Lots of flavor except the raw pieces of chicken we couldn't eat. We have ordered the green curry, red curry, chicken salad, wonton soup, and chicken satay skewers. Curries: A ton of flavor in each bite! It is a normal amount of food. Don't expect a full bowl just enough to have a small meal. Would be nice to get a little more since it doesn't feel like a full meal. The Chicken Thai Salad: tasty and very salty salad with a peanut vinegar fish dressing that puddles on the bottom. The carrots and cucumber are thinner than angel hair pasta and are the perfect amount. The chicken is very thinly cut and satisfies. It has huge pieces of cucumber and tomato which I always cut and add back to the salad. I've ordered this every time I eat here. Just remember that it is very salty. Wonton soup has three pieces of wontons and about 1.5 cups of soup. Tasty, my two year old liked it. Chicken satay skewers: look exactly like the description. The peanut sauce that comes with it is very good, not too sweet or thick, compliments the chicken well... except the two skewers that were raw.. you get 5. I removed the chicken and it was hard to cut through like rubbery I cut it open and it was very raw! I was disgusted. When the waitress came by she said "oh, okay" and left, when she came back like 10 minutes later she said "we will cook the chicken longer next time" No apology nor did she remove the raw chicken plate from our table... no discount on the uncooked food either. We might come back for the curries and salad but not trying out the chicken keepers again since if they don't cook it correctly they still charge the full amount and don't replace it. read more

They unfortunately do not deliver to the UVA campus so I usually get take out. Trust me, they are worth the trip all the way up 29! They are by far the best Thai restaurant in Charlottesville [and one of my favorites ever]. Everything is so flavorful here-- I especially love their drunken noodles and curries. Their Pad Thai is too sweet for my liking, but a lot of people really enjoy it. Price wise, they are pretty much standard compared to what other restaurants charge--but since the quality of the food is so great, I'm giving them 4 stars on value. I dined here several times and thought that service was a little slow. The servers are really nice and perhaps a little on the quite side---you can't help but like them regardless of their performance. Tip: They are closed during the middle of the day [as are most Thai places] so make sure you check that they're open or you'll be tugging on a locked door. I hate Downtown Mall parking so, so much. I loathe the need to parallel park flawlessly deep within my soul, stemming from that one time during my driving test, I took almost half an hour to try to parallel park a Prius. Street parking is the worst thing in the world, after pomeranians and girls who dance on bars. I'd take the grimiest, most generic, washed out Americanian strip mall with a nice, roomy parking lot than that street-front restaurant with the line out the door. But it's a different story if someone else is driving. Anyway. So, Lime Leaf, +1 for sharing that awesome parking lot with Krogers. I also applaud you for your menus that are twice the size of the average person's face, and your sick green curry with bamboo shoots, one ingredient that is sadly lacking in most curries. But thumbs down to the meager amount of eggplant and green beans and chicken, and to the $1 for an extra bowl of white rice. By bowl, I mean maybe two or three mouthfuls of rice. Also it had a weird plastic aftertaste, which I drowned out with loads and loads of curry sauce, but still, something to think about. I know some Thai restaurants use coconut milk instead of water for their rice cooker so maybe that's what it was. Waitress was really quiet and unintrusive. Overall, taste was a little below Thai '99 and way above Tara Thai. I really like Thai. Went here for lunch the other day and ordered the Tom Kha Gai and La(r)b Gai. The Larb was exactly on point. The Tom Kha was so sweet that it was totally blech, not good. In their defense the waitress warned me that it was sweet. I don't know who their typical customer is but it's certainly not people that like Tom Kha soup. With the number of great Thai restaurants in this town I think these guys are going to have to kick it up a notch. read more

