I'm not a fan of coconut milk & its sweetness, so most items off my radar but their curries without coconut milk & with Thai chilis. I ordered a chicken curry supposedly with a low level of coconut milk but it was still very sweet & NOT spicy hot. We got takeout so I can't vouch for the server or the overall atmosphere. I'm visiting from CA so it is unlikely I will ever have need to return to this place, especially since they don't have my favorite Angel Wings. read more

We arrived around 12:30PM on a Thursday in July. Parking is abundant as the restaurant is located in the Rio Hill Center near Kroger. Being in a strip mall, we expected the interior to be fairly plain; however, it has an Asian decor and is welcoming. About half of the tables were taken. We were seated immediately but it took about 5 minutes or so before our waitress appeared. We asked for the chicken spring rolls but they were out of them, so we skipped the appetizer. They have a very limited alcohol selection - a few beers and wine (that's all it said so no idea what kind). We both had an IPA from Three Notch'd Brewery which is a local establishment. The food menu is varied and contains all the familiar Thai selections along with a couple of chef specials. I ordered the Chicken Panang Curry. The waitress informed me that it did not contain any vegetables, but they could add some which I agreed to. She didn't mention an upcharge but there was one. My husband ordered the Kapao Catfish. The catfish was fried in small pieces. It was served on a cute fish plate with broccoli and other vegetables. Both dishes were very fresh and tasty. We had more than enough to take home leftovers. We would definitely recommend the food. The service, however, was a bit scattered, and they were slow to pick up dirty plates. read more

I was told that this is a good place. So far the inside looks pretty clean and comfortable. Their menu is pretty massive but its big print should make it easy for the hard to see people. I'm trying the Spring Roll appetizer and I'm going to try the Thai Fried Rice with chicken as my meat choice. The waitress recommended it. I also got hot green tea. The cup is a little awkward to use but there's really no taste difference between it and hot water. The spring rolls taste like they are store bought not made in house. The fried rice is good but if you don't like spicy stuff then make sure to tell them. I got mine mild maybe medium hot. It definitely has some good flavor. I just wish they would have cut some of the ingredients a little bit more bite size. The bathroom looks good and smells nice. Next time I will have to try something different for a comparison. read more

I'm quite unsure what has happened here. I have been a loyal customer for years. However, in recent visits, I've been really disappointed. The food quality has changed. The consistency is non-existent. The wait staff, only 2 women, are overwhelmed with call-in orders and clearing tables. They aren't able to refill water, have any sort of small talk, or explain the menu. I'm sad to report this, and I hope it gets better. Good Thai food is hard to find around here read more

Beautiful, intimate place! We had a large family meal here, and it hit the spot! Light piano music in background, pretty waterfall decorations, and excellent food. They have a nice variety in their menu. We tried some pad Thai, satay, massaman curry, and fried rice. The Lime Leaf noodles with beef and shrimp was very good with a great ratio of proteins to vegetables. Thai iced tea was a bit on the sweet side but overall, this is authentic Thai food. It's also nice that there is the ample, free parking and barely a wait time. We would definitely return! read more

I had drunkin' noodles for take out from Lime Leaf a few days ago. It was fresh, flavorful and full of a good amount of fried tofu and veggies. I was joined by my sister, brother-i-law and niece visiting from CA. Everyone enjoyed their dishes!. I recently moved into Charlottesville from Nelson county. Been here 3 times. First two pretty good, but Americanized. Last visit I ordered Pad Thai. Weird texture and a brown sauce that was awful, nothing like what I am accustomed to. I asked the waitress if they used any vinegar and she said no, "house recipe." I told her that I would prefer something else and she basically would not take it back. Said she would have to personally pay for it if I didn't accept it. I finally placed it on another empty table and then she took it. It was just ok. First impression is that clientele was 80% elderly. The menus were extra, extra big with hug type which explains some of the appeal. If you don't want to use "readers", this is the place for you. I had the curry and husband had some soup/appetizers. Food was fine, but service was non-existent. We waited 20 minutes or so for anyone to come by. The food runner brought everything, including aps, at the same time and then was gone. No one checked on us for the rest of the meal so if you need anything else- a refill, a missing item, more napkins- you're out of luck. They were also slow to bring the check/return the card/etc. We noticed on the check a deceptive billing practice of charging for the rice for the entree separately. I honestly thought browsing the menu that Lime Leaf was a little more reasonable than other places in town, but the added rice fee evens it out a little. I wish they would just bundle it to be a bit more upfront about pricing. Charlotteville has a bunch of decent Thai options now so I don't think we'll be returning. read more

