entree on the table: a grilled cheese and tomato sandwich, again pre-made, refrigerated and microwaved. Three entrees and one app set me back $70. If the food had been tasty or made-on-premises, I would not have blinked, but this meal was just.a tad better than my stoner college roommate used to make for himself; straight from freezer to microwave to plate. The people who own the place are yuppie bar managers, not restaurateurs. There is no love of food planning, prep or presentation here. Drunken people will eat anything; that's the only reason this place exists. Don't waste your cash. There are plenty of fantastic places to feed yourself in the metro area. Eat elsewhere. read more

Good food...a bit expensive for what it is. Coupons in local discount dollar. I had the bacon and egg burger. The fried egg was overcooked, but the burger was done perfectly. The wife had the walleye sandwich. The tartar sauce wasn't really an authentic tartar sauce...tasted of garlic. Not the best she or I had ever tasted. Overall...not bad, but their suppers are much better than their lunch. read more

So disappointed in their breakfast! Bacon, sausage, hash browns all undercooked, we asked the waitress to take it back and she said she'd grab a plate but never returned. Eggs and biscuits way over cooked. The service wasn't good either, we sat with empty coffee cups for more than 20 minutes...I certainly won't go again read more

Definetly an interesting crowd. I didn't realize until we got to MT that it is somewhat of a biker bar. No worries, it made for better people watching while on the patio. I was there with a group of 4 this past weekend. We were sat right away on the patio and told that HH drinks were all day on Sunday - score! The $2 drinks were all that we needed for libations - 5 stars for this alone! My friends got burgers and the mac and cheese. The only blip was that they were out of a few of the types of burgers. They did make it up to us by taking some money off the bill - we didn't ask for this but they offered and we really appreciated it, great service! I ordered teh deconstructed nachos. This is what knocked them down a few stars. They came with an abundance of chips on the side but the dip was bland and a little lacking. It was mostly black beans and very little cheese / lettuce. I was hungry so I prompted ate half of the nachos but I woudn't order them again. That said, we will probably be back for the HH. During the week they also discount all their apps to $5. read more

A fun tavern style restaurant. We went in for dinner and drinks. The soup, steak salad, and turkey bacon avocado sandwich were surprising really good. They've got a decent beer and wine selection. Happy hour drink specials are pretty nice too! We stayed for video bingo and won a round of drinks. I can see how it could get pretty boozey, loud, and bar like if you stayed later. I thought it was fine for family dining as long as you head in before the bar crowd. We'd head back if we're back in the area. read more

Was looking forward to a meal out and the menu looked great. However, we were seated so we could see into the kitchen and every server pulled their masks down while behind the wall. We watched 2 girls rubbing their eyes and noses while one scooped up a salad dressing into cups. We asked to speak to a manger. Our server apologies and said there wasn't one. She said there usually isn't. So disappointed and grossed out. We left immediately. This place needs some serious leadership and accountability. Without a doubt the worse service I have experienced. We got there and the restaurant was about 2/3rds full. We waited for over 5 minutes before someone seated us. We then sat at the table for 10 minutes and nobody came to get a drink order or acknowledge that we were there. What would happen if the place was full. I freaking love this place. I can't put my finger on why exactly. I think it has to do with the way I feel when I'm here. I grew up in rural Minnesota and the bar feels like that - local. Very friendly. That's not all though, the food is to die for. The Chipotle Peanut Butter Burger, Om nom nom. They use to have deconstructed nachos and a chicken dumpling the size of a softball. It's almost all handmade and delish! Make sure you swing in for the weekend meat raffle too or try your luck on the live lobster crane game. read more

Service isn't the fastest but all the food options are unique, very flavorful, you can get seated quick, drinks are not watered down, and servers are friendly but busy. Go for one of their signature dishes like the fancy meatloaf, or just enjoy classics like good burgers, wraps, and my favorite is the walleye. My friends and I arrived at 9:35 and sat down in the dining room. The server did not come over until 9:45 and said "what do you want?" in a rude tone to our table. I asked what time the kitchen closed and she said that "last call is at 9:45...so..." then she said "I can put in an app or something but I cannot make you a full meal" at that point we are just disappointed with the poor customer service, and we decided to leave. The problem wasn't that last call was at 9:45, that was totally our bad. The problem was that the server was rude and lacked customer service skills completely. There was 9 of us and we all would've stayed for a couple beers, but since the service was so terrible we chose to leave, and the place we went afterwards provided excellent customer service. The Tavern is our favorite bar and grill in this area. Their patio is fantastic and made even better with live music in the summer. We spend a lot of time at the tavern for a few reasons: absolutely fantastic service (specifically from Chelsea and Baltimore), lots of TVs for big games, really reasonable drink prices (amazing happy hour prices), great food (again good happy hour prices), video bingo on Tuesday nights, and a laid back setting with lots of live music. read more

There were so many kids in the "restaurant" that we sat in the bar. Our choice. Not great service. Never had our table wiped down and still staring at the menu while we're waiting for the check. Water. Only one of us got a water in a broken cup, so we shared 3 ways with the table. Steak bites. Like shoe leather. I think my mom cooked this. There was no risk of that beef coming back to life via zombie or vampire. Boneless Garlic Parmesan Wings. The chicken was cooked well. Avoid the sauce unless you like mayo and the green bottle of shakey Parmesan. Mayo. Seriously. The PB&J burger could be good if you got the raspberry jelly on the side. Overpowering. The Buffalo Chicken Salad was good. Some of the salad had been previously frozen. I have had the blackened steak salad in the past and LOVED it. Maybe this was just an off night. read more