I've gone twice and I haven't necessarily had the best experiences there. Decor is nice, but portions are TINY for the price. The first time, I went with my parents. Needless to say, they didn't like it. My dad got the Pad Thai and he said it didn't taste like Pad Thai. That can be forgiven since I liked my food and my parents are unnecessarily picky. BUT it did take FOREVER to get our food. There were many other people there yes, but it didn't have to take THAT LONG. So I thought I'd give them a second try some time. This time I went with my roommates and it was completely empty. We got our food rather fast and the lady was nice. I got the Pad See Ew. All I tasted was Soy Sauce. It was salty and a very very dark brown color. No good at all. O, and did I mention the teeny tiny portions? Because you're not really paying to feed your tummy, you're paying for pretty things to look at. Not even decent, passable thai food! Other places in Charlottesville can (and do) do so much better.... As an asian who loves eating all types of asian food, I just don't get the hype. I think people are being tricked! read more

I do not know and that should have NOTHING to do with it, but it is common around Cville. I was quickly seated, but just as I was seated a married couple with two kids was seated two tables away. At that point, the waitress provided them w/ drinks and they received their order first. I ordered the appetizer Hoy Joh. Not impressed, unless you like the taste of stale grass mixed with a two day old fish baking on the sidewalk. I doubt it was real crab meat. The main entree was Pad Num Prik Pao w/ beef. The beef was a tough, low-grade selection. Not sure if they attempted to tenderize it...probably better off if they didn't. The sub-par beef ruined a half-way decent entree. I was waiting 5 minutes and the married couple was long gone. Not sure if I was forgotten, but I took it as a sign to head out into the stormy night--no tip, no pay. I asked the server if I could be accommodated for the dish (order something different or taking the order off the bill) and said no. I asked if I could speak to the manager and she said there's no manager. I've been to a lot of restaurants and never heard of denying an unsatisfied customer. Finally, another server came to me and suggested tweaking the dish to be less salty. I received the a "new" dish and it was still salty. I'm pretty disappointed. My friend and I were starving and ready for some glutinous carbs. While he said his fried rice was just.. fried rice, my flat rice noodles were spicy, salty, sweet, and delightful to chew. The chicken was also moist. I'd definitely order it again if we went back. The prices are a little high for the portion you get, but oh well. We went during lunch and each of our dishes probably costed around $8-9. Sorry I don't have any pics because I completely engulfed the meal! I had VEGAN drunken noodles with tofu and spring rolls. I was really blown away. The drunken noodle was delicious--just a little spicy, salty enough, with a very low sweet undertone. I added black pepper but I add pepper to all my meals before I taste them. I also had 2 orders (4 ea) spring rolls. These spring rolls were perfect. They were thick, the vegetables snapped, the wrap was crispy and not too soggy inside. They came with a sweet dip; I'm not sure so the name or ingredients, it was a little extra sweet but delicious. I was happy with the portions and price. I ordered over the phone and picked up inside. I didn't get her name but the one lady was so nice and she explained that she could do most of their meals vegan except for 6 items because of fish sauce etc. I'm hate that there are a couple bad reviews for lime leaf but red through the level headed high reviews--that's their true culture and intentions. read more

I've ordered take away all of about 6 times during the pandemic and the other night I was jonesin' for some Thai food (probably something to do with watching "Somebody Feed Phil"-Bangkok episode). So, we called up Lime Leaf and ordered up one of the best meals I've had in quite some time. We started with the spring rolls (still crispy despite a 30-minute care ride home before we could eat them) and fried calamari, followed by Num Tok and Lab Gai, spicy beef and chicken salads respectively. Consistently well-prepared, flavorful, fresh and nicely portioned. Love the raw shredded papaya salad, the friend tofu and num tok. We are boring I know, but we get the Drunken Noodle and Pad Thai, every single time. Yum Talay and Larb Gai are also often-ordered favs. Both for take out and dine in, LimeLeaf is a winner. Located in a shopping center, it's a tad hard to find only because of the scripty-style writing in the logo. It's on the Kroger end of the shopping center, just FYI. read more