Lime Leaf has an unassuming presence in this strip mall. It was my first time here and I give it 5 stars. The decor was relaxing, clean and inviting. Our server was prompt in taking and delivering our orders. Even though we were only drinking water, she checked back for refills. High marks for the food quality and value. We shared appetizers including vegetable rolls and a shrimp tempura which included carrot and broccoli tempura. My entree was the lime leaf noodle and I asked for it vegetarian with fried tofu. The Lime Leaf is definitely one of my top three places for Thai food in Charlottesville. I do like the peaceful decor and atmosphere inside of the Lime Leaf. It is one of my main reasons for going to the Lime Leaf, but their food is also really good. All of their rice dishes and stirfry dishes are mouthwatering. They do a fair amount of take-out as well. This place is near a grocery store and in an unassuming location, but the inside of it is a lot more relaxing and peaceful than you may expect if you only look at the location and outside of it. They do tend to have certain hours and days when they are not open, so I always double check that before I go here. read more

Honestly, been here several times through the years but this time we were very disappointed in the quality of the food and presentation. One issue in Charlottesville is inconsistency at a lot of restaurants-- a good meal one time, not good the next, or a completely different preparation. Very unpredictable. The thai food I ordered here was very gross. They put the same mushy vegetable mix (corn, broccoli, cauliflower, mushrooms, and green beans) in both my green curry and pad see ew; I've never had pad see ew with anything more than carrots, broccoli, and onion in it so that was extra surprising. I definitely think the vegetables were from a frozen bag because they were all totally soggy and had a weird smell. I ended up throwing the curry away, but it was brown rather than green. That usually means they use the same old liquid for all the curries and just add some curry paste to each order depending on the color. I loved my pretty Chicken Pad Thai with its so instagramable sections of vegetables and nuts and beef. Lime Leaf holds a special place in my heart, I've been there for a lot of family dinners and they always do a great job. Before covid, I loved to eat there because inside is really beautiful, very classy and peaceful. The Thai tea is great, and the pad see ew, drunken noodles and pad Thai are all incredible. The green curry is great as well. For someone who likes to eat meatless, like leaf has veggie and tofu options for nearly anything and is a great choice for a vegan or vegetarian. Lime leaf is hands down the best Thai in charlottesville. I love there pad kapao. All the curries are delicious and the pad Thai is scrumptious. Both the Tom kha and Tom yum soups have great flavor. I usually get chicken add vegetables to whatever I order - the veggies are very fresh with a little crunch still and they don't charge extra for the added veggies. I stopped by this wonderful restaurant after a visiting friends 2/17/23 the food was out of this world! I wish Lynchburg had a place like this. We were greeted very warmly at the door and came into a very relaxing environment,she was very quick to get drinks and an appetizer, we ordered the satay chicken, and the Thai tea is amazing! I ordered the pad Thai and finished every single bit of it. I enjoyed this restaurant so much that I brought a group back Sunday the 19th!! This is a one dish peak experience review. And I DO mean a peak experience. * * * Most of the dishes at Lime Leaf are fairly mild and are adjusted for American tastes. They do however have a small number of blow-the-top-of-your-head-off items. The waitress warns you about these if you order them. One of these dishes is a stand-out: the Pad Ped Jay. (You can substitute any of the dishes that have "Ped" in the name. Note that the middle word is "Ped" not "Pad".) Pad Ped Jay dish is blazing hot - but not with any flavors that you are used to. It is a combination of several kinds of braised chilis on one hand With whole branches of green peppercorns on the other. (Peppercorns grow on branch-like twigs. Each branch has about twenty to thirty peppercorns on it. Lime Leaf puts multiple branches in this dish.) There are a ton of peppercorns in the dish. They are all edible and cooked through. To imagine the taste, pretend you combined a super-strong version of the black pepper coating on a steak au poivre - With a truckload of Thai chili and spice. The flavor is like no other I have ever had in any Thai restaurant. The actual chilis after braising are mild compared to the peppercorns. The sauce is raging fire. The vegetables are completely infused with the fire - but NOT with the sauce. So in this inferno, every vegetable maintains its own unique flavor. This makes every bite of vegetable different. The sauce has many flavors from other ingredients that are independent of the chilis and peppercorns. This means that every spoonful of the sauce tastes completely different. All this not withstanding, the dish is still blazingly hot. By the 15% mark on this dish - you will be in pain. Your nose will stuff. Your ears will fill with what your nose can't hold. Conversation will come to a complete halt. Every new bite will be a battle between you and the dish. Every new bite will taste different than the last bite. It will be a world of flavors - each one fire-y hot. I carefully rationed my rice. I drank tons of ice water and sweet creamy coffee. Wisely, I saved the fried tofu which I had ordered as an appetizer to use instead as a fire extinguisher for the most painful moments. Every endorphin in my body was raging. There was never the slightest thought of a safe word. There was never the slightest thought of quitting early. Each fire-y penetration took my life-state to a higher level. Each fire-y penetration crossed a new horizon. Each world beyond each new horizon was different. I left the restaurant drained and satisfied. * * * And the nicest footnote to all of this? My Pad Ped Jay cost $9.95. There are men who pay far more for painful peak experiences. read more

