Lychee Coffee Breakfast
Paige S.

We had a lovely time trying the food here. I love Asian brunch, it's the perfect mix of healthy veggies and protein. A plethora of vegetarian friendly options here and beverages to accompany meals. I wasn't enthralled with the iced lychee coffee, but I still drank what I could. Otherwise our food was lovely. Our breakfast French toast was sweet because of the fruit, not overly saturated with sugars. I loved my egg and veggies platter, I would've liked it more if they had put on more jalapeño though, since I'm a spice lover. The only downside was the space was crowded from two large parties. Not their fault though. I'm glad they have the business!

We went back for more. Delicious duck. Huge portions. Good service. Outside seating. Pleasant atmosphere

Unique hidden gem that serves American brunch with a Thai twist as well as Thai brunch dishes. If you prefer a Thai lunch/dinner, there's a menu for that too! Beautiful open space with Insta-worthy opportunities. Food presentation is delightful. I ordered the Kai Ka Ta and Lychee Coffee. Both were delicious, and prices are reasonable. Next time, I would like to try the Thai coconut pancakes! Our waitress was very sweet and attentive.

This is one of our favorite go to neighborhood restaurants. Definitely the best Thai in town. Lovely servers and hostesses and staff. And the food is amazing. Great quality and service! Lovely ambiance and outdoor patio as well! A favorite!

Papaya Salad

Paid Charlottesville a visit with my family as a previous UVA alumni and wish this spot was open while I was a student! The food was excellent, quite literally every dish we ordered had its own wow factor. Came for brunch at around 10 AM and it was relatively empty, but service was incredibly quick. We got our drinks and food after only 10-15 minutes of waiting. Our waiter was attentive, kind and we passed along our compliments to the chef. We ordered the crab omelette, kai ka ta, chicken and waffles, ka pow crispy pork belly, pad see eaw and papaya salad. Everything hit the mark - from spice level, complexity of flavor and generous portion sizes. The standout dishes were: 1. Kai ka ta - unique flavor with the sauce and toasted bread to scoop up the chicken, veggies and fried eggs. 2. Crispy pork belly - sweet, savory with a side of rice and generous amounts of pork! 3. Papaya salad - refreshing, crunchy and we could tell it was made fresh that morning. Added bonus were the sizable pieces of shrimp on top! 4. Mango sticky rice - MUST ORDER!!! One of the best I had, perfect sweet treat to end the meal. Honorable mention goes to the Thai Iced Tea. Ordered one for myself and it was finished within minutes upon sharing. Highly recommend their brunch but am sure their lunch and dinner menus can't disappoint. Service was excellent, friendly and left us wowed. Can't remember the last time a restaurant left this kind of impression on myself and my food-loving family!

Chicken Satay

Good Thai Food, Nothing Incredible I'm a firm believer that Thai food must be exceptional to warrant repeat visits. As time has gone on, Thai food places in the Charlottesville area have become more and more common, making up just over 15 restaurants. The competition in this town is fierce. Therefore, it's I've been going to Maple Pine for quite some time now. Each time, I've tried something different so that I can get a variety of items on their menu and not judge the place off of one sole dish. I've tried their Thai Hot chicken fried rice, pad thai, fresh spring rolls, chicken satay, red curry, and potentially other dishes that I'm blanking on. The best thing I've had was their Thai iced tea, which shouldn't be the highlight of your meal. The bottom line? The food is okay. You can get a better Thai meal in Charlottesville, and you likely won't have to look far to find it. The ambience here isn't anything special either. The service is honestly the real problem. I once arrived for take out to pick up two orders. The first order was ready 25 minutes before the other order, and they were ordered pretty much back-to-back. One order was cold when I got home. My family has even commented on the lack of friendliness we feel from the wait staff. Overall, Maple Fine is fine, but you deserve better and can find better elsewhere.

Kai Ka Ta Breakfast

Phenomenal and unique Thai style brunch. Everything was flavorful and filling, with great service. Also plenty of outdoor seating and air purifiers set up inside. Will definitely become a regular at this spot!

M.P. Pancake Breakfast

I have had dinner here many times. Dine in, takeout and delivery! They are always on point for dinner. I wanted to review their breakfast which is amazing! Fresh fruit served with everything, the French toast and pancakes are not your typical American style, but they are light and fluffy deliciousness! The waffles are very unique definitely more for a curious foodie palate! Would recommend! The Thia chili eggs were spicy and amazing! Definitely my new favorite breakfast spot!

It's got a kiosk to order take out if you wanted but we sat down to enjoy our food. Service was quick and friendly. The food came out well paced and coming from NoVA where there are great authentic places, we were so pleasantly satisfied after a cold day. The space is was clean, bathrooms well stocked, and we will be back when we're looking for a Chinese food fix!

