So, we are staying at friend's house near Charlottesville and we wanted Thai food. This place delivers via Uber Eats, which is a huge plus. My thoughts? What's worst than bad Thai food? No Thai food at all....and thus is my review. Food (3 out of 5): We ordered the Chicken Panang Curry and Pad See Ew beef. The panning curry was my favorite of the two entrees. The chicken itself was tender and good, the broth was far too thin to be a good curry, but the flavor itself wasn't too bad. It was unfortunate that it did not look like the photo, it was missing the red peppers and the basil leaves. The Pad See Ew beef....well, I am a huge fan of this dish and get it every possible moment. This one was definitely not my favorite - the sauce itself was a bit too "fishy" for my taste. The noodles were pretty mushy by the time they arrived and they seemed to be the dry rice noodles (not the fresh ones.). The beef itself, which is a $3 upcharge, was good, though.. So, I would order the curry again and perhaps order a non-noodle dish next time.... but I would order again, with my expectations in check. I ordered the drunken noodles with chicken and the Nam Tok beef salad for takeout. Both were solid. The drunken noodles were really saucy and flavorful. The beef salad had a nice fish sauce flavor to it. I would get both of them again. We also got the mango sticky rice. Apparently the blue rice is colored naturally, which is a plus for me. It tasted pretty good. I can't say I have had many mango sticky rices, but the mango was nice and ripe and the sticky rice was good. I liked how it wasn't too sweet. The absolute worst Thai food I've ever had! If you look at what I ordered and what I received, it literally looks like 2 different dishes. It was just peanut curry and dry ass chicken. Pro: online ordering. Con: food. Passed by this restaurant frequently and decided to finally give this place a try after seeing the many decent reviews here on yelp. I used the online ordering system and got the drunken noodle with chicken and the pad Thai with pork. The drunken noodle was decent with a bit of heat. The biggest disappointment was the pad Thai, it was bland and dry. Waste of 15 dollar the drain. All in all, with one decent and one terrible food it equal to a two star rating of below average but not the worst food I ever had. Got the beef salad and the drunken noodle with chicken, duck wrap, and mango sticky rice. Everything was delicious. The salad and noodle was very delicious and flavorful. Maybe the noodles were a tad oily but otherwise it was delicious. I felt the duck wrap could have used more hoisin, I have had better duck wrap. The sticky rice color is blue which is a little odd. 6 of us had dinner here. We had a variety of items on the menu. The crispy duck was dry. One of us had pineapple duck that was so spicy she had to swap it out for Thai Pad. The spring rolls were delicious. Peanut sauce had ginger in it which made it tasty. We ordered appetizers but the food came out so fast that the table was overloaded; and all the food didn't come out the same time. Two of our party didn't get their good for 5-10 minutes after everyone else had started. There was only one waitress who took our order. The food was served by the kitchen staff. After a long wait, silk has finally reopened and it is truly better than ever. We ordered Thai pretty regularly in my family and love all the local spots, but this just completely blew them away. DO NOT COME TO THIS RESTAURANT AND RUN AWAY BECAUSE This is actually the worst experience I've had dining in a restaurant in my life. The food I ordered tasted like actual vomit for some reason, the food portion was disappointing, and the wait time "for the waiter to come back to take our order" was more than three times the amount that we had both agreed upon. The table was rather small, and the worst part came when it came to the tips. When I selected no tip due to such extremely frustrating experience, the old lady simply went back to the counter to grab a slip and asked me to order takeout if I wasn't going to tip. This is unbelievably rude since after such frustrating experience, the restaurant does not even recognize their own mistake and instead pushed them back on the customer. Very bad experience with owner. The handheld device was difficult to use and charged me $20 instead of $2 tip for a $11 entree which is not a bad tip. The owner retorted by chastising me for not using the device properly and that I gave only a $2 tip. What world are these people living in. I had the beef red curry (not a surprise there) delicious and creamy as usual. Hubby had the spicy basil chicken dish so tasty with that smoky flavor I love from the wok. Their Thai green curry with tofu is one of my favorite dishes and I prefer theirs to all of the other thai restaurants in Charlottesville. Silk is our go-to Thai spot in Cville because of the quality and quantity of food. Their prices are more than I'd like to pay but I do anyway because the other restaurants in town are about the same if not more expensive. Tons of veg options. We love the drunken noodles, green curry, tom kha, and papaya salad. My favorite app is the tofu summer rolls--that peanut sauce is the perfect ratio of peanuty, sweet, and salty. My date and I got a few things to share including: -Green curry with chicken: I love love love green curry and have raided Charlottesville during the last few years to find the best green curry. This curry has become my favorite in Charlottesville. It's so