They recently started serving sushi which was okay; would probably recommend some other restaurant if you're looking for sushi. As fast as the ambience is concerned, it's a small with limited seating and a very young staff. you might want to consider ordering carryout because this place is usually full and parking is not free on-site. Yummy Thai food on the Corner. Nothing exceptional, but good food and reasonable prices. Staff is friendly and responsive. I ordered the Thai fried rice with beef (mild) and was shocked by the heat. I would recommend mild or no spice is you're not too fond of chilli and/or have a low spice tolerance. I usually order mild/medium without a problem, but this place is no joke. The fried rice was yummy, aside from the heat and the beef, which was a bit chewy. I enjoyed the spring rolls. Unfortunately, I noticed the sweet and sour sauce at the bottom of the container too late. I was happily surprised with the tempura cheesecake. By the time I placed my order, the whip cream had melted and I was afraid the cheesecake would be soggy, but it actually maintained a crisp until I got home. It was the exact treat I was hoping it would be, and came with gooey fruit syrup. As for COVID guidelines, it seems like the staff is good about wearing masks and avoiding food contamination. I've been here multiple times. Great location as it's one of the few walkable STABLE restaurants near the Grounds. A lot of restaurants on the Corner had gone through major changes during 5 years I've been at UVA but Lemongrass wasn't one of them. It's because it has reasonable price for good food and nice iterior. I usually get pad tai but today I tried curry. The server asked me how spicy I want in scale of 1 to 10 and I thought 6 wouldn't be too spicy. I'm not gonna lie, it was spicy. I had to sip the milk tea with every bite of the curry dish, but it was still delicious. The brown rice was cooked very well and had purple rice mixed in to give pretty color to the rice. The chicken appetizer that we got was a little dry but the sweet and sour sauce accompanied the chicken very well. I love the lunch specials, especially the noodle bowl for $8, which can normally last me two meals since they pack in so much noodles, veggies, and chicken. Their chicken panang is amazing, they give you a pretty big portion, although its served on a bed of cabbage so just say "no cabbage" and you'll be good. This is one of the few Thai places near UVA, and currently the only one to my knowledge that serves Thai on the Corner. I've been here several times and I've tried every single one of the appetizers, Tom Yum soup, chicken and tofu Pad See Ew, chicken Pad Thai, yellow curry, orange chicken dish, and so forth. One of the menu items I love the most is actually a side: their signature jasmine rice with coconut undertone. It's unusual in a good way. I find that it gives their spicy dishes a nice counter flavor I haven't had often. A few times now I've simply ordered an extra of it because it's made for a nice left over! I like this place because it's convenient and offers affordable lunch dishes that range from $8 and up. I wish they would make their portion sizes slightly larger, add a few more traditional Thai soups, and offer broader appetizer options. This Thai/Viet restaurant is nestled in a college town (we kept seeing shirtless dudes running around as we were trying to find parking). Service was prompt, courteous and friendly. We came here on the tail end of a road trip and ordered the mango tofu with brown rice. (I usually default to curry, so I was ~*trying something new.*~) It'd been forever and a day since I'd had Thai food, so this really hit the spot. :] We also split a mango with sticky rice, which was good, although the black rice they used wasn't actually sticky rice. Spiciness scale is out of 10 (although I'm pretty sure no one would be able to tell the difference between, say...4 and 5, or 6 and 7). For Thai food, this place is decent for being in C-ville. The food is good enough to satisfy a Thai food craving but by far nothing spectacular. I haven't tried the pho here yet but it seems questionable as this is Charlottesville and it's a fusion restaurant. If you're not picky with your pho and could care less if it's authentic I'm sure it'd be good. But again, this is coming from someone who hasn't tried the pho here yet. I find their scaling of spiciness a bit amusing in that even if I give a relatively low number like a 3 out of 10 I got a spiciness level of a 6. They have a really convenient location on the corner, but their food is not good. They have a mix of Vietnamese and Thai dishes on their menu and even feature pho [Vietnamese noodle soup] during the weekends. Unfortunately, I have not liked anything that I have tried here and if I can help it, I avoid this place. Their drunken noodles taste average but the noodles are hopelessly stuck together; their pho has no depth of flavor [and they're skimpy on the sprouts, greens, and hoisin sauce]; and their curries are just as sad [overcooked everything floating in coconut milk]. Unfortunately, Charlottesville doesn't really have many good Thai places near the campus and there aren't any other Vietnamese restaurants in the city. So there isn't much competition to force Lemongrass to improve their dishes. As long as there are students who find the food acceptable, they sadly won't have any need to make their food better. While in Cville, my favorite spot for Thai was Lime Leaf. Even though it was far, the food was worth the trip. This place is a tiny gem in Charlottesville close to the hospital. The menu is fairly small but they have both Thai and Japanese options and the portions were very large! Okay, so this is a must read! On 10/17 around 8:15 pm, I was staying at the Marriott courtyard around the corner), I decided that I could not bear another night of eating at a Courtyard, I used Yelp to help locate a close restaurant. I truly didn't have a cuisine in mind, it was starting to turn chilly out so I just decided I would go to somewhere close-within walking distance. So needless to say, there's a Mexican place RIGHT across the street... HOWEVER, I had Mexican (in another nearby city), for lunch and just couldn't have it back to back! The reviews in this place looked good, I love Thai so I chose this location. Walked out of hotel, headed left and arrived quickly. Please note... it was exactly 8:25 pm when I arrived. The gentleman who greeted me was very nice, told me I could sit wherever I wanted and he would be right back! He did what he stated, he came back, gave me an empty water cup and Silverware. Within about 2 minutes, he came back, wiped my table down, provided water and provided a drink & food menu. Very prompt and attention to detail. I was VERY aware from yelp that this location closes at 9 pm and as I've already stated it Was 8:25 pm when I arrived. I ordered a Malbec, $16 and also went ahead and ordered my favorite Thai dish, red chicken curry! The gentleman ( I don't recall his name) brought out the wine I ordered (I was not aware it would be a small 1/2 bottle- that's my fault, great deal ) and truly within. 