I was looking for an authentic Chinese restaurant and saw the pictures on yelp. I was impressed!!! I told my friend and her son that came to visit from out of state, that it looks good; they agreed. Then it went all down hill from there, right when we walked in he said " what you want to order ?" we asked politely "can we can sit down and order?" he snatched the paper menu out of my hand and told us to sit ( very annoyed and rude) as if we were disturbing him! So he comes by with the same menu that is laminated and says order. We didnt even see the whole menu. so when he showed up to the table, he asked what we wanted. we asked questions about the menu because theres no pictures or anything. so of course we wanted to know of combos or whats the best deal. He got annoyed and angry we even asked. He just kept saying no and thats not how they do it. I didnt even get "thats not how we do it" so wtf ever we ordered cause her son really wanted the food. but a man that came in 10 minutes afterwards surely got his food first. I get it with restaurants but this is one of the times if you have a family owned business, just please dont deal with customers. That old dude was more than likely the owner but did not know how to deal with interface with ppl that are polite and ask about menus, I'm being as nice as possible but thats the kind of owner that needs to be out of the restaurant and just collect a check. Went here for lunch the other day. Before I even walk in the door, there's a sign warning me that the prices are higher than the menu because of Covid. Ok, that's somewhat understandable. Very dark inside and not busy at all. Soda and other supplies are stacked up everywhere and it's very cluttered looking. I get the impression that I'm in the storage area of a ship. I get a not so friendly greeting from what looks like the owner and tells me to sit anywhere. I am provided a paper menu that looks like they mail out or deliver door to door. I ordered the Lunch special with Kung Pao chicken, fried rice and wonton appetizers. Everything is brought out together, in fairly good time. Food is all served in disposable foam packages with a spork. Wontons are very greasy, but have a fair amount of meat in them. They taste of old grease and are not crisp at all. Kung Pao is good and has some good spice to it, although it isn't a very large portion. Fried rice is also overly greasy. I ordered water and was brought a bottled water from Fry's. I asked if they charged for that and they replied they did, that it was a dollar. I told him I just wanted tap, and their reply was that they didn't have filters and that this is all they had. So, I took it. When the bill came, it was actually $1.10 for a .10 water bottle. Everything was a little elevated, but not horribly from the menu prices. Service was not good, nor was it friendly. Felt sick the rest of the afternoon with that greasy food in the pit of my stomach. I wont be returning. A much better restaurant for Chinese food is just down the street. I'd recommend Golden gate over this place. read more

The food was very good. The egg drop soup was hot when we got it home. They said it would take 15 minutes when we ordered at the counter and it was 15 minutes. It appears that this is a family business and everyone was working. It was a brisk Sunday night take out. Probably 8 people picked up in those 15 minutes. We will definitely go back! read more

The tofu and vegetable was dry garlicky and akin to deep fried chunks of sawdust. There are no utensils in the bag no duck sauce for The wonton chips. I have ordered delivery from Mandarin House 3 times now. Each time food has been steaming hot and delicious every time. We usually just order 2 meals which is enough for 4-5 to eat on as we're not large eaters. I highly recommend the shrimp with fresh green beans. read more

