I've stopped by before, but ages ago pre-Yelper days. To kill time after dropping off The Homie at UW Seattle campus, I realized this the closest hardware store north of the university (1/4/24). Added later, located west of UW Seattle is Tweedy Popp Ace Hardware in Wallingford. I usually shop at a North Seattle box store and you know how that goes. Try not to run over a scandily clad Aurora streetwalker, hope today's not your day to get carjacked, and once inside power walk the vast aisles without a store associate in sight. I needed particular light bulbs for the dining room chandelier and the refrigerator...I am armed with a mission as I walked in. I am usually a strategic shopper with limited time. I was immediately acknowledged and greeted by an Ace Hardware employee. She knew the exact aisle and location of these specific bulbs. Another associate also chimed in and concurred while we were standing in aisle 13. I walked over to the check-out area and there were three actual folks at the registers. The person that assisted with the transaction was upbeat and pleasant. What no standing in line for self checkout or dealing with a dour clerk? I was in & out in record time. I was absolutely amazed! I guess for many years being a northend homeowner, I was accustomed to lame service from box store orange or box store blue. This Ace Hardware in Maple Leaf also edges out the Ace site in Greenwood, where usually I'm ignored. Based on this visit, I definitely highly recommend Maple Leaf Ace Hardware for basic homeowner needs. Many thanks for exceptional service!

Yikes! Another mom moment. Darn it, this place is close and convenient. It's got basic home necessities that you may or not find in any other hardware stores. This place is bustling on a Sunday morning. Happy short stop shopping.

Every single time I've moved something - pretty much anything that might be 3 feet in width - I've scraped the side of my walls. So after a year of wall scratching (and a new roommate), I decided that maybe - just maybe - it was time to do some patch work. The construction company that built my abode purchased their paints from Rodda. This location was the closest to my house, which is how I ended up here. The staff was really helpful, though finding someone to help me was a little hard (Either their understaffed, or there was a high influx of customers for a Friday afternoon.). The paint color, I was told, was an "older color" (I guess they have been renamed since my house was built.), but the staff was able to find a conversion chart and get me the right paint color. Then they helped me to get the other stuff I needed: spray-on texture (they also did a demo with me, which was very useful), a paint roller, and a basic "how-to" list. The prices were reasonable too. I'm no home improvement expert, but I have been to the Home Depot and Lowe's before: everything one needs to texture the walls and paint (and fix the holes) for under $50 (including the gallon of paint) seems really reasonable to me. Like I said: great service, and knowledgeable staff. I just wish there was more of them to go around... And I really wish that they'd volunteer to come home and do my painting for me.

Due to reduced hours for COVID-19, the store closed early (2PM on Sunday). I knew this and called to get my paint for curbside pickup...about 30 minutes before closing, and the Kenmore store was out of stock. Damn that's too bad - we really wanted to get this painting wrapped up during our weekend. No big deal! We can get this at another store - it's just 25 minutes away at the University Village location. I was on a time crunch, but I could make it if I hurried. And so the Kenmore store was AWESOME and called for me while I rushed out the door. I called the U Village store as soon as I was in the car. The associate there confirmed the order over the phone and I said I was hurrying, but GPS was putting me there at 2:01PM...one minute after closing. The associate CONFIRMED he would be able to wait until I got there and did not ask for anything else. I rushed. I got lucky with a couple of stop lights and I arrived...looked down at my phone - it's 1:59 - sweet! I made it. I called the store...twice...for curbside pickup (remember I cannot go inside, which is fine). Finally, at 2:01, the associate pokes his head out the door... "Are you picking something up?" "Yes I am - the Kenmore store called." "Oh sorry - we're closed. We just shut the system down and can't process any more transactions" "Wait. What? I called you and you confirmed." "Yeah - but our system won't allow you to pay" And this continues for about 2 minutes as I'm sure my face is turning BEET RED because I just wasted approximately an hour of my Sunday because the Sherwin Williams associate effectively LIED to me over the phone. Honestly, I was fuming at the time because I just felt...disrespected. But even now after calming down, I'm really disappointed at the customer service, and realistically, I'm going to be shopping other paint since

They failed to call when it was mixed and we missed out on a window of good weather to paint as a result. When he finally just went in and got the paint after not hearing from them the guy working told him that he hated the color he choose. Then one of the cans were punctured and it leaked all over my dad's vintage truck bed, my dad informed the guy and he never offered to get it cleaned up at all to save the truck. The guy did put the paint into the old tin my dad saved very sloppily not scraping the tin and at least a quart of paint was lost and property damaged. My father is no squeaky wheel and accepted the bad service humbly. He was never offered a discount for paint lost and never offered assistance or a hose to save the bed of his truck from getting damaged. All my father was offered was an excuse that the paint shaker will puncture cans, sounds like if they are aware of this then all cans should be inspected. where is customer service where is quality control? No product is not good enough to excuse such terrible service, disgraceful and a horrible way to treat anybody especially our seniors.

When I try to describe a major brand, I would rather see some general affinity or attempt at insight, rather than, 'that part of the house is that aisle'. When I get to the aisle and see the brand closest to description, dominating in product placement/ application uses & color- even if confused, I would expect some type of relation by Clerk prior. When I am sitting in that aisle for 15 min trying to confirm specs of brand, I would expect someone to check-in. When I get to the counter for purchase, I talk about the product some and inquire about the words on the front of label- 'If this doesn't work 100%- We refund 100'%= 'I don't know about that' (I assumed it may be just the company & not ACE'- but you are selling it and should have some comment other than more disassociation. At the counter with this attempt, I would expect you to be able to take $100 and not be directed to the grocery store for change. If you are so busy, then have some change/ if you are that dead, then help. To be fair, it was morning shift, but my Dentist has change in the morning and you are, well your main thing is sales and you are specifically a mercantile*. Lastly, I would rather not feel like I am putting out the Clerk when I ask at the end of a purchase- if this ACE gives Rewards points? 'You get benefits, then what is your number?' - ACE. [Again, there are different store cultures, but around 75% of us use them, it's always asked in my purchase history, it can save us a lot of $ depending and the irony- it's called "Loyalty", which I am beginning to interpret as a loose term for- "It's all on you man". I find it ironic I have reviewed 2 ACE's back x back with low stars, as in both my main memories are of friendly people and are part of the hood. I just think something sticks out more when it seems to go against perceived baseline. This was to be 3 sentences, if I even took time to write. I think different stores have different personalities, the Clerk likely does a good job and he was not mean. Mostly, I am thinking this was a major waste of time considering real life, but as long as I did, it's being posted for closure. I get along too much with employees in the city, have to pull self away in lieu of both getting back to the day. Today I didn't feel the need to say Goodbye, TK

Part of it was the experience I received and the other part was the experience that I perceived. I think that it takes vulnerability to admin when one was wrong and that is what I am doing in this review. Upon reflection, I was not aware that one person had to man the counter for safety. Therefore, walking me or showing me where something was wasn't them being rude but them being safe. I also wasn't aware of the high crime rate around that strip mall. I was aware of lakecity crime but thought there were pockets which were around 125th. Having examined any of my biases I returned multiple times and received GREAT service. Mike, the GM walked me to get screws today and helped me find the perfect size. His son, helped me find paint and explained the primer process on a project, and the manager helped me select various tool options for another project. I truly support ACE stores and the hard working staff that work there. I hope that my review can offset my previous reviews and the other 1 star ones. Also, the store is very clean and it's always a great value.
