    Basil Fried Rice ***

Excellent Thai spot in Cville! I had been passing by Chang Thai for a few years now and was excited to pop in for lunch. The restaurant is modern and spacious with both indoor and outdoor seating. I was instantly given a table and began ordering my favorite Thai dishes - Spicy Basil Fried Rice with a Thai Tea. I was also happy to see they had Pho on the menu and got myself a bowl. The fried rice is PHENOMENAL! Truly one of the best I have ever had. It a great portion with lots of flavor and an intense spice. The tea paired perfectly providing a soft sweetness to balance out the meal. As for the Pho, it did the job. I felt it was a little on the blander side, but sriracha can always help with that! Will 100% be back to Chang Thai!

Awesome restaurant. We were looking for a dinner spot that was more casual but still nice. This was the perfect place. Inside was well-furnished with flattering wooden accents and cool light fixtures. They did a good job with the space, making it feel warm&vibrant. I ordered the chicken red curry at a 4/5 spice level. It was yummy and had a nice kick to it. I also had a Thai iced tea which was great. Service was good. Overall, super solid place to grab dinner. I recommend!

Solid experience. Came on a Fri night around 7PM and they had a few tables open. A little awkward upon arrival as there is no host station and we didn't have anyone greet us upon arrival....so weren't sure what to do. I think they were maybe a little short staffed. Would have liked to see more local beer options....but they beer they had was priced more affordable. My bride ordered the Mango Curry ($18) and really liked the flavor, but commented that it was missing two of the ingredients listed on the menu (no snow peas or cashews). I ordered Green Curry ($15) and it hit the mark. Service was good as the staff was hopping to keep up. We would come back again when in the area.

It is embedded in the new suburban sprawl and not the old pretty Charlottesville, which is about the only thing I have to say against this restaurant. The space was a splendid two-level building, and I received quick service. They offer to make many dishes on their menu vegan (though I wish this was marked more clearly), which is a key issue. I ordered some dumplings which were delicious and were delivered with a little crudite and an impressive chili sauce. My tofu dish was fresh, with a robust portion and what tasted like a higher-quality than average tofu with a rich, nutty flavor. The preparation emphasized garlic and basil and it's always interesting how cuisines from completely different parts of the world echo each other. For a minute there, I felt like I was eating something Italian. But whatever it was, it was delicious.

Pro: moderate size parking lot, delivery app, outdoor dining option, clean interior. Con: low staffing. Was initially going to eat at another restaurant but an acquaintance wanted to come here instead. The restaurant has a moderate size parking lot and offer delivery app ordering so that is a plus. Upon entering we were to told to sit anywhere. The interior is on the older side but clean. For appetizer, I had the wonton soup and for my entree I had the drunken noodles. The wonton broth was lacking in seasoning and for the price of 7.99 that was a bit underwhelming. The drunken noodles had a good taste to it, portion size was good, and the spice level was tolerable. This place could use atleast 1 more staff because the foot traffic here is busy and with only two waiter it took a long time for someone to bring us a check. All in all, it was ok experience here but with so many Thai food restaurants around the Charlottesville area I had better.

I door dashed so I can't speak to the service or restaurant vibe but I know that this was some of the best if not THE best pad see ewe I've had in my life! Unbelievably good!!

I have been back here a number of times and tried a few different things and everytime I've been the food has been really solid. The prices are great and the portions are huge. Definitely a contender for the best Thai place in cville. Service can be a little slow/kinda abrasive otherwise I generally enjoy coming here. They are always pretty busy and inside is really cute. Usually able to find seating immediately for less than 5 people. The Bangkok combo is awesome, the ginger perfect is great. My favorite thing on the menu is the pattaya noodle because I love seafood. The portion is great and the flavor on the noddles can't be beat. The lad na, pad see ew, pad Thai, drunken noodle and arkannay noodle are also all good. You can't really go wrong. Overall this is a great place in cville for Thai and I will happily go back again in the future.

If your taste buds call out for Thai, bring them here! Downstairs seating is kinda small but we were lucky to get a table for two. The food was very colorful and tasted great! We even ordered an entree for home.