flavorful, creamy and just delicious. The basil in this dish gives it a nice kick of flavor. I definitely recommend this dish. -Drunken noodles with beef: This dish has so much flavor. The noodles are cooked perfectly with a nice char and chewy texture. The beef is also tender and well seasoned. -Calamari: This calamari is interesting. I've never had calamari like it before. The dish comes with pieces of calamari and fried baby squids. Additionally, it comes with fried bell peppers. -Thai tea: One of the best I've ever had. It comes in such a big glass with whip cream on top! Presentation and taste on point. At the end of our meal, the owner gave us a complimentary dessert: fried banana rolls with vanilla ice cream. It was pretty good! The rolls were crunchy and the ice cream complimented them very well. Overall, I'd highly recommend this restaurant. The portions are huge and the prices are reasonable. I'm happy that I live so close to this place and can easily swing by whenever I crave Thai food. Bonus, it's open on Sunday evenings, when traditionally many local restaurants are closed, so head over on a weekend night to satisfy your Southeast Asian food cravings! There is a small parking lot in front of the restaurant, but it can often be full. Fear not! There is reasonable street parking just in front of the restaurant. The restaurant itself is spacious, and I never have trouble getting seated in a timely fashion. The servers are attentive, and our food came out in timely manner, without much of wait. I appreciated how they paid attention to whether we wanted water with ice, water no ice, or warm water. (Always a pet peeve of mine when servers would bring water with ice when I explicitly asked for no ice.) I had the eggplant basil main dish. The eggplants were fried to perfection, then mixed with a great soy sauce-based sauce. The jasmine rice was fragrant and complemented the eggplant dish. In the place of Thai '99, which I avoided at all costs, Silk Thai is like a phoenix risen from the ashes. Ambience- the interior is newly renovated with fresh wall color and extremely clean/cute. There is a current winter theme to the decorations. Food-came out fast and was delicious. Price is on par with other places up 29 that are further out of town. Papaya salad- shrimp were delicious and ample amounts of flavor as well as bulk of papaya. Crispy duck -boneless, well textured, and flavorful with crisp basil and peppers Eggplant basil- fried, stir fried and then topped with crispy basil. Honestly I prefer eggplant with less breading but this dish was still delicious Kao poi - I asked the server his favorite noodle dish and he recommended this. Chicken and noodles with crispy noodles topped with coconut curry like sauce and sour veggies -yum Minus for the flavorless tea my friend ordered. I love Thai food and I decided to treat myself to some as a reward for my several hours studying at the library tonight. Luckily for me, Silk Thai is open until 9 pm and the library closed at 8:30 pm. I'm not new to Silk Thai but it was my first time returning in a while. I ordered the drunken noodles with chicken and a tom yum soup with chicken. The tom yum is standard. Silk Thai's drunken noodles are awesome. The dish is consistently flavorful and contains a good portion. I usually get the drunken noodles with crispy duck but my college budget led me to opting for chicken tonight because of the additional cost for the duck. However, if you choose to eat inside the restaurant then don't let the additional price discourage you from ordering the crispy duck because it is amazing and can be worth the price. In my previous experiences ordering takeout from Silk Thai, I have found that the crispy duck loses its crispness in the take out process, therefore I opted for chicken this time around. What stops me from giving Silk Thai a full five stars is the inconsistency of some of their other basic Thai dishes. Although they have one of the best drunken noodles I have tasted, the Pad Thai is not very good and lacks flavor. Overall, I recommend the drunken noodles and other select dishes-- particularly the crispy duck. I do not come for the Pad Thai. read more

This was so unexpected!! We have been dying for some good Thai, some other nearby restaurants either haven't been successful or we're not open to our unexpected delight!! They were very nice, very fast. Everything was hot and fresh. The silk calamari was so delicious. It had veggies, it had spice. Definitely get this over the regular calamari! The red curry!! I ate this as a soup! Will definitely be getting again. Pad Thai was delicious, not necessarily special but meets the craving definitely and will definitely be part of our standing order. I've gotten Silk Thai to go for a dozen times since they replaced Thai 99. I've had a couple good experiences but in general I've been disappointed. Their Tom yum soup tastes really bland (missing a major ingredient or seasoning is off) and recently I got a red curry that was at least 20% grease and the coconut milk had curdled, which is unfathomable to me how the chef would allow the dish to be served! Tom yum and curries should be staples in Thai food, to mess them up is a huge failure. I really wish they could step up or be more consistent because I could eat Thai everyday. Update in Jan 2019: Had another negative experience with Silk Thai. This time they screwed up the order; I asked for extra vegetables ($2 charge) and got a pathetic amount, instead a container full of tasteless chicken. Seriously.