I've tried everything else and knew Q Noodles is well reviewed but HK is undefeated. We ordered takeout and decided to try a few different things on their menu. I will say the food came correct and the packaging was clean and tidy. The prices are expensive but the portions are huge. We ordered 2 apps and 2 entrees and couldn't finish all of it. 1 of each is enough for 2 people. The pork steamed buns were our favorite. Not the best I've had ever, but possibly the best in cville. The bun was super light and fluffy and the filling was savory. I prefer mine to be a bit sweeter with a BBQ flavor, so not my all time fav but very good. 8/10 The egg rolls were just fine. Well prepared and cooked. Tasted slightly too oily. The inside was cabbage and either ground pork or chicken. No carrot. The inside was so finely minced it kinda turned into a mush. So the texture was not the best. Hard to distinguish the flavor as well. 5/10 The sesame paste noodles with ground pork was presented beautifully with red cabbage, cucumber, edamame, corn, shredded carrot and cilantro. I think the sesame paste sauce was just too one dimensional, but maybe that's the point. The noodles were overdone so underneath the beautiful rainbow of toppings was just kind of a pile of mushy noodles in a plain sesame paste. After a few bites the earthiness/mushiness of the dish starts to be overwhelming ... not my favorite. 4/10 The general tsos was packaged well and came with white rice a few pieces of steamed brocolli and a ramen egg. The ramen egg was good. The general tsos the chicken was good quality and very fresh. It reminded me of an orange chicken in terms of how their GT tastes. My favorite GT in cville is from Hong Kong and unfortunately this one wasn't as good. The chicken was good quality but the texture was quite soft and not crispy the way I prefer. The sauce was also a bit too sweet for my preference. Overall, a good dish it is enjoyable just not my fav. 6/10 With how much hype they get I was expecting a bit more - perhaps at some point I will try their soup dumplings since they may be the only place in cville that does them. But for $13 for 6 pieces I may just continue to wait awhile considering the rest of their food was fairly average. Overall, a solid spot for average Chinese food. Nothing amazing but will satisfy a craving for well made Chinese food if you are looking in the uva area.

As is often the case on this arcade, the restaurant also has a dedicated set of outdoor seats at the middle of the brick walkway. You'd think all of this would be an upgrade, but no. First, I ordered in advance online to spare myself a wait, not knowing that it was an actual sit-down restaurant. However, upon arriving at the space, there was no one to take an order if I'd wanted to place one, and only rarely did anyone emerge from the back with food. I just took a seat and waited. By the time someone acknowledges my presence after some fifteen or twenty minutes, my food was apparently already ready and just sitting there. I didn't leave a tip as my impression of this place was that they weren't really providing any service. There's nothing wrong with a counter service model rather than full table service, but one way or another they seem not to have figured out what they were doing. Other potential diners also seemed confused. Don't get me wrong, the good was great. My ginger lemongrass noodle soup delivered an explosion of flavors. Would order again. I just hope they improve the customer service experience, because this is a great opportunity for the average local to try some vegetarian Vietnamese food.

My girlfriend jokes that it's magical because eating it when she's sick always seems to make her feel instantly better.

Luckily we ordered fried tofu and that was absolutely amazingly delicious! They gave me some wasabi and I was in heaven. (I like heat...) The ramen broth was not very flavorful, but the noodles and veggies were nicely cooked. Servers were kind, even with the huge birthday party in the side room. Parking was a little sketchy. I ordered takeout, and a smooth process had been implemented allowing me to quickly grab it. I liked that their online ordering system had a lot of checkboxes to customize things, but was nonplussed when I pulled out my vegetable soup with the "no cauliflower" option (which they clearly wrote on the container to remind themselves) but which did in fact have a bunch of broccoli and cauliflower that imbued the soup with a sulfurous foulness that I was hoping to avoid. Setting that aside, the rest of my food was quite good. Oddly, their curries are more vegetarian-friendly than some of their stir-fry dishes. I ordered my green curry Thai hot, and they delivered a ferocious dish with no questions asked, and a small sachet of extra dried chili that I didn't need to use for this and so saved for other food. The curry with some aromatic Jasmine rice hit the spot. Some vegetable rolls with very fine noodle threads made for a good snack later. I could certainly see coming back, ordering something different, and getting high quality food.

It also came with a Sriracha sauce packet and a small container of chili oil along with the normal variety of noodles, sprouts, fresh herbs, green onions, white onions, jalapeño slices, and a lime wedge. The chicken was tender sliced white meat with no fat, gristle, or bones attached. The broth had a lot of flavor and was delicious. - I also had the shrimp and chive dumplings ($7.00). Not a strong shrimp flavor, but they had a nice crisp on the outside and were tasty. The sauce that comes with the dumplings is absolutely delicious. - My wife had the Bulgogi beef ($14.50). She said it was tender and very delicious. It came with rice, kimchi, and cucumber salad. I just happened to speak to Linh about the cucumber salad and she said this is how she's always made it for her kids and they love it. Well, I'm with her kids and love it too. This was cooked my favorite way, deep fried (not pan fried). This took me back to the gyoza in Japan and the Yaki Mandu I used to get in Korea. Great crispy wrapper with a tender flavorful filling. Overall, we really enjoyed Nguyen's Kitchen and will go back with friends. It's unfortunate that it sits behind a Taco Bell and is not highly noticeable from the road, otherwise I might have tried it sooner.