Finally a good chinese restaurant that's closer to me. They actually know how to make General Tso's Tofu the right way and make it in the right portion for an okay price. I get it with brown rice and it comes out to a little under $10. I love the taste of the food here. It's hard find good chinese in Arizona but this is a great spot. My girl gets the sizzling fried rice soup which is also really hard to find in AZ. This place does it all and does it right. I will keep coming here. I also like the workers. They all have good customer service skills and are rrally professional. I like that on my second visit they let us order a pick up order after they were already closed. We've been trying different Chinese restaurants trying to find a decent one near our house. We ordered take out via Uber eats. We were very disappointed. We ordered Szechuan wontons, scallion pancakes, beef chow fun, salt and pepper pork, and twice cooked pork. Wontons were mostly wrapper. Scallion pancakes were not pancakes but much thicker with filling (pictures on Uber eats were inaccurate). Beef chow fun was ... Okay. Salt and pepper pork was mostly breading and hard to find meat in the pieces. Seasoning was meh. Twice cooked pork was mostly cabbage and tastes a bit sour. Sesame chicken is pretty basic, fried rice was really great, dumplings we're good, beef with broccoli had great flavor and portions..... Yet, when we talk about the pan fried noodles with pork, I am dissatisfied. It was almost all pork and veggies with a thin layer of very small noodles at the bottom. Normally, I'd be happy with it, but since I was ordering noodles for my four year old who specifically asked for noodles, it is a let down. These noodles look nothing like any of the pictures. This place saved us on the Fourth of July! Not many places were open close by, but mandarin house was. The food was good and not greasy at all, as others have mentioned. Also, the very first thing I noticed was that the place is CLEAN. Not a spec of food on the floors, the tables were spotless, and it didn't have that overpowering smell that usually accompanies Chinese restaurants. I just order for the first time in this restaurant usin grubhub, i order the house ramen that was absolutely tasteless, the broth was cold and taste just like dirty water, the noodles were overcooked. I also order the takoyaki and they were raw inside was just a big ball of raw batter. The flat noodles came in one single block all stuck together with some bright pink pork. The only thing that i like it was the fries octopus but they package with a bunch of fried stuff that was left on the fryer from previous orders. So overall i feel i just waste 40 bucks. I got a Pu Pu platter with hard teriyaki chicken, shrimp with the nasty vein still intact with breading covering it. The fried wonton was the worst I ever had. So this place used to be called Wongs place. They changed their name, however it is still the same owner. I used to loveeeeee Wongs place! So we wanted to try it out again hoping that they still had the same menu. They no longer have the garlic fried rice. Nooooooo!!! Lol. I always ordered the crystal shrimp when I went to Wongs place. It tastes completely different now. Like there's not enough sauce on the shrimp. We also ordered the crab puffs which tasted different as well. Wong's Place had always been my favorite Chinese Food in the Phoenix Area. The decor was woefully outdated, but the service was ALWAYS friendly and fast. They had a waiter there that I remember from the 90s. Who does that anymore? We were sad to see that Wong's was "closed for renovations". We were sadder to see a new name on the front of the shabby strip mall it was in, but were still hopeful that we'd get the same good food and service we were used to. We finally tried it tonight. Mr. Wong (?) was still there, still playing with his false teeth but greeted us warmly and showed us a table right away. the renovation - which was LOOOONG overdue was very nicely done. Everything looked fresh and new - not dingy and gross like before. No tea - when it was Wong's, we were alway given nice tea to start the meal off. Potstickers - horrible. Wong's potstickers always took a very long time, but they were hand made fresh to order and they were THE BEST potstickers in the entire Phoenix area without question. Even worse, there are no more potsticker sauces. All we got was a little bowl of I'm guessing soy sauce. House Special Soup - gone. No more. This soup - I was convinced after eating it for 20 or more years - that it had magical healing powers. I kid you not - if you felt like caca, eat that soup and you felt much better. The way to cure the common cold - I swear to you! But alas, it is no longer. I will need therapy because of this - I am so not looking forward to cold season this year :-( Pork Fried Rice - so not the same. Not even close. This was relatively bland and even the portion was much smaller. Usually we take huge amounts of food home - not this time. Nothing went home. Szechuan Beef - The meet was very, very tender - almost like it was from a tenderloin. Not chewy at all. This was the lone high point. The sauce lacked creativity and tasted like it came out of a bottle or jar. The veggies were crisp and done nicely. Happy Family - interesting and pleasant combination of beef, chicken, shrimp, krab and tons of veggies but like the Szechuan beef, the sauce lacked creativity and tasted like it came out of a bottle. My bay area transplant husband forcefully approved of Wong's Place and said it was no different than eating in SF. I was pleased to see that other people felt that way too. Mandarin House tastes like what white people think Chinese Food should be. There is ZERO authenticity to this food whatsoever. The service was friendly - especially Mr. Wong (?) and his creepy teeth. I don't know where the waiter went - hopefully he found somewhere to go. He was a fixture there. We won't be back - unless they change the menu back. read more