I've tried everything else and knew Q Noodles is well reviewed but HK is undefeated. We ordered takeout and decided to try a few different things on their menu. I will say the food came correct and the packaging was clean and tidy. The prices are expensive but the portions are huge. We ordered 2 apps and 2 entrees and couldn't finish all of it. 1 of each is enough for 2 people. The pork steamed buns were our favorite. Not the best I've had ever, but possibly the best in cville. The bun was super light and fluffy and the filling was savory. I prefer mine to be a bit sweeter with a BBQ flavor, so not my all time fav but very good. 8/10 The egg rolls were just fine. Well prepared and cooked. Tasted slightly too oily. The inside was cabbage and either ground pork or chicken. No carrot. The inside was so finely minced it kinda turned into a mush. So the texture was not the best. Hard to distinguish the flavor as well. 5/10 The sesame paste noodles with ground pork was presented beautifully with red cabbage, cucumber, edamame, corn, shredded carrot and cilantro. I think the sesame paste sauce was just too one dimensional, but maybe that's the point. The noodles were overdone so underneath the beautiful rainbow of toppings was just kind of a pile of mushy noodles in a plain sesame paste. After a few bites the earthiness/mushiness of the dish starts to be overwhelming ... not my favorite. 4/10 The general tsos was packaged well and came with white rice a few pieces of steamed brocolli and a ramen egg. The ramen egg was good. The general tsos the chicken was good quality and very fresh. It reminded me of an orange chicken in terms of how their GT tastes. My favorite GT in cville is from Hong Kong and unfortunately this one wasn't as good. The chicken was good quality but the texture was quite soft and not crispy the way I prefer. The sauce was also a bit too sweet for my preference. Overall, a good dish it is enjoyable just not my fav. 6/10 With how much hype they get I was expecting a bit more - perhaps at some point I will try their soup dumplings since they may be the only place in cville that does them. But for $13 for 6 pieces I may just continue to wait awhile considering the rest of their food was fairly average. Overall, a solid spot for average Chinese food. Nothing amazing but will satisfy a craving for well made Chinese food if you are looking in the uva area.

As is often the case on this arcade, the restaurant also has a dedicated set of outdoor seats at the middle of the brick walkway. You'd think all of this would be an upgrade, but no. First, I ordered in advance online to spare myself a wait, not knowing that it was an actual sit-down restaurant. However, upon arriving at the space, there was no one to take an order if I'd wanted to place one, and only rarely did anyone emerge from the back with food. I just took a seat and waited. By the time someone acknowledges my presence after some fifteen or twenty minutes, my food was apparently already ready and just sitting there. I didn't leave a tip as my impression of this place was that they weren't really providing any service. There's nothing wrong with a counter service model rather than full table service, but one way or another they seem not to have figured out what they were doing. Other potential diners also seemed confused. Don't get me wrong, the good was great. My ginger lemongrass noodle soup delivered an explosion of flavors. Would order again. I just hope they improve the customer service experience, because this is a great opportunity for the average local to try some vegetarian Vietnamese food.

I ordered takeout, and a smooth process had been implemented allowing me to quickly grab it. I liked that their online ordering system had a lot of checkboxes to customize things, but was nonplussed when I pulled out my vegetable soup with the "no cauliflower" option (which they clearly wrote on the container to remind themselves) but which did in fact have a bunch of broccoli and cauliflower that imbued the soup with a sulfurous foulness that I was hoping to avoid. Setting that aside, the rest of my food was quite good. Oddly, their curries are more vegetarian-friendly than some of their stir-fry dishes. I ordered my green curry Thai hot, and they delivered a ferocious dish with no questions asked, and a small sachet of extra dried chili that I didn't need to use for this and so saved for other food. The curry with some aromatic Jasmine rice hit the spot. Some vegetable rolls with very fine noodle threads made for a good snack later. I could certainly see coming back, ordering something different, and getting high quality food.

The dumplings seem extremely similar to the Way Fong frozen dumplings (probably my favorite brand of frozen dumplings), except they're deep fried and covered with a lot of sauce. The sauce and dumplings aren't bad, but the sauce overpowers the nice flavor of the dumplings. The steam buns are fine, but I think they're reheating them in a microwave.