My husband and I went here for the first time on 16th feb around 830pm. We ordered the shrimp rolls, soft shell crab and chicken pad see ew with Thai ice tea. Portions were lesser than other restaurants but food was fantastic and the service too. The lady who served us explained some of the dishes and even packed our takeaways for us and even labeled them. We did tip her generously coz she deserved it! So I was really craving Thai food yesterday, 23rd feb and we went down to dine at 9pm(my husband isn't even a fan of Thai food). The waitress who greeted us told us that the kitchen closes in 30 mins. We said ok. We ordered our drink. She came back within 30 seconds to ask about appetizer and we did decide on chicken satay which they didn't have. We ordered the mun gai instead. And then within 1 min she came back and told us kitchen would close at 930pm and was rather rude. After a minute, we decided we wanted the shrimp fried rice and shrimp pad see ew with mango sticky rice to be brought later. She said she can bring it at 915pm latest. She then proceeded to bring us all our food, including the dessert, and mumbled that the kitchen closes at 930pm so she must bring it out. ‍ the fried rice was a generous portion and pad see ew was good too. As we were going to leave, she brought us some boxes and the check avoiding eye contact and just kept looking at her watch. At this point in time, I couldn't wait to get out of the restaurant too and I regretted asking my husband if we could come to this place again. So my opinion is that, this is a takeout restaurant. Food is always nice. But service is a 50-50. Just depends on your luck which is rather unfortunate. read more

I'd give this a 3.5 rounded down. Started with the Fried Calamari which were the largest rings of calamari I've ever seen for an appetizer plate. The batter was light and the sweet chili sauce was good, but the calamari was really no better than what I've had at other places. For my main course I had the Soft shell crab tempera with steamed vegetables and sauce. The crab and sauce were very good but the vegetables were bland. Dang! This is fantastic! Like, actually good Thai food in Charlottesville! I have to tell you that I was super surprised. This is much less sweet and much more delicately flavored than most of the Thai food around here. There's actual aromatics and even the suggestion of proper caramelization from the wok. There's a good balance of heat and portions are solid. Particularly pleasant, though, is the fact that their rice is reliably well-cooked. Eat here, and cease to experience regret. The service is only okay, but that's not really something I'm inclined to care about. read more

First of all, the restaurant interior is beautiful! Upon entering, you'll notice a romantic, relaxing atmosphere with ornamental flowers and a small lotus display at the front. You don't need to dress up, but the place also would make a good date spot if you were to go that route. Each of the dishes is about $10-12 so it's reasonably priced too. I got the Tom yum soup (a classic that I MUST have every time I go to a thai restaurant haha) and theirs was definitely one of my favorites. They were not stingy on the vegetables or seafood inside the soup so I really appreciated that. Next I got the pineapple fried rice and it was really tasty! It wasn't oily or greasy like most fried rice, but I will say that the rice was moist, maybe some might complain it's soggy. However, I prefer that to overly fried rice with lots of oil, I think the moistness was due to the pineapple and honestly that's where all the flavor comes from! I also tried a bite of my sister's Limeleaf noodle. This dish is a bed of wide, flat rice noodles topped with a spicy mixture of meat, onions, and red pepper in a light brown sauce. This dish was good but even though it was only one spice pepper on the menu, I found it too spicy to finish the whole dish. The portions are well sized for what you pay so we didn't have any room for dessert. I will be back the next time I am in Charlottesville and wanting to get some thai food! read more

Probably the best Thai I've had in six years. I went for both lunch and dinner and was surprised at the large proportions, just enough for leftovers. The menu is pretty extensive and there is a vegetarian option if that's your bag. I would highly recommend the Indian Chicken Curry or any meat as this dish truly shines. I would consider stepping up the spice option from mild to medium, as the mild tends to be too bland. Spice it up. Beware of there Thai Iced Tea as it resembles what I call 'crack water'. There mix is uber-sweet and awfully addictive. And if your still feeling a bit peckish beyond meal, you might dare to sample the fried bananas with honey glaze. All in all the food shines. The ambience is cool and quaint and the water fountain softens the commotion of lingering conversations. What a nice little retreat in an otherwise monotonous suburban strip mall. This is very good thai food. Would give it 3.5 stars if I could. It's hard to say whether it's better than the competitors (thai 99, Downtown Thai, etc.) as they are very similar. But I've never had anything but friendly service and flavorful fresh food. The complaints below that the food is "expensive" is odd--the curry and noodle dishes with your choice of meat are $9.99 or below. Pretty standard pricing. My only complaint is that they used to have a wine list with some good spicy whites. Now it appears to be all beer. read more

