While in town we visited the Spice House off of recommendation from a local friend and 'BY GOLLY' when I tell you it was hands down the BEST experience all around!! Lexie, our waitress, was so patient and attentive to our requests. I didn't get the bartenders name, but she concocted my drink request perfectly! The manager, beautiful sweetheart Ruthy's energy and vibe was unmatched!!! From the moment we walked in...though a little uncertain of what to expect....everyone was so quick to great us and seat us! Down to the excellent service and drinks, we demanded to meet the Chef, Junior, to personally thank him for the amazing food....such a kind, humble young man!! Mine literally had exposed nails. Still, in anticipation of mimosas and Jamaican food for brunch, I shifted slightly to the side and focused on enjoying my best friend's company. Our server was just alright. Very much giving "here for the paycheck," not necessarily service-driven. Unfortunately, that's become common these days, so I adjusted my expectations, and tipped accordingly. The menu itself had promise. I appreciated the Southern fusion options with a Jamaican twist, and the hookah menu was surprisingly comprehensive, though we chose not to order one. We opted for the unlimited mimosas, and to be fair, we definitely got our money's worth. That said, I was disappointed to learn they were pre-mixed. I prefer fresh orange juice with popped brut or sparkling, and once I saw how the drinks were prepared, it made sense for a busy brunch crowd- just not my preference. Made reservations but still had to wait 30 mins. Didn't trip about that. Sat down (several open tables), the hostess told us we can't order the main food for 15 mins, just drinks and apps. Didn't trip about that. Ordered a seafood dip and drinks. 30 mins go by, we asked can we order food, they said not yet. She came back and took our order but said it's not being put in yet. Another 15 and we finally got the dip. Before we got the dip, we asked the waitress what comes in it, she said shrimp and crab meat. Got the dip, it was 3 big shrimp and that's it. We were offered the opportunity to reserve seats online for free, so I reserved three. Well, don't waste your time because the seating was nothing like the layout online. The available tables were created for two guests, which was disappointing. We had to sit all the way in the back of the restaurant, however, the elevated positioning allowed us a clear view of the band. We ordered oxtail egg rolls and shrimp for appetizers, which were pretty good. My friends ordered a seafood bowl and salmon with broccoli and mashed potatoes. They stated that the entrées were okay and that the broccoli was bland. On a brighter note, the band was amazing, and the lighting effects were very entertaining! I've visited this Spice House location a couple of times, once for their karaoke night and most recently to meet a friend for brunch. I decided to write this review because of the service we received. Everyone was super nice and accommodating, and I have to give a special shout out to Nay, the bartender who took care of us when we came in. The host hadn't yet arrived so we weren't sure if we should just sit anywhere, and Nay directed us to a table and continued to be our primary server, even though she's the bartender and when we arrived she was the only bartender working. Only the brunch menu was available (which was a bummer because the curry chicken is sooooo good!), but I had the crab cake hash which was tastier than I expected. I don't normally eat seafood, so I wasn't expecting to enjoy it as much as I did. The dish included potatoes, tiny shrimp and one small crab cake with a remoulade sauce, and the sauce is what made it all come together. Keep in mind that this isn't a seafood restaurant, so it is what it is. My friend had the veggie omelet, and she enjoyed it. We shared the oxtail eggrolls, and while they tasted good overall, I can't say that I tasted much oxtail. On my earlier visit, I had the curry chicken and honestly, I would have ordered one to eat there and one to go, that's how good I remember it being. We both had the rum punch, which is a 10/10 winner on a fruity drink. This location has plenty of parking as it's located in a strip, and we didn't have to wait to be seated, which is a blessing in Atlanta for Sunday brunch. I been coming to this location for a little over a year. I'm not sure what's happened but the service has gone down tremendously. My server was Dasia and after we got our oxtail eggrolls they were cold and not crispy at all. We told her and she proceeded to help other people. So I told the manager since she didn't make it known what she was going to do. The manager helped me out and told me to let her know if we have any other problems. The new eggrolls came out and were much better. Afterwards , I tried to order some turkey wings and told Dasia. She never placed the order and then gave us our checks without a word. After being seated and having waited for 10 minutes a waitress walked past and asked have we been helped which we had not. She took orders and went on her way. Very disappointed in this place. I used to come every week because the food and drinks were always a hit. Portion sizes have downsized tremendously, especially for the price. Service is very slow. The Jerk chicken didn't even have meat on the bones.. Pikliz aren't spicy at all and tastes just like raw cabbage. No sure if management has changed or if they simply just don't care anymore. Seven was the sweetest host!! She took care of my reservation for close to 20 people and bottle service. She came over and checked on us a few times ensuring that all guest were happy and full throughout the night! Also, shout out to the waitress that was assigned to our table!! I can't recall her name but she was an ABSOLUTE professional gem too!! These two ladies worked tirelessly to ensure hookah was flowing, drinks were flowing, and food was of abundance. The Spice House is located at 2617 Panola Road Lithonia, GA Suite 105 directly behind the Dairy Queen. Their Health Score is 93= A on July 29, 2023. Parking is horrific, because the restaurant is in a plaza with several other business. So get there early. Men be prepared to be patted down by security for weapons and Ladies be prepared to have your purses or bags searched upon entry. The Food is great and seasoned well. I was in a party of 25 people and we ordered a variety of different things on the menu from Seafood Lobster Mac and Cheese, Fried Green Tomatoes, Oxtail Egg rolls, Turkey Wings Dinner, Honey Lemon Pepper and Garlic and Herbs Wings. Everything was delicious. Getting seated was a challenge for a party our sized even though we made reservations, so be patient.