Definitely one of Charlottesville's best Thai restaurants! The food is on point and the flavor is absolutely amazing! I ordered the stir fried noodle with beef and loved every single bite! The noodles had such a nice, chewy consistency and the beef was to die for. The flavor is strong and mouthwatering. There is the perfect amount of sweetness and saltiness! I also love how much vegetables they put in! The cabbage and broccoli as well as the lettuce and carrots were great additions to the juicy beef! My boyfriend got the chicken pad Thai and that tasted delicious too! Like the stir fried noodles, it has a lot of veggies mixed in it and the flavor is on the sweeter side. They put a lot of peanuts to give the dish a nice crunch! Ambiance was great! Good decorations and the seats were spaced perfectly so that we felt like there was some privacy. The server was attentive and they gave us our food pretty quickly. Prices were very reasonable and parking is convenient! Overall, fantastic place to satisfy your craving for Thai food! Lime Leaf came highly recommended by my local friends who have basically tried almost every Thai restaurant in Charlottesville and we came here with a group of friends this weekend. I was highly impressed by the interior; every detail, from the chandeliers to the table centerpieces, was beautifully done and not overly gaudy. The waitress appeared a little frazzled when we needed chopsticks or more water or takeout boxes because it seemed like they were understaffed and she had to dash around to wait on all of the tables, but overall we received good service. I ordered the Lime Leaf Noodles ($10.95 for beef/chicken/pork) because I wanted the extra-wide noodles, and others ordered vegetable curry, pad see ew and pad thai. Our food arrived at all different times so we ended up waiting for the whole table to receive our dishes. The Lime Leaf noodles arrived with a lot more sauce than I expected, but was otherwise was delicious. I enjoyed the stir-fried flat wide rice noodles and the plentiful red bell peppers, scallions, basil leaves, and ground beef. I had asked the waitress for the mildest spiciness level, but even the mildest had some serious heat to it. The sauce, though soupier than I expected, definitely made this dish unique, with a rich tangy flavor. If I come back again I'll definitely try the pad see ew, which is usually my favorite thing to order at all Thai restaurants! read more