I've been here twice now and I love it. The first time, I got the beef pad ped (at the waitress' suggestion). It's listed on the menu as 4 pepper (Thai hot). She suggested maybe I should get it 3 pepper hot. I think she said that because I'm white and that is SUPER offensive (just kidding). Of course I said no, give me the four pepper. It was pretty dang hot... I was sweating, blowing my nose, there were moments when I questioned if I was going to make it... it was AWESOME. So tasty, so spicy. I had a total high afterwards. The second time, I got the beef drunken noodle (again on the suggestion of the waitress) and asked for it Thai hot. It was delicious, more delicious than the pad ped. So savory, so good. I ate the entire thing. Despite the fact that it was four pepper hot like the last meal, I did not almost kill myself eating it. It was definitely hot af but I handled it like a man. read more

I was so happy to finally try this place out. I tried Thai 99, and they were just OK to me. I just a Thai restaurant by their Thai fried rice, and this place was amazing! I got the shrimp Thai fried rice w/a heat of 2, which was perfect! There were a lot of shrimp hiding in the rice which was great, BUT just a little too much onions (it almost seemed like a whole small onion was used in just my rice). I'm not docking any stars for that b/c it was still good, just didn't eat all the onions. They decor was authentic. What caught my eye was a huge framed mural of a koy fish (or something similar). It was beautiful! The restaurant was very clean and the atmosphere was nice (dimmed lighting). They have separate lunch/dinner times, so they close after lunch and reopen for dinner at 5pm. I showed up just at 5pm and received my food quick. This will be my go-to Thai place when I have my cravings. read more

I've been to Lime Leaf twice. Their service is always fantastic, very prompt and courteous. Most recently, my husband and I ordered a chicken satay appetizer to start. It was served with white bread, which was really strange. The chicken had a yummy peanut sauce. I had the panang curry for an entree; I didn't realize that there are no veggies in panang curry (my own fault) so felt that the entree was boring. My husband had a noodle dish that was much better. However we both ordered medium spice but it tasted mild. I'd say the Thai food here is on par with other Thai restaurants in the C-ville area. 2.5 stars rounded down. Good Thai food, but the experience was vastly overshadowed by its horrendous service. To start off, I will say that the food is very good. I got the Lime Leaf noodles and they tasted great, not too oily, and just the right amount of spice. The toppings/meat on the dish were proportionate to the noodles, which were the base of the dish, and that's something I appreciate. Overall it was a very filling dish and very much worth the price. Now the service....... What can I say? We were seated at 6:30pm pretty promptly and received menus. We were not approached again for orderings drinks or anything until 20 minutes later at 6:50 (really?). We were kind of tired of waiting at this point so we ordered our drinks and food all at once so then we could minimize wait time. Or so we thought.... It wasn't until 7:40pm until we got our food. That's right.. a whopping 50 minutes of wait time for our food. During this time, we were approached once by a server who said our food would be out in a bit, but that wasn't until 30+ minutes after we ordered. Maybe the restaurant was understaffed, I grant that. But it was completely ridiculous how we were never even notified that the food would take a while or there was some underlying problem that was slowing service down. We were straight-up ready to get up and walk out but felt that we had invested way too much time to bail at that point. After finishing our food, it took another 15-20 minutes to process our checks. I should point out that it's not even that big a restaurant to begin with in terms of space and seating, so I have no idea why it would take so long. Maybe it was an off day and things were just busy and bad, so if I come here again, I might update my review. But for my group, this was our pre-semiformal dinner and we were there for TWO HOURS, 2/3 of which was spent waiting for our food or someone to serve us, which FUBAR'd our plans big-time. Pretty sure too that there were two other groups who were seated after us and got their food first, but don't quote me on that. read more
