We visited Mamie's around noon on the Saturday after Thanksgiving and what struck me immediately was the long line in the drive-thru. That was certainly a good sign for this "no-frills" restaurant. The place is small, with about 10 tables and a little counter up front where we placed our orders. The red and white tablecloths reminded me of a picnic while the food was reminiscent of diner fare. Good diner fare. I split the pancakes, which came in an order of 3, and the chicken breakfast. The chicken breakfast came with a biscuit, a fried chicken breast, eggs, and grits. Others at the table opted for the popular salmon cakes, hotlinks, french toast, and breakfast sandwiches. We also tried the peach cobbler, which had slightly under-cooked crust that had more of a biscuit consistency, peaches, and cinnamon. It was just ok. The breakfast food was seasoned well and cooked well. And the prices are very reasonable. This is the kind of place where you can take the industrial size bottle of syrup to your table until another table needs it. It's the kind of place where someone walks around and asks "anything else you need, sweetie"? It's the kind of place that you bring your family to and enjoy casual food. So, If you're in to innovative food and fancy breakfast spots, this isn't the place for you. But, if you're looking for good, Southern food between the early morning hours until 2pm Monday through Saturday, then stop by Mamie's to either dine-in or pick up a bite to eat. I've been to Mamie's quite a few times, I'm the Duke for Gods sake so I think I finally feel comfortable enough to write a review. My first couple of trips here were not the best but I think I have to blame it on myself. I didn't really understand how to order and how things work in this place. I think the first time I came, I ordered a piece of chicken and a biscuit... #nobueno. I couldn't grasp what the hype was about. The next time I went in with friends and family and this cool guy that worked there explained that we should order a meat and a side (eggs, grits or gravy and a biscuit). My favorite thing to order now is pancakes with chicken and cheesy eggs. The pancakes are always warm and fluffy and the chicken, mmmm mmm mm delicious! To me, it's better than chicken and waffles. I've had the biscuits and gravy before (picture uploaded) but there was just too much gravy and I'm not a big fan of the gravy. It lacked flavor, even though it was caked on. The peach cobbler here is really good. It's a little buttery but its still tasty and definitely tastes homemade. On the weekends this place gets really packed with a long line so I definitely suggest calling in your order. I tried it this past weekend and it was great. I got to the spot and he line was almost out the door. I walked in and the lady came out and told me to go to the front of the line to pay for my food. I felt like VIP!! Overall this place is really good. It gives you the old fashioned, hole on the wall vibe and you know those are sometimes the spots where you get the best food. I am an Atlanta native and had been waiting to try this place for years. I just never had time to wait in the line (good indication). Finally, I was able to get some for a birthday surprise. Good food is wonderful, but when you support a business that has top notch customer service, you can't go wrong!!! The grits were perfect and the biscuits remind me of how my mom used to make them. I reached out to them on Facebook to have some questions answered as I am selective about what I eat and how it is prepared. When I tell you they responded promptly with each comment and never made me feel like I was wrong for inquiring. They were professional, courteous, and prompt. With customer service in most places taking a Covid hit, it was pleasurable to communicate with a business that cares about their customers and not just the bottom line. I will definitely go back. Get there early....actually I've been there early, it doesn't help This place is packed all the time. I've had a bacon, egg and cheese biscuit and chicken biscuit. The chicken biscuit is massive. The meat hangs well outside the buttery, soft, made from scratch biscuit. So...much....flavor. Although this place is extremely busy, the staff does an amazing job of getting people in and out. I'm going start with the negative first, just to get it out the way. So I walked in a little after 12:30pm and I wanted breakfast for two of my friends and myself. I ordered two orders of pancakes and eggs one with turkey bacon and an order of salmon croquette grits and eggs. For my taste the grits yes we're cooked well but a little salty and the salmon croquettes weren't round like I have seen in Yelp pictures they were like patties and dry. I do have to say again it was after 12pm so they might have been dry because of that. The upsides of this place are the customer service, when you walk in you feel welcomed like ur grandma opened a spot and u came to see here. My husband and I have stopped here a few times while doing business in the are. The only time I suggest Waffle House is when he wants to come to this little place. People park in the grass, down the street, and even on the side of the road. The guy behind the counter, probably the owner, is often times rude to people, but all of the women are nice. The food looks delicious, but lacks seasonings. I have tried all the meats, I think, that don't contain pork. These were my findings. The Salmon patties had no onion, no black pepper, maybe a hint of salt. Yea Black people put onion in their salmon patties, and it is mostly Black women in the back. Shame on y'all. Shame. The last time I was dragged kicking and screaming to this place the chicken in my biscuit was so thin that I thought it was a Krystals burger turned chicken. Now even though it had no flavor, it fooled me at first and I managed to give it a smile beacause it was crunchy as hell. I must admit that crunch added a dimension of texture that most real chicken patties do not have. But my taste bud soon kicked in and I realized I was only tasting biscuit and fried flour. But where's the meat? Oh yeah, I forgot, I also had the steak once. Child please! No different from that other meat. The eggs, cheese grits, biscuits, Deliciously Sweet as hell, I'm not playing, sweet as hell Peach cobbler are all good. You may need a little salt or pepper for the eggs and grits. My husband liked his bacon, sausage and pancakes, which looked good, but I didn't try because he adds a lot of syrup to them. And as I said the Sweet Tea is really good as well. I would get the sides if I ever came back again. Initially I gave this place a 3 Star but after coming here thrice and seeing how the guy talks to people that disagree with him, umma take it down a notch because the food really isn't that good. read more

They have some pretty good food here, but they are ALWAYS slammed with customers!! I mean the line is almost always out the door! I hate their location because the parking lot is extremely small and crowded, but I'm still going to continue to occasionally get breakfast there. If you decide to visit this restaurant, you must have plenty of patience and you absolutely cannot be in a rush! A couple of times it took us 20 minutes just to order! The food is awesome. Their eggs are cooked just right.... not too runny and not too dry or overcooked. Their grits are good and creamy, too. I only have one issue. They never put enough cheese in the cheese grits....well, not enough for me, anyway. I always have to run home and add 1 and a half more slices. (Yeah because 1 isn't enough and 2 is too much.) Other than that, I have no complaints. I've never eaten inside, so I don't know about the lobby or bathroom areas. Maybe I need to check it out. But the employees seem to be pretty friendly. When we drove up, the drive through line was out into Evans Mill road and causing traffic. I knew that the breakfast had to be good. It's a small establishment with approximately 10 tables. The biscuit was fluffy and the chicken was fried to perfection. They are actually better than chik-fil-a- and cheaper. The breakfast comes with grits or eggs, with or without cheese and a meat. The bacon was crispy and the sausage links were smoked soooooo well. The prices are awesome in todays economy. $10 will get you a lot of food and it's home cooked. I would suggest calling ahead and placing your order. Needless to say, I'm in love. The crowd is diverse and you can tell that the family takes pride in what they do. I have driven past this place countless times in the three years I've lived in Lithonia. Every morning I would see numerous cars crammed into the parking lot. Today was my first time stopping by and am so glad I did. When I arrived around 11 AM I was pleasantly surprised to find multiple parking spots in the lot. After entering there were a few people placing their orders. They seemed to be regulars since there was no menu viewable to me. I found a takeout menu and took a quick glance. The staff was very down home and patient with me while I figured out what to order. I settled for a biscuit, bacon and scrambled eggs for me and biscuits with country ham for my husband. When I received my order I noticed the line was to the door and not a parking space to be found outside. Now on to the food...it should be against the law to have a biscuit taste so good.