Our experience started off well, quickly seated on the patio and our order taken. However our waitress got switched and the waitress told us that a new waitress, Mandy, would be checking in with us and taking over. Mandy never checked in with us, not one time, someone else brought us our food and that's the last of it. My order was wrong, but Mandy or no one else ever came and checked in with us after we got our food. After we finished our meal we saw four tables get seated, eat their food, pay their bill then leave. An hour total had passed since we finished our meal and those four tables had left. I finally went inside and waited at the bar for 15 minutes for someone to approach me. I told them my concern and they went and found my bill. To me it is completely unacceptable to forget about a table like that. We will not be returning. read more

My girlfriend and I stopped in here on a Sunday evening to grab a quick bite. She ordered a cheese burger wrap and I ordered the beef street tacos. Our food arrived very quickly, which was nice. My girlfriend's wrap came with a side of chips, but they were chips from bag and the server mentioned it was the end of the bag and wasn't sure if she had gotten enough "big" chips and to let her know if she wanted more. Just to be clear, this place does serve homemade chips. So why they were serving these chips seemed pretty weird. The tacos had weird taste and the meat was ice cold. I couldn't even bring myself to eat them. I told the server our dissatisfaction with our meal. She didn't charge us for the tacos, but mentioned that the homemade chips were considered extra (for next time). Unfortunately for them I don't think there will be a next time. read more

Unfortunately I have nothing good to say about this place. Went in with a few people for a Sunday evening dinner. They "forgot" my meal. It was a salad. Easy enough. Everyone else received their food here and there. A lot wrong with everyone's orders. Charged for things not even ordered. Just overall bad. After everyone was done eating, the "manager" came over and asked how everything was for everyone. I said" well I cant tell you, because I've yet to recieve my meal" lol what a joke. He then says its hard for them to handle such a large party. Hahaaah. Really?? What is the difference between 30 separate tickets at the same table as apposed to 30 different tickets at different tables??? Maple Tavern has your typical bar food menu with a fun patio! During the summer their large patio and volleyball courts are a great time. I've tried multiple menu items and have been full, just not super impressed. Also why did they take the stuffed tots off the appetizer menu? Those were amazing! The half and half burger is ok but I would recommend the maple bacon jalapeño burger myself. One thing that was really good is their blackened steak salad! Not usually a huge salad guy but my wife got it and I was craving more! They also do have a killer happy hour if you are looking for cheap drinks! $2 pints, bottles, and rails! Oh and on weekends their Bloody Mary bar is hard to top! read more

It's bar food, and it's decent. I ordered the fish and chips. I would say that the fries were REALLY good. Thin, nicely seasoned, crispy... (and I normally don't care for fries). However, the fish, while tasty, was swimming in the grease from the fryer. Either it wasn't drained, or the oil wasn't hot enough to prevent the fish from absorbing it... something wasn't right. This is one of those things I'll have to try again. Perhaps it was just an "off night" on the fryer. A second go will make up my mind... Nice beer selection, not crazy micro-only, nor just cheap macro-swill... well done here... Best part was an incredibly attentive waitress. We had a 4 person "meeting" over dinner, and she was perfect about letting us alone to talk, put still keeping things taken care of on the table. 10 out of 10 for the wait staff. The restaurant itself is much bigger than I expected. Not cramped, and a good mix of people. Some families with youngsters, some younger guys at the bar, and some older folks enjoying a drink and a meal. Anyone should feel right at home here. Short version: Needs a second try. I ate here with my family a few weeks ago. Overall it was just OK. The deconstructed nachos we ordered on happy hour were a bit over-done. My entree of fish and chips was disappointing - wayyyy too much batter on the fish. Service was okay. We had to have the waitress change out the pop syrup, as I could immediately tell from the color it was going to taste gross. She was very responsive and brought over a new one as soon as she could. Honestly, this place confuses me. I truly never know what to expect. Decent bar food and fair prices, but the service is so hit or miss. Some of the bartenders are downright rude and neglectful. Worst...Nachos...Ever... Our nachos consisted of a plate of lettuce surrounded by a few chips with some burnt cheese. Now I don't know about you, but when I order nachos I expect a heaping plate of chips with lots of warm cheese sauce, and maybe a little lettuce & tomatoes. Good drink prices and crowd, pull tabs, and a live band equal a FUN ole Friday night in MN! The bar and restaurant atmosphere is comfortable, casual, and laid back with plenty of indoor seating and some outdoor seating. There's a small dance floor if you are in the mood for some dancing! read more

wow... has the quality of food taken a nose dive and the prices are too high to be justified. We've gone to Maple Tavern on-and-off for a long time, haven't hit it up in a while and decided to go this past weekend. Called ahead for reservations because in the past the wait was long. Got there at 6pm (Saturday), it was dead. No RSVP required. The waitress was very nice and attentive. The four of us looked over the menu and chose four different meals, hamburger, chicken sandwich, boneless wings and a vege-burger. The food was very average at best, the taste of my wife's chicken sandwich was very bland on boring bread and very little chicken but a lot of lettuce. The burger my son had was good, the boneless wings my daughter had where fine and the vege-burger was well, boring. The upcharges for something other than chips where too high for what you got-fries or sweet potato fries. Overall the food was fine the cost was to high side for what we got. Very disappointed for a place that used to be good and then you didn't mind paying the price. Bottom line: no line/crowd for a reason. Sad to see this place go downhill. read more

I give this joint a B-. Drinks and food are fine, nothing special but gets the job done. Prices are ok, interior is newly renovated so nice-ish. I don't have anything bad to say but this isn't a wow-factor establishment. Worth a visit for lunch or dinner if you have a coupon or if it's convenient. read more
