Went here for the first time and will definitely be back. We had made reservations for inside but it was a nice day out so we sat on the patio. You get a nice view of the river from the eating area on the patio. However, if you just come for drinks there is a section without service that is closer. You just have to walk up to the bar yourself to get your drinks. The food here was great. We had the burrata as an appetizer. Then the hanger steak frites as a main course and added asparagus. We also had a couple cocktails that were good. Our server was knowledgeable about the menu and seemed to be knowledgeable with service in general. I was impressed. My sister was up from the south metro and I wanted to take her to a place the impresses! This place is not only beautiful inside but the outdoor patio is really what shines!! There is plenty of free parking and patio seating is first come first serve. If you want to sit outside, skip walking through the building and head over to the side, there is a hostess desk there! The view is of the Mississippi! This patio has fire pits for night time, a bar and plenty of seating! It has an upscale feel that is truly fantastic! The drinks here were refreshing! And they have a fair amount of zero proof drinks! Our server was AMAZING!! He had recommendations that just hit on every single one! The KFC wings and crab cakes really stood out to us! The tiger shrimp, while good, just did not stand out to us, especially for the price. There were so many other items that we would've tried! I love it here. We dined in for my sister's birthday and snagged a spot on the patio overlooking the river. The service and food is high quality. We had a server who was on day #1 and we complimented him for how polished he was and even informed the manager. There were lots of unique appetizers and main courses. Char Blu far exceeded expectations on two separate visits. From the interior being as upscale as it is, to the extremely welcoming and accommodative service. Then there is the food.... Which has a ton of standouts! The Sticky Pork Belly is an absolute must. Perfectly tender, insane flavor... and plenty to leave the table happy! For sides (or starters), the tallow fries and roasted carrots are both phenomenal. Then you've got the Delmonico - delicious! Perfectly cooked, nicely prepared, and with a side of creamy bearnaise to boot. And while you might not expect getting the best lobster tail in Champlin, you'd be surprised at how SOLID the one is here. It's reasonably sized for the price, as well. We had a group of 7 celebrating a birthday. The hostesses were super friendly as we walked in. I would recommend reservations to ensure seating. Our waiter was very friendly and helpful with our questions. Food- we started out with the grilled oysters. My family said they had a little spicy kick, but was very good. (I personally don't like oysters so I didn't try them) I ordered the grass fed ribeye- it was cooked and seasoned perfectly. So tender and juicy. It came with roasted potatoes and asparagus. After dinner, I had an affogato- salted caramel gelato with chunks of chocolate and caramel with the espresso, it was amazing. We also shared an almond joy martini, which tasted like you were eating an almond joy- delicious! I thought the dinner service and food we ordered was well worth the price. A Great addition to the Champlin area and so close to home. This beautiful restaurant sits on the side of Mississippi River. Can't wait for the patio to open up in the summer. The staff was very attentive, friendly and knows the menu very well. Shout out to our server, David. He was amazing. Let's get to the most important part, the delicious food. We decided to skip appetizers and jumped right to the entrées. We got the Scallops and the Wagyu Ribeye. The Scallops came with Basil Risotto, crispy Serrano jamon, fried basil, asparagus and basil oil. The Scallops were cooked to perfection, nice sear on the outside and buttery on the inside. The Risotto was cooked perfectly and had a good Basil taste. Every bite was perfection. For the Wagyu Ribeye we chose the cauliflower au gratin as the side. The Ribeye just melts in your mouth and was cooked to perfection. The Au Gratin is a must try and a perfect side for the Ribeye. It was ooey, gooey, cauliflowers roasted to perfection and the taste reminded me a little of truffles. We ended the dinner on a sweet note. Right away the Pistachio lava cake was calling my name and the hubby wanted to try both the Budino and the Affogato. All of them were good but the lava cake won my heart over. The cake has a nice caramalization on the outside and very soft on the inside, topped with Pistachio Gelato and Orange zest. It's just perfection, not overly sweet. The orange zest adds some freshness and the citrus balances out all the flavors. We can't wait to go back and try other good things on the menu. read more

A truly exceptional new spot for elevated dining in the Champlin/Anoka area. Yesterday was my first time in and I was so impressed with the service and the food, especially for this being a newer restaurant. Our server was incredible and very attentive. Overall a great experience. Restaurant is large and will have patio seating once the weather warms up. Service was friendly and bathrooms are clean. Came for lunch and have the half/half combo for $20. Half sandwich or pasta and half soup or salad. I had the shrimp scampi pasta with a wedge salad. Pasta came with 4 pieces of shrimp and pasta seemed like it was fresh made. Sauce was garlicky and delicious. Wedge salad was just ok. I got more of the core of the iceberg so it was a little bitter and the dressing wasn't very flavorful. A little bland. I love a nice blue cheese flavor but this lacked it. I asked if the had any bread and was charged $3 for 2 slices of toast. I wish the server let me know that there was a charge but I found out with the bill. read more