5 minutes, my food arrived! Fantastic... great timing, love it! I could get in and out! As I was eating, a lady came by and asked if I needed anything else. Prior to this question, This same lady, pulled the plug for the open flashing sign on the front... which was a que/sign to me... they wanted to get out of here on time-completely understandable. I get it for sure! Sign says you close at 9 so at about 8:45 pm, it's appropriate to shut off the open sign. Well since the wine I ordered was a mini bottle (Malbec), and there was no way I could Finish it in the limited amount of time left, I inquired if the wine could be taken out! I Was told-as long as it was in a bag.. and they provided a bag... cool... since it's paid for... no need to throw it out! So when she came back to the table with a plastic bag, I inquired if I could have it corked-with the original cork... I wasn't asking for anything special! Now here's where it gets interesting... I literally saw the gentleman go INTO the TRASH to grab the cork! Yes... I said the trash... although it was on top, he didn't have to dig... so I'm not sure what communication went on between the female and male working there but all I know... I turned around once seeing this and just asked for a cup... no I wouldn't take a cork that has been in the trash... on top or not! So thank you to the female working that I'm assuming told him that he could not give that dirty cork back to me. So a few things... I know you've already read enough... Food was fantastic... next time if it's late, I will get my food to go! If you buy wine, make sure it's not within 30 minutes of closing unless you can gulp it down extra fast! When your cork is removed, ask if you personally if you can keep it-in case you need it later! Lemongrass is a pretty good place to go on the Corner. It's convenient, if you live in the area or are coming from grounds, but there's really no parking except for the paid garage above. It's a bit small and can get crowded during lunch. It's not the most refined restaurant but it's a great atmosphere. The food is good. Thai food is one of my favorites, and I'd say Lemongrass is good but not the best I've had. I usually order Pad See Ew with beef. I think the flavors are good but I found it a bit strange the first time around eating it with kale and not chinese broccoli. It's a good portion though, I usually have some to take home afterward. The service is usually good, it probably helps that the place is pretty small. The staff is polite and efficient. The biggest thing that I noticed about the atmosphere was that it felt kind of "home made". There were signs on taped on the walls with handwritten menu/dessert items. I guess that's kind of expected from a mom n pop place, but I think Lemongrass could easily elevate its brand and attract more business, especially being on the corner. read more

As expected they were doing brisk business and the place was packed. However, turn over was pretty quick and we were seated in about 20 minutes. Service was prompt and friendly. Don't expect a lot of alcohol options but I was able to get some decent white wine to go with the meal. In regards to food, I ordered some rolls and the chicken pad thai. The food came out fast and I really enjoyed both. Everyone else at the table enjoyed their meals as well. This Thai/Japanese/Vietnamese restaurant is conveniently located by the corner. There's street parking available at times or if you're unlucky and can't find a spot, there's always a pay for parking garage. Lemongrass is awesome because it has a wide selection of dishes- curries, sushis, noodles, Poke bowls, you name it! The prices are reasonable (around $10 or less) and service is good. We started off with the green papaya salad and absolutely loved it! The green papaya shreds were crunchy and super fresh; combined with the vinegar and daiso sauce, it made for the perfect summer appetizer! Each bite was tart and refreshing. The shrimp crackers that came with it were delicious and crunchy, too. My boyfriend got the chicken pad thai and he really enjoyed it. The noodles were chewy and it was definitely spicy enough (thai hot!). It's a tad sweeter compared to the pad thais at other Thai restaurants. I got the Miso Soup ramen and was impressed! They only have this special for weekends so I was really looking forward to it. The noodles were well cooked and not soggy and overly soft at all. Each bite had a nice chewy consistency. The boiled egg and the bean sprouts were great additions. The miso soup was very flavorful. It was a tad salty for me, but the dish was still very delicious. They gave me two large pork slices. It was seasoned well but I thought the pork was too fatty. Still an amazing ramen bowl, though! The sushi rolls were priced quite well, actually. My family and I came here for dinner on a whim during St. Paddy's day weekend. Luckily, the dinner rush came right after us. So for those of you new to the area, and are unsure of parking... There is a parking garage right on top of the restaurant. And to my surprise, there was plenty of parking when my family and I went to have dinner! So that was a plus. So onto the restaurant and dinner... Lemongrass is a very small restaurant. It's very modest and minimalistic in decor, but comfortable. We were greeted and seated immediately. If you have a party over 6, I suggest calling ahead and letting them know that you guys are coming. I am not sure if they take reservations, but it wouldn't hurt to call ahead because they seem to get very busy. We ordered the calamari as an appetizer, which was okay for me. It wasn't a traditional calamari that I was used to. The breading wasn't as crisp as I would have liked, and instead of tartar sauce and lemon, it was served with thai chili sauce. But we ate it all. I ordered the Tom Yum Soup with shrimp, which was SUPERB! I've lived all over the contry (including Los Angeles, Houston, Seattle, Dallas, Las Vegas), and this Tom Yum Soup is definitely top 3 for me. We also ordered the Pad See Ew with chicken which I liked a lot. It wasn't salty, watery, bland, or had soggy noodles. It was flavorful, and well balanced in seasoning and texture. I loved that they made it with kale. We also ordered the sesame chicken. We loved that it wasn't heavily breaded and deep fried. the sauce was flavorful.
