    General Tso's Chicken Over Rice
    Emma E.

Eh. The food is just ok. TBH if I'm looking for good takeout Chinese in cville my go to is Hong Kong on Avon. I've tried everything else and knew Q Noodles is well reviewed but HK is undefeated. We ordered takeout and decided to try a few different things on their menu. I will say the food came correct and the packaging was clean and tidy. The prices are expensive but the portions are huge. We ordered 2 apps and 2 entrees and couldn't finish all of it. 1 of each is enough for 2 people. The pork steamed buns were our favorite. Not the best I've had ever, but possibly the best in cville. The bun was super light and fluffy and the filling was savory. I prefer mine to be a bit sweeter with a BBQ flavor, so not my all time fav but very good. 8/10 The egg rolls were just fine. Well prepared and cooked. Tasted slightly too oily. The inside was cabbage and either ground pork or chicken. No carrot. The inside was so finely minced it kinda turned into a mush. So the texture was not the best. Hard to distinguish the flavor as well. 5/10 The sesame paste noodles with ground pork was presented beautifully with red cabbage, cucumber, edamame, corn, shredded carrot and cilantro. I think the sesame paste sauce was just too one dimensional, but maybe that's the point. The noodles were overdone so underneath the beautiful rainbow of toppings was just kind of a pile of mushy noodles in a plain sesame paste. After a few bites the earthiness/mushiness of the dish starts to be overwhelming ... not my favorite. 4/10 The general tsos was packaged well and came with white rice a few pieces of steamed brocolli and a ramen egg. The ramen egg was good. The general tsos the chicken was good quality and very fresh. It reminded me of an orange chicken in terms of how their GT tastes. My favorite GT in cville is from Hong Kong and unfortunately this one wasn't as good. The chicken was good quality but the texture was quite soft and not crispy the way I prefer. The sauce was also a bit too sweet for my preference. Overall, a good dish it is enjoyable just not my fav. 6/10 With how much hype they get I was expecting a bit more - perhaps at some point I will try their soup dumplings since they may be the only place in cville that does them. But for $13 for 6 pieces I may just continue to wait awhile considering the rest of their food was fairly average. Overall, a solid spot for average Chinese food. Nothing amazing but will satisfy a craving for well made Chinese food if you are looking in the uva area.

If you are in the area definitely stop in. This is top notch food and large portions. Everything we got was fresh and just as described. Service was fast and friendly. Plenty of seating and a great open area.

Food was pretty good! Love the dry noodles (I ordered the Yibin noodles). The marinated duck was very tender and tasty, but also a bit dry. Everything overall was very good, but also quite oily. The staff was very friendly, and it was beautiful on the inside. Nothing to blow your mind away, but there were really pretty decorations and places to take photos! I definitely recommend if you have not tried it!

Came here on a Monday night and it wasn't super busy. There is a small parking lot in the front with limited parking. The restaurant itself is very well decorated and has plenty of seating for small and large groups. We were seated right away but the waitress did not come to take our order for at least 15-20 mins on top of waiting 20 more minutes for the food. We tried to get someone's attention but they were nowhere to be found even though the restaurant wasn't too busy. We ordered 4 noodles dishes. 1 rice dish, 1 pork xiaolong bao and 1 scallion pancake. The scallion pancake came out last and it was the worse of all - it was overcooked that it was hard to chew on. The noodles dishes were meh... definitely had better. The xiaolong bao was the only thing that we all liked. Overall, the food was okay, it's not something that I would be craving for. They also added 18% tip to our bill for 4 adults and 1 kid.

Pro: clean interior, online ordering, Con: limited/ cramp parking space, no air conditioning, price, food. My hope for finding a good ramen restaurant here in Charlottesville continues since this place was not it. The establishment is located near the college & hospital so foot traffic is heavy as you try to navigate to the restaurant. The parking lot is very small and cramp which makes it hard to maneuver. The inside is very modern and clean. The price here is very expensive but I guess that part of the high cost of living here in Charlottesville. For appetizer, we had the pork dumpling and for the entree I had the Sichuan beef noodle. For the drink I ordered the mango smoothie. My companion order the cheese potato tower. The pork soup dumpling was good while the potato tower was a bit stale and lacking in flavor. The sichuan beef noodle broth had some spicy but not much flavor. The mango juice was kind of bland and artificial. The waiter was nice and just on us from time to time but brought us the check while we were still eating. All in all, my experience here was subpar and I don't recommend people come here.