It's the best mashed potato in Minnesota. The shrimp pasta had a bit of a kick but good. The key lime flan was a really good key lime pie vibe and huge portion, really similar to a cheesecake. Key lime lovers should go for it. Kid friendly with kids menu as well. Our server was very knowledgeable of the whole menu and had excellent recommendations . She was friendly, knowledgeable about the menu and shared her favorites and insights too. The restaurant has surprisingly comfortable chairs at the table and chair sets, the noise level was high without being full of people. The food was good, not great. Our table had a variety of dishes from burgers to steaks and short ribs. Prices are fair for the quality of food. Bar area and dining room were full but not packed. But where things fell apart was the service. It was abysmal. While staff was friendly, it was ridiculously slow. Right from the first drink order service was at a crawl. When my wife and I ordered a second drink midway through the meal, we had to track it down at the bar ourselves. Food arrived warm-ish, not hot. And lastly, we waited almost 40 minutes for our bill. Wow. Honestly, everything was outstanding. What a gem of a new restaurant. The cocktails were very good and very strong. The apps, crab cakes and french onion soup were delicious. Again, the entrees were fantastic. The steak frites was cooked to perfection, very tender, the chimmichuri had a little kick and was the best chimmichuri I've ever had and it also came with bearnaise sauce. The scallops were cooked perfectly, there were 5 and the risotto was cooked perfectly. The short ribs were as tender as could be and the tortellini were cheesy goodness. And to end, the desserts were incredible. The Pistachio lava cake was divine. It was real Pistachio flavor not the artificial kind. I'm dreaming of eating  that again. The food portions were very generous for the price, excellent value for money. Our server, Devon, was fantastic and everyone we talked to was so nice. The inside is modern/contemporary. A couple notes; the music is a tad loud in the dining room but once it got a bit busier it wasn't so bad. Additionally, we were there to celebrate a birthday, we had to bring up that we were there for a celebration and there was no candle included with either of the desserts we ordered. We were incredibly excited to try Char Blu. Given its beautiful location on the river in Champlin and the stream of positive reviews, we were anticipating a high-end, upscale dining experience. Instead, our visit to the patio felt less like fine dining and more like a bizarre episode of the Twilight Zone. To start, the service outside was painfully slow. We spent a massive amount of time just waiting for basic attention. But the real issue was the sheer chaos at our table. Between our server and the busser, drinks were spilled on our party not just once, but twice. To top it all off, a knife was dropped right at the table--thankfully, it narrowly missed hitting anyone's feet. The patio was an incredibly frustrating experience and completely lacked basic coordination. That being said, the inside of the restaurant looked nice, so we might be willing to give them one more chance strictly for drinks or a bite at the indoor bar. It is an expensive place, but both the quality and quantity of the food were quite high. We had the pork belly appetizer, the bone in T-bone steak, risotto and the filet mignon steak. Service was plentiful and excellent, which was even more amazing given they hadn't been open very long yet. We went to Char Blu last night for my Husbands birthday. We were very careful while choosing our food as I have an allergy to ALL nuts. We decided to share two entrees that did not contain nuts in their descriptions. When our lobster tails came out, there were nuts sprinkled all over them and into the potatoes. Our waiter asked if he could take it back and have an entire new one made, but I just asked if we could just get one single one without nuts, and my husband could eat the one provided and he said no problem. Come time to pay the bill, we were charged for the one lobster tail they brought out with no nuts ( when the entree comes with two) but we were charged MORE than the original price for the one plus the price for the first entree! Incredibly disappointing especially given the price of each entree. Allergies are not something to take lightly and to make people pay extra for when it's the restaurants fault for not disclosing the full menu. read more

Its expensive, which we expected, but the service was lacking (server never came around to check on us), the steaks were not cooked correctly and the lobster tails were mealy. Due to an out door band nearby there was zero parking for restaurant guests so had to park blocks away at a plaza and walk. Ridiculous service- waitress went through a long script on all of her "favorites" on the menu for both drinks and food and basically called the entire menu her "favorite". Waited 15 minutes just to get our beverages and over an hour and a half for food- The restaurant wasn't even half capacity!!! The wait time in between requesting cocktails, water & food was ridiculous. Tried to order the "Japanese Steakhouse salad" $16 (which was one of the waitresses "favorites" again,) then was asked if I want to add steak to it? Which was an additional $16 that she neglected to mention? I changed my order when I realized that. The first time we tried this place I ordered the Grass Fed Ribeye $$$ Which was the worst steak I ever had, it tasted like they plopped it in a pot of boiling water and plated it for me- it was awful.
