I started going to Mantis on Airport after moving to Austin in January. I'd had several really terrible massage experiences over the past 2 years and was extremely nervous to try again with someone new, but Ann Marie was very understanding and listened carefully during my first session to make sure everything was compatible. Wonderful place! I got my first sports massage, well, massage ever here. A few friends recommended this place and I'm gonna recommend Mantis Massage to all of my friends. I've been dealing with plantar fasciitis for a few months and Melissa gave me a sports massage. While sports massages are supposed to be painful, it was worth it. I visited Mantis Massage for the first time yesterday. I had a deep tissue massage from Ginie and it was the best I've had to date. She did myofascial tissue release on my neck and shoulders. She warned me it would hurt but I would not be sorry. She was not wrong. My razor sharp headaches were gone almost mmediately. She released tightness in my shoulders and surprisingly in my hips which I didn't even know I had. She helped me identify where I hold my stress. She even suggested stretches to help between massages. I will return to Ginie and I was so impressed I referred a friend this morning. Thanks for your help Ginie. read more

Excellent massage! If you are a musician or have a lot of repetitive motion in your life, Mantis is a great place to get it dealt with. Kyra was very knowledgable about the muscles involved in guitar playing, the postures, and back problems that can plague a working musician. My husband bought me a 90 minute massage as a gift for the holidays, so that I could get a prenatal massage. I scheduled it at 37 weeks, which was later than I had originally intended. It turned out to be a happy accident, because I was experiencing a lot of swelling in my hands and ankles at that point. Kelsey brought me into the room for a consultation before we started the massage, so I mentioned the swelling to her. She said we could focus on increasing my circulation to help reduce the swelling. As this was my first massage ever, I was initially worried about being exposed and uncomfortable with the massage experience, however, the entire space was very relaxing and Kelsey put me immediately at ease. It was definitely one of the more relaxing experiences I've ever had, and the swelling visibly shifted the next day and disappeared by day two. read more

I've had a lot of massages in my day. I want more of a get-all-the-kinks-out-even-if-it-makes-me-cry type massage. Makala delivered. She got the knots out of my shoulders which is a feat only one other person has ever been able to do (and they had to do cupping). I had several appointments with Taylor, advanced therapist, when I was suffering with a frozen shoulder. I went in for 30 minute massages that focused on my shoulders and neck 1-2 times a week for two months. During that time, I worked on stretching my arm up against the wall at least 10 times a day and reaching my arm up to grab a bar several times a day for a minute. It all paid off. Taylor has worked with other clients that have had frozen shoulder so she has a good understanding. You can trust her. I really credit the massages with helping. Of course they felt great, but also, when I would stretch my arm up, other parts of my body would come out of alignment and my neck hurt. I tried physical therapy and chiropractic care also, which were fine. I tried those from February until beginning of June. I went to Mantis Massage in July and August. By September, I was on the road to recovery. read more

I didn't come to Mantis with any particular pain, but to keep balanced as I train for my first half marathon, and reduce stress. Venessa listened to all the places I thought I was holding tension, addressed them, and thoughtfully spent time in places I had forgotten about/had thought resolved. She also sent me home with things I could do to help tight areas. Finally, Venessa was really respectful with pressure, knowing I had not been used to deep pressure, but nonetheless being effective.