Fantastic! Must try! Decor is cute, food was great and the service was fast. Definitely get the pan fried pork buns.

Top find at UVA! The pork dumplings and dimsum could hold their own to Chinatown dimsum shops. The noodles had great mara spice (like maratang) and it's easy to switch out ingredients (e.g. swapping beef intestines for beef). Quick service and hot on Fridays

Fantastic!! One of the most interesting and diverse Asian menus in town. Great service, atmosphere and the menu keeps you wanting more. It quickly moved into my top 2-3 Asian spots in Charlottesville. I've been twice now and very pleased with both trips. You can get adventurous and go outside your comfort zone with dishes or stay safely within the traditional Chinese and Dim Sum menu. Both offer excellent handmade quality and care. Highly Recommend.

The ambiance was absolutely gorgeous. The food especially was delicious! I got the pork intestine noodles and they were amazing. My friend got the sichuan beef soup and that was good too. Highly recommend the pork dumplings. Thai tea tasted a little sour but other than that it was great! 10/10

The previous owner ran it into the ground since buying it from Peter Chang, but now the original owner is back. We have had two family banquets here over the past month and they were fabulous. The sleeper on the menu is the great curry fish soup. Peking duck is available every day and is simple and superb - crispy skin and slivers of rich meat. The "party room" has big round tables with huge lazy Susans, so passing dishes is easy. That room has a wall size TV which was playing the World Cup both days we were there. The main dining room is more elegant. They are still waiting on their wine and beer license as of July 2026. We ordered a huge amount of food and the bill with tip came to $50 a person. Also recommended is the fragrant numbing hot pot. Don't hesitate to order very spicy - this is Cantonese cooking, not Szechuan. Any drawbacks? Well, although there are lots of vegan options, don't expect to find low fat. steamed vegetables- this is traditional authentic Chinese with a heavy hand on the oil in most dishes. The soup dumplings were a little disappointing, too doughy. Final recommendation: split an order of the burnt sugar glutinous rice for dessert - it comes with 4 big pieces, easy to share.

It was definitely more on the side of actually Chinese than American Chinese, based on the menu and the people working there. They did have a reasonable vegetable and tofu selection. Among the dishes that you don't usually see at the more American restaurants was a dry cumin tofu preparation. It had abundant cilantro, and I'm in the category of people who gets a weird soapy aftertaste with cilantro but still likes to eat it from time to time; this dish gave me a ton of aftertaste but was otherwise good. A ma po tofu had proper fermented bean paste and leeks, albeit not a ton of numbing sensation that I could discern which is really the bar for the best rendition of the dish. Their cabbage dish was described as "hand torn" and it strikes me that this is the sort of place where that's probably true, and it was a tasty saute and a nice contrast to the rest. Their online ordering system wanted to offer me a free egg roll for my order but wouldn't let me get a vegetable one. I wish they'd label some of the dishes more clearly for dietary needs or just plain description. But overall, it was solid food for a town with a relative dearth of this cuisine.

The seafood was cut into unusual and decorative shapes, while still being one inch or longer pieces. This dish included a basic Kung Pao gravy that was slightly sweet, sour and a bit spicy. The wonton soup tasted extremely salty and looked dark as if someone put soy sauce in it. This is the first time in my entire life where I tasted bad wonton soup. The won ton itself was great. It was just the salty broth. I make this at home, and it is not that difficult to make. It is supposed to be a simple broth (partly the reason why I ordered it because I wanted something simple). I told them about the saltiness. They tried to make it right by bringing out another soup with a better broth. The pho was just okay but was not as fragrant as expected. I am Vietnamese and make this at home as well. Otherwise, it had everything it was supposed to have. The fried rice was a large portion and tasted better than the other two dishes.
